When your pet has an emergency, first aid is not a substitute for veterinary(兽医的) treatment. However,
before you are able to get your pet to a veterinarian, knowing some basic first aid can help.
Bite Wounds
Approach the pet carefully to avoid getting bitten.Wear a mask for the animal and then check the wound.Clean
the wound with large amounts of saline(盐水). If these are not available, then regular water may be used.Wrap
large open wounds to keep them clean.
Bleeding
Apply firm, direct pressure over the bleeding area until the bleeding stops.Hold the pressure for at least 10
minutes.Avoid bandages that cut off circulation.
Breathing Stops
Check to see if the animal is choking(窒息) on a foreign object. If an animal is not breathing, place it on a
firm surface with its left side up.Check for a heartbeat. If you hear a heartbeat but not breathing, close the animal's
mouth and breathe directly into its nose—not the mouth—until the chest expands.Repeat 12 to 15 times per minute.
Burns
Wash the burn immediately with large amounts of cool, running water.Apply an ice pack for 15-20
minutes.Do not place an ice pack directly on the skin.Wrap the pack in a light towel or other cover. If the animal has
large quantities of dry chemicals on its skin, brush them off.Water may activate some dry chemicals.
Fractures(骨折)
Symptoms include pain, inability to use a limb(腿). Wear a mask for the pet and look for bleeding. If you can
control bleeding without causing more injury, then do so.Watch for signs of shock.Don't try to set the fractures by
pulling the limb.Transport the pet to the veterinarian immediately, supporting the injured part as best as you can.

As 17-year-old Torri’ell Norwood drove through Florida, last February, the laughter and chatter from the four
teenage girls inside her car quickly gave way to screams. As they approached an intersection, another car T-boned
them, sending their car sailing into the yard of a nearby home, coming to a stop only when it crashed into a tree.
As smoke rose from the car, a bystander shouted, “It’s about to explode! Get out!” Shaken, but otherwise OK,
Norwood crawled out through the window as the driver’s side door couldn’t be opened. Along with two of her
friends, who’d also managed to free themselves, she ran for her life. But halfway down the street, she realized that
her best friend, Simmons, wasn’t with them. Norwood ran back and found Simmons unconscious in the back seat.
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂She threw open the back door and pulled her friend out. She dragged Simmons a few feet to safety and laid her on
the ground. After checking her pulse and found there was no sign of life, she started CPR.
Had the accident happened a few weeks earlier, she might not have known what to do. But just the day before,
Norwood, who wanted to pursue a career in medicine, had earned her CPR certificate by learning on her own.
Kneeling on the ground and looking down at her dying friend, Norwood knew she had precious little time to
practice what she’d learned.
She started pumping Simmons’s chest with her interlocked fingers and breathing into her friend’s mouth in
hopes of filling her lungs with the kiss of life. After quite a while, Simmons began coughing and taking quick deep
breaths for air. The CPR had worked! Soon, the ambulance arrived and rushed Simmons to the hospital. And then
she heard how her best friend had saved her life. “I wasn’t shocked,” Simmons told others. “She will always help
any way she can.”
4.What caused the car crash?
A.The girls were too excited to notice another car.
B.Norwood drove the car too quickly that day.
C.Norwood’s car crashed into a tree in a yard.
D.Another car hit Norwood’s car near the intersection.
5.What’s Norwood’s immediate reaction after hearing the bystander’s warning?
A.She crawled out through the window and looked for her friends.
B.She ran for her life but turned back to save her friend.
C.She dragged her friends out and performed CPR at once.
D.She opened the driver’s side door and pulled her friend out.
6.Why did Norwood know how to perform CPR?
A.She had learned CPR in school classes. B.She just received her CPR certificate.
C.The bystander told her how to do it. D.She pursued a career in medicine.
7.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Breath of Life. B.A Frightening Night.
C.Power of Knowledge. D.An Admirable Girl.

知,另一辆车在十字路口附近撞上了Norwood的车,才导致的车祸。故选D项。
5.细节理解题。由第二段中的“Along with two of her friends, who’d also managed to free themselves, she ran
for her life. But halfway down the street, she realized that her best friend, Simmons, wasn’t with them. Norwood
ran back and found Simmons unconscious in the back seat. She threw open the back door and pulled her friend out.

中的“And then she heard how her best friend had saved her life. (然后Simmons听说了她最好的朋友是如何救
了她的命)”可知,全文讲了Torri’ell Norwood在开车遭遇车祸后,冒着车子爆炸的危险救出已经没有气息
的朋友,并用自己的急救知识为朋友施行心肺复苏术挽回其生命的故事,所以本文的最佳标题是:生命的
呼息。故选A项。

The life of a premature (早产的) baby born during the winter storm in Texas was saved thanks to a team of
medical professionals, including a doctor and two nurses who traveled from east Austin to Marble Falls in an effort
to save a newborn baby's life.
When Arias began experiencing pains, she and her parents headed to the closest hospital, Baylor Scott &
White. Arias gave birth to her daughter, Zaylynn, who weighed just over one pound and was in need of advanced
special care. However, the hospital does not offer the specialized care premature babies require.
"We had five or six people out at the nurses' station calling hospital networks all over the state of Texas," said
Meredith Schubert, the labor and delivery nurse on duty when Arias arrived. "Nobody could answer our cry for

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
47.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a misty morning in July, Clay and Acaimie arrived at the base of Mount Liamuiga, ready for their first
honeymoon climb. They had married just five days earlier back home in Indiana, the United States.
They had their apparent differences. Acaimie had always been the worrier. Clay, on the other hand, was an
optimist—always certain that things would turn out just fine. So it was Clay who wanted to take a day of their
honeymoon and climb Mount Liamuiga, which is also a dead volcano—a popular destination for vacationers
looking for adventure.
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂The couple, dressed in white T-shirts and sneakers, arrived for their journey in a rental car expecting to
explore. When arriving, they found an empty dirt parking lot with just a small sign marking the beginning of the
track. They made their way up anyway.
It took them nearly three hours to reach the peak, but the view made it all worthwhile. Though worn-out, they
couldn't have been happier as they took a few selfies(自拍)with their cellphones, and walked around the edge of
the volcano.
That's when Clay saw it: a small track, half-hidden beneath plant life, that led into the volcano's crater(火山
口). A series of holes had been drilled into the rocks, with ropes that led down. For Clay, the sight was incredibly
inviting. It felt like a secret entrance to a mysterious paradise(天堂,乐园). Acaimie was less enthusiastic. The
track was steep, and she was afraid of heights, but she bravely followed Clay's lead. After just a few minutes of
going downwards, though, she'd had enough. She told her husband she'd wait on the rocks just off the track while
he went exploring. “Just be quick,” she said as she watched him set off on the rough path, zigzagging(曲折前
进)while grasping the rope.

【答案】A few minutes later, she heard a noise of something rolling downhill and a cry for help from deep within
the crater. Acaimie fought back a wave of panic. Leaning forward, she figured out it was Clay. She pulled out her
cellphone, only to find there was no signal. Without delay, Acaimie grabbed the rope and began climbing down the
track. Finally, she spotted his white T-shirt. Getting closer, she could see his head bleeding and was in shock. She
was calling for help but in vain. Determined to drag him out, she helped Clay shakily to his feet. She told him to
hold the rope tightly and pushed him from behind. Step by step, they climbed with all their might.
There was nobody when they reached the top, but fortunately she found a signal on her cellphone. Instantly, she
dialed 911 once again and described what had happened to her husband in a worried voice. The operator promised
to send an ambulance at once and asked Acaimie to stop bleeding first. While waiting for the ambulance, Acaimie
had Clay rest in a flat position, stopping the bleeding with a clean cloth. Ultimately, the paramedics came and took
Clay to the hospital immediately. It was Acaimie’s bravery and wisdom that saved her husband’s life.
