【听力原文】
Text 1
W: Are you excited about your trip?
M: I can’t wait! There’s so much to see and do and eat! Paris has some of the most wonderful cheeses in the world.
Text 2
W: Hurry up! Mum’s plane arrives at ten!
M: What? We’ve got only two hours, Jane!
Text 3
W: This is the apartment—the living room, the bedroom, the kitchen, and the bathroom. And, it’s only six hundred
dollars a month.
M: Not so cheap, actually. But it’s quiet, and should be a nice place for an artist.
Text 4
W: Dr. Heath, you seem to be busy everyday. What do you do, besides giving lectures?
M: I need to prepare class notes and hold office hours. However, I spend nearly two-thirds of my time doing research.
Text 5
W: Hey Peter, it’s Elaine. I’m preparing for Professor Butler’s presentation tomorrow, and I need the notes for last
Tuesday, when I was gone. Have you got them?
M: Yeah, I think so. Hold on and let me look.
Text 6
M: Hello, Johnson’s Furniture. This is Kevin McMillan speaking. What can I do for you?
W: This is Julia Pauling from CC Computer. We still haven’t received the thirty chairs. They were supposed to have
arrived by twelve o’clock noon the day before yesterday.
M: I’m terribly sorry about that. The truck driver was ill. I spoke with our delivery department at about ten this morning,
and they said that the chairs will be delivered by four this afternoon.
W: Excellent. I’m pleased to hear that.
Text 7
M: Hey Iris, I forgot to register for the courses. I’m one day late, and most of the classes are full.
What do you think I should do?
W: Poor you, Jack! You can’t do anything about that.
M: Do you think going to the registration office will help now?
W: No, they will tell you the same thing,in a worse way.
第2页 | 共12页M: Did you register yet?
W: Of course. And it wasn’t easy for me to register for International Trade. It’s so popular.
M: What classes do you think are still open?
W: Maybe Modern History, and Chemistry.
M: OK, what do you think about mathematics? I wanted to take that class this term.
W: I took that class last year. Professor Anderson is really cool! If you go to his office, you can have him write a card
that will let you in,even if the class is full.
M: He does that?
W: I guess that’s because some people drop out of his class.
M: That makes sense. I think I’ll do that. Thanks for all the help.
Text 8
M: Shall we sit here?
W: Sure!
M: Why didn’t you have anything on your plate?
W: Well, I am not even a bit hungry.
M: Is there anything wrong? Do you feel well?
W: I’ve been really worried. It’s my computer. It’s in the shop again.
M: Really? What’s wrong this time?
W: I don’t know, exactly. There seems to be something wrong with the system. It restarts several times within an hour,
and I can’t save what I have typed.
M: That’s too bad.
W: Yeah. I need to hand in a sales report next Monday, and it’s already Wednesday today. Besides, I was only half way
through my report, and everything is in the computer.
M: I see. Perhaps you should ask them toget it fixed in just one or two days. Then at least you still have the weekend to
work on the report.
W: Yes, I guess you’re right. Thanks.
Text 9
W: Sir, you’ve been using the online catalog for quite a while. Is there anything I can help you find?
M: Yes, thank you. I’ve got to write a paper about Hollywood in the 30s and 40s, and I’m really struggling. There are
hundreds of books, and I just don’t know where to begin.
W: Your topic sounds pretty big. Why don’t you narrow it down to something like, uh, the history of the comedies
during that time?
M: You know, I was thinking about doing that. But more than thirty books came up when I typed in “Hollywood
comedies”.
W: You could cut that down even further by listing the specific years you want. Try adding “1930s” or “1940s”… or
maybe “Golden Age”.
M: “Golden Age” is a good idea! Let me type that in. Hey look! Just six books came up. That’s a lot better. I think I’ll
get started with these books. Thanks a lot!
W: You are welcome. If you need more help,I’ll be over there, at the Reference Desk.

Hi, this is Francis Lake. Here is the weather forecast for Bristol and the Southwest for tonight and all day tomorrow. The
evening will be mainly dry with light mist. Later, however, there will be a few showers in high places. Tomorrow will
start off dry and bright in most areas, with temperatures slightly above normal for this time of year. Coastal areas will be
warmer and can expect a fair amount of sunshine in the morning. However, by midday, it will become cloudy in most
areas, with rain spreading generally from the west. In the afternoon, there will be rain in most places, with winds
becoming stronger along the coast. The rain will be quite heavy. Sorry I haven’t got better weather news for you holiday
makers. But don’t get too upset. The forecast for the end of the month is for much warmer and drier weather in all parts
of the country. Wet days will return next month, though. And now, back to news from the Southwest.
第3页 | 共12页第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)

Suddenly another thought went through Kate’s mind like an electric shock. An express train was due to go past
about thirty minutes later. If it were not stopped, that long train, full of passengers, would fall into the stream. “Someone
must go to the station and warn the station-master,” Kate thought. But who was to go? She would have to go herself.
There was no one else.
In wind and rain, she started on her difficult way. Soon she was at the bridge that crossed the Des Moines River, a
bridge also built of wood, just like the bridge across Honey Creek. The storm had not washed this away, but there was no
footpath across it. She would have to cross it by stepping from sleeper (枕木)to sleeper. With great care, she began the
dangerous crossing, sometimes on her hands and knees, hardly daring to look down between the sleepers into the wild
flood waters below. If she should slip, she would fall between the sleepers, into the rapidly flowing stream.
At last - she never knew how long it had taken her - she felt solid ground under her feet. But there was no time to
rest. She still had to run more than half a mile and had only a few minutes left. Unless she reached the station before the
express did, many, many lives would be lost.
She did reach the station just as the train came into sight. Fortunately, the station-master was standing outside. “The
bridge is down! Stop the train! Oh, please stop it!” Kate shouted breathlessly.
The station-master went pale. He rushed into the station building and came back with a signal light. He waved the
red light as the train came into the station. It was not a second too early.

Digital technology - email and smart phones especially - have vastly improved workers' ability to be productive
outside of a traditional office. Even so, most white-collar work still happens in an office. One reason is that, according to
findings of a new survey (调查) of office workers conducted by Wakefield Research for the IT company Citrix, most
bosses are doubtful about remote working. Half of the workers say their boss doesn't accept it and only 35 percent say
it’s tolerated.
Skeptical bosses will likely have their doubts reinforced (加深)by the same survey, which shows that 43 percent of
workers say they’ve watched TV or a movie while “working” remotely, while 35 percent have done housework, and 28
percent have cooked dinner.
It is true, however, that working at home makes people much more efficient (高效的), because it allows workers to
take care of annoying housework while still getting their jobs done. It’s much faster, for example, to shop for groceries at
a quarter to three than to stand in line during the after-work rush.
The fact that such practices remain officially unaccepted reflects how far we haven't come as a society from the
days when we expected every full-time worker to be supported by a full-time homemaker.
第5页 | 共12页More broadly the Wake field survey suggests that employers may be missing a low-cost way to give workers
something of value. Sixty-four percent of those survey participants who haven’t worked remotely would rather give up
some bonus in order to get even one day a week working from home. Under such circumstances, smart firms need to find
ways to let their employees have enough flexibility to manage their time efficiently. 290字
【短文大意】最新一项调查显示,对于远程办公,多数老板持怀疑态度,因为他们担心对员工失去控制;大部分员工却

28. Why do some employers hesitate to allow remote working?

C. They have little trust in modem technology. D. They are used to face-to-face communication.
【解析】 A 推理判断题。难度较大。根据第二段的叙述可知,老板担心员工远程办公会做一些与工作无关的事情,言
外之意就是,失去对员工的掌控,故选 A。
29- What seems to be most workers’ attitude toward remote working?
A. Doubtful B. Favorable C. Reserved D. Disapproving.
【解析】 B 推理判断题。难度中等。根据最后一段第二句 Sixty-four percent of those survey participants who
haven’t worked remotely would rather give up some bonus in order to get even one day a week working from
home. 可知,大多数员工愿意远程办公,故选 B。
30. What does the author suggest smart firms do?
A. Shorten their office hours. B. Give employees a pay raise.
C. Adopt flexible work patterns. D. Reduce their staff’s workload.

One weekend in July, Jane and her husband, Tom, had driven three hours to camp overnight by a lake in the forest.
Unfortunately, on the way an unpleasant subject came up and they started to quarrel. By the time they reached the lake,
Jane was so angry that she said to Tom. “I'm going to find a better spot for us to camp" and walked away.
With no path to follow, Jane just walked on for quite a long time. After she had climbed to a high place. she turned
around, hoping to see the lake. To her surprise, she saw nothing but forest and, far beyond, a snowcapped mountain top.
She suddenly realized that she was lost.
“Tom! "she cried. "Help!"
No reply. If only she had not left her mobile phone in that bag with Tom. Jane kept moving, but the farther she
walked, the more confused she became. As night was beginning to fall, Jane was so tired that she had to stop for the
night. Lying awake in the dark, Jane wanted very much to be with Tom and her family. She wanted to hold him and tell
him how much she loved him.
Jane rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling (滴落) somewhere at a distance.
Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy, she also saw some berry bushes. She drank and ate a few
berries. Never in her life had she tasted anything better. Feeling stronger now. Jane began to walk along the stream and
hope it would lead her to the lake.
As she picked her way carefully along the stream, Jane heard a helicopter. Is that for me? Unfortunately, the trees
made it impossible for people to see her from above. A few minutes later, another helicopter flew overhead. Jane took
off her yellow blouse, thinking that she should go to an open area and flag them if they came back again.
