Does adventure have an age limit? Two close friends have given a negative answer to the question. Ellie Hamby
and Sandy Hazelip, both at the age of 81, inspired by Jules Verne’s novel Around the World in 80 Days, are on a
mission to see all seven continents in just over two and a half months.
Their first stop was a location that was not easily accessible to even many experienced travelers: Antarctica.
Getting to the southernmost continent first required crossing the Drake Passage, the famously rough waters. “For
第3页/共11页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司almost two days, we were rocking and rolling and slipping and sliding through the Drake Passage. It was just wild,”
Hamby said. “But when we stepped foot on the ground of the Antarctic, we forgot all of that. The beauty of the
Antarctic is just unbelievable — just breath-taking.”
Over the past three months, the pair have ridden camels in Egypt, met elephants in Bali, and observed the
Northern Lights in Finland. For Hamby, the best part of the trip was not the beauty along the way. “We love all the
sights that we saw, but the things that we remember the most are the people that we met,” she said. “We met some of
the kindest and friendliest people in the world. We just have friends now all over the world.”
When it came to how their families felt about their journey, Hamby said her daughter Louise was not too
concerned. “She just says, ‘Well, if Mom falls out of a hot air balloon in Egypt or off of the mountain ... That’s fine.
She’s living the life she wanted to live, and I’m happy for her,’” Hamby said.
Hazelip hopes their story can inspire people of all ages. “Don’t sit in that chair and waste away,” Hazelip said.
“Ellie has this wonderful saying; it goes ‘the world is a book and he who does not travel only reads one page’. So get
up out of that easy chair, step out of your comfort zone, make some plans and live. Remember that age is only a
number.”
4. Which words can best describe Hamby and Hazelip’s journey to Antarctica?
A. Adventurous but wonderful. B. Boring and uneventful.
C. Well-planned and smooth. D. Romantic but fruitless.
5. What was the most unforgettable part of the trip for Hamby?
A. Seeing beautiful scenes. B. Meeting wonderful people.
C. Experiencing different cultures. D. Having her best friend’s company.
6. What was Louise’s attitude to her mother’s journey?
A. Uncertain. B. Indifferent. C. Supportive. D. Concerned.
7. What message does Hazelip most want to give us?
A. It’s never too old to learn.
B. A friend for life is a friend indeed.
C. Seeing the world is not a must for the old.
D. It’s never too late to live life to the fullest.

In Finland, it’s a basic duty for the government to provide the public with sporting possibilities. That thinking
started in the 1970s, when the government built gyms in even the smallest towns. Now, there are about 30,000 sports
facilities (设施) across the country. Walkways and bike tracks move through the cities. Public swimming pools are
everywhere. Here you can just step out of your door and do sports.
第4页/共11页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司Finns do just that. Half of women and a third of men bike to work. About a fifth of the country belongs to sports
clubs. Some people even play sports at work. For example, every Wednesday morning, a group of scientists at the
University of Jyväskylä leave their desks to play “futsal”, an indoor form of soccer, in a gym across the street. It’s
one of the most popular team sports in the country, along with floor ball and Finnish baseball. A nearby chocolate
factory has a gym and offers classes like boxing and badminton.
“Employers (雇主) started to encourage sports participation (参与) about a century ago in the forestry industry,”
says Hanna Vehmas, a sports scientist at the University of Jyväskylä. “Today, 90% of employers support their workers'
physical activities in some way. Each year, they spend about $220 per worker for physical activities.”
“We have a lot of research showing that spending money on workers’ well-being will bring back as much as six
times the money spent,” says Vehmas.“Because healthy workers do better work. They also don’t have as many sick
days. And staying fit, especially by playing sports together, could help build company loyalty (忠诚) which is actually
even more important than the health side.”
Physically active people also save the health care system a lot of money. Data from the Finnish Ministry of
Social Affairs & Health shows that people who bike and walk save the health care system as much as $5.5 billion
each year.
.
8 Why are the scientists at the University of Jyväskylä mentioned in paragraph 2?
A. To tell the acceptance of a special sport.
B. To give the reasons of joining sports clubs.
C. To show the popularity of sports facilities.
D. To call for more public participation in sports.
9. When did the forestry industry start to encourage sports participation?
A. About 50 years ago. B. About 60 years ago.
C. About 80 years ago. D. About 100 years ago.
10. What does Hanna Vehmas say about the effort for workers’ physical well-being?
.
A It is a waste of money. B. It brings in various benefits.
C. It takes too much time. D. It cuts workers’ productivity.
11. What is the best title for the text?
A. How Can Finns Make Sports Part of Daily Life?
B. Why Does Finland Have So Many Sports Facilities?
C. How Has Finland Become the Healthiest Country?
D. Why Do Employers in Finland Spend on Sports?

学科网(北京)股份有限公司When AI art generators become popular around the world, a question stays in people’s minds: should their works
really be thought of as art? While the technology is still developing and has things to improve, it’s clear we must
balance its problems against the amazing artworks that good AI can make.
Art is defined as something made from imagination, skill, experience and emotion, usually created to show
something for people to enjoy. Human artists spend time and effort turning their inner thoughts into real works. In
the same way, AI uses a lot of computing power to look through huge amounts of data, link a user’s request to related
information, and try to present it as well as possible. The main difference, though, is that AI follows orders instead
of having a strong feeling to express itself.
With one press of the enter key, AI art generators can produce more than 1,000 original works. But a mass-
produced copy of the Mona Lisa is less valuable than Leonardo da Vinci’s real painting. Why? Scarcity — there’s
only one true version. This brings up questions: Should anyone pay for AI-generated art? And if an artist sells AI-
made great works, what price is right?
AI art works when a program copies the styles of existing artists to create new pieces based on what people ask
for. But who should get credit for the artwork — the machine or the person using it? Can original artists take legal
action for copyright violation? These questions make it hard to mix AI and the art industry, and also make more
arguments against seeing AI-generated art as products that can be sold.
Once we solve these problems, we can deal with the biggest question: When an AI-generated painting wins an
award, who should get the prize?
12. What makes AI art different from human art?
A. It doesn’t show humans’ inner feelings.
B. It comes from people’s life experience.
C. It needs less money to make.
D. It mixes various work styles together.
13. Why does the writer mention Mona Lisa in paragraph 3?
A. To show classic artworks are well-liked.
B. To prove AI painters are better than human artists.
C. To point out possible problems with AI art’s value.
D. To suggest a new way to keep art masterpieces.
14. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. AI art helps sell more artistic products.
B. Artists can create more works with AI’s help.
C. The art industry will have tough competition.
第6页/共11页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司D. AI art makes copyright problems harder to solve.
15. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To explain why AI-generated art is more popular than human art.
B. To discuss the arguments and questions around AI-generated art’s status.
C. To introduce how AI art generators create original artworks.
D. To prove that AI-generated art should not be seen as real art.

For years, when it came to media and kids, the suggestion of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) was
pretty straightforward: Limit (限制) the TV to two hours a day. And don’t let children under the age of two watch
it. ____16____ Because our children are growing up in a digital age, parenting needs to reflect that. The AAP
recognizes this and has issued some tips for parents in the digital age.
Treat media like any other part of your child’s life. Clearly, you have to know what your children do at school
and with friends. ____17____ Since you have rules about behavior at school and with friends, you should set rules
for them about online life, too.
Set limits and encourage playtime. The AAP suggests setting “reasonable limits” on media use, based on your
child’s needs and the situation. ____18____ They need to use their imagination, move their bodies, and interact
with the real world around them
____19____ Real-life conversations are important for developing strong relationships and good mental
health. While media can help, such as video calls with distant family, nothing beats real-life interactions. Everyone
should make time to talk to each other regularly.
Be a good role model. If you are on your phone all the time, or turn on the TV as soon as you sit down on the
sofa, what kind of message are you sending? Instead, set an example to your kids by doing something meaningful
like reading. ____20____
A. But these days, even that has gotten hard.
B. Raise your voice when talking to your child.
C. You should know what they do online as well.
D. Know the value of face-to-face communication.

学科网(北京)股份有限公司第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The Wilson family was enjoying a weekend hike in a national forest. The path was clear, and the sun was warm.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson walked ahead, while their two children, thirteen-year-old Sarah and ten-year-old Leo, followed
behind. Leo, full of energy, was fascinated by everything around him. He kept pointing at squirrels and unusual
insects, his laughter echoing through the trees.
“Stay close, kids. The forest is vast, and it’s easy to get lost.” Mr. Wilson reminded them as they reached a
fork (岔口) in the path. “If anyone gets separated, don’t panic. Stay where you are and act positively.” Mr. Wilson
emphasized. Leo nodded, but his attention was soon caught by a large, colorful butterfly that fluttered near the
bushes.
Without a second thought, Leo stepped off the main path to get a closer look. The butterfly led him deeper into
the woods, where the trees grew thicker and the sunlight faded. He walked further and further, his eyes fixed on the
dancing insect. When Leo finally looked up, the butterfly was gone, and he realized that he could no longer see his
family or hear their voices. He called out, “Mom? Dad? Sarah!” but there was no answer. The forest, once so friendly,
now felt vast and silent. The only sounds were the whisper of the wind and the call of a distant bird.
Meanwhile, Sarah noticed her brother was missing. “Mom, Dad, where’s Leo?” she asked, a note of worry in
her voice. The family immediately stopped. “Leo!” they called out, their voices growing more and more anxious with
each shout. Above the trees, dark clouds began to gather, blocking out the sun. The air grew cooler, and the wind
started to blow more strongly, rustling the leaves loudly.
What had begun as a perfect family day was now a race against time to find Leo before the weather turned worse
and the forest was drowned into the deep shadows of evening.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)开头已给出。
Knowing he was lost, Leo remembered his father’s advice about staying calm.
