At Cambridge, you'll be taught by inspiring teaching staff who are experts in their
fields.
How you'll spend your study time
Most of your teaching will take place in-person. So, you'll need to be available tostudy in Cambridge. The number of hours you spend studying each week will depend on
your course. But you can expect to spend a minimum of 35 hours per week on independent
study and contact time. In some cases, this might be significantly more. It can take time
to adjust to your new workload. But there are plenty of people who can offer advice and
support while you get settled in and throughout your degree.
Supervisions
At Cambridge, you'll be taught through personal tutorials, known as supervisions.
A supervision is a small group discussion about the topic you're studying. It will be led
by a specialist (a supervisor) in the subject area. They may be a world-leading or national
authority on a topic.
Benefits of Cambridge supervisions

Hong Kong chef Grace Choy captured the hearts of audiences on “Chef of
China”, a cooking competition on July 17. Choy's personal journey proves it's never
too late to pursue one's dreams.
Beginning her cooking career at the age of 43, Choy initially hesitated to join theshow due to the belief that she didn't fit the mold of a “TV contestant” because of her
age. However, with encouragement from a close friend, she took the leap, hoping her
journey would inspire others to chase their passions regardless of age.
While the show looked enjoyable on screen, the filming process was incredibly
demanding. They had to wake up at 5 in the morning and often didn't finish until midnight.
Despite the exhausting schedule, Choy embraced the challenge and saw the show as an
opportunity to showcase her skills and share her vision with a vast audience.
The standout moment arrived when Choy captivated the judges with her exquisite
soy sauce chicken. For the competition, Choy created Queen's Chicken, a recipe crafted
with deep care and complexity intentionally for the females. It’s a tribute to grace,
nourishment, and the feminine spirit. The dish typically takes a long time to prepare, but
Choy shortened the cooking time to 2 hours to meet the requirements of the
competition.
Choy's cooking philosophy is centered on innovation and the harmonious blend of
different elements. Her signature soy sauce chicken is already deeply rooted in Hong
Kong and Cantonese cuisine. Her passion for cooking has also impressed her viewers,
who were drawn to her friendliness and perseverance. Despite lacking formal training,
her steady love for cooking has pushed her to remarkable heights. Choy was fortunate to
receive wholehearted mentorship from renowned chefs who admired her fearless spirit
as a middle-aged woman. Her restaurant, ChoyChoy Kitchen, is recognized as one of
the Best Private Kitchens in Hong Kong.

We've all heard the advice: Drinking enough water is a key pillar to feeling your
best. But is there any truth behind this common recommendation? To find out, I conducted
a 30-day experiment, increasing my daily water intake to 2.7 liters, the higher end of
the recommended range for women.
Before the experiment, I considered myself reasonably hydrated, consuming
around1.5—1.9 liters daily. Yet, I often experienced mild headaches and afternoon energy
slumps—symptoms I later learned could indicate chronic(长期的) mild dehydration. My
original goal was to see if conscious hydration could alleviate these issues and improve
my athletic performance.
The results were subtle but telling. My sleep quality improved unexpectedly; by
hydrating adequately throughout the day, I no longer woke up thirsty at night. Furthermore,
my endurance during evening workouts was enhanced. I felt more comfortable and less
thirsty while exercising, which was a sharp contrast to days when I failed to drink enough
water beforehand. Most importantly, I noticed a significant reduction in both the frequency
and severity of my headaches, particularly after multiple days of high water intake in a
row.
Surprisingly, my overall energy levels remained unchanged. While a sip of cold
water offered a momentary refreshment, it didn't combat the general midday fatigue. The
experiment revealed a key insight: the primary benefit of drinking enough water may not
be an added health boost, but rather the avoidance of the negative effects of dehydration.
By consistently sipping water throughout the day—instead of waiting until I was thirsty
—I allowed my body to function more efficiently. In this sense, the “benefits” of staying
hydrated—like improved exercise performance or sharper focus—are simply the result
of the body operating as it should, free from the drag of dehydration. It is crucial to note,
however, that rare, excessive water consumption in a short period can be dangerous,
leading to water intoxication. When left untreated, it can be fatal. Ultimately, hydration
is about maintaining a balance, and fluids can come from various sources like other
beverages and water-rich foods.
(B)28.The underlined word “pillar” in the first paragraph is closest in meaning to
“________”.
A.problem B.foundation
C.advice D.result
最佳状态的一个关键________。”
(B)29.Which is the most beneficial outcome of drinking more water for the
author?
A.Better sleep quality.
B.Relief from headaches.
C.Enhanced exercise endurance.
D.A significant increase in overall energy.
(D)30.What is the key point of the article's conclusion about drinking enough
water?
A.It demands plain water to be effective.
B.It merely offers psychological benefits.
C.It provides a magical health enhancement.
D.It mainly avoids the harm of dehydration.
(C)31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Thirst is the best indicator for when to drink.
B.Coffee and juice cannot contribute to hydration.
C.Regular drinking is superior to occasional large intake.
D.The author experienced dramatic health transformation.
By consistently sipping water
throughout the day—instead of waiting until I was thirsty...(通过一天中持续小口喝水,
D
A new study, published in the journal Sex Roles, found that when women see certain
types of pictures and videos on social media, it inspires them to challenge unrealistic
beauty standards. These images including body-positive pictures and funny contents
that make fun of negative stereotypes(刻板印象) can make women feel better about their
own bodies and create feelings of gratitude and hope, which are important for creating
social change.
The study involved 252 young women between the ages of 18 and 35 and compared
the effects of viewing and rating idealized body images with those of body-positive and
humorous parody content. The findings show a clear and positive impact of body-positive
and humorous parody imagery, with exposure to images that critique unrealistic body
ideals increasing women's body satisfaction. Researchers also found a link between
viewing this type of imagery and women's engagement in online activism, including
intentions to both stop the use of unrealistic body portrayals and promote more diverse
representations.
Dr. Fabio Fasoli, leading author of the study and senior lecturer in social psychologyat the University of Surrey, said, “Social media are a central part of everyday life,
offering space to connect, share, and stay informed. But for many, particularly women,
social media platforms can be a difficult place to exist, filled with content specially
designed to keep you scrolling, and in some cases, strengthen unrealistic images. Our
study has found that promoting diverse and realistic images on social media is crucial not
only for improving individual well-being, but also for encouraging the community to
advocate for broader social change against the current situation. By encouraging young
women to follow and engage with body-positive accounts, we can improve their mental
health and foster critical thinking about media.”
The research also showed how feelings of gratitude toward women who challenge
beauty standards and share diverse and realistic bodies are a powerful motivator for
collective action on social media, highlighting the importance of gratitude for the work
that others are already doing in improving society and women's representation in the
media.
(B)32.What does the research mainly focus on?
A.Methods for analyzing social media contents.
B.Impacts of body-positive contents on women.
C.Negative effects of social media on body images.
D.Relationship between humor and online activism.
A new study, published in the journal Sex
Roles, found that...body-positive pictures and funny contents...”
(A)33.What were the participants required to do in the study?
A.View and grade body-related imagery.
B.Participate in beauty standard discussions.
C.Create body-positive and humorous content.
D.Measure their own body satisfaction and gratitude levels.
The study involved 252 young
women... and compared the effects of viewing and rating idealized body images with
those of body-positive and humorous parody content.”。
搞的),“view and grade”为同义替换,故选项A正确。
(Researchers also found a link),而不是参与者被要求做的事情。
(A)34.What does Dr. Fabio Fasoli imply in paragraph 3?
A.Social media’s negative impact can be reduced.
B.Social media’s essential role is to share information.C.Women should avoid social media to protect mental health.
D.Following body-positive accounts develops critical thinking.
故选A。
(D)35.What role does gratitude play according to the research?
A.It motivates the development of social media.
B.It encourages women to follow idealized accounts.
C.It helps women avoid the engagement in social media.
D.It promotes joint action against false beauty standards.
答案依据在末段:“feelings of gratitude...are a powerful
motivator for collective action on social media”。
A项“motivates the
development of social media”未提及;B 项“idealized accounts”与“women who
challenge beauty standards and share diverse and realistic bodies”不符。C项“avoid
the engagement in social media”矫枉过正,不符合文意。
For most people, hearing the warm words “dinner's on the table” brings back
memories of home-cooked meals shared with family. 36.__E__ However, “dinnertime”
as we currently know it was once different and has experienced a series of evolutions.
37.__F__ Family members would eat in shifts, setting up a small table in a hallway
or outside, or by the fireplace. In colonial(殖民的) times, the midday meal—“dinner”—
was the largest one, while “supper” was a smaller evening meal. That changed during the
Industrial Revolution. 38.__A__ Laborers who were not paid for their lunchtime began
to eat a quick, lighter meal at midday, moving dinner to the end of the day as the main
family meal. For families of all socioeconomic levels, evening automatically became the
time when everyone would be back at home together. Dinnertime started to be an important
occasion.
At present, flexible lifestyles, changing patterns of work-life balance, and evolving
family structures have led to the appearance of a new kind of family dinner. 39.__C__ A
few clicks on the phone can bring people whatever their heart or stomach desires—
Caribbean, Japanese, Italian and every other country's cuisine, not to mention delivery
options that can meet special dietary needs. This makes sense given the various dining
preferences of the newest age group.
40.__D__ Regardless of who cooks the food, where it's eaten, and who you're
eating with, the nightly tradition of sharing a meal while connecting with loved onesalways stands strong.
A.People began to work outside of the home.
B.Family dinners are not always this flexible.
C.There's never been so much variety for dinner.
D.Despite the changes, the central concept remains.
E.It's a magical phrase representing a warm time at sunset.
F.Families didn't eat together in the evening before the 1700s.
G.In the late 19th century dinnertime served as a symbol of stability.
馨时光”,其中 “It” 指代 “dinner's on the table” 这句话,能承接上文,所以

结合语境可知,“for the first time”强调的是从过去到现
have discovered 最能体
“Specifically”
“in/by comparison with”为固定短语,意为“与……
构成“will further enrich..., provide..., and present...”
前有“one of the most crucial”修饰,用可数名词复数

Choosing a major, make our own decision or follow parents' advice?
In my opinion, choosing a major should mainly be our own decision, though parents'
suggestions deserve respect.
For one thing, our personal interests are the most powerful driving force for academic
success. Interests, once ignored, may fade away easily, thus making study a painful task
and leaving us unmotivated in future study. For another, even though we should never
dismiss parents' valuable guidance, it is we who will live with the choice. The final call
must rely on our inner passion and reasoned judgment.
Therefore, only when we follow our own heart while wisely choosing parents’ advice
can the decision be both practical and fulfilling.
Choosing a major, make our own decision or follow parents' advice?
From my perspective, following our parents' suggestions in choosing a major is
often a wiser path.
To begin with, their richer life experience enables them to view the job market more
objectively and predict possible challenges that we might overlook when relying only on
our own enthusiasm. Additionally, passion, once overvalued, may lead to short-sighted
decisions and wasted efforts. In contrast, parental guidance, grounded in both rational
reflection and foresight, helps us make decisions that are not only suitable but
sustainable.
So, only when youthful ambition is guided by parental wisdom can our choice truly
balance reality with personal pursuit, turning uncertainty into steady progress.
When we arrived in Tournus, my cousin Gabriel and I parked our bikes near the
wharf(码头), and walked to the town square. Like me, Gabriel's crazy about cycling. He's
16 and I get to join his longer rides because we're training for a charity cycling event.
We'd just ridden 33 kilometers (20 miles), our stomachs were growling nonstop. We
planned to grab lunch, then head back to Mcon, our small French town on the Sane
River.
As we ate by the river, we noticed a girl in a USA Basketball T-shirt with her mom.
They sat on a bench, enjoying bread, in front of the Voyageur—a long, narrow riverboat
that'd docked earlier. Then they boarded, and the boat started gearing up to leave. When
the sailors pulled up the anchor, my eye caught a colorful shopping bag left on the bench—
the girl's, for sure!
I glanced up. Passengers were gathering on the boat's upper deck, including the girl
and her mom. I held up the bag high and waved to get their attention while Gabriel called
out, “Excuse me, ladies!”
The girl's mouth dropped when she saw the bag—but her face fell as the boat inched
away from the dock. She looked like she'd given up on getting her stuff back. Thinking
fast, I pointed to our bikes and yelled, “We're biking to give you the bag!” The girl's
eyes widened a little, as if not sure to believe it or not, but she gave a small wave back
before the boat pulled farther out. Running beside the boat, Gabriel learned from a sailor
it was heading to Mcon too, taking under two hours at 22 km/h.
“Do you think we can catch up?” I asked. Gabriel laughed. “We're about to
find out!” I threw the bag over my shoulder, and we set off on our bikes.

The river glittered in the sun, but we had no time to glance at it—every second mattered.
My legs burned as we tried to catch up, and my breath came in sharp gasps, but at the
thought of the girl's fallen face, I yelled out “Faster!” When we finally arrived at
the wharf of Mcon, the Voyageur was already there, empty and idle, its decks quiet.

“ Look ! ” Raising my head, I found the girl and her mom making their way toward
us. I waved the bag in response. The girl's face lit up in astonishment when I handed her
the bag. “Thank you. What you did was incredible!” she said, hugging the bag. “It's
nothing really,” Gabriel and I looked into each other's eyes and laughed. Exhausted
as we were, the grins on our faces said it all: winning this “race” wasn't about speed—it
was about doing the right thing.
“我” 举袋挥手,Gabriel呼喊母女,女孩见袋惊讶却因船离岸而失落;

Text 1
M: I hate my laptop. It's too old to run the latest software. I want to have it replaced
now.
W: Will you check the new models at the store, Max?
M: No. I’ll see them online this weekend. I promise I will make a quick decision
and get one.
Text 2
W: Mike, it's raining really hard. Taking the bus will be slow, but I don't see any
taxis around.
M: I'll use an app to order a car. OK, the driver is 5 minutes away. But there is no
balance in my WeChat account now and I don't have any cash.
Text 3
W: Hi, Harris. I planned to give my presentation on Thursday, but it will have to be
rescheduled two days in advance because of my business trip.
M: Oh, I see. I will inform the staff of the change.
Text 4
M: Excuse me. Does this bus go downtown?
W: Yes.Where are you heading?
M: I'm heading to the National Museum.
W: Oh, me too! I am just waiting for the same bus! You'll get off at Beauty Street
with me, walk two blocks and go past a coffee shop.
Text 5
M: Beth, I want to learn to play ping-pong in China. Would you like to recommend a
coach to me?
W: I'd love to. Mr. Ma can be a good choice. My brother learns from him. They have
a training session today. We can meet him later if you want.
M: Go ahead.Text 6
M: So, have you thought about what kind of job you want after graduation, May?
W: Yes. My family recommended a management job to me, but I'm more interested in
working in marketing. What troubles me is that I'm not sure if I'd prefer a large company
or a small one.
M: I understand. I've been a designer in different companies. Large companies offer
great resources, while smaller ones give more freedom and responsibility.
W: That's true. I also like the idea of a creative job.
M: Well, working in a large company can sometimes be structured and require
cooperation from many departments, but working in a small start-up might give you
that creative freedom. I think you'd choose the latter.
W: Thank you, Simon. That's what I'm going to do.
Text 7
W: You look upset, Alex. What's wrong?
M: Oh, Lisa. I had a huge fight with Sam yesterday. I was so stressed about missing
the project deadline, and I took it out on him.
W: I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you should call him and apologize?
M: I would, but I can't find my phone anywhere. I think I left it in the library.
W: Well, finding your phone is step one. Then you can call Sam. I'm sure he'll
understand if you explain how stressed you were.
M: You're right. Thanks, Lisa. I feel better already. I'll go look for my phone now.
Text 8
M: I've been feeling really tired and sleepy lately and even sick occasionally. Do
you have any advice on how to improve my energy levels, Helen? You always seem
energetic.
W: Well, Jeff, one thing that can really help is improving your diet. Eating apples,
carrots and things like that can give you more energy.
M: That makes sense. You know my parents have gone on business. I've eaten a lot
of burgers, fries, and pizza lately, and I feel like they are starting to affect my health.
W: That's definitely not a good choice. Try replacing them as soon as possible.
M: I'll try that. How about exercise? Does it help with my health?
W: Absolutely! Regular exercise like swimming and cycling does a lot of good.
Even something as simple as a 20-minute slow run each day can make a huge difference,
which I personally advise you to try. We can work out together if you'd like.
M: That would be great!
Text 9
M: Hey, Lucy, I'm thinking about buying a cat in the pet store. What do you think
of it?
W: It's a great idea, Tim, but there is an animal shelter nearby. Do you think about
getting a cat there? The cats there need a loving home! It's better for the neighborhood
too!
M: That's true. I'm just a little concerned that they might not be fit and strong.
W: Some cats will need more care. So, just ask the center.
M: OK, how do I get a cat?W: Just fill in the application form online first, which requires your basic information.
They'll do the background check first, and help you find the right cat.
M: Sounds good! I really want to get a young orange cat. I'll do that this afternoon.
Text 10
Good morning, everyone. First, let me extend my warmest congratulations to the
freshman class. This year has been full of challenges, and I'm glad we can still gather
here, even if it's in a slightly different format than usual. Your quality of being able to
change is truly inspiring. When you faced the unexpected changes in your middle school
years, you didn't give up. You adapted with courage. Your ability to adjust so quickly to
new situations is something I admire. For some of you, this is just the beginning of your
journey in high school, but for others, it may be a fresh start in a new environment. No
matter what lies ahead, I want you to know that our school communities are here for you
every step of the way. If you ever feel lost or unsure about what the future holds, remember
that we are here to guide and encourage you. I'm incredibly proud of each one of you,
and I know your families are too. Remember, every challenge is a chance to learn and
every mistake is a step towards success. Keep pushing forward, and never stop believing
in yourselves.
