It says something about a significant new product announcement when the thing that Wall Street is most anticipating is not the thing itself but the price tag.
Early reactions to the first foldable iPhone, which was unveiled this week, suggest Apple can still inspire enthusiasm for its new gadgets. But for John Ternus, who has just taken over as CEO, the launch — along with decisions about how much to charge for iPhone models — has presented a basic business test.
One reason comes from the sharp increase in memory chip prices driven by the data‑centre boom. Soaring component costs will cut smartphone sales this year, according to Counterpoint Research. Meanwhile, Apple faces pressure to keep products affordable, as it tries to get customers to pay for the iPhone, which will mark its 20th anniversary next year. Apple must find new ways to encourage users to buy replacement devices while protecting its profit margins as material costs rise.
Ironically, Apple’s hot new product is a cross between the iPhone and the iPad. Called the Duo, it is a passport‑sized smartphone unfolding into a screen nearly as big as an iPad mini. The high‑end device could lift average selling prices, though it has yet to prove it can attract more than a small group of buyers.
For Ternus, leaning on the iPhone makes a safe opening move. Apple’s earlier big AI efforts have failed to meet public expectations. An improved Siri is 18 months behind schedule and remains in test. Vision Pro, though technically excellent, failed to win a large market. Still, the huge user base of iPhones means Apple will play a key role in people’s first‑time AI experiences.
Ternus’ first major choice was to limit price rises. The Duo starts at just under $2,000; other iPhones rose $100 because of higher memory costs — less increase than many analysts expected. Risking some profit pressure to keep sales steady is reasonable, since services already make up a large share of Apple’s growth.
Now the new CEO faces his real challenge: making AI truly useful for the huge global iPhone user base, rather than just a technical showpiece.
24.What was Wall Street most concerned about for Apple’s new product?
A. Its practical functions B. Its selling price C. Its appearance design D. Its release schedule
25. What can we infer about Apple’s AI‑related products?
A.They have greatly satisfied public expectations.
B.Improved Siri has been completed and officially released.
C.Vision Pro was not very popular among consumers.
D.They have brought Apple massive profits already.
26.Why did Ternus hold back iPhone price increases?
A.To keep sales volume stable amid rising costs
B.To defeat competitors in smartphone market
C.To promote Apple’s service business worldwide
D.To fund large‑scale AI research investment
27.What is the main idea of the text?
A.The development history of Apple’s iPhones over twenty years
B.Tim Cook’s remarkable achievements during his long work period
C.New Apple CEO Ternus faces challenges with foldable iPhone and AI tasks
D.Main advantages of Apple’s newly‑released foldable smartphone Duo

T.S.A. PreCheck members may soon be able to bring larger bottles of water through security at select airports, in a major shift to longstanding rules.
John Pistole, a former head of the Transportation Security Administration, said on Thursday that the agency was considering the change.
Mr. Pistole said the new policy would be unlikely to take effect before the holidays. It was also not immediately clear which airports would initially be included.
“T.S.A. will continue to explore opportunities to enhance security and improve the traveling experience for the public,” the agency said in an emailed statement on Thursday. “As technology evolves, T.S.A.’s multilayered security protocols will evolve, including benefits for our most trusted travelers.”
The possible change is one in a series of recent T.S.A. programs that loosen restrictions at security checkpoints as screening technology has advanced.
The agency last week began offering a program that allows PreCheck members without tickets to pass through security at 13 U.S. airports to, for example, meet a family member or see off a friend at the gate.
The T.S.A. has eased other longtime rules in the last year, allowing passengers to keep their shoes on and letting unticketed PreCheck members go through security at some airports.
Last summer, the agency stopped requiring passengers to take off their shoes when going through security. Previously, only PreCheck passengers had been able to leave their shoes on.
Kristi Noem, then the homeland security secretary, said soon afterward that she was “questioning” the T.S.A.’s restrictions on liquids, and that the amount of liquids permitted through checkpoints “may be the next big announcement.”
Several security experts said at the time that such a change could take years to roll out across the country. Many airports, especially smaller ones, do not have advanced scanning equipment, called computed tomography, that can detect whether liquids in bags are explosives.
The T.S.A. currently limits most liquids, aerosols and gels at security checkpoints to containers of no more than 3.4 ounces, which must fit in one clear, quart-size bag — a policy known as the 3-1-1 rule.
The T.S.A. initially banned all liquids in carry-on bags in August 2006 after British intelligence thwarted the terrorist plot. That policy was eventually eased and replaced with the 3-1-1 rule.
28.What do we know about the new policy under consideration by T.S.A.?
A.It will go into effect before the coming holidays.
B.Travelers need to stand for long periods before the new policy comes out.
C.It aims to benefit PreCheck members at certain airports.
D. It will completely remove restrictions on liquids for passengers.
29.What does the underlined phrase “multilayered security protocols” most probably refer to?
A.several sets of safety‑related operating rules
B.high‑security luggage for air passengers
C.various travel‑related service contracts
D.multi‑layer protective clothing for travelers
30.What makes it hard for the new liquid rule to spread nationwide quickly?
A.Lack of advanced scanning devices in many small airports.
B.Strong disapproval from most security experts.
C.Travelers’ worry about travelling safety.
D.The high cost of updating airport runways.
31.Which of the following is among the recent changes made by T.S.A.?
A.It has permitted some PreCheck members without tickets to go through security.
B.It has canceled the shoe‑removal rule for all passengers nationwide.
C.It has carried out the new liquid policy at dozens of American airports.
D.It has updated computed tomography equipment in some small‑sized airport.

Elizabeth’s two sons, ages 8 and 10, have both been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. So have Elizabeth, 37, and her husband, 41.
Elizabeth was diagnosed with A.D.H.D. (注意力缺陷多动障碍)two years ago, after recognizing some of her sons’ symptoms in her current — and younger — self. “I didn’t know that the reason that it took me five hours to do my homework every night wasn’t because I wasn’t smart or because I didn’t try hard enough,” she said. “It’s because my brain was working against me.”
Now, with help from her systems and from medication, Elizabeth has learned to manage her symptoms and has advanced in her career as an environmental health and safety manager. “I went from bouncing around between random jobs,” she said, to being able to “focus well enough to have some direction.”
But despite her own success, Elizabeth still worries about how her sons’ A.D.H.D. will affect them as they get older. “As a parent, my job is to teach them how to be a human, how to function in today’s world,” she said. “And they have a harder time than most because their brains don’t work the way most people’s brains work.”
Back-to-school season, with its executive functioning demands and deadlines, can make these types of parental worries even more stark.
A.D.H.D. is a tricky condition to diagnose, study and track over a person’s life. It can present very differently in different people, and there are a wide range of symptoms, which exist on a spectrum from mild to severe. A.D.H.D. also often coexists with other mental health, developmental and behavioral disorders, including anxiety, autism and oppositional defiant disorder. (With rising rates in children and adults, some psychiatrists worry the condition is now being over diagnosed.)
It’s also not clear what percentage of children continue to have A.D.H.D. as adults. One frequently cited number is about 50 percent, with symptoms more likely to persist in adults who had more severe A.D.H.D. in childhood and more overlapping conditions.
Neuroimaging research suggests that some of the changes people experience with age may be partially attributed to brain development. One recent study found that children whose symptoms improved over the course of two years showed a different pattern of brain development than those whose symptoms persisted or got worse.
“Some children just grow out of it,” Dr. Swanson said. “You start with a group and you follow them over time, the symptoms decrease with age. That’s just an age-related effect. I call it maturation.”
32.According to the text, Elizabeth came to know she had ADHD two years ago when ______.
A.she found some symptoms of her sons matched her own past and present self
B.she spent five hours finishing her homework every single night
C.she was struggling with her work and kept changing jobs frequently
D.she turned to doctors after her two sons were diagnosed with ADHD
33.What do we know about ADHD?
A.Its symptoms remain the same from childhood to adulthood.
B.It only affects people’s academic performance at school.
C.It may occur together with some other mental or developmental disorders.
D.Doctors have reached an agreement that ADHD is being over-diagnosed now.
34.What can we learn from Dr. Swanson’s words?
A.Brain development decides whether one gets ADHD or not.
B.Some kids’ ADHD symptoms fade naturally with age.
C.Group studies show no connection between age and ADHD.
D.Maturation means children can recover through medical treatment.
35.What can we infer from the whole passage?
A.ADHD symptoms will surely disappear as people grow older.
B.Elizabeth’s family members all suffer from ADHD to varying degrees.
C.Elizabeth failed in her career before she took medication for ADHD.
D.Most children with ADHD still have the disorder when they become adults.

The Sunday Scaries — And How to Banish Them So You Can Actually Enjoy Your Entire Weekend
That uneasy feeling in your stomach on Sunday afternoon has a scientific explanation.36
It usually starts with one simple thought: Tomorrow is Monday. One minute you are enjoying the last part of your weekend. The next, your mind jumps to Monday’s tasks. You keep thinking about unfinished work. Your body tenses up, and your weekend joy fades away before Sunday ends. This shift from relaxation to worry is called the Sunday scaries. 37 A survey found over 80% of full-time workers have experienced such feelings, and many even lose sleep because of it.
What causes the Sunday scaries?
Despite its interesting name, the Sunday scaries come from our brain’s natural warning system. 38Alexander J. Shackman, a psychology professor, explains that mild worry on Sundays can be helpful. It allows us to look back on the past week and make plans for challenges ahead. Problems appear only when this system becomes overactive and ruins your Sunday.
Practical ways to beat the Sunday scaries
Luckily, there are useful ways to beat the Sunday scaries.
Turn vague worries into a clear plan. Set a short time to list important tasks for the coming week and write them down. Once you finish the plan, stop thinking about work. This method stops endless worrying and turns anxiety into practical action.
39Many people spend all Sunday mentally preparing for work and never truly rest. Research shows proper relaxation on weekends greatly reduces stress levels. Treat relaxation as a necessary part of your weekend, not a waste of time.
Move your body. Physical activity helps break the worry cycle. You can take a walk, go running or do simple strength training.40The aim is to stop repeating anxious thoughts instead of exhausting yourself.
A.Here is what it is and how to deal with it.
B.You do not need a tiring, high-intensity workout.
C.Many people wonder how long the Sunday scaries can last.
D.Set aside time for real relaxation.
E.And you are far from alone if you often suffer from the Sunday scaries.
F.This mental state is dangerous and should be removed completely.
G.It helps us notice possible risks and get ready for future challenges.

He had beautiful red hair, piercing hazel eyes that changed from green to blue, and a quirky sense of humor. He loved animals, road trips, Minecraft, Legos and chocolate ice cream. He was my Angel-Face.
He was born in 2001, nine weeks early and weighed only 2.52 lbs. He spent 35 days in the NICU before coming home. While in hospital, he spent three weeks on pure oxygen and was fed through a tube. Years later, doctors found the oxygen and liquid nutrition had caused discoloration in the enamel of his permanent teeth.
In second grade, the teasing began. “Why don’t you brush your teeth? Why are your teeth so nasty?” Although his teeth were healthy, they were mottled yellow. He was also picked on because of his hair, glasses and small size. Seen as weak, he became a target.
As Peyton grew older, he often wondered why people were so mean to him. He would ask me, “Mom, why can’t people just be nice?” I tried to encourage him, telling him he was special, smart and loved. But as children grow, parents’ words fade beside the voices of peers.
One day, Peyton told me he had reported bullying to the principal, who only told him to avoid the boy. When I asked why he had kept it secret, he sighed, “Mom, you can’t fix this.”

Should High School Students Use AI Frequently?
From my perspective, high school students should not rely on AI too frequently. Admittedly, AI can help us work out difficult problems and improve learning efficiency. However, over-reliance on AI will weaken our ability of independent thinking. As senior high students, we need to think independently to solidify knowledge. AI is only a helpful tool rather than a replacement for our own thinking. Therefore, we should make proper use of AI instead of depending on it all the time.

Paragraph 1: After we got home, Peyton went into his room. I could sense his disappointment and helplessness. I knocked gently and sat beside him. I told him simply avoiding the bully was never a proper solution. We sorted out all the details of the bullying incidents and recorded them carefully. The next morning, we visited the principal again. This time we fully explained the great harm the teasing had brought to Peyton. The principal promised to take practical measures and hold a class discussion about mutual respect.
Paragraph 2: From that day on, Peyton learned to see his own value. He no longer hid his hobbies and became proud of his unique qualities. Gradually, his sincere personality won him more friends. He still believed that everyone should be kind to each other. Later, he even volunteered to share his story at a school lecture to help other students suffering from bullying. Though hurt before, he chose bravery and kindness, shining brightly in his own way.
