Professor Diaz

This week, we are discussing how companies should balance competing business priorities when making strategic decisions. Some business leaders believe that companies should prioritize long-term growth by investing heavily in employee training and development programs, even when these investments reduce short-term profits. Others believe that companies should prioritize keeping their product prices as low as possible by minimizing training expenses and other operational costs. What approach do you think leads to better long-term business success?

Paul

Companies should prioritize long-term growth through substantial investments in employee training and development programs, even when they reduce short-term profits temporarily. When businesses provide comprehensive skill development, professional certifications, and career advancement opportunities, they create more productive workforces, reduce expensive employee turnover, and build institutional knowledge that gives them competitive advantages over companies with less skilled workers in the marketplace.

Kelly

I think companies should prioritize keeping their product prices as low as possible by minimizing training expenses and other operational costs. When companies reduce spending on training programs, they can offer customers better prices than competitors, which generates higher sales volumes. Low prices help businesses gain new customers and keep existing customers from switching to other companies.
