It's a typical school day for Grady Loper. He studies at Lake Country School in Wisconsin,
USA.
In the morning, the fourth-grader discusses the previous (前一个) night' S reading homework
with his classmates. In the afternoon, he has Spanish classes. But there' S actually something
special about this day. Grady is doing all of this without leaving home. Grady is weak and has to
miss school from time to time. On days when he can’ t go to school, a robot takes his place. Grady
controls the robot from home, using his computer. The robot makes it possible for Grady to keep
up with his schoolwork and lets his teachers and classmates see him.
"In the classroom, if one kid is sick, Grady will get sick within a couple of days,”said
Grady'smother, Tamit "Grady S body also takes much longer to recover (恢复) after he' S been sick."
So last year, she called Double Robotics. It' s one of several companies (公司) that build
robots to take the place of students in class. Grady got a robot from Double Robotics last
September.
For Grady, learning to control the robot took some time. “It was a little difficult at first,'

Grady.“After I got the hang of it, it was fine.”
The robot has even helped Grady get healthier. This year, he has stayed home from school
for about 30 days. But only five of those days were because he was sick, He used the robot on the
rest of the days to avoid (避免) being around classmates who were getting over illnesses. For
Grady, the best thing about the robot is that it allows him to communicate with his friends. And
his classmates see the robot just as they would see Grady. "They just think it's me,” said Grady.
