Being a twin(双胞胎)
When people hear that I'm a twin, their first question is always "Can you and
par-
ents read each other's thoughts?"
Being a twin means always having a best friend and never being lonely. From
a very early age my sister and I both know what the other was thinking and
feeling.I’ve watched videos of us as young children, playing happily side by
side,not needing to say
anything.Sometimes even I can't tell which twin is which.
The teenage years are a difficult enough time for anyone, but they were even
worse for us.At school I joined the basketball team, listened to hip hop music anddressed in sporty clothes, and Paula didn't want to know me.If I wore trousers, she
wore a skirt. Her blonde hair was long and loose, while mine was dark and very
short. Sometimes we had disagreements, though they were quickly forgotten.Luckily
we never liked the same kind of food!At 18,we went to different universities and
didn't see each other for six months.
When we met up again she seemed like a stranger.
Now we are both in our twenties and live 500 kilometers apart, though we
speak or email most days. Our friends see us as individuals(个体),not twins.People
who know us both say were as different as night and day.Paula is shy and
kind, and always forgetting things.I am more confident (自信)than she is and I've
never forgotten a friend's birthday!
Yet we both love painting, running and dancing and hate people who are rude or
unkind!
Underneath we are just as close as ever.

Protect Children from Cyber-bullying
When you think about bullying, you might think of a child being bullied by
another in the schoolyard. As more young people have access to computers and
cell phones,
traditional bullying has gone digital, which has not yet gained awareness in
Chinese
parents.
Cyber-bullying,first invented by Canadian educator Bill Belsey,is the use of
the
Internet and related technologies to harm other people,in an
intentional,repeated,and
unfriendly manner. It involves threatening text messages, the spread of online
rumors on social networking sites, and intentionally keeping someone out of an
online group.Cyber-bullying is at an all-time high in the US.According to a study
from the US Department of Justice, more than 43%of teenagers report being
victims(受害者)of cyber-bullying.
Compared to face-to-face bullying,cyber-bullying is considered to have a
worse emotional effect on the victims, and kids could feel more desperate and
depressed.
Severe,long-term or frequent cyber-bullying can leave victims at greater risk for
anxiety,
depression, and other disorders.Research says that cyber-bullying victims were
almost
twice as likely to have attempted suicide compared to youths who had not
experienced it.
In traditional schoolyard bullying,at least home is a safe place for the
victims.Butcyber-bullying is endless-it could happen anytime. Moreover,in the digital
world, bullying is much easier,as a bully can pickon people with a muchower risk
of being caught.
Actually,cyber-bullying has become a worldwide issue.In the US,as several
teens committed suicide because of cyber-bullying,some schools set rules to punish
cyberbullies.Laws to punish cyber-bullying have been introduced in some states. In
China,
cyber-bullying is still considered by many parents and educators as a problem that
involves physical contact. However,as cell phones and laptops are becoming
common equipment for teenagers, social interactions have increasingly moved from
personal contact to virtual contact.Cyber-bullying is spreading faster than expected.
For schools and parents, safety rules should be set in the virtual world for
kids, such as telling them not to let out anything to a stranger.Active steps
should be taken to make the public aware of the seriousness of this
problem, because it would be too late to take measures after tragedy strikes.
38.According to the writer, which of the following is cyber-bullying?

A.cyber-bullying first started in Canada
B.measures should be taken against cyber-bullying
C.there is no escape from cyber-bullying for students
D.Chinese students are not facing serious cyber-bullying
41.Who is this passage mainly intended for?
A.Parents and educators. B.Victims and parents.
C.Teachers and students. D.Researchers and victims.D
The UK should start producing lab-grown meat to help solve the world's food
crisis (危机)according to a research group.A report by the Adam Smith Institute says
meat made in a laboratory is better for the environment and would be cheaper than
meat produced from farm animals.
Need for meat around the world is expected to increase by 70%by the year 2050.
So could people be eating lab-grown meat in the future?Usually animals like cows are
killed to produce the meat that people eat,but scientists have found a way to make meat
in a laboratory without killing any animals.
Animals are made up of cells (细胞).Scientists worked out how to take cells from
an animal,like a cow,and multiply (繁殖)them in a dish.In the end from one tiny
cell, tens of billions of cells can be grown. These join together to form meat.
In 2013,the first hamburger grown this way was eaten in London. It took a year to
produce and cost over ₤200,000 to make.Dr Mark Post, who created the world's first
hamburger from meat grown in a lab, told the BBC it "tastes exactly the same as the
meat we know”,When two food critics(评论家)tried the burger in20l3,one said it
was"close to meat"and another said it tasted like a real hamburger. Its not just beef that
is being created;
companies are also working on other meat like turkey and chicken.
The Adam Smith Institute says moving away from the present way meat is
produced would help reduce greenhouse emissions (排放)by up to 96%and free up 99%
of the land used in farming worldwide. They also think it will reduce chances of food
poisoning (中毒)because the meat is grown under such controlled conditions.Jamie
Hollywood from the Adam Smith Institute also told the BBC lab-grown meat could be
a lot cheaper. He says the price has gone down in five years from 200,000 to 8,so in the
future it could be even less.

44.The writer probably agrees that .
A.lab-grown meat will cause a lot of problems
B.lab-grown meat tastes better than animal meat
C.making lab-grown meat will cost too much money
D.lab-grown meat can help solve the world's food crisis
45.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

2.选D。考查情态动词表示推测。may not不可能的程度是80%左右,mustn't意思是:禁止;
3.选D。By the end of last year,根据内容可知,用过去完成时,A项为过去时,B项一般现
4,选A。
on the tree也可以当成in the tree来用,此外还专门特指生长在树上,如树上结的

7.选A。
During表示在…

10,选A。
B.be being done表示一个正在进行的动作,所以A表示“正在被建造】

第一句中的if his uncle will come是I don't know后的宾语从句,if在宾语从句中是“是
否”的意思,这里选择will come, wil是表示“意愿”的意思,第二句中he will come if it
doesn't rain是I think后的宾语从句,在这个宾语从句中if引导的是条件状语从句,he

去的虚拟,句型结构为if+主语+had done,主语+would/could/might/should+have done,故选B
