应用文:
Dear Frank,
I’m thrilled to share you about the upcycling competition I took part in last Friday at
school. It was such a meaningful and fun experience!
I turned my old jeans into a cute storage bag with pockets for pens and small stationery. I
cut the legs of the jeans, sewed the bottom closed, and added some colorful buttons as
decoration.
It was simple but creative, and I even got a prize for it!
This competition made me realize the value of reusing old things. I not only improved my
hands-on skills but also developed a stronger sense of environmental protection. It’s amazing
how small changes can make a big difference.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
读后续写:
There was no fence at all. It was a bridge! A bridge stretched from one side of the creek to the
other! John was about to complain about it, when he found his younger brother was coming across
the bridge with hands outstretched. “You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I have said
and done,” said John’s brother. The two brothers met in the middle, taking each other’s hand and
1hugging each other.
They turned to see the carpenter lift the toolbox onto his shoulder. “No, wait! Stay a few more
days. We have more jobs for you,” said the older brother. “I’d love to stay on,” the carpenter said,
“but I have many more bridges to build.” Observing the carpenter leaving in the sunset, the two
brothers waved grateful goodbye to him. What a thought-provoking story! Every day we have the
choice of building a fence or a bridge. One leads to separation and anger while the other leads to
openness and friendship, the latter of which makes the situation quite pleasant.

W: So, tell me, sir, when did you notice the problem with your arm? I will examine it later.
M: I was having dinner at a restaurant with my wife last night. I suddenly felt a sharp pain.
Text 3

M: OK.
Text 4
W: What about going to the beach now?
M: I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s still early. Look at the sun. The party at the beach won’t begin
until 7 :00 pm. Let’s leave home after sunset.
W: All right.
Text 5

W: So what was the lowlight?
M: The weather.
Text 6
M: Hello, Grace. What are you going to do tomorrow?
W: Nothing special. I’m planning to do some laundry. Why do you ask?
2M: Well, my uncle will take me to Disneyland tomorrow. Since you told me last year you really
looked forward to a trip there, I wonder if you want to go.
W: I’d love to, but I can’t afford such a trip.
M: Don’t worry about the money. My uncle will pay for it.

Text 8
W: Jason, I heard you’re looking for a babysitter for your daughter. Is that true?
M: Yes. We’re looking for someone who can help us with Emma from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm in our
house.
W: What does Emma usually do during this period?
M: She plays outside from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Then she eats some snacks. From 11:00 am to
12:30 pm she plays with building blocks and watches cartoons. Lunch time begins at 12:40 pm.
W: Does she take a nap?
M: Yes. She usually takes a nap from 1:15 pm to 2:15 pm.
W: So what are your requirements for the babysitter?
M: Experience is a must. It should be a girl over 18. It’s better if she knows CPR. It doesn’t matter
if she can’t speak English. Do you know anyone who is the right person for it?
W: Yes. Me. I’m looking for some babysitting work now.
M: That’s wonderful.
Text 9
W: Good morning, James. Welcome to join us tonight. You’ve won in a contest recently. So what
contest is it?
M: It’s the 2021 Youth with Refugees Art Contest. It challenged young people to design a soccer
ball based on the theme “Together through sport”.
W: What did you design?
M: A soccer ball of three colors. I used white, red and blue to design the ball. White equals peace,
red equals courage, and blue equals freedom.
W: That’s challenging. It is not an easy job. Do you love playing soccer in your spare time?
3M: Yes. When I play soccer, I forget all my worries.
W: What do you think of the other winners’ designs?
M: They all look great. I especially love the design of a winner named Nadira Ganji. Her design
features athletes playing a variety of sports. They were all players coming from different backgrounds
with different abilities. It is very impressive.
W: I’m really curious about all the winners’ designs now.
M: The winning designs will be turned into real soccer balls by a charity called Alive and Kicking.
You’ll see them soon.
W: That’s great! It’s really an honor to meet you. Thank you for your time.
M: The pleasure is all mine.

M: Welcome to Shanghai. I am your guide. Now I’ll tell you what you’ll do during your trip in
Shanghai. This morning, you’ll visit the Shanghai Tower first. It’s the highest landmark of Shanghai.
There you can take the fastest elevator in the world, and have a bird’s-eye view of the entire city.
You’ll have lunch at a restaurant nearby at noon. After lunch, it’s time to explore the ancient part of
Shanghai — Yu Garden. There you can see what an old garden of Shanghai looks like. You can try
to find the five dragons there. After supper you’ll be on the Bund. You can walk slowly to look at
the old and new buildings on the two sides. The next day, you’ll take a sightseeing bus to Zhujiajiao
Water Town. Zhujiajiao Water Town is the nearest water town to Shanghai and it takes about 40
minutes to get there. There you can walk along the bridges and by the river, and relax in a rowing
boat. This lovely town will make you forget that you are by a big city. After that, you’ll be taken to
the airport.
