说课稿
Dear teachers, it's my great honor to present my teaching plan here. Today I will talk about how I design my class. I will talk about it from the following seven parts.
(Analysis of Material) This passage comes from the second book, Grade 8, Unit 5 Section B Do you remember what you were doing? in PEP Go for it. This passage mainly contains 2 parts: the first part is the description of 911 event and the Dr. King's death; and the second part is about Robert Allen and Kate Smith's memory on these events. So I'd like to change the title into Memories in Life to fit the theme of this passage. 911 event and Dr. King's death are significant for my students to know American history. And the writing structure of the passage can be applied to describe their daily lives. That's why I choose it for my students.
(Analysis of Students) My students are in grade 8 and they have known some big events in American history. And they really do well in skimming and scanning and inferring meaning of new words. What's more they are outgoing and are willing to express their opinions, so discussion under role play can be carried out easily. However, it's hard for them to realize that they are the creators and the participants of our history, and to understand the importance of building a correct outlook on life and values according to their current cognitive levels. Therefore, it's necessary to offer some scaffolding for their better understanding.
 (Teaching Objectives) Based on the analysis of teaching material and the characteristics of my students, I design my teaching objectives as follows:
At the end of the class my students will be able to:
grasp new words and expressions by predicting and inferring;
they are expected to summarize the main idea of the passage and be clear about the writing structure of the passage; and the most importantly is that they will use past continuous tense and the writing structure to describe events in their daily lives;
after reading the passage they will know the impacts of these two big events and try to express positive love attitudes; meanwhile, they will get more acquainted with American culture and history.
(Teaching&Learning Approach) To achieve them, I will adopt the English "Four-in-One" Teaching Approach and Interactive Approach to carry out all my activities in 45 minutes. And all the activities are based on the theories "Bloom's Taxonomy" and "Core Competence" . According to this, I designed my own activities into 6 levels" remember understand apply analyze evaluate and create".
(Teaching Procedures) Now I will talk about how I organize my class. In preparation stage, my students and I will play a memory game to arouse their learning interest. I will present some of my important memories. They show in photos, which will disappear in 20 seconds. So my students need to remember the information as quickly as possible. Later. I will check how much information they have kept in mind.
Next I will present some numbers to help my students recall the big events in Chinese history.
Then they will talk about the big events according to the pictures. This can activate their background knowledge and then lead the keyword in the end. Here are 6 steps in my presentation stage. First, We will begin our reading with 2 simple questions: number1 What do people often remember of an event? Question two: do they remember clearly about the whole event? My students need to go through the passage and find out that people often remember what they were doing at the time and how were deep impression ...at that time.(这一句没听清)Two questions here will create a high reading expectation and pave the way for the following reading.
To help my students know more clearly about the passage, we are expected to complete the sentences with some missing words which contain some important information like who where what how what the witnesses were doing and how they felt at the time.
Only after this can we check whether students have noticed the writing structure and lay the foundation for the following writing. What's more we will talk about the answers in groups of 4, check the answers and to help each other.There are the details of this questions, also is a process of remembering the content of the article. So is the stage of remembering.
Based on those 2 activities above, I will lead my students to discuss the reasons “why these two big events had such a great influence on the country on its people.” To break through the learning difficulty, I will imitate an excellent part of the speech “I have a dream” made by Martin Luther King. My students will feel the charm of Doctor King and will be affected by his contribution to the black people.
Later, I will show them an heartbreaking video of 911 event. After watching the video, I will ask them the following questions: Did Kate Smith believed what happened at first? Why was she scared? Who did it? Why was the date meaningful to most Americans? Students need to answer the questions with words or expressions such as realize, terrorists, in silence and so on. It's more helpful for them to remember the new words in such a real situation. And getting the whole details of these 2 big events will help my students to sense the horror of 911 events as well as American sorrowful feelings. And this activity will check whether students have understood the passage so it is the stage of understanding.
If they have no problem with that, we can move on to more challenging parts. Students will be divided into groups of 4 and do the interviews. Two of them will be Robert Allen and Kate Smith, another two will be reporters. And the reporters will ask the questions according to the keywords provided. This activity will create a situation for my students to practice the past continuous tense and they can apply what they have learned into their conversations, so it is the stage of applying.
The last the activity of this step is about further thinking. My students will find out the similarities of these two big events. Maybe their answers are" terrible important and meaningful" and so on, however; they may know that big events echo to big tragedies. To get them out of the tragedies, I will ask them this question: will people only remember terrible moments? This question will help my students further thinking. This time I will show one of my most unforgettable stories with them. That’s my baby girl called me mommy for the first time. At that time, I was playing toys with her. I felt so surprised and happy. To me, it is the best gift I've ever got. This story will develop my students positive emotional attitudes and values; meanwhile, pave the way for writing.
After that, another question for them. What does the author want to tell people through this passage? My purpose is to develop their analytical ability. And these questions are also the stage of analyzing. And they are supposed to make a survey. Let’s look at the questions: how do you feel about these two terrorist attacks? What the impact do they have on people and society? How can we do to appeal to world peace? Please set some examples. They will talk about the questions in their groups and share their opinions in front of the class. After that, we will have interactive evaluation. This activity will develop my students critical thinking ability and to develop the wisdom of team work. And this is the stage of evaluating.
In practice stage, according to the structure of describing an event of the earlier, my students will write down one of their most unforgettable stories according to the scaffolding. After that, we will share some of their writings. They will get more feedback, so that they can polish their writing as well. And this activity will reinforce the way of describing a moment on their own and to promote the past continuous tense. They will think more and output their expressions. So is the stage of creating.
To summarize the whole lesson, we will review what we have learned in this class together. Then I will share a proverb of about memories with my students,encourage them to try their best to make today the best memory.
(Blackboard Design) And please look at my blackboard, you can see that it presents the elements of describing an event in the center with the new words and expressions beside. It is clear and detailed for my students to know how to describe an event.
(Homework) Connect the operation under the double reduction policy and the analysis of my students. I designed it two levels of of assignment. Actually, level B belongs to this question. In order to be practical and input more culture information my students will use their favorite ways to express their idea in maintaining the world peace.
