(Original Text)
※ Conversation 1
A: Sh, listen carefully. Did you hear that? No? How about this? If you couldn't hear the first one, it means you're not a dog. Hahaha... Dogs can hear very high frequency sounds, but people can't. And if you could hear the second one, you're younger than 25.
B: Wow, why is that?
A: Our ears change when we get older. Children and young people can hear the second one, but most people older than 25 can't.
※ Conversation 2
A: Today's topic is, should teenagers date? Team A, please begin.
B: We say no, they shouldn't. One reason is that teenagers are too young. They should think about schoolwork and spend more time studying.
C: We don't agree with Team A. Our answer is yes, teenagers can date if they want. It is quite natural for a teenager at that age to feel he or she likes somebody. We think it's possible for teenagers to date and study at the same time.
A: Team A.

※ Conversation 3
Julie: Hi, Adam, are you going to join a club?
Adam: Hi, Julie. I'd like to, but I'm not sure which one.
Julie: I think I would join the ballet club. It's always been my dream to be a dancer. And ballet has such beautiful movements.
Adam: Oh, well, dancing is not for me. I've got two left feet. Mister Brown told me about the nature club. They watch biology lectures and grow plants in the greenhouse. I like animals, but I'm not so interested in plants.
Julie: Did you hear about the Cartoon Club?
Adam: Yes, I love cartoons. But what do they do in the club? Watch cartoons?
Julie: No, they write stories and draw cartoons.
Adam: Oh, no, I'm not good at drawing. Besides, I'd like to do something outdoors.
Julie: Max is in the volunteer club. He says that they mostly help clean up parks and give directions to visitors. Why not talk to him?
Adam: Sure, I'd like that.
(Translation)
A: A队请。
(Sentence Analysis)
Conversation 1
A: Sh, listen carefully. Did you hear that? No? How about this?
💡 Diane's Note:
listen carefully: 仔细听 (pay close attention)。
How about...?: 意思是“…… 呢?“ (What about...?)。
A: If you couldn't hear the first one, it means you're not a dog. Hahaha... Dogs can hear very high frequency sounds, but people can't.
💡 Diane's Note:
mean [miːn]: v.
frequency [ˈfriːkwənsi]: n.
A: And if you could hear the second one, you're younger than 25. B: Wow, why is that?
💡 Diane's Note:
A: Our ears change when we get older. Children and young people can hear the second one, but most people older than 25 can't.
💡 Diane's Note:
get older: 变老,年龄增长 (grow old)。
Conversation 2

💡 Diane's Note:
【重点语法】表语从句:在句子 One reason is that...

💡 Diane's Note:
It is + adj. + for sb. + to do sth.(对某人来说做某事是…… 和 to date and study...。
natural [ˈnætʃrəl]: adj.
at the same time: 同时 (simultaneously / concurrently)。

(Bilingual & Functions)
A: Hi, Sam! I've decided to join the Music Club.
B: Good decision!
A: How about you? Are you going to join a club?
B: Yes. I'm wondering which one I should choose: the Acting Club or the Ballet Club?
A: I guess the question is... Do you like dancing better than acting?
B: Actually, I like acting better, but my friends go to the Ballet Club and I want to be with them.
A: Hmm... If you ask me, I think you should choose what you like.
(Decisions & Hesitations)
①:I've decided to join the Music Club.
②:I'm wondering which one I should choose.
主编外刊级拓展:在高考写作或口语中,表示“决定”还可以用 make up one's mind to do sth. 或者 be determined to do sth.。
(Preferences & Choices)
Do you like dancing better than acting?
Do you prefer dancing to acting?
(Giving Advice)
If you ask me, I think you should choose what you like.
类似的高级替换还有:From my perspective, ... 或 As far as I'm concerned, ...。
Uncle Sam 👉
Sam's Club 👉
