Famous for its sunny beaches and natural wonders, Miyako Island welcomes many visitors during holidays.
Unique beaches
Yonaha Maehama Beach is the most famous beach in Miyakojima, where white sand stretches for seven
kilometers. The ocean is colored in emerald blue, mesmerizing visitors with its beauty. Compact Sunayama Beach,
known for its arch-shaped rock, is tucked away in a small cove, and is accessed by walking through a narrow tunnel
of trees.Diverse and colorful fish
Snorkeling is a must-try in Miyakojima. Dense coral reefs, schools of tropical fish, sea turtles and plenty of
space to free dive to depths of 8 to 15 meters close to the shore are standout features. For beginners, Aragusuku and
Shigira are a good choice but advanced divers may see Imgyo Marine Garden, Waiwai Beach and Shimojishima as
their ultimate spots.
The bridges
Irabu Bridge is the longest toll-free bridge in Japan. It connects Miyakojima and Irabujima, stretching for
3540m, drawing a gentle curve. The length of the bridge can also be read as “san(3) go (5) no shi (4) ma,” meaning
coral island in Japanese. Smaller bridges connect Irabu Island and Shimoji Island, giving visitors additional beach
options. On Shimoji Island, there is a boardwalk around Tooriike, two dramatic marine ponds connected to each
other and the sea by an underwater cave system.
Fresh island food
Delight your senses with succulent, melt-in-your-mouth Miyako beef, delicious Miyako soba (noodles served
in broth), or fresh fruit. Okinawa prefecture boasts the highest mango yield in Japan, and Miyako Island’s warm
subtropical climate is optimal for growing fresh, juicy mangoes. Ice cream with a pinch of salt known as “yuki shio
(snow salt)” does more than simply keep you cool.
21. What can visitors do on the island?
A. Catch the colorful tropical fish.
B. Enjoy the pleasure that diving brings.
C. Taste the delicious special mango ice cream.
D. Walk on the white sands of Compact Sunayama Beach.

China’s technique of growing Juncao, the herbal plant used in the growing of edible mushrooms, has
contributed to global poverty reduction, agronomist Lin Zhanxi said at the Delegates’ Passage before the 20th
National Congress of the Communist Party of China on Oct.16,2022.
“We offer training at home and abroad, send our experts to teach local farmers, and we do serve them heart
and soul as our brothers,” said Lin, the chief scientist of the National Juncao Technology Research Center and a
professor at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, who discovered and shares this mushroom-growing
technology beyond China for years. The technique was later promoted from East China’s Fujian province to other
areas in the country and has even reached countries across the world. As a fungi (真菌) expert, Lin said he first came up with the idea of using Juncao grass instead of wood for
producing mushrooms in the 1970s. In 1971, Lin was the first person to suggest the idea of cultivating edible fungi
in chopped-up wild grass. After an investigation in rural areas in Fujian province in 1983, he decided to do research
to put his idea into practice. At the end of 1986, Lin saw the first Juncao mushroom growing in his laboratory.
Since then, Lin and his team have developed the technology by using 45 different kinds of grasses as Juncao fungi
grass.
Juncao moved 17,700 farmers out of poverty in Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui autonomous region. The
technique has been promoted to 106 countries and regions around the world.
Twenty years ago, villagers in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea began to learn this
modern biological technology with the help of Chinese agronomists. After the experimental planting of Juncao
grass was successful in Papua New Guinea, villagers shouted “Juncao, China!” to express their excitement, Lin
said. Many people in the South Pacific, Latin America and African countries have shaken off poverty through
growing Juncao grass and mushrooms, he added.
More than 12,000 Chinese experts have been trained to promote the technique worldwide, contributing
Chinese wisdom to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, Lin said.
24. What is the most important contribution Juncao technology made to the world?
A. It helped 17,700 farmers out of poverty.
B. It promoted mushroom-growing technology.
C. It is helping to reduce poverty in the whole world.
D. It provided farmers worldwide with training chances.
25. Which of the following words can best describe Lin Zhanxi?
A. Devoted and helpful. B. Generous and warm-hearted.
C. Unselfish and independent. D. Honest and intelligent.
26. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The developing process of Juncao technology.
B. The investigation of Juncao technology.
C. The promotion of Juncao technology.
D. The theory of Juncao/ technology.
27. What is the villagers’ attitude towards growing Juncao?
A. Uncaring. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Opposing.

A small Swedish study found evidence of increased melatonin (褪黑素) in healthy adults who used a weighted
blanket before bed.
For many people who struggle with anxiety and poor sleep, weighted blankets are one cozy, wellness luxury
well worth the small investment. Many shoppers swear by the calming benefits of weighted blankets, reporting
better sleep, lower stress and anxiety, and overall increased feelings of relaxation.
But scientifically speaking, there aren’t many studies to confirm the benefits of lying under a weightedblanket. That’s why researchers from Uppsala University in Sweden carry out a small study to find out whether
using a weighted blanket — compared to using a light blanket— can actually help boost sleep-promoting
chemicals. such as melatonin and oxytocin.
Twenty-six young, healthy adults participated in the study. In stage one they were covered with a weighted
blanket (weighing about 12 percent of their body weight) for one hour before bedtime, followed by an eight-hour
sleep window. Researchers collected saliva (唾液) samples during the pre-sleep hour to measure changes in
melatonin and other hormone (荷尔蒙) materials. In stage two, participants were covered with a light blanket (2.4
percent of their body weight) for the night.
In the end, the results found that when participants laid under a weighted blanket for an hour before bedtime,
they showed about a 32 percent increase in salivary melatonin compared to when they used the lighter blanket.
“Our study is the first to suggest that using a weighted blanket may result in a more significant release of
melatonin at bedtime,” the study says, adding that more studies are needed to find whether more melatonin will be
produced during a whole night’s sleep when frequently using a weighted blanket over weeks to months.
While this study is quite small and just a first step exploring the health benefits of weighted blankets, it does
suggest that this cozy blanket may indeed positively promote sleep.
28. Why are people who struggle with sleep problems mentioned?
A. To introduce the participants of the experiment.
B. To illustrate the reason of the experiment.
C. To show the conclusion of the experiment.
D. To warn the influence of bad sleeping.
29. What does the underlined word “boost” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Change. B. Reduce.
C. Carry. D. Improve.
30. What can we learn about the experiment?
A. It lasts at least for 8 hours.
B. It is successful and there is no need to carry on.
C. It suggests a weighted blanket may result in a better sleep.
D. It reveals more melatonin is produced during a whole night’s sleep.
31. What could be the best title for the text?
A. How to Have a Good Sleep B. A Weighted Blanket or a Light One
C. A Study on Sleep Regulation D. Melatonin and Sleep

This century, many countries will face a difficult situation: how to balance human needs with the requirements
of natural systems that are vital for sustaining life on Earth? The United Nations recently outlined the extent of the
problem, saying that 2.7 billion people would face severe water shortages by 2025 if consumption continues at
current rates. Today, an estimated1.2 billion people drink unclean water, and about 2.5 billion lack proper toilets or
waste disposal systems. More than five million people die each year from diseases related to unclean water. Allover the globe, humans are taking water out of the ground faster than it can be refilled.
In this difficult situation, water conservationists, such as Rajendra Singh in India, are working to find solutions
to the water crisis. They have found creative ways to improve their local water situations.
Rajendra Singh in India together with his organization would provide the engineering advice and materials;
the villagers would supply the work. The 30-foot-high earthen dam and reservoir (水库), known as a johad, could
be finished in three months, before the start of the rainy season. If the rains were plentiful, the reservoir would not
only provide enough surface water for drinking and agriculture, but would also refill dry wells.
In recent years, Singh’s johads have sprung up all over Rajasthan —— about 4,500 dams in about 1,000
villages. “If the villagers feel a johad is their own, they will maintain it,” said Singh. “This is a very sustainable,
self-reliant system. I can say confidently that if we can manage rain in India in traditional ways, there will be
sufficient water for our growing population.”
Some people still hope that new technology, such as the desalination (淡化) of seawater, will solve the world’s
water problems. “But the fact is, water conservation is where the big gains are to be made,” says Sandra Postel of
the Global Water Policy Project. The job that people like Rajendra Singh do offers inspiration for carrying out
timely and lasting solutions to the world’s water concerns.
32. What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A. Much more water is needed nowadays than before.
B. Water problems are rather serious nowadays worldwide.
C. Waste disposal systems are vital for sustaining life on Earth.
D. Many countries will work. together to deal with water problems.
33. What were the villagers able to do for Rejendra Singh’s johads?
A. Provide materials and own the johads.
B. Offer their labour and maintain the johads.
C. Build johads and improve the water situation.
D. Give engineering advice and offer their own solutions.
34. In Sandra’ s opinion, what is the best solution to the world’s water problems?
A. Water conservation. B. New technology.
C. The desalination of seawater. D. Rajendra Singh’s johads.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. An effective and practical way to deal with water problems.
B. The environment problems which are becoming worse and worse.
C. Water problems outlined by the United Nations.
D. Water shortage all over the world.

I was never a fast runner and thus I always didn’t like running. Throughout my childhood, whenever we
competed in the 50-meter run, the 400-meter, or any other type of race, I would finish in the bottom half. In my late
teens, as a member of a baseball team, I was the slowest runner on the team. In the preseason training, I was always
the one running by myself at the end.
Therefore, twenty years later, when I entered my first official running race — a 3,000-meter challenge in my
city — at age 38,I certainly didn’t expect to win or come close to winning.
I was there because my college friend Jim Hosek was the director of the race, and he asked me to run. The
race was aimed at raising money for the unfortunate patients in a hospital and encouraging the patients and their
families to be brave, determined, and confident with sportsmanship.
It was a heartwarming program. I wanted to support it, so I showed up, paid the entrance fee, had a number
pinned (把……别住) on my back, and moved over to the starting line. There, I waited with about 300 other runners
for the race to begin. I was nervous. Would I be the last one to finish a race again? Could I even finish the race? I
wondered.
Before long, someone spoke into a microphone, “Anyone weighing over 200 pounds comes down to the scale
(秤), please.” Knowing I was over 200 pounds, I walked down to the scale. A man told me to stand on it. “Two
hundred and three pounds,” he said. Then he wrote down the race number that was on my back. Out of curiosity, I
asked him why he did so, and then I was told there would be an award ceremony(仪式) after the race. One award
was for the first finisher in the over 200-pound group, and this special award would be announced at the end of the
ceremony.

1. 续写词数为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

High school subject selection is a major decision that can have a profound impact on a student’s academic
performance and future career. Here are some suggestions.
First of all, we should consider our interests. When we have a passion for a subject, we are more likely to be
motivated to learn, put in more efforts and achieve better results. Besides, we should have a clear understanding of
our talents and academic strengths. If we are good at logical thinking, science subjects may be more suitable for us.
Moreover, we need to think about our future career plans and the requirements of universities, which can increase
our chances of being admitted to ideal universities and majors.
In conclusion, only by having a comprehensive consideration can we make a wise choice for our own
development.
第二节 读后续写(共25分)
One possible version:
Not expecting the award, I ran towards the starting line. Soon after, the race began. I saw many runners pass
me on the way while I was running. Minutes later, I already felt tired, bathed in sweat. However, thinking of the
patients who need help and inspiration, I tried to show my best, without worrying about the result. I kept moving
forward as fast as I could. After most runners finished the race, I finally made it to the finish line. Despite the
exhaustion, I was happy and satisfied.
Shortly after the race, the award ceremony began. Then came the last award, and to my surprise, my name
was announced. Confused and excited,I walked up to the winner’s platform and was awarded a medal. Facing the
cheeringand clapping crowd, I felt so warm. After the ceremony, I learned there were only two runners weighing over
200 pounds. Although I only beat one person, I was so proud of myself. It was my determination and kindness that
enabled me to make it. More importantly, this race increased my love for running and my confidence in myself.

1.
W: Stephen won’t go to the party because he has to work.
M: Selina has to study and Sue has caught a bad cold, so they won’t go, either.
2.
W: Tom, I heard you guys study by groups. How big is your study group?
M: Well, there were eight of us to begin with. Then three students left.
3.
M: Hi, Jane. You’ve just been to the earthquake area, haven’t you?
W: Yes. As a volunteer of the Red Cross,I went there with a medical team.
4.
M: It’s so hot today. I simply can’t work. I wish there were a fan in this room.
W: So do I. I’ll fall asleep if I stay here any longer.
5.
M: Can you come to my birthday party tomorrow evening, Aunt Amy?
W:I’d like to, but I’m afraid I can’t. I will still be at work at 8:00p. m.. I will be operating on a patient then.
6.
W: What’s that new movie like? Is it a drama?
M: Kind of. This volcano suddenly comes up out of the ocean in San Francisco, so this family is trying to get away
from it. It’s a good story, though. What I like most is the scenery. It’s pretty scary and very realistic.
W: Are the special effects any good?
M: They’ re great!
W: Does it have any famous actors in it?
M: Not really. They really should have had better actors. The two stars are just so-so. But the music is great.
W:I think I should go and see it next weekend.
7.
W: What are you doing this weekend?
M: I’m going to ride my motorcycle to the mountains with my friends. It’ ll be a short trip. We’ ll start on Saturday
morning and be back on Sunday night. How about you?
W:I’m going camping with my parents. We will go to the countryside.
M: You should go with me. Riding a motorcycle is more exciting than camping. And you can enjoy the sunrise at
the top of the mountain.
W: Maybe, but I’ve ridden a motorcycle once and I think it’s too dangerous. I’d like to relax and it’s so peaceful in
the countryside. We will sit by the river, sing songs and look at stars.M: You are right. Different people have different hobbies. Enjoy yourself!
8.
W: What are you reading this time, Mason?
M: It’s called Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
W: Oh, yes. Many kids are coming in requesting it. What is it about?
M: It’s about a boy my age who discovers he is the son of a Greek god. He then goes on a journey to recover
something that is stolen from a powerful god.
W: Ancient Greek history is interesting, isn’t it?
M: Yes,I love it. And it’s a lot better than reading those boring textbooks in school.
W: You may be right. However, the information in textbooks is much more accurate.
M:I know. This is just more exciting, and I can relate to the main characters.
W: It sounds like you would like historical fiction. It’s a bit above your current reading level now, though.
M: Mrs. Lang? Can I take this home with me?
W: Certainly. Just write your name down, along with the date you check it out. It’s due back in one week.
M:I’ ll finish it before that!
9.
M: Hi, long time no see. Are you accustomed to the life here in London?
W: Yes, but the weather is different here.
M: Do you like it more here?
W: Well, London can be warm and sunny in the summer. But in the winter, it can be very cold and rainy.
M: How do you travel to work?
W: Usually I go by underground, because it’s quicker than bus or taxi. But the tickets are more expensive than in
Athens.
M: Is life in London expensive?
W: Well, supermarkets aren’t, but restaurants are very expensive. English people don’t eat in restaurants as much
as Greeks.
M: Are English people very different from Greek people?
W: Yes, in some ways.
M: How about the people here at work?
W: Those I work with are very nice, and I’ve got some good friends here in London. We often go out together.
M: Where?
W: Sometimes we go to a bar for a drink. And last Saturday it was my birthday.
M: Oh! Happy birthday for last Saturday!
W: Thank you. We went to an Italian restaurant. It was lovely!
M: Oh, very nice!
10.Good afternoon. Today, I will be giving you the study guide for your coming exam. Although it will cover all15
chapters of our textbooks, you will only be tested on what I give you today. So, if you pay close attention, the exam
should be pretty straightforward. As I said last Friday, there will be a total of 10 essay questions. You will need to
use a minimum of three concepts you have learned from each chapter in responding to each of the questions. I will
provide extra credit questions at the end of the exam.
If you have any questions after class, come to see me at my office. I will be available for the rest of this week and
the beginning of next week. The exam will be next Wednesday. Anyone who needs to make up the exam may do so
on the following Monday. However, you must be able to provide a doctor’s note or a written letter from your
parents explaining your situation in order to take the makeup exam. There will be no exceptions. Any questions?
