Wish you a pleasant journey exploring Chinese! Yours, Li Hua 参考范文2 Dear Tom, I’m glad to hear that you will start learning Chinese! It’s a fascinating and beautiful language, though you may face some challenges at the beginning. I’d like to share a few suggestions that might help you on your learning journey. To begin with, Chinese characters are very different from English letters, so it takes time and patience to remember their shapes and meanings. In addition, tones are crucial in pronunciation—the same syllable with different tones can mean completely different things. Here are a few hints that might make your learning easier. First, start with pinyin, as it will give you a solid foundation for pronunciation. Once you feel comfortable, gradually move on to learning simple characters. Second, try to immerse yourself in the language by watching Chinese movies, listening to songs, or even chatting with native speakers. This will make learning both effective and enjoyable. Finally, don’t be afraid of making mistakes — they are a natural and necessary part of learning. Remember, practice makes perfect! Learning Chinese may take time, but if you stay curious and keep practicing, you’ll surely make great progress. I’m confident that you’ll fall in love with the language and the culture behind it. Best wishes, Li Hua 听力文本 Text 1 - Amy, I don’t mean to be impolite, but you look fantastic. Have you lost weight? - Well, yes, I have. I recently joined a new gym, and it’s been really beneficial. Some of the sample problems are driving me crazy. I just don’t get some of them. I thought maybe two heads are better than one. - That’s a good point. But you know, I wish I knew that person from our class who got one hundred on the last test. She didn’t miss a question! - I think it was Elizabeth. - Oh? She is a friend of mine. She might be able to help us. Why don’t I give her a call. - At this hour? It’s already ten thirty. - Yeah, you are right. But I helped her out with something once before, so she may feel it’s only right to help me now. Let’s give her a call and see what she says. Maybe going over some of the problems with us would help her review the materials, too. Text 10 By the end of the term, I hope you’ll come to share my belief that formal writing always requires revision. Some students may have the mistaken idea that revision means simply making corrections in spelling and grammar. I call that proof reading. What I expect you to do is to revise, evaluate and improve the overall effectiveness of your paper. But how can you tell if your paper is effective? Well, for example, start by asking yourself these questions: Is the topic narrow enough to be fully discussed within the given length? Is the main idea clear? Are they supported by specific details and examples? Does the paper move smoothly from one idea to the next? You’ll need enough time to make big changes, meaning you might have to make many adjustments before your paper becomes very clear to the reader. So I expect you to submit the first draft of each paper two weeks before the final due date. This timeline allows me to provide feedback and return it to you in time for revisions. Then you can submit a final draft for grading. This process may seem like a great deal of trouble at first, but I think you will find it valuable. In fact, after completing this course, I doubt you’ll ever submit a term paper without careful revision.
