Growing up, Maitri Wadher, a left-hander, has struggled to cope in a world made for
right-handed people. From school desks to spiral notebooks that stop the natural flow of
writing, Maitri has faced tough challenges from a young age. “My mother used to tie my left
hand and make me eat with my right until a doctor warned that this could significantly affect
my growth and confidence,” Maitri says.
This childhood experience had gnawed (折磨) at the back of her mind, pushing her to do
something to ease the lives of fellow left-handers. In September 2018, she started The Left
Out Store, which makes everyday products ranging from left-handed writing tools and
scissors to kitchen tools for left-handed people.
Starting The Left Out Store wasn’t in the cards for Maitri for a very long time. The idea
for The Left Out Store came to Maitri in just 20 minutes during a festival at St. Joseph’s
Institute of Management, where she was a post-graduate student. She presented the rough
idea to judges who later became sponsors, and they enthusiastically supported it. This
encouragement gave her the push to make it a market research project to test the waters andexplore the potential market.
Initially, Maitri faced a few hiccups. It took her quite some time to find vendors (小贩)
and make them understand how to make the products. With everything in place, Maitri went
through a tough time reaching customers. The first time she made a proper sale was at an
exhibition at Lalit Ashok. “People were surprised at first, but gradually more left-handed
people began approaching me, and said they relate to my struggles.” Since then, she has been
regularly marketing her products at exhibitions, and keeps The Left Out Store active on social
media.
24.What challenge did Maitri face as a left-hander while growing up?
A.Unfair judgement. B.Lack of parents’ love.
C.Limited access to education. D.Struggle with school tools.

A.By seeking student sponsors. B.By conducting market research.
C.By expanding the potential market. D.By carrying out her long-thought plan.
26.What does the underlined word “hiccups” probably mean?
A.Barriers. B.Threats C.Complaints. D.Oppositions.
27.What might be a suitable title for the passage?
A.A Left-Hander’s Struggles B.Maitri’s Marketing Strategies
C.Maitri: A Social Media Celebrity D.The Left Out Store: Maitri’s Journey

The Yellow River is the cradle of China’s civilization. And flood control and prevention
have always been key to the well-being of the people living along it. Now, scientists can
better work on these issues by giving the river a digital twin.
The digital twin of the Yellow River uses various technologies, including big data,
artificial intelligence, and the internet of things. Devices (设备) set up along the river collect
and transmit information to the center. Based on the information, a 3D model of the river is
presented on the computer screen. It’s like the Yellow River has a twin that reflects its real
conditions.
One big breakthrough in the river’s digital governance ( 治理) is “smart stones”.
According to Wang Qin, a lead researcher at the Information Center of Yellow River Henan
Bureau, a smart stone is a water-proof stone-shaped device with chips, a battery, and a signal
transmitter. They are buried in important dike (堤坝) locations to record and report the
movement of dike stones. “Upon feeling movement of the dike stones, the smart stone sendsan alarm to the center for quick response,” Wang said.
“In the past, researchers had to learn the conditions of the dike on the spot by
themselves, putting their lives at risk,” said Zhao Xiao from the bureau. “Now the smart
stones can do this for us, more safely, quickly, and accurately.”
And in the sky, drones (无人机) are flying. On the routes designed by engineers, the
drones become expert patrollers (巡逻员) of the river, looking at its dikes and flood
prevention projects. According to Shen Lin from the Yellow River Conservancy Commission,
thanks to the drones, researchers at the command center can get first-hand photos and
information. “Researchers then update the 3D model according to the changes the drones
reported. The newly updated model helps us test our floodwater release plans in case we ever
need to batten down the hatches (未雨绸缪), ”said Shen.
Under the water and up in the sky, intelligence systems are helping to protect the Yellow
River Basin on all fronts. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, in the future, we can
expect to see the construction of an even more comprehensive digital system for this
important river.
28.What is the main purpose of creating a digital twin of the Yellow River?
A.To conduct historical research.
B.To create a virtual tourist attraction.
C.To raise public awareness of river protection.
D.To improve flood control and prevention efforts.
29.How do the smart stones contribute to the river’s digital governance?
A.They record water quality.
B.They improve the river’s beauty.
C.They monitor and report dike movements.
D.They serve as markers for important locations.
30.What is one of the functions of drones in the digital governance of the Yellow River?
A.Entertaining tourists. B.Collecting information on dike
conditions.
C.Patrolling and take wildlife photos. D.Testing water quality.
31.What does the under lined word “comprehensive” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Complete. B.Basic. C.Beautiful. D.Natural.

“Woman reading book, under a night sky, dreamy atmosphere,” I type into Deep DreamGenerator’s Text 2 Dream feature. In less than a minute, an image is returned tome showing
what I’ve described.
Welcome to the world of AI image generation, where you can create what on the surface
looks like top-rank artwork using just a few text prompts (提示). But closer examination
shows oddities. The face of the woman in my image has very odd features, and appears to be
holding multiple books. And, while there’s an initial thrill at seeing an image appear, there’s
no creative satisfaction.
AI image generation could impact everything from film to graphic novels and more.
Children’s illustrators were quick to raise concerns about the technology. They say AI-
generated art is the exact opposite of what art is believed to be. Fundamentally, art is all about
translating something that you feel internally into something that exists externally. Whatever
form it takes, true art is about the creative process much more than it’s about the final piece.
And simply pressing a button to generate an image is not a creative process.
Beyond creativity, there are deeper issues. To create images from prompts, AI generators
rely on databases of already existing art and text. This could lead to the creation of images
that are intentionally meant to imitate the style of other artists, without their agreement. There
is an argument that AI generators work no differently to humans when it comes to being
influenced by others’ work, However, a human artist is also adding emotion and nuance (细微
差别) into the mix. AI doesn’t do the same—it can only copy.
The increasing use of AI will also lead to a devaluing of the work of artists. There’s
already a negative prejudice towards the creative industry. People will begin to think that their
“work” is as valid as that created by someone who has spent a career making art. It’s
nonsense, of course. You can use your mobile phone to take a nice picture of your daughters,
but you are no match for professionals.
32.What does the writer think of his image creation?
A.Exciting. B.Appealing C.Unsatisfying. D.Shocking.
33.What do children’s illustrators value most about art?
A.The creating process. B.The final work.
C.Personal feelings. D.External forms.
34.What is Paragraph 4 of the text mainly about?
A.The styles of human artworks and AI ones.
B.Human artists’ influence on AI generators.
C.Different means used in human and AI art creation.D.The drawbacks of drawing from existing art and text.
35.Which of the following best summarizes the last paragraph?
A.Art is the mirror of life.
B.Rome is not built in a day.
C.No man can do two things at once.
D.Jack of all trades, master of none.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两
项为多余选项。
Why was school created? 36 Especially on test days, many students wonder
exactly why they’re being subjected to such terrible and unusual punishment!
If you’re honest with yourself, though, you know what a great place school is. 37
. Sure, tests can be stressful, but think of how boring life would be if you didn’t get to learn
new things and see other people so often!
Schools are not a new invention. You may have seen some old one-room schoolhouses
that have been around for several hundred years or more. 38 .
In fact, education dates back to the very first humans ever to live on Earth. Why? To
survive, every generation has found it necessary to pass on its knowledge, skills, values, and
traditions to the next generation. How can they do this? Education! Each subsequent
generation (后代) must be taught these things.
39 They educated young people within the family unit. Over time, however,
populations grew and societies formed.
Rather than every family being responsible for education, people soon found out that it
would be easier and more efficient to have a small group of adults teach a larger group of
children. 40 .
A.In this way, the idea of school was born.
B.The earliest schools, though, date back thousands of years.
C.At that time, schools focused on reading, writing, and maths.
D.Ancient schools weren’t like the schools we know today, though.
E.We’re sure that’s a question that every student asks from time to time.
F.The earliest human beings didn’t need schools to pass along information.
G.You have fun, learn all kinds of interesting things, and get to spend time with your
friends.第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分)

My son was one of the students who served as a volunteer in different services while in a
high school. Nowadays it is 41 for high schools to have a volunteer service hour
minimum as a part of their graduation 42 .
One day, I asked him why he worked long hours voluntarily every week. He gave me a
reply 43 his years. He said, “Mom, you should not do community service just
because it was assigned and you just need to 44 it in. You should do it because of the
effects it has.” In many ways his opinion is 45 reasonable, and though the service
hour requirement actually does get students to participate in volunteer work in their
communities, does it 46 them to volunteer in the future?
In some cases, no. A study found that when 8th graders in some schools were asked to
accumulate 47 volunteer hours, those same students were no longer doing any
service by their senior year of high school. It 48 that compulsory volunteer hours led
to a “potential loss in long-term volunteering”. 49 , other researchers discovered
that young people were more likely to vote and attend civic life in other ways as a result of
their 50 to community service in high school.
If teens 51 the significance of doing volunteer work and do it with a bit of
enthusiasm, serving others in their communities will bring in a lot of unexpected 52 .
My son’s exposure to a variety of non-profits during his high school years led him to receive
a 53 scholarship for college, where he is now required to complete seventy-five
hours per semester. But to him, this is 54 a requirement; actually he has benefited a

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Hello, hello!” called out a pleasant voice.
Andy Waters looked up and saw his new neighbor, Francis Frame.
“Hello, yourself,” he shouted cheerfully, as he fastened on his roller skates. “Want to go
skating, Francis?”
“I can’t. I lost my roller skates last fall, and mother says she can’t afford to buy me
another pair just now.”
Andy looked at his neighbor’s long legs. They were just the right kind, he thought, to
make a fast skater.
“That’s hard luck, Francis, because if you had some roller-skates, maybe you could be in
our skating relay race (接力赛) next Saturday.”
“Oh! Don’t I wish I had some skates!” cried Francis.
“I have to go for the training now but I can let you use my skates sometime when I am
not using them.” Andy said bye to Francis.
When Andy skated slowly toward the end of the block, he thought about Francis Frame.
Francis hadn’t lived in the block very long, and none of the other boys knew him. So the new
boy was left to himself a great deal, and must often be very lonely.
“Yes,” said Andy to himself, “it certainly is a pity about Francis! I ought to do something
about it.”
As he skated to the vacant lot where they usually trained and raced, he met the captain of
his team, a large boy called Buddy Bowers. “I stopped for a few moments to talk to my new
neighbor,” said Andy. “don’t you think we could use another boy on our team for the race?
That new boy, Francis Frame, I mean?”
“We just can’t do it. The other team wouldn’t let us take on an extra boy.” Buddy
refused.
Soon the training began and Andy practiced very hard, for his heart was set on havinghis team win the race. Still, he couldn’t help knowing that his short legs kept him from being
a fast skater. On the way home, Andy thought of a way to help his team win as well as help
Francis Frame — he could pretend to be sick on the racing day and have Francis take his
place!
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Thinking of this, he raced to the home of his new neighbor.
