NAIROBI — Mirriam Wambui, a 13-year-old student, speaks Chinese with the confidence of a seasoned
第 3页/共 16页linguist despite having only two years of exposure to the language. She won the Kenyan Chinese Bridge
Competition, ranked sixth in Africa and made it to the top 30 globally at the contest in Tianjin in late October.
“I was overjoyed to win in Kenya,” Mirriam says. Her journey with the Chinese language began through her
eldest brother, who traveled to China in 2015 to pursue a master’s degree in Chinese. When he returned to visit
their family in Nairobi in 2019, Mirriam was impressed by his fluency in Chinese. “My brother came back with a
cellphone I had never seen before, and everything he brought, including electronics, was made in China. I became
curious about this country that seemed to produce so much,” she says with a giggle.
Inspired, she enrolled in Chinese language classes two years ago. In May, with only two weeks left, she asked
to join the school’s Chinese Bridge team. “My teacher was shocked as I wasn’t initially picked, but I believed in
myself and went all out to prepare.” she says.
Her confidence paid off. At Kenyatta University, she wowed judges and won a laptop, trophy (奖杯) and a
sponsored China trip. In October, she visited China. “People were so nice,” she says.
Her success inspired peers to learn Chinese. Teacher Charity Atunga says Chinese is the most popular of three
options, with 90 of 200 students choosing it. “Support from parents and schools makes it great. Students see
benefits like scholarships,” Atunga adds. She herself studied in China on a scholarship and later became a teacher.
Kenyatta University, in partnership with Shandong Normal University, hosts the Chinese Bridge Competition
for high school students in Kenya. Through this partnership, over 300 Kenyan students have traveled to China.
“I want to become an ambassador in the future and learn more about Chinese language and culture.” says
Mirriam.
4. What inspired Mirriam to learn Chinese?
A. Attractive scholarships for Chinese learners.
B. Her brother’s wonderful experience in China.
C. Benefits of Chinese learning from her teacher.
D. Eagerness to win the Chinese Bridge Competition.
5. Which of the following best describes Mirriam?
A. Confident and ambitious.
B. Determined and patriotic.
C. Generous and adventurous.
D. Caring and thoughtful.
6. What can we learn from the text?
第 4页/共 16页A. Self-belief and efforts count.
B. Rome is not built in one day.
C. The early bird catches the worm.
D. Actions speak louder than words.
7. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Scholarships Open Doors to Chinese Education in Kenya.
B. A Kenyan Girl Explores Chinese Culture and Innovation.
C. “Made in China” Inspires Kenyan Teens to Embrace Mandarin.

It is widely recognized that the human brain, particularly brain cells, functions as the central storage site
responsible for storing memories. Nevertheless, a team of scientists has discovered that cells in other parts of the
body can also exhibit memory capabilities. This discovery provides a new perspective for further investigation of
memory mechanisms.
Nikolay V. Kukushkin from New York University, the lead author of the study in Nature Communications,
explains, “Learning and memory are usually linked only to brains and brain cells, but our study reveals that other
body cells can learn and form memories too.”
The research aimed to explore whether non-brain cells assist memory by using the “massed-spaced effect” —
a learning principle where information is remembered more effectively through spaced-interval study periods
compared to trying to learn everything in one long, exhausting session, better known as cramming (考前突击) for a
test.
Scientists studied two types of non-brain human cells in a lab. They exposed these cells to different chemical
signal patterns, similar to how brain cells receive neurotransmitter patterns (神经递质模式) during learning. In
response, the non-brain cells activated a “memory gene” — identical to that of the brain cells when detecting
patterns and restructuring connections for memories.
To monitor the process, the scientists engineered the non-brain cells to produce a glowing protein, which
showed when the memory gene was on or off. The results showed that these cells could distinguish repeated
chemical pulses (imitating brain neurotransmitter bursts) from simply continuous ones. When the pulses were
spaced out, the “memory gene” was turned on more strongly and for longer.
Kukushkin says, “This shows the ‘massed-spaced effect’ in action. The ability to learn from spaced repetition
第 5页/共 16页isn’t unique to brain cells; it might be a fundamental property of all cells. This discovery opens a new door for
understanding how memory works and could lead to better ways to enhance learning and treat memory problems.”
8. What is the main finding of the scientific research?
A. Brain cells are the most important for storing memories.
B. Chemical signals have no impact on cells’ memory function.
C. Cells from other body parts can also have a memory function.
D. The massed-spaced effect is only related to non-brain cells.
9. What is the massed-spaced effect?
A. We learn better by cramming all the material at once.
B. Continuous chemical pulses are more effective for memory.
C. Spaced-interval study leads to better memory of information.
D. Non-spaced study sessions ensure stronger memory.
10. What aspect of the research is discussed in Para 4&5?
A. Its challenge. B. Its highlight.
C. Its conclusion. D. Its procedure.
11. What can we infer from Kukushkin’s statement in the last paragraph?
A. The discovery has little relation to human health.
B. There is a long way to go to apply the findings to practice.
C. The massed-spaced effect is not useful for studying memory.
D. Studying non-brain cells’ memory may help treat memory issues.

ADHD is a complex disorder that goes far beyond the stereotypical image(刻板印象) of an overactive child
unable to sit still in class. It’s a lifelong condition that affects both children and adults, impacting various aspects of
daily life. While its core involves impaired(受损的) mental processes like planning, focusing, and multitasking, an
equally critical yet less recognized challenge is emotional dysregulation(失调)—the difficulty in managing and
relieving one’s emotional responses, which profoundly impacts work, relationships, and self-esteem.
The emotional experience of ADHD is often described as a rollercoaster, characterized by extreme highs and
lows that can change rapidly and unpredictably. During the “highs,” individuals may feel an intense surge of energy,
creativity, and enthusiasm. They might embark on new projects with uncontrolled optimism, feeling unbeatable and
capable of conquering the world. This state of hyper-focus and excitement can be incredibly productive, leading to
第 6页/共 16页bursts of creativity and accomplishment.
However, these peaks are often followed by equally intense “lows”. The drop into this emotional low can be
sudden and confusing. Feelings of disappointment, frustration, and self-doubt may overwhelm the individual,
leading to a sense of paralysis or hopelessness. These lows can be caused by various factors, including perceived
failures, criticism, or simply the natural decline of the initial excitement.
The impact of these emotional fluctuations on daily life and relationships can be profound. At work, the highs
might lead to bursts of productivity, while the lows can result in missed deadlines and underperformance. In
personal relationships, the intensity of emotions can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. Partners, friends, and
family members may struggle to keep up with the rapid mood changes, leading to strain in these relationships.
Understanding what ADHD feels like is an ongoing process, not just for those who have it, but for society as a
whole. By fostering greater awareness and empathy(共 鸣 ), we can create a more inclusive and supportive
environment for individuals with ADHD to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
12 What is the “rollercoaster” used to illustrate?
A. The thrill-seeking nature of ADHD patients.
B. The fast shifts between emotional extremes.
C. The physical restlessness in classroom settings.
D. The medical treatment process for ADHD.
13. What does the underlined word “fluctuations” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Extension. B. Duration.
C. Changes. D. Decreases.
14. What does the author advise people to do to help those with ADHD?
A. To develop stricter behavioral guidelines.
B. To promote medication as the primary solution.
C. To focus more research on childhood symptoms.
D. To show them more understanding and support.
15. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A personal blog.
B. A book review.
C. A Philosophy book.
第 7页/共 16页D. A Mental Health website.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
One of the best ways to immerse yourself in art as an art lover is to begin by browsing an art gallery. However,
whether it is a lack of information on the walls, the overwhelming size of the collections, or the fear that you
somehow aren’t “getting” what you are looking at, an art gallery can be potentially less friendly. ____16____
Selecting an Art Gallery Show
Selecting an exhibition could be as simple as looking in your own neighborhood or getting to know the arts
districts you are planning to visit. ____17____ Once you find some galleries to visit, check out their websites for
different shows and exhibitions. Choose a show or two that interests you or that matches what you’re looking for in
terms of a collection.
Do Some Pre-visit Research
____18____ It is always a good idea to read the exhibition description carefully to understand the scope (范围)
and scale of the show. You can also do a small amount of research about the show itself if appropriate to equip
yourself with more context.
Do a First Walk Through of the Art Gallery Space
Arriving at the gallery, you will want a viewing strategy. Instinctively (本能地), many people move through
an exhibition, reading everything in the order presented. However, walking the entire gallery space quickly will
give you an overall sense of the exhibition or show. ____19____
Have a More Focused Walk Through
Do “once around” more time to close in more on the artworks that spark your interest most. This step is
perhaps the most satisfying part of any gallery visit. It is a chance to really take in what first appeals to you.
____20____ You can look and appreciate the colors and form, or read the descriptions and lean into the context of
the artwork. What matters is that you find it interesting, eager to learn more about it.
A. How you do this is entirely up to you.
B. You can find different galleries on Google.
C. Its point is to spark your interest in what is being presented.
D. Thorough research enables you to better understand the artist and works.
E. So learning how to navigate an art gallery is a valuable skill for newcomers.
F. This will guarantee you are fully up to date on the gallery’s upcoming events.
第 8页/共 16页G Another recommendation would be to sign up for the gallery’s email newsletter.

It was a sunny morning with clear blue skies and a gentle breeze blowing through the trees in the small
neighborhood. Jack, a retired firefighter, was tending to his garden, enjoying the peace and quiet. Suddenly, crazy
barking and loud shouts broke the silence, snapping him out of his calm. Concerned, he dropped his gardening tools
and rushed towards the source of the noise. As he rounded the corner of his house, his heart sank.
There, on the roof of the neighboring house, a little girl was huddled near the edge, crying loudly. Her small
hands were clutching the edge of the wall, and her body was trembling with fear. The height was dizzying, and one
wrong move could send her falling down. Below her feet, a small kitten struggled in the tangled (缠结的) wires, its
pitiful mews (喵喵声) blending with the child’s sobs. On the ground below, a few neighbors had gathered, their
faces filled with worry. They called out to the girl, trying to calm her down and guide her toward safety. But the
girl was too terrified to move, paralyzed by the height and her panic.
Memories of his years as a firefighter and the countless rescues he’d been a part of flashed through Jack’s
mind. He knew he had the skills and the courage to help. In the chaos, someone pulled out their phone to record.
The video that would soon go viral showed Jack, his expression calm yet determined, as he quickly assessed the
situation. He noticed fresh scratches on the drainpipe where the girl had attempted to climb after her pet. He spotted
a ladder leaned up against the side of the house and, without hesitation, started to climb. Inch by inch, he made his
way up. In a heart-stopping moment, Jack reached the girl.

My View on Learning English via Short Videos
Recently, watching short videos to learn English has become popular in our school. I believe this trend is a
double-edged sword.
On the one hand, these short videos make learning fun and convenient. On the other hand, relying only on
short videos has risks. Most videos focus on isolated words or phrases without teaching grammar rules or context.
This might lead to incomplete knowledge.
So I recommend selecting high-quality educational accounts and limiting daily video time to 15 minutes.
Most importantly, combine short videos with textbook review to build a solid foundation. Let’s make the best use
of short videos to improve our English.
第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)
【47 题答案】
【答案】 Paragraph 1: Jack’s voice was soft and steady as he whispered calming words to the little girl . “It’s okay,
sweetie. I’ve got you. Let’s save your friend together.” Gently, he loosened her small hands from the tiles and
folded her in a secure embrace. With swift movements, he used his pocketknife to cut the wires trapping the kitten,
placing the trembling animal into his jacket. The girl buried her face in his shoulder and her sobs gradually sank.
With great care, he adjusted his grip and started to go down, making sure each step was steady. As they reached the
ground, the neighbors rushed forward, their cheers filling the air.
Paragraph2: The girl’s parents arrived moments later , their faces filled with relief and gratitude . They hugged
their daughter tightly, tears streaming down their faces. Turning to Jack, they thanked him over and over, their
words choked with emotion. Jack, with a warm smile, handed the kitten to the girl and said, “Next time, tell a
grown-up first—we have special tools for helping animals.” In the following days, the video of Jack’s heroic act
spread around and the local newspaper even ran a feature on him, making him an inspiration for the entire
community.
