November 23 was the happiest day of last winter for Wang Xiaolong. On that day, he spotted nearly 400
white cranes (鹤) in his patrol (巡逻) area near Poyang Lake.
“I was thrilled. It was the largest number of migratory birds I had seen in months,” Wang said.
Wang has been a patrol officer at the Wucheng protection and administration station of the Poyang Lake
National Nature Reserve Bureau for 38 years. Each morning, around 5 am, he rises early, has a simple breakfast,
and sets off from the protection station.
“Protecting the birds of Poyang Lake is my duty. This work has become a significant part of my life and
holds the utmost importance to me. By protecting nature’s spirits, I have found my life’s purpose,” Wang said.
Wang fondly recalls rescuing a young white crane 20 years ago on a winter’s day. He spotted the injured
young crane during his patrol and brought it back to the protection station, where he fed it small fish and shrimp
and took it to the bird hospital for treatment.
“I remember when we went to the hospital; I walked in front, and the young crane followed me. We entered
the hospital together. After about a month, its injury healed, and I decided to release it back into the wild,” he said.
“That day left a deep impression on me. The little white crane circled above my head for a long time before flying
away. It felt like it recognized me and was reluctant to leave.”
Over the decades, Wang has rescued and released over 300 birds and participated in more than 180 projects
involving the protection of migratory birds. He has received numerous honors, including being named “Jiangxi’s
most beautiful environmentalist”.

When you picture a zoo, what do you see? A lone bear in a concrete cage, pacing aimlessly in front of
tourists? Or a group of volunteers, trying desperately to clean the body of the giant panda? The role of zoos is
unclear at first thought. On the one hand, funding from zoos comes from visitors and donors, so to attract the
public, zoos must put on a good show. On the other hand, there is a growing cry to protect the animal kingdom
from conservation-concerned individuals. That puts zoos in a dilemma.
London Zoo, which opened to members in 1828 as the first scientific zoo, opened its doors to the public 19
years later as it was not receiving sufficient funding. However, when the environmental movement was born in the
late 20th Century, London Zoo began to change its focus. In the same year when the IUCN Red List was first
published, London Zoo worked with Phoenix Zoo on a cooperative programme to boost Arabian oryx (大羚羊)
numbers. London Zoo soon became the model on how to run a zoo that can satisfy both its visitors and its
inhabitants.
Some zoos did not follow suit. The reputation of SeaWorld declined, following the documentary Blackfish,
an exposure on SeaWorld’s poor treatment of their killer whales. It is clear from their website that sea creatures’
wellbeing and conservation are not SeaWorld’s priority. They are happy to advertise their sea lion shows and
penguin petting experiences, but their conservation “mission” is tucked neatly into a dusty corner of the website.
Knowing that places such as SeaWorld may not provide the best care for their animals, we continue to give them
our money.
However, we should not stop visiting zoos. Zoos are essential to our education. Zoos are outdoors,
soul-lifting, and in need of footfall to remain open and serving the animal kingdom. So research zoos before you
visit them. Only pay for tickets to zoos that commit to conservation, aim to educate rather than entertain and have
high animal welfare standards. Do not tolerate any less. Celebrate zoos which do it right.
28.What leads to the dilemma in paragraph 1?
A.The protest from volunteers. B.The competition among zoos.
C.The pressure from funding and conservation. D.The conflict between visitors and zoo keepers.
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页29.Why is London Zoo mentioned?
A.To give an example. B.To introduce an opinion.
C.To make a prediction. D.To recommend a destination.
30.What does the underlined word “tucked” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Written. B.Divided. C.Hidden. D.Combined.
31.What does the author suggest visitors do in the last paragraph?
A.Celebrate the animal shows. B.Fund the poorly-managed zoos.
C.Recognize zoos devoted to protection. D.Increase their visits to different zoos.

Forget to bring your charger? What if your clothing could generate electricity from the heat your body
naturally produces? This futuristic concept is becoming a reality.
Scientists at Chalmers University and Linköping University in Sweden have developed a new yarn (纱线)
that can generate electricity from body heat, using a polymer coating (聚合物涂层) applied to ordinary silk yarn.
The principle is the thermoelectric effect (热电效应), where temperature differences between the human body and
its surrounding environment create electrical energy. As the human body produces constant heat, the warmer side
of the thermoelectric material transfers electrons to the colder side, generating an electrical current.
“The polymers that we use are bendable, lightweight and easy to use in both liquid and solid form. They are
also harmless,” says study first author Mariavittoria Craighero. Unlike previous attempts at creating
thermoelectric textiles, this breakthrough solves a long-standing problem: the lack of air-stable polymers.
“The new type of polymer has outstanding performance stability in contact with air while at the same time
having a very good ability to conduct electricity. By using polymers, we don't need any rare earth metals, which
are common in electronics,” explains Craighero.
The new thermoelectric yarn could power sensors in clothing to monitor vital signs like heart rate and body
temperature without needing battery changes or recharging. Beyond healthcare, it could enable lowpower
functions in smart clothing, such as environmental sensing and location tracking. As power conversion efficiency
improves, more power-demanding features can be supported.
While the new polymers mark a major step forward in thermoelectric textiles, it's important to note that the
temperature differences in lab tests are much higher than those typically experienced in everyday clothing. As a
result, real-world performance may be lower. Moreover, the yarn generates only 0. 67 microwatts at a 70-degree
temperature difference, which is far too little to charge devices like smartphones. The manufacturing process is
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页also time-consuming, requiring four days of manual work to create one piece, making it impractical for large-scale
commercial production.
32.How does the new approach generate electricity?
A.By recycling the flow of air.
B.By absorbing the energy of sunlight.
C.By heating the surrounding environment.
D.By making use of temperature differences.
33.What advantage do the new polymers have over previous materials?
A.Lower costs. B.Greater safety. C.Higher stability. D.Less weight.
34.What can we learn about the new yarn from paragraph 5?
A.It needs to be charged regularly.
B.It has broad application prospects.
C.It is designed for medical treatment.
D.It will be launched into the market soon.
35.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The limitations of putting the polymers into practical use.
B.The standard of producing the new textile.
C.The potential of the polymers in powering devices.
D.The follow-up test plan of scientists.
第二节(共 5 小题, 每小题 2. 5 分, 共 12. 5 分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
First of all, we need to understand that handling interpersonal relationships is not as simple as treating others
to meals or giving gifts. In today’s era, everyone seems to carry an invisible list of treating and gifting, from
dinner parties to wedding banquets, from Mid-Autumn mooncakes to Spring Festival red envelopes, which all
seem to be tightly wrapped in the “human relationship culture”. 36
The Mehrabian Principle
Psychologist Albert Mehrabian put forward a very interesting formula, which reveals the importance of the
three major elements in communication: the content of words accounts for only 7%, the tone of voice accounts for
38%, and a high 55% of the information actually comes from non-verbal body language. 37
Whether your eyes are wandering or firm when you speak, whether your gestures are fluttering or quiet, these
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页subtle details that are easily ignored are the truth of interpersonal communication.
Non-verbal Communication
From the perspective of language psychology, a person’s speaking intonation, pitch, and speed will affect
others’ understanding of his intentions. At the beginning of Martin Luther King’s speech, his tone was calm and
low, with analysis and contemplation, telling the facts of racial inequality and gradually introducing hope.
38 Finally, it reached the peak in “Freedom forever”. The reason why this speech moved the audience was
not only relying on the words, but also on the passion and hope conveyed by the tone.
Emotional Capital
The “emotional capital” in sociology can help us understand the role of the Mehrabian Principle in
interpersonal relationships. 39 Treating others to meals can accumulate short-term goodwill, but
only long-term emotional investment can make interpersonal relationships as stable as bank deposits and play a
role at critical moments.
Facial Expression Management
As the saying goes, “You don’t hit a person who smiles at you”. A sincere smile can instantly shorten the
distance between people. 40 A face that often wears a smile will make people feel that you are
friendly and approachable, and they are willing to have in-depth communication with you.
A.However, in fact, the key to interpersonal communication does not lie in material things, but in the emotional
transmission during communication.
B.When he said “I have a dream”, his tone rose, full of passion and expectation, and his voice became more
powerful and rhythmic.
C.This means that non-verbal signals are far more influential than the words themselves in communication.
D.Emotional capital is a relational asset accumulated through emotional interaction, which creates trust in
long-term relationships.
E.Whether it’s a workplace meeting or a social gathering, a smile is always the best icebreaker.
F.Many people believe that material gifts are the most direct way to maintain relationships.
G.It is difficult to build trust with others if you always show a cold or unfriendly expression.

Taihu Lake, China’s third-largest freshwater lake, has reached its best water quality in 30 years, 56
reflects China’s efforts in environmental protection alongside economic growth. Despite a population increase of
nearly 7 million and a 3.6-fold economic expansion since 2007, the 57 (lake) water quality has
improved from Grade V to Ⅲ.
Restoring large lakes that suffer from eutrophication (富营养化) is 58 global challenge, but the
experience of Taihu Lake has proved that it is possible. In the past two decades, around 55 million cubic meters of
silt (淤泥) 59 (remove). In 2024, the intelligent dredging (清淤) ship Taihu Star began operation,
60 (process) up to 5,000 cubic meters daily.
Jiangsu has carried out a range of pollution control measures. It has shut down or restructured nearly
60,000 polluting factories. 190 wetland conservation areas have been established. In September 2024, an
intelligent online platform was launched 61 (monitor) water quality.
Last summer, the blue-green algae growth area and the density dropped 62 (significant). The
environmental measures have driven industrial transformation. In 2024, high-tech industries accounted 63

Every child hopes for gifts for Christmas. But it seemed that my family didn’t have enough money to buy
me the bike that I’d wanted for Christmas. After supper was over on Christmas eve, I sat at the table, feeling sorry
for myself.
It was cold outside. Soon Dad came back. “Come on, Eric,” he said. “Put on warm clothes. It’s cold out
tonight.” I was really upset then. Not only was I not getting the bike for Christmas, but now Dad was dragging me
out in the cold. But anyway, I got up and followed him.
Outside, in front of the house, our old truck was ready. The cold was already biting at me. Dad went into
the woodshed (柴房) and came out with an armload of wood. “Dad,” I asked, “what are you doing?” He said, “I
passed by Ms. Black’s house today. She is a single mother of three kids. Her eldest son, 8-year-old Robert, was
out digging around in the woodpile trying to find a few chips. He was just wearing an old thin shirt, trembling
with cold. They’re out of wood, Eric.” That was all he said and then he turned and went back into the room for a
big ham. He handed them to me and told me to put them in the truck and wait. When he returned, he was carrying
a bag of something in his hand. “What’s in the bag?” I asked. “Coats. They’re out of warm clothes. I got the
children a little candy too. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little candy.”
We drove two miles to Ms. Black’s house. We stopped at the gate and unloaded the wood, then we took the
other things to the door. Ms. Black opened the door and let us in. The room felt cold. Such a small fire could
hardly give off any heat at all. So Dad asked me to add more wood to the fire.
