听力原文

Text 1M: We have to find a parking space. Let's drive around the block one more time. Did you say the restaurant has no street-parking at all?W: None, I checked it. Look, there's a space.

Text 2M: You have to go now, Judy, or you'll miss your flight. It's an hour’s drive to the airport.W: I'm leaving. Don't forget to water my flowers. Just a minute, where's my ticket, Dad?

Text 3M: Laura, what's in the mailbox?W: It's a thank-you note from our neighbor. They thank us for visiting them last week when the baby was born. They also invite us to have dinner next Friday.M: Are they back home now?W: Should be!

Text 4W: Good afternoon, Paper Museum.M: Hello, could you tell me your opening hours for Saturday?W: Yeah, we're open from 10 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon.M: Thanks.

Text 5M: Excuse me, where is the hotel gym, please?W: It's on the top floor. You can take the lift over there.M: Do I have to pay extra?W: No, sir, you just need to take your room key with you.

Text 6W: Mr. Wilson, students from Class 2 want to visit the museum. Will it be all right if I take them there this weekend?M: How about their revision test? Are they through with it?W: Yes, they are.M: In that case, you can go ahead. Try to finish it within one day so that the students still have a whole day to rest on Sunday.W: All right, I'll manage.

Text 7M: Hi, Linda. Fancy seeing you here. How long have you been shopping?W: Almost an hour. I have a lot to buy. My daughter Melissa's birthday is coming. I'm trying to get her a good gift, but I don't know what to choose. She seems to have everything she loves.M: Yeah, the same as Clara. We've already had bags of toys she's no longer playing with, so this year we didn't buy her material things. We gave her an experience gift.W: What's that?M: A city pass with which she can visit twelve different attractions, including the National History Museum, the Science Museum, the zoo, and more.W: How much is it?M: Fifty dollars per person for a year long pass. I bought three for the whole family.W: So you can have a different outing every month for the entire year. What a great idea!

Text 8M: Helen, busy doing anything?W: Oh, Kevin, I'm preparing a presentation for the city library. It's about a girl named Tracy Woods.M: What's special about her?W: It was an amazing story. She brought specially trained dogs to special education schools and helped children to build confidence. She believes that dogs can help children in ways we can’t. Dogs don't judge and they don't care who you are or what you look like.M: But putting dogs into a school? Aren't they going to mess up the school?W: Don't worry. All the dogs are assessed and trained properly. There are now 40 dogs working with children aged from 6 to 18.M: I hope the children love them.W: Of course, they do. I've got some pictures. I'll show them at my presentation tomorrow morning.

Text 9M: Emily, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions.W: It's my pleasure.M: People say you're doing unpaid work in the new season of My Fair Lady. Is this what the show business has become?W: No, not really. All of my acting in the new season is unpaid, but the crew is paid. This is to raise money for the post-production of the show.M: I notice you've tried many different kinds of things: film, TV, and even theater.W: Yeah, that's how I was trained at university. I work on anything that excites me.M: Tell us about the six months you recently spent at the workshop of the Film Centre.W: It was an unbelievable experience, teaching young actors and actresses, and working with some great acting artists. It was also great to work in various labs such as directors, writers and so on. It's very helpful for making you a really well-rounded and active member of the film and television industry.M: Thank you very much, Emily. We look forward to your new season.

Text 10Hi, everyone! This is the monthly meeting of our club. We've been fortunate to have got good advice from some famous athletes on how to improve our skills and build up our body. Today, we'll hear something different. We're honored to have Emma Wilson here. Emma is a health expert and lecturer from UBC, the University of British Columbia.Emma worked for a football team in Manchester, then for a very successful rugby team in Dublin, and finally ended up working here in Vancouver. Emma says it's challenging to be a health expert because people can be easily influenced by advertisements that lack scientific support. Also, people aren't willing to change their views about food and nutrition, as there is so much confusing information online. It's really important to hear what experts say, and that's why we've invited Emma here. She isn't going to tell us about everything we should eat, but she will teach us to make better choices. Let's welcome Emma William.

录音原文

Text 1M: Jenny, you can just drop me here.W: But we are two streets away from the office.M: It’s fine. I had a big breakfast, and feel like a bit of walk.

Text 2W: Hello, George. You look tired. Didn’t sleep well last night?M: No, not at all. I had to work flat out to meet the project deadline. Now I’m really feeling a bit run-down.

Text 3W: John, can’t we go someplace and talk? It’s so noisy in here.M: Well, there is a small park across the street. It’s usually not crowded at this time of day.

Text 4W: We’ve got to do something about the neighbor’s dog.M: Why? Has he been into your flower garden again?W: The flower garden, the garbage can and yesterday he started digging holes in the yard.

Text 5M: Hello, we have a reservation in the name of Mr. Johns. Is there any table by the window?W: Sorry, we’ve got this corner table for you. It’s quiet here, not close to the door.

Text 6W: Dave, don’t forget we are invited out to dinner tonight.M: Oh yeah. I almost forgot. What time?W: 7:30. We should leave the house by 6:30. You know how bad the traffic is that time of night.M: It’s informal, isn’t it?W: Yeah. You can wear your new sports jacket, the one I got you as an anniversary gift.M: Okay. Well, I’ve got to go. I’ll try to get home a little earlier today.W: Good.

Text 7M: We need to decide exactly when we’re going to move. Any suggestions?W: I think July would be the best time. Our sales are always down that month. We could move all the office equipment at a weekend—do everything at once.M: I think a weekend’s too short. Maybe we should do it department by department.W: What do you mean?M: Well, each week a different department will move. That way, there will always be people here to handle customer inquiries, phone calls, and so on.W: Hmm, that’s a good idea.

Text 8W: So, Mr. Peter Sayles, I’ve been curious to know what were the early connections in your life that led you into the art field.M: My grandfather was an art dealer in Munich. They had a great museum in Munich. He took me to the museum. And I responded very strongly to what I saw on the walls there. I learned about art from him. I learned about looking at art from him. I think that’s what really got me started. Then, many years later, after I got out of the army, I went to study art history at the University of Chicago.W: Tell us more about your experiences of looking at art with your grandfather.M: Well, we looked at the famous paintings by the great artists like Rembrandt, Botticelli and Albrecht Dürer. Rubens’ paintings were my favorites. Yes, I remember these things. This was when I was between 10 and 15. When I was 14, I was so anxious to see more art that a friend of mine and I bicycled across the Alps to see Venice. That was a big adventure.

Text 9W: Hi, John! Haven’t seen you for ages!M: Hi, Susan! Fancy meeting you here on the train!W: How is your college life?M: What can I say? I’ve survived.W: What happened?M: Well, early last March I started doing a part-time job in a law firm. A few weeks before I had started writing my term paper. I thought I could finish it by August.W: That was a pretty good idea trying to have some work experience.M: For the first three weeks, you know, I tried. I got up early and worked for an hour on my paper before going to work. But work was so fun, I met tons of new people and soon I couldn’t find even a minute for my paper. So, I had to quit my part-time job and finally finished my paper in October.W: Well, it’s never too late to mend. It’s kind of hard to find a balance between what you have to do and what you want to do.M: Yeah, it’s really important for me to balance study and work. And I think I should learn to exercise some self-control.

Text 10M: Being an athlete is very fun, painful and exciting. Every time I come to the track, I feel like I’m out of this place. This is Botswana National Stadium. This is where I train. When I saw Usain Bolt running in 2012 London Olympics, I was amazed. Just watching him run got me motivated. I quit being a chess player and started to run. I went to the 2016 Olympics, and went to the finals at the age of 18. And, wow, I finished fifth. It was a dream come true to me, but I still wanted more. The training is super hard, but the hardest part for me is that I got an injury—an injury which may take me out for years. For a period of time, as a young athlete, I didn’t know what to do. I lost focus. But now, I’m back on the track. I really want to be there at the Olympics, and do what I did before, do much, much greater. I don’t care about the gold. I don’t care about the silver. I want to do my best. You know, take everything and show it to the world.

录音原文

Text 1M: Excuse me, I got lost. I took a bus to city hall, but I can’t find the place.W: This is the concert hall, not city hall. To go there, you should take the bus at Grand Hotel over there.

Text 2M: Can I help you?W: I’m looking for a size twelve dress.M: Oh, let me see. An eight, a ten. Ah, you’re lucky. I have the prettiest dress here in a twelve. Why don’t you try it on?

Text 3W: Do you think you can take care of everything in the office today?M: No problem. Just go home and take a rest. If there is anything I feel I cannot handle, I’ll call you.

Text 4W: We have a half-day tour, a full-day tour and an evening tour. Which one would you like?M: What is the schedule of the half-day tour?W: It sets out at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 2:00 p.m.

Text 5M: Now, what seems to be the trouble, Mrs. Stevens?W: I’ve been very dizzy lately. And last night, I had some chest pain.M: Don’t worry. Let me have a look.

Text 6W: Wow. That was a great match. I really like watching tennis games.M: Me too. I think tennis is an exciting sport.W: I think so. Do you play tennis, John?M: Yes, but not very well. Do you play?W: A little. How about a game on Tuesday afternoon?M: Sure.

Text 7M: Mrs. White, I’m afraid we have to put you on a strict diet. From now on, you’re going to have to stay away from salty food.W: Does that mean I can’t have any more fast food?M: Right. You can’t have any fried food or steaks.W: What about breakfast food like eggs and sausages?M: Those are all bad for you. But you can have porridge, bread and orange juice.W: Well, what about lunch and dinner?M: Have a salad for lunch. As for dinner, you can have all the vegetables you want. Fish and chicken are also okay.W: What about dessert? Can I still have ice cream?M: Yes, but not too much.

Text 8M: Hi Nancy! You look worried. What’s wrong?W: Well Daniel, have you ever felt nervous on stage?M: Sure. Do you remember that play I was in a few years ago? I knew my lines, but I was terrified to have to recite them in front of an audience. I might forget how to spell everything, even my own name. I don’t know what to do.M: Nancy, I know that you’re not going to forget how to spell your name. I’ll help you get through this. I’ll go to the school hall with you to practice. Then I’ll teach you an exercise my baseball coach taught me. Believe me. It works.W: I feel much better now. Thanks, Daniel.

Text 9W: Hello, ladies and gentlemen! Today, we have invited Prof. Stone to talk about the role of elderly people in our society. Welcome to our show, Prof. Stone.M: To begin with, I’d like to tell a story from my own life. Several years ago, when my grandparents were well into their 80s, they were no longer able to care for themselves very well. My grandfather was afraid of leaving the only home they had known for the past 60 years. The idea of having to sell their home and move into a retirement home was an extremely painful experience for them. Indeed, old age for them, and many old Americans can mean not only the possible failure of one’s health, but the loss of identity and self-worth.W: Yes, it’s true. What do you have to say about the problem of old age?M: Many experts have given talks here that have focused on the medical care, and the development of public services for senior citizens. Today, I’d like to focus my comments on the meaningful roles that elderly can play and should play in our society.

Text 10W: Talking about personal relationships, well, I’d naturally think of my relationship with my mother. Whenever I need help, my mother is always there for me. She often tells me that I can be anyone I want, as long as I’m confident of myself. She sees my talent and pushes me to do the best I possibly can. As I was growing up, we were often on the move. I had to admit that moving so often made me feel lonely. But my mother did everything she could to help me feel happy. In fact, so much traveling was really a good thing because it made us close. I respect my mother so much as she never treats me as a child, but as an equal. She gives me the freedom to make mistakes and to learn from them all. Unlike friendships that can fade or break, I know I’ll always be connected to my mother no matter what I face. She is not just a role model, but someone I love.

Text 1W: I was in Mallorca last week.M: Oh, what were you doing there?W: My best friend worked there. And I went to visit her. It was a good chance to practice my Spanish.

Text 2M: Ruth, I've got this terrible cold and I have to see a doctor. I am afraid I can't go to the class. Could you help me hand in my lab report to Dr. Davidson?W: Sure, no problem. Just take care of yourself and don't worry about the class.

Text 3M: Marie, if no one takes care of your children while you're away, Jennifer and I will be glad to have them stay with us.W: That's very kind of you. But they've already left for their Grandma's. You know, Suzy lives close by.

Text 4M: Hurry up with your food, Sally. They say there's a big storm coming. We'd better get home before that.W: Okay, I'm done. Let's get back to the car. Could you carry these shopping bags?M: Oh, sure.

Text 5M: We deep fried fish three days ago in the kitchen, but the unpleasant smell stays.W: There is a method you can try. Every time you make coffee, dry the leftover coffee grounds and keep them in small bowls, then place the bowls in the kitchen.

Text 6W: Are you a football fan, Gomez?M: Yes, I go to the stadium whenever there is a good game. And if I can't get a ticket, I watch the game on TV. That way, they're less exciting, though.W: Is the ticket expensive?M: It depends. It usually costs about 20 to 50 dollars. Last time I paid 25.W: That's not very expensive. Maybe we can go together some time.M: Great. It'll be more fun to watch the game with a friend.

Text 7W: You're out the whole afternoon, Alex? What did you do?M: I took a walk by myself.W: You just kept walking and walking for four hours?M: Actually, it's not so boring. Walking in the woods is a grand adventure. Your feet can take you to the most amazing places.W: What did you do in the woods?M: I smelled the flowers, looked at the birds, and yeah, I picked many tree leaves. I will make bookmarks with them. Look!W: Aren't they beautiful?M: Then I met Bob at the lake. He was fishing while his kids were having a swim.W: Did you talk to him?M: No, I walked on and took a lot of pictures. There's just so much out there to see.

Text 8W: David, how was your holiday?M: Great, I climbed Mount Fuji. It was really beautiful. Now I can check one more thing off my list.W: Your list?M: Yes. When I was 12, I made a list of things I wanted to do some day.W: That's interesting. How many of the things on your list have you done so far?M: Almost half. I have pictures. Would you like to see them?W: Yes, sure.M: Here I am on top of Mount Fuji. And here I am in a hot air balloon.W: When did you do that? I've always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon.M: It was two years ago, in August, in California.W: What are your plans for the next holiday?M: I'm thinking of deep-sea diving in Australia. Do you have any other suggestions?W: You really ought to take a boat down the Amazon. You'll see a lot of interesting animals and beautiful trees. It's one of the best places I've been to.M: OK. I'll put it on my list.

Text 9W: Hello, Michael.M: Hi, Sarah.W: Are you attending the conference tomorrow morning at the Shelton Hotel?M: Yes. Are you?W: Yeah, but when I arrived home five minutes ago, I found that my car wouldn't start. And John is in Brighton on business.M: Do you know what's wrong with the car?W: I'm not exactly sure. I think there is a problem with the engine. Err… I wonder if you could give me a ride to the hotel tomorrow morning.M: Sure. When shall I be at your place?W: Well, what about 8:00? From my place to Shelton, we have to drive through the quarters, so we'd better leave early to avoid the traffic.M: OK. No problem. It takes twenty minutes to reach your place. So I'll set off at 7:40. By the way, do you also need me to drive you home tomorrow afternoon?W: No, John will be back then, and he'll get me home. Thank you, Michael.M: That's okay. See you tomorrow.

Text 10W: Hello, everyone. Today I'll talk about how to improve your pronunciation. Language researchers say pronunciation and fluency are the biggest barriers, followed by grammar, in effective spoken English. However, most people don't regard pronunciation as a very important part of communication skills. They're more focused on vocabulary. One reason is that most people are not even aware of their mispronunciations. So it's important to first find out the words you mispronounce. You should listen to experts, by experts, I mean those who are less likely to make pronunciation mistakes. When listening to them, pay attention to words that sound strange, strange because you pronounce the same words differently. When you come across such words, check a dictionary to confirm their exact pronunciations. You can also search for difficult-to-pronounce words and names, and make a list of them. The last suggestion is to read aloud. Now you've got the correct pronunciations of the words, it's time to practice reading them every day.

Text 10M: Hello, I’m Jeff Anderson from Coventry, England. And in today’s program, I’d like to share with you a special kind of English culture — the football. A lot of people in England are crazy about football. During the football season, whenever there is a big match, all the flags for local football teams, such as Liverpool and Newcastle are hung outside every window or even spread proudly on T-shirts or scarves. There is an atmosphere of excitement in the air. Groups of young men crowd into dark packed pubs, staring at television screens. Of course, they are covered head to toe in the colors of their team. They shout and scream in sadness when their team loses a goal or with joy when there is a moment of success. You do not have to be a fan of football to get caught up in the excitement, as far as victories are concerned. England had its big moment in 1966 in Wimbledon Stadium. The World Cup victory is in the hearts and minds of all football fans. Now, whenever England is playing a big match, red and white covers every inch of every pub, a symbol of hope — the English flag. While football has never been something I’m particularly interested in. For years, I’ve had to pretend excitement and pick a team to support. You cannot say you don’t like or do not follow football in England, as often this will lead to a long dialogue in which someone will begin telling you why you should support their team.

Text 4W: Excuse me, could you tell me what time Flight AF35 gets in?M: Well, it's due in at 6:20 p.m. But the announcement said just now that it has a thirty-minute delay because of the bad weather.

Text 5M: Miss Miller, could you tell me how I can improve this article? I got a B plus.W: It's quite good, actually. The language use is good and the main points are covered. There is just too much repetition. You could have said everything within two pages.

How about you, Sarah?W: Well, I love seeing musical plays on Broadway with my friends. Have you been to many?M: Not really. Text 9W: A big dog celebrates a big birthday this year. Clifford, the Big Red Dog, first appeared 50 years ago, along with Emily Elizabeth, the little girl who loves him. Today we have Norman Bridwell, to talk with NPR's reporter on his dog’s 50th birthday. So, Norman tell us how it all started.M: Well, it was 1962 and I was a struggling, not very successful artist in New York. My wife suggested that I try my hand at painting for children's books. So I did ten paintings and took them to publishers. I was turned down everywhere, except at one publisher, where a young woman told me I wasn’t very good. So if I wanted to paint for a book, I'd need to write one on my own.W: So you did?M: Umm, the woman pointed to a painting I’d done, of a little girl with a big red dog, and she said “Maybe that's a story”. But it was just luck.W: And that luck turned into 90 Clifford books that have sold 126 million copies in 13 languages.

Text 10M: Hello, everyone. Today I'm going to talk about small talk, that is, short conversations people often have with strangers they meet. Such exchanges occur at bus stops, on buses, while waiting in line, almost anywhere that strangers gather close together. As a matter of fact, these short conversations are a good way for people to say hello and express friendliness. Such conversations usually cover a wide range of topics. The topics may include weather, customer service, movies, TV shows, local sports or latest news. But you should always keep it in your mind that private questions about salaries, family life, religious beliefs and politics should be avoided during these conversations. Besides, it's better to ask open-ended questions. If you ask visitors “Do you like our city?” They may say simply, "Yes". On the other hand, if you ask, "What do you think of our city?" They will have more freedom in answering. This type of question also shows that you're interested in them. If you appear interested in what people are saying, they'd feel more comfortable talking with you.

录音原文

Text 1

M: Excuse me. Is there a flower shop nearby?

W: Yes, do you see the bakery over there? Next to it, you’ll see a red umbrella. That’s where the flower shop is.

Text 2

W: Are Tom and Anne getting married on June?

M: No. They have rescheduled their wedding for late July. After the wedding, they’ll go on their honeymoon.

Text 3

W: Which supermarket do you usually go to?

M: I always shop at Brown’s.

W: A new supermarket has opened in this area. It’s much bigger.

M: I know. But it’s always packed with people.

Text 4

W: Jack, Mrs. Palmer wants us in her office.

M: Right now? For what?

W: She wants us to meet the new sales manager.

Text 5

M: I’d like to summarize what it is we’re looking for.

W: Good.

M: Basically, we want the printing cost to come down by 15%.

W: Well, it’s really hard for us to offer such a price cut.

Text 6

W: Happy New Year, Mike!

M: Happy New Year!

W: Have you made any resolutions?

M: I’d like to eat less and exercise more this year. Three hamburgers a day is probably not a good idea.

W: Yeah, many people hope to be healthier in the new year. You always see a lot of people start joining gyms. I heard some kind of statistic that gyms are always 50% more crowded in the month of January. And then usually by February, it’s back to normal.

M: It’s so true. It’s always difficult to keep up the workout routine.

Text 7

M: Fenny, if you’re up in London tomorrow, I’ve got two tickets for the American Ballet Theatre! Would you like to come?

W: Thanks, but I’ll be busy tomorrow.

M: No problem. Maybe another time. Do you have plans?

W: Yes, I’ll meet Katie at the Olympia Exhibition Centre. Remember her? We went to the same art school. Some of her designs are going to be exhibited there. She is hoping one of the big clothes companies might buy them.

M: Setting her sights high, isn’t she?

W: Yeah, she is aiming high. But she has what it takes to get there.

Text 8

W: People are increasingly concerned about online security. And many experts are now offering advice on how to use smartphones safely.

M: What advice?

W: Let me ask you first: How long have you kept your phone on so far?

M: For over a year now. It’s not that I’m addicted to it, or have important calls, but I need the alarm to wake me up every morning.

W: Yeah, but that’s where the risk is. According to experts, we should switch our phones off and on once a day as a security measure. It helps close the applications running in the background and stop data collection processes we’re not aware of.

M: Sounds reasonable. Do we switch the phone off and switch it back on immediately?

W: Well, better wait for a few minutes.

M: When do you usually do that?

W: I do it every night before going to bed.

W: Welcome to History of the English Language. Since the class is quite small, I plan to run this course as a discussion. I hope everyone will be fully engaged and volunteer to share your knowledge and opinions. I won’t take attendance, but since part of your grade depends on participation, I encourage you to come to class.

M: Professor Moore?

W: Yes?

M: Could you tell us more about the assessment of the course?

W: Certainly. In addition to your participation in class, which accounts for 10%, there will be a midterm test, 20%; a final exam, 30%; and a research paper, 40%. Any questions?

M: Do we have any reading assignments?

W: Yes, I believe you’ve all got your textbook. You have to finish reading assigned chapters before each class. Apart from that, there’s a list of books you’re required to read. Now let’s have a close look at it.

Text 10

W: Hello, everybody. Thanks for your consistent support for our weekly meeting, New Books Sharing. Today, we’ve invited Dr. Caspar Melville, a lecturer from the University of London. Dr. Melville started out as a music journalist for a black music magazine called Blues and Soul. In 1992, he moved to San Francisco, and founded a jazz magazine named On the One with some friends. They did a really good job, though there was not a lot of money in it. In 1997, he moved back to London and started teaching, and made the decision to find another way to write about music. He grew up in London. He feels that the music in London clubs has formed him, but unfortunately, it has been seriously undervalued by the academic world. In black music studies, jazz has received great attention, but dance music has been largely ignored. His book, It’s a London Thing, is meant to change that situation. So let’s welcome Dr. Melville to share with us his ideas in the book.
