the last/final word:并非“最后的一个词”

对the last/final word,last和final词义相同,只是前者源自古英语,而后者源自古法语。
the last/final word有如下若干用法。
1】Why must you always have the last word in any argument?
2】She does like to have the last word in any discussion.

3】She always has to have the last word (= win the argument).
4】He always has to have the last word in any argument.
5】The last word must go to Nick, who has organized the whole project.
6】The final word on policy determination belongs to the committee.
7】She has the final word on whether policies are put into action or not.
8】The final word will still come from the Secretary of State.
9】The Chairman always has the last word on financial decisions.
10】Adams had the final word with a last-minute goal.
11】These apartments are the last word in luxury.

12】It’s a nice enough restaurant and it’s very reasonably priced but it’s not exactly the last word in style.
4. one’s final/last word
10】You’re not going, Helena, and that’s my last word on the matter.
11】I’m willing to wait one more week, and that’s my final word on the subject.
