high和tall的区别

“tall” 强调事物本身从 “头” 到 “脚” 之间的距离 “很长”；

而 “high” 则强调事物最高点到某一个表面之间的距离 “很远”。

▶在描述“瘦而高”的事物时，应该用形容词 “tall”。

比如：tall buildings 高楼大厦；

a tall tree 一颗大树。

因为它们本身从头到脚之间的距离都很长。

▶而描述 “高而宽” 的事物就应该用 “high”。

比如：a high mountain 一座高山；a high wall 一面高墙；a high fence 一道高高的围栏。

因为这类事物的顶部离地面的距离“很远”。

下面我们通过一个例句来感受一下二者的区别：

That tall vase has been put on the high shelf against the high wall. But I am not tall enough to reach it. I need a ladder so I can get high enough to reach it.
