There’s nothing more magical than spending a summer evening watching a bit of theatre. There are plenty
of outdoor theatres to choose from, and we’ve put together a list of the best ones.
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, London
No matter the weather, when Regent’s Park starts its theatre season, summer has truly begun. Surrounded
by thick whistling trees and singing birds, you may as well be a thousand miles from the surrounding city.
This year sees a typically varied programme with Twelfth Night opening, Fiddler on the Roof closing
and plenty in between.
Thorington Theatre, Suffolk
A new and beautiful addition to the outdoor theatre world, opening in 2021, Thorington is hidden in the
Suffolk woodlands. This year’s programme includes family favourites such as Teddy Bear’s Picnic and The
Little Mermaid, Shakespeare’s The Tempest as well as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a little Sondheim with
Sunday in the Park with George. You can also now order a picnic from local supper club Husk to meet you an
hour before your show.
Minack Theatre, Cornwall
Built into a cliff (悬崖) face in Porthcurno, you hardly need an excuse to visit this theatre. This year sees touring productions of Little Shop of Horrors, The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary
and the usual knowledge of Shakespeare amongst other things. If you want a show particularly fitting for this
unique surrounding, check out The Pirates of Penzance playing in September.
Roman Theatre Open Air Festival St Alban’s
Situated in the country’s oldest theatre still actually producing theatre — an old Roman theatre, hence the
name — this year the festival offers a mix of straight classics, modern retellings and brand-new scripts (剧本).
I’m a person interested in any production of Sondheim’s Into the Woods, and as the name suggests, there’s no
better place to see it than an outdoor theatre.
21.What do the four theaters have in common?
A.They are newly built. B.They are built outdoors.
C.They show Shakespeare’s plays. D.They intend to open in summer.
22.Which theater is the most suitable for the Browns and their children?
A.Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, London. B.Thorington Theatre, Suffolk.
C.Minack Theatre, Cornwall. D.Roman Theatre Open Air Festival St Alban’s.
23.Which program may the author choose?
A.Twelfth Night. B.A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
C.Little Shop of Horrors. D.Into the Woods.

In January 1998, 6-year-old Ryan sat in his first grade classroom. He was shocked to learn that many
people in developing African countries couldn’t get enough clean water. Not only did they not have a water
fountain a few steps from the classroom, like he did, but he learned millions of African children also got sick and
some even died because of polluted water. That day, Ryan decided to do something.
At first, he cleaned windows and did gardening for his family and neighbours. After four months, he saved
up $70 — a fortune to a 6-year-old. He thought it was enough to build a well in Africa. However, when he gave
the money to a charity, he was told that it actually cost $2,000 to build a well. Seventy dollars was only enough
for a hand pump. Ryan understood that a hand pump wouldn’t help the children. What they needed was a well
dug near their homes.
Two thousand dollars was a lot of money, but Ryan didn’t give up. He was determined to help other
children have clean water. He started to ask for help from his classmates and neighbours and persuaded them to
donate money. At the same time, a friend of Ryan’s mother helped make his story go public. After several
months, Ryan had raised the $2,000, with which a well was built near a primary school in Uganda.
Later, Ryan set up a foundation to encourage more people to help. Many inspired people gave him their
support. Ryan’s foundation continues to attract support from more and more people, so the work of building
more wells can go on. Today, over 800,000 people in 16 countries across Africa have benefited from the life-
changing gift of clean, safe water.
24.What motivated Ryan to take action to help people in Africa?
A.His family’s involvement in charity. B.A desire to build a well for his family.
C.Learning about the shortage of clean water. D.Being inspired by his classmates’ selfless act.
25.How did Ryan eventually raise the $2, 000 needed to build a well in Uganda?
A.By doing extra chores. B.By turning to his parents.C.By switching to the media. D.By asking for donations.
26.Which of the following best describes Ryan?
A.Humorous and helpful. B.Intelligent and interesting.
C.Gifted and understanding. D.Persistent and influential.
27.What does the author intend to tell us?
A.Water is the life-changing gift. B.A little kid can make a difference.
C.Donating money can change the world. D.Children should be taught about charity.

After posting a short video on April 27 about planting and cooking peas, Chinese food blogger Li Ziqi
witnessed her followers on YouTube over 10 million. Li shares short videos recording her traditional and
peaceful lifestyle in China’s countryside. This makes her shot to fame.

and life, so I hope they can feel relaxed when watching my videos.” “There are so many ideas in my mind of old
craftsmanship (技艺) and food we have been enjoying for thousands of years. Some are almost forgotten. I hope
to preserve them through my small efforts.”

Cows love having an open area of grassland to graze on. But in some parts of the world, this is onlypossible during the summer. In the winter months, it can become too cold for cows to safely stay outside, so they
are kept in a large farm building for warmth. Being stuck inside is not always pleasant for the cattle, and their
unhappiness is closely connected to less milk production.
For this reason, some cattle owners have fitted their cows with VR headsets that run a program
specifically. The program simulates grassland in summer and was designed specifically for the way that cows get
color and light. According to the National Library of Medicine, cattle see shades of red the easiest but have a
hard time distinguishing between blue and green.
Reports from a farm in Moscow, Russia — where the VR headsets were first developed by vets — found
in 2019 that the cows that used the VR headsets saw a decrease in anxiety and an improved mood. This led to an
increase in milk production; which went from 5.8 gallons to 7 gallons a day.
Cattle owner Izzet Kocak from Aksaray, Turkey, heard about this experiment and tried the VR headsets on
his cows in December 2021. When Kocak put the headsets on his cows, he found an improvement in the
emotional well-being of his animals. “They are watching an area of grassland, and it gives them an emotional
boost. They are less stressed,” he said.
The technology is now being passed around the world. According to the BBC, the headsets were made
specifically for the “structural features of cow heads” by vets, and the animals were shown a “unique summer
field simulation program”. The familiar sight of an area of grassland is enough to improve the mood of the entire
herd.
Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation says that research has shown a link between a cow’s
emotional state and its milk production. They stated, “Examples of dairy farms from different countries show
that in a calm atmosphere, the quantity of milk increases markedly.”
32.Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.The cows can produce milk normally in the winter.
B.The cows prefer to live in a misty environment.
C.The VR headsets operate a unique program.
D.The VR headsets only display three colors.
33.What’s the result of cows’ wearing the VR headsets?
A.They could distinguish between blue and green.
B.Their milk production rose accordingly.
C.Their physical health improved greatly.
D.They could adapt to winter easily.
34.What concept is behind the VR headset program?
A.High tech is necessary in the dairy field.
B.A silent environment helps cows stay healthy.
C.Natural grassland is better for the milk quality.
D.A cow with good moods can produce more milk.
35.Which can be the best title for this passage?
A.Keeping cows inside benefits a lot. B.VR headsets boost milk production.
C.VR technology sees farming development. D.Depressed emotion affects the quality of milk.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

If anyone had told me three years ago that I would be spending most of my weekends camping, I would
have laughed heartily. Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insect bites, ill-cooked meals, and
uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with me. 36
The friends who introduced me to camping thought that it meant to be a pioneer. 37 We slept in
a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower and use the bathroom. This brief
visit with Mother Nature cost me two days off from work, recovering from a bad case of sunburn and the
doctor’s bill for my son’s food poisoning.
I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun-filled holiday in the wilderness. 38
Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner. My nature-loving friends had
remembered to bring all the necessities of life.
39 We have done a lot of it since. Recently, we bought a twenty-eight-foot travel trailer complete
with a bathroom and a built-in TV set. There is a separate bedroom, a modern kitchen with a refrigerator. The
trailer even has matching carpet and curtains.
40 It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature. I recommend
that you find your way in style.
A.This time there was no tent.
B.Things are going to be improved.
C.The trip they took me on was a rough one.
D.I was to learn a lot about camping since then, however.
E.I must say that I have certainly come to enjoy camping.
F.After the trip, my family became quite interested in camping.
G.There was no shade as the trees were no more than 3 feet tall.

Our drive to look for happiness is a muscle that we can exercise and develop. Almost anyone can learn to
develop their reward sensitivity (奖励敏感性) by 41 themselves to notice and experience their
positive emotions.

can prove and increase them. When reflecting on how something made you feel, try to be 48 , usingwords like calm, overjoyed, delighted, inspired beyond fine, good or great.
Share your highlight reel (高光时刻): 49 what made you happiest can make you feel better.
Spread that happiness to another person — and also strengthen a bond.
Find bright sides: With practice, it’s possible to 50 the positives hidden in things that we
might first see as negative. For example, if you invited co-workers to get together and only one person 51
, you could easily view that as a(n) 52 . But the bright side would be that you got to know that one
person better.
Keep in mind, too, that it’s normal to feel 53 with pleasurable feelings sometimes,
particularly if you experience depression and anxiety. Worrying can make you feel like you’re ready to respond
to threats — but by constantly 54 disaster, we miss the happiness in front of us right now.
Sometimes we need to 55 like happy people if we actually want to be happy.

One Friday afternoon, some of my classmates planned to take a hike in a jungle(丛林), including my
friends Jake and Liam. They asked me if I would like to go with them. I love outdoor activities, so I immediately
said yes.
It was sunny the following morning. I was in a very good mood. I was so excited about hiking since it was
the first time that I had hiked with them. I ate a light breakfast. After that, I hurriedly ran out of my house to
meet them in the school playground.
The jungle where we were going was far from our school. It took about three hours to go there by bus, but
it wasn’t a boring journey as we were all eager to hike. After we got off the bus, we found a local guide to ensure
our safety. The guide, whose name is Thomas, said that he had hiked there lots of times and that he was familiar
with the route. When we arrived, Thomas told us never to leave the group. He warned us that we would easily
get lost in the jungle if we walked alone. Then we began to hike.
There were various plants which we had never seen before. All of us were amazed at the beauty of the
scenery and the sounds of the creatures. Sadly, after hiking for about an hour, I found that my watch on my wrist
was gone. I realized that my watch had fallen off. It was a gift from my grandma, and I loved it very much.
Without thinking, I turned back and tried to find my watch. Since I was the last one walking in the group,
nobody noticed it when I walked away.
I wasn’t worried about getting lost because I thought I could find my watch easily. However, when I
finally found my watch and tried to catch up with my friends, they had gone far. I immediately realized that I
was alone and lost.
