However, there’s still some confusion about what can and what can’t be recycled. With advances in technology, there are more things that can be recycled. COFFEE PODS (咖啡荚) On average, Australians are using more than three million coffee pods per day, and about 1.5 million households have coffee machines. While the pods are disastrous for the environment, they can still be recycled. Nespresso has a free post-back programme and drop-off points run by TerraCycle, so you can take the pods and directly drop off at Nespresso stores. LIGHT BULBS Rather than throwing light bulbs into the bin, some councils run specific recycling stations, which allow you to 3/58drop off these kinds of items. If you do regularly recycle household glass, remember all glass should be washed and have lids removed. PIZZA BOXES Normally pizza boxes don’t make it into recycling because they’re covered in grease (油脂) and leftover bits of cheese. When a pizza box is too greasy, it won’t be taken to a recycling processing plant. If possible, remove as much of the leftovers as you can before recycling. If the pizza box can’t be recycled, tear off the lid which can still be recycled. HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES Household batteries can also be recycled. Batteries that do end up in landfills can cause a serious problem to the environment as they can release poisonous chemicals into the soil which are harmful to both humans and animals. Button-cell batteries, which are used in hearing aids and watches, can also be recycled. 1.Why does TerraCycle run the free post-back programme and drop-off points? A.To recycle coffee pods easily. B.To offer good coffee for free. C.To exchange coffee machines. D.To warn people of the harm of coffee. 2.What do people need to do first to recycle pizza boxes? A.Wash them many times. B.Take them to the government. C.Clear the leftovers as much as possible. D.Return boxes to the pizza shop quickly. 3.In which section of a magazine can we read the text? A.Health. B.Environment. If you’re Latanya DeVaughn, you will make a new and improved one! As a mom and writer, she had always dreamed of opening her own bookstore, so after watching another close its doors for good, she saw her chance. While Latanya said every neighborhood deserved a bookstore, actually making it happen simply wasn’t possible. What she came up with instead was to transform a bus into a bookmobile! With the help of her community, she raised funds for her dream and, at the end of 2021, it came true! Bronx Bound Books rolled out in style as a bus with orange cube bookshelves. “People love the way it smells,” Latanya added. “One woman said the wood smell makes her feel like she’s at home.” Although the bookstore on wheels carries around 30,000 new and used books, it has more room than you might expect! Latanya also makes sure to prepare books with a variety of characters, so all readers can see themselves in the pages. Of course, her collection also features works of famous Black authors like James Baldwin and Alice Walker. 6/58“It’s meant to be that way,” she explained, “because I remember going to bookstores and having to look through books just to find someone I felt I could identify with.” Setting up her bookstore in a new spot each day, Latanya is doing her part to ensure that everyone in the neighborhood will be exposed to books. That’s what Bronx Bound Books is for. “I can’t open up a bookstore on every comer, but I can probably pop up on tons of different comers,” she said. Thanks to Latanya and her Bronx Bound Books, the town is becoming a heaven for book lovers day by day. I’m sure that the little bookstore will continue to develop quickly! 1.How did Latanga DeVoughn respond to the shutdown of bookstores? A.She took over and reopened them soon. B.She established her own special bookstore. C.She opened bookstores on every block. D.She called on neighbors to open a new one. 2.What does the mention of James Baldwin and Alice Walker show in paragraph 3? A.Latanya cares for individual readers’ needs. B.All readers can appreciate Black authors. C.Latanya provided books with various characters. D.Bronx Bound Books has unlimited room. 3.Why is Bronx Bound Books open? A.To promote the latest books in the neighborhood. B.To raise funds to realize Latanya DeVaughn’s dream. C.To make reading accessible to people in the neighborhood. D.To spread her bookstores to every comer across the world. 4.What does the author think of Bronx Bound Books? A.Alarming. B.Affordable. C.Creative. D.Promising. 阅读B-2(巩固)[27689724] People say they prefer a short story written by a human over one composed by AI, yet most still devote the same amount of time and money to read both stories regardless of whether it is (标记) labeled as AI-generated. That was the main finding of a recent study to test whether this preference for humans over AI in creative works actually translates into consumer behavior. To investigate, we asked ChatGPT 4 to create a short story in the style of the popular fiction author Jason Brown. We recruited over 650 participants, offering each $3.50 to read and assess the AI-written story. Importantly, half of the participants were told it was AI-written, while the other half were made to think it was the work of Jason Brown. After reading the first half of the AI-written story, participants were asked to rate the quality of the work along various dimensions, such as whether they found it predictable, emotionally engaging and so on. We also measured participants’ willingness to pay in order to read to the end of the story in two ways: how much money and how much time they’d agree to spend reading some text we gave them. So, were there differences between the two groups? The group that knew the story was AI-written judged it more negatively. However, participants were ready to spend the same amount of money and time to finish reading the story whether or not it was labeled as AI. Participants also did not spend less time actually reading the AI-labeled story. When asked afterward, almost 40% of participants said they would have paid less if the same story was written by AI, 7/58highlighting that many are not aware of the difference between their subjective (主观的) judgement and actual choices. Attitudes toward AI are still forming. Future research could investigate whether there will be a resistance (抵制) against AI-generated creative works. A related question is whether the market will segment, where some consumers will be willing to pay more based on the process of creation, while others may be interested only in the product. 1.What did the study focus on? A.The differences between human and AI writing styles. B.Consumers’ preference for Jason Brown’s short stories. C.ChatGPT 4’s ability to compose stories favored by humans. D.Effect of people’s love for human-written stories on behavior. 2.What can we infer about the participants from paragraph 4? A.They all thought highly of the AI-written story. B.They spent more time on the human-written story. C.Their subjective judgement didn’t match their choices. D.Their reading habits were affected by their personal likes. 3.What does the underlined word “segment” in paragraph 5 mean? A.Stay unified. B.Divide into parts. C.Expand quickly. Many of the changes that the discipline brings are hugely beneficial, but they often come with potential downsides that demand public debate. Will artificial intelligence take people’s jobs or destroy elections with false news? How fast can we practically achieve a net zero economy? For the crucial public debate that is needed on all this to take place, we must have a scientifically literate population. But there is a divide between the scientifically minded and those who choose not to engage with science. It saddens me that our culture now views science as difficult, which discourages many from taking an interest in it. A British Science Association (BSA) survey recently suggested that only around a third of 14-to-18-year-olds find scientists inspirational or consider the subject to be relevant to their lives. In fact, science is interlinked with every aspect of our existence and people from all walks of life and of all ages should be able to access it easily. The invention of the printing press was crucial to the Enlightenment (启蒙运动) because it popularized knowledge. So, in this increasingly science-centered world, the same attention should be given to popular science writing as is given to other forms of literature. The Royal Society Science Book Prize is the only one in the world to promote popular science writing. Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time, which was shortlisted (把……列入入围名单) for the prize in 1989 was written for readers who had little knowledge of physics and has since become a universally recognized text on the universe. Popularizing science has never been more important. There are so many scientific stories to be told that can help 8/58us better understand ourselves. What was your favorite flavor? Today let’s talk about ice cream. While many people think of ice cream as a modern Western invention, it actually existed (存在) as early as the Tang Dynasty. Back then, it wasn’t called ice cream, though. Instead, it was known as “su shan” or “su he shan”. “Su” was a milk product which is similar to cream or butter. It is believed to have been introduced to central China by nomads (游牧民族) from the north. “Su” was not only tasty but also nutritious (营养丰富的). According to some historical records, “su shan” was often made by women. They would heat “su” until it melted and then carefully pour it onto a plate, shaping it into the form of a mountain or coral reef (珊瑚礁). Afterwards, they would freeze it in an icebox. Sometimes, sugar was sprinkled on top. The dessert might also be decorated with some flowers and leaves to make it look more attractive. In the poem Ode to Su He Shan, the poet in the Tang Dynasty Wang Lingran described how people enjoyed “su shan”. He wrote, “it disappears as soon as it touches your teeth.” In The Noble Lady (《仕女图》), a famous fresco (湿 壁画) found in the tomb of Crown Prince Zhanghuai, two out of the six ladies are holding “su shan”. At first, researchers thought they were holding potted plants. Upon closer examination, they concluded that it was something more like today’s ice cream, with flowers on top. “Su shan” was a popular dish during the Tang and Song dynasties. However, only wealthy people and royalty (王室成员) could afford large iceboxes to prepare this summer treat. Luckily, today, we can all enjoy ice cream whenever we want! 1.According to the text, what was “su” made from? Have you ever wondered why people from different parts of the world eat different types of food? Do you ever ask yourself why certain foods or cuisine traditions are so important to your culture? There is more of a connection between food and culture than you may think. On a personal level, we grow up eating the food of our cultures. It becomes a part of who each of us is. Many of us connect food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it ties us to our families, holding a special and personal value for us. When I was sick as a kid, my mother would cook soup and bring it to bed for me. The smell and taste of the soup became something very familiar to me. Now, whenever I feel tired or stressed, I feel hungry for that soup. On a larger scale, traditional cuisine (菜肴) is passed down from one generation to the next. It also serves as an expression of cultural identity. Immigrants bring the food of their countries with them wherever they go and cooking traditional food is a way of preserving their culture when they move to new places. In China, harmony is a vital quality in almost every aspect of life. This is reflected in Chinese cuisine, where almost every flavor (味道) is used in a balanced way creating delicious dishes with flavors that go well together. The cuisine of the United States also reflects its history. The European colonization (殖民) of the Americas brought European ingredients (食材) and cooking styles to the U.S. As the world becomes more globalized, it is easier to get cuisines from different cultures. We should keep our traditions through our culture’s food but we should also become more informed about other cultures by trying their foods. 1.What does the author want to express in Paragraph 1? A.Traditions on culture. B.Difficulties in cooking food. C.Concerns about food and culture. D.Connections between food and culture. 2.Why does the author feel hungry for the soup his mother cooked? A.He feels terribly homesick. B.It is nutritious and inviting. C.He is too weak to feed himself. D.It has become a comfort food for him. 3.What does the author say about Chinese cuisine? A.It has an unbalanced flavor. B.It features unnecessary decoration. 11/58C.It reflects Chinese people’s values. D.It is closely related to Chinese architecture. 4.What can be the suitable title for the text? Now some tea bags have joined the list. In a 2024 study, scientists found that brewing (冲泡) tea with a tea bag made from the plastic polypropylene (聚丙烯) released about 1.2 billion small pieces of plastic per milliliter of tea. Tea bags are made from various types of materials, including paper, flexible plastics and a new kind of material called biodegradable plastics. Tea bags made from paper will theoretically shed fewer microplastics when compared with plastic versions, said Hailey E. Hampson, a postdoctoral fellow who studies microplastics. But it’s not always easy to figure out what your tea bag was made from. Of the 12 tea companies we contacted for this article, six responded. They all said that their tea bags were free of microplastics, mainly because they were made from paper or other plant-based materials. However, even paper tea bags aren’t guaranteed to be plastic-free, Dr. Hampson said. Some may be sealed (密封) with flexible plastics like polypropylene, or have a plastic coating on the string. Microplastics can enter our blood and tissues from the food we eat and the air we breathe. But figuring out if those exposures harm health has been challenging. Scientists have found potential links between microplastic exposures and health conditions like cardiovascular (心血管的) disease and cancer. But these studies have limitations, and it’s unclear if the microplastics themselves caused these health effects. Dr. Hampson said, briefly putting your tea bag in room temperature water, then discarding that water before brewing, can help reduce the microplastics in your tea. Placing the bag under running water might help remove some plastics, too. Just be aware that this method might extract some of the flavor from your tea. What’s more, choose the right tea. Drinking loose-leaf tea is probably the best way to limit your exposure to microplastics. 1.How does the author introduce the topic? A.By giving examples. B.By raising questions. C.By quoting an expert. D.By defining a concept. 2.Why can’t we guarantee paper tea bags are plastic-free? A.Because paper itself contains plastics. B.Because their strings might be plastic-coated. C.Because they are sealed by plant-based materials. D.Because heat from brewing releases microplastics. 3.What can be inferred from paragraph 4? A.Microplastics can be found everywhere. B.Microplastics’ harm is impossible to confirm. C.Breathing is the main way microplastics enter the body. D.Links between health and microplastics remain uncertain. 4.Which might be the primary choice of reducing microplastics? A.Drinking loose-leaf tea. B.Selecting expensive tea. 12/58C.Washing tea bags thoroughly. However, does building better relationships with others have to involve the risk of getting hurt? One popular theory is the hedgehog’s dilemma, also called the porcupine’s dilemma. It has its roots in the 13/58thinking of German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, who proposed that, even with the best of intentions, humans harm each other when they attempt to have intimate and friendly relationships. It goes like this. One cold winter night, a group of porcupines gathered to keep warm, but they hurt each other with their quills, forcing them to move apart. When feeling cold, they moved closer, only to be hurt again. Repeatedly, they eventually found the ideal distance. So the theory ends with the advice: Keep your distance. However, keeping distance is not enough. If you’ve been hurt before, it might be that your quills are up, and you’ve fallen into defence(防御) mode. Hilary, a psychologist, points to some examples of common defence mode such as going blank and regarding the present reaction as criticism. Most of these defensive reactions originate from early experiences of hurt. “In treatments, if people can be helped to recognize the defences by tracking back through the personal experiences, they can be encouraged to be understanding. Then they, have a chance to change and not just repeat old behaviors,” Hilary suggests. “Defences need to be respected and not knocked down in one step. Removing one brick at a time from the wall is very important.” Unlike hedgehogs, humans don’t come with the quills built in. So, when we learn to lower our defences for safe, loving people, there’s a chance we actually can have it all. 1.Why does the author raise a question in the first paragraph? A.To give examples. B.To lead to a story. C.To inspire reflection. D.To express concern. 2.What does the underlined word “intimate” in paragraph 2 mean? A.Permanent. B.Detailed. C.Independent. D.Close. 3.What does Hilary advise people to do when bringing down defences? A.Address problems with patience. B.Avoid discussing past experiences. C.Immediately remove self-protection. Task conflict happens when people have different ideas of what needs to be done. It points to potential differences in opinion about everything you can imagine that is essential for a group: mission, priorities of tasks, decision-making mechanisms, etc. Task conflict is not a problem when people realize the source of the conflict is the task and not the people. Community members must resolve tension with everyone’s voice being heard and acknowledged. Conflict resolution, of course, takes empathy (共情) and emotional intelligence. However, this does not mean that the solution must include everyone’s opinion. After the conversation, everyone should feel that they had a fair chance to express their opinion and that it was taken seriously by others. Conflict between people is tricky because it’s attacking a person’s self-worth. Often this form of relationship 14/58conflict is set off when two conditions are met: Firstly, people have different values or are holding different assumptions, and secondly, neither party can see beyond their own prejudices. In short, everyone involved believes that they are right and is unwilling to change their position. With relationship conflict, the person is perceived (视为) to be the problem and is attacked by others. Each party assumes that most people are on their side and that the other person is acting out of self-interest. This eventually leads to people disagreeing with each other, not for the task’s sake but to prove the other person is wrong. Sometimes conflict originates from a task, People might prefer different tools or different approaches. If this initial dispute (争论) is ignored or not dealt with appropriately, the relatively easy task conflict turns into a more complex relationship conflict. A lot of what happens when relationship conflict plays out is reactive and not reflective. People stop thinking and act without considering the consequences. Remember that every culture has its own way of handling conflict. Some people consider it dishonest if a dispute is not addressed openly while in other cultures, such a discussion will not be acceptable. 1.How can task conflict be managed effectively? A.By discussing personal feelings openly. B.By listening to different views respectfully. C.By gathering as many opinions as possible. D.By keeping discussions brief and to the point. 2.What do we know about relationship conflict? A.It focuses on task-related difference. B.It involves personal criticism. C.It results in power struggles. D.It prioritizes logic over empathy. 3.What does the author try to stress in the last paragraph? A.Disagreement is unavoidable. B.Disputes should be addressed timely. A.Resolving Group Conflict B.Understanding Different Views C.Unpacking Community Tension D.Recognizing the Source of Conflict 阅读D-3(提升)[27765960] The “hedgehog (刺猬) dilemma” is a famous metaphor from German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. In his 1851 book, he described how humans struggle with relationships through a story about hedgehogs. His advice was simple: keep your distance. This sad story became widely discussed. Sigmund Freud and modern scientists studied this idea. In 2015, an award-winning short film called Henry retold this story. How does this apply to real life? Most people remember being hurt by close relationships – broken friendships, family conflicts, or romantic betrayals. Since these connections matter deeply, their damage hurts more. Should we stop trusting others? Schopenhauer said yes, but science would say otherwise. A study in PLOS Medicine reviewing 148 studies with over 300,000 people found those with strong social connections live 50% longer. The National Institute on Aging warns that loneliness harms health as much as smoking 15 cigarettes daily — making Schopenhauer’s advice concerning. 15/58When hurt repeatedly, people often fall into defense mode. Relationship expert Hilary Sanders explains common defense behaviors: going silent during arguments, seeing normal comments as criticism, or overreacting to small issues. These reactions often start in childhood. If parents often criticized or classmates bullied someone, they might develop habits like pretending not to care or getting angry easily. While these helped survive childhood pain, they cause problems in adult relationships when used unconsciously. The good news is people can change. Through therapy, many learn to recognize their defense patterns and understand their origins. Couples can improve relationships by learning each other’s emotional triggers and responding thoughtfully instead of arguing. However, Sanders warns that defenses shouldn’t be removed suddenly — it’s like taking down a wall brick by brick. Although Schopenhauer focused on the pain of closeness, the hedgehog story actually shows our deep need for connection. Unlike real hedgehogs, humans aren’t born with physical spines. By carefully lowering our defenses around trustworthy people, we might truly enjoy both warmth and safety in relationships. 1.Why does the author mention the hedgehog dilemma in paragraph 1? A.To emphasize its importance. B.To support Schopenhauer’s advice. C.To recommend Schopenhauer’s book. D.To introduce the theme of relationship. 2.What is Schopenhauer’s core solution to the “hedgehog dilemma”? A.Avoid closeness. B.Seek therapy. C.Ignore pain. D.Build walls. 3.What major evidence goes against Schopenhauer’s advice? A.Defense behavior of people. B.Freud’s studies. C.Longevity from social ties. D.Henry’s short film. 4.What does Sanders say about close connection? A.Couples should learn to defend it thoughtfully. B.Humans can benefit from it unconsciously. C.It can help children relieve childhood pain. Some people believe money is just a tool for buying material things, but this view is far from comprehensive. 1 Consider the stories of great minds in history. Madame Curie, for example, turned down a large sum of money that came with her Nobel Prize. Instead of using it for personal comfort, she invested all her funds in further scientific research. 2 This is because the discoveries she made later helped save millions of lives, a value no amount of immediate pleasure could match. 3 Think about a community park. Many people may wonder why the local government spends money building and maintaining it instead of using the funds elsewhere. But the park is more than just green space. It provides a place for children to play, for the elderly to exercise, and for neighbors to communicate. 4 In the long run, this kind of investment in public well-being brings far more value than short-term material gains. However, it’s important to remember that the way we use money reflects our values. Some people chase after luxury goods, believing that owning them shows success. 5 Whether it’s a scientist devoting funds to research or an ordinary person donating to a community project, the key is to let money serve a purpose beyond immediate satisfaction. In this way, money truly realizes its greatest value. A.Similar logic applies to our daily lives, even in small matters. If you need water, you turn on the tap. 1 For many people, these facilities are the basics of civilized society and the idea of living without them seems risky. Yet for a growing number of people, the idea of living off grid — without electricity, water or sewage (污水) — is an increasingly attractive lifestyle. Off-gridders do not have to give up electricity or a modern lifestyle — some choose to, but most use small hydroelectric (水电的) power systems, solar panels or windmills to generate enough power for their needs. Heating and cooking needs are met by solar energy or wood burning systems, and toilet facilities range from non-water toilets to outside compost (堆肥) toilets. 2 It ranges from traditional yurts (a type of tent) to luxury house with high- speed internet and central heating. Whether they live in simple homes or luxury houses, what they all have in common is that their lifestyles do not create any pollution or carbon emissions — the ultimate goal for off-gridders. Around 100,000 people are thought to be living off grid in the UK now. 3 They grow their own food, home-school their children and provide their own medical care. They are people who have been priced out of the housing market or who have grown disillusioned with what modern society can offer and who decides that an 18/58alternative lifestyle isn’t a fantasy, but an available option. 4 Off-grid houses are far cheaper to build than ordinary homes since they don’t need to be connected to the electricity or water supplies and even road access is not necessary. Materials tend to be cheaper, too. Popular options include straw or old tyres and cement. Surprisingly, the biggest problem off-gridders face is not building their homes or becoming self-sufficient but getting permission to build. Rural areas away from town are the perfect choice but these are often protected by law from construction of any kind or have building restrictions. There are now several websites dedicated to land-sharing so that the costs of buying land can be shared, and there are increasing numbers of off-grid communities. 5 Off- gridding could soon be common all over Europe and America. A.They live in a huge variety of types of accommodation. B.After you use the toilet, you flush it and the waste disappears. C.Living off-grid still has a long way to go before it becomes a mainstream way of living. D.Apart from living an alternative lifestyle, cost is a big factor in choosing to live off-grid. E.This shift from individual to group off-gridding reflects the fact that the trend is growing noticeably. At first, I felt like the world had come to an end. You see, work wasn’t just a way to earn money for me — it was a big part of who I was. I’d built so much of my identity around it. I’ve always had a strong work principle. Work was always my top priority. No matter what happened, I put it first. I felt responsible for every task, big or small. Guilt weighed on me like a heavy bag — just like those screenshots on your phone that you never sort out but can’t bear to remove. My life was a crazy race: I had to take care of my young child, manage the house, keep up with social responsibilities, stay away from foods full of fat, and make sure I walked 10,000 steps every day. On top of all that, I had to answer Teams’ messages faster than a teenager replying to TikTok comments. It was so tiring — I could barely catch my breath. I often skipped dinners just to finish my tasks. I truly loved my work and my team. Doing things well made me proud. Every small success gave me a little rush of dopamine (多巴胺), which made this busy cycle feel addictive. I treated my stress like a fitness tracker: the higher the stress “number”, the more I thought I was doing a good job. Then one morning, everything changed. I was let go — all because of provincial budget (预算) cuts. It happened so suddenly, I couldn’t believe it. Luckily, my partner was very supportive. I didn’t have to rush to find a new job right away. Even though I had the chance to take it easy for a few months, I just couldn’t relax. I didn’t know what to do with myself. Out of habit, I still woke up at 6 a.m. every day. When I tried to relax, I felt guilty. I missed that feeling of being needed by others. 注意: 26/581. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 One day, when I picked up my daughter, she asked me to visit a park. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ The bond I felt with my daughter in the park made me relaxed. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ 67-2(巩固)[28980271] 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短 文。 I’d loved hip-hop dancing since my childhood. Dance was my favorite class, and I looked forward to going every day. And this year, my senior year, was going to be the best dance class yet. As I was walking excitedly over to the first day of dance class, I passed one of my fellow dancers from the previous year. “Sarah, have you heard?” “Heard what?” “We have a new dance teacher. Her name is Ms. Barton, and she is strictly ballet.” Ballet? Well, this ought to be interesting. I had never taken ballet in my life. I’ll admit, I was a bit nervous, but also up for the challenge. When I entered the classroom, I changed into hip-hop-styled clothing that I had in my backpack. It would have to do for now. We all stood at the barre (把杆) as Ms. Barton ran us through basic ballet steps. She was just how I had imagined a ballet teacher would be: excellent posture with a strict attitude. “Grand plié (屈膝),” demanded Ms. Barton. Along with my fellow classmates, I began my grand plié. Ms. Barton gave me a stare. “What is your name?” she asked. “Sarah. Sarah Brunner;” I responded with a smile. “Class, I would like everyone to watch Miss Sarah do a grand plié.” She gestured for me to continue. I slowly got into position and then performed a grand plié. Complete silence. All eyes were on me. “Now, class, this is an example of what not to do,” Ms. Barton said seriously. Red face. A wave of pure embarrassment came over me. However, I participated in the rest of the class to the best of my abilities. My pride wouldn’t allow me to quit. I persisted day by day, week by week, and Ms. Barton seemed to tolerate my ballet well enough to not make every dance class dreadful. Then came our final production, a four-day show performed at our school theater. We students had to choose a single dance piece from the five given options. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 27/582.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 Ms. Barton was shocked that I chose to be in her ballet piece. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ “I will award one student,” Ms. Barton announced at the end of the four-day show. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ 67-3(提升)[28946527] 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短 文。 Olivia, a senior high-school student, had spent weeks working on her solar-powered robot for the school’s Science Festival. It was her first time joining the festival, and she’d put extra effort into the robot — even adding a small camera to let it “explore” and send back photos. She planned to show it to her engineer mom, who’d been busy with work and hadn’t seen her progress yet. Three days before the festival, disaster struck. Olivia was testing the robot on the classroom floor when her classmate accidentally knocked over a bookcase. A heavy textbook fell and hit the robot’s arm, breaking the solar panel connection and bending its metal frame. Olivia picked it up, her hands trembling — all her hard work seemed ruined. She sat alone in the classroom after school, trying to fix it but only making the wires more tangled. The next morning, Olivia dragged the broken robot to school, hiding it in her locker. She didn’t want anyone to see her failure, especially not Noah — a quiet classmate who’d built a winning robot last year. Noah often stayed after school to help others with their science projects, but Olivia was too proud to ask for help. During lunch, Olivia went to the science lab to check the robot again. Just as she sighed in frustration, Noah walked in with his notebook. He noticed the broken robot and stopped. “Is that your Science Festival project?” he asked softly. Olivia nodded, her voice small. “The solar panel’s broken, and I can’t fix the wires.” Noah knelt down to look at the robot. He pointed to the tangled wires and said, “I’ve fixed similar connections before. If you have extra parts, we might be able to repair it.” Olivia’s eyes lit up — she’d kept spare solar panels at home. “I do!” she said. Noah smiled. “Meet me here after school. I’ll bring my tools.” 注意: 1.所续写的短文词数应为150左右; 2.续写的部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 3.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: After school, Olivia arrived at the science lab with her spare parts, and Noah was already there with a toolbox. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ 28/58________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Two hours later, the robot finally started working again. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ 29/58
