Coming into the town of Santa Catarin a Palopó, in the highlands of Lake Atitlan
inGuatemala, the first thing you notice is the bright colors. Most of the buildings along the main
street are eye-catching, in deep blues and greens, dotted with red and yellow to form diverse
patterns and designs.
Santa Catarin a Palopo was once a sleepy town of 5,000 people, most of them dependent on
agricultural work. But as agriculture began to dry up here, poverty came. To deal with poverty and
promote economic growth through tourism, a small but creative group of laborers, artisans,
domestic workers and stay-at-home moms created the Pintando Santa CatarinaPalopo project.
The project aimed to paint all 850 homes and buildings in bright colors to change the hillside
town into a work of art. “We wanted to paint the houses with colors and figures that represent the
community,” says the project's executive director Stephany Blanco. “Families can choose designs
for their house that are representative of the family.”
One of the most representative characteristics of the region is the blue huipil, a traditional
blouse which has been worn commonly by local women since the 16th century. That deep sky blue
was chosen as the primary color for the Pintando project, with secondary colors found in the
sunsets and the nearby lake to make the design more attractive. Inspiration was also found in local
culture, symbols such as volcanoes, flowers, and the national bird ofGuatemala.
Each week, local artists, community members and tourists pick up paintbrushes to make
buildings colorful. “At first, the idea of the project was uncertain, but now you can see a
considerable difference in the town,” Melissa Whitbeck said. “The color of the buildings is
believed to improve the quality of life of the people. It uplifts the people's mood and encourages
them to be proud of their hometown.”
24. Why was the Pintando Santa Catarin a Palopo project started?
A. Because of a workforce shortage.
B. Due to the poor economic conditions.
C. Thanks to the increase in population.
D. For the old-fashioned farming ways.
25. What is the project about?
A. Building family art galleries in Guatemala.
B. Creating job opportunities for local artists.
C. Developing local tourism by selling artworks.
D. Changing the town into a cultural destination.
26. What is the inspiration of the primary color for the project?
A. The surrounding volcanoes.
B. Mayan-styled butterflies.
C. A type of traditional clothing.
D. The national bird of Guatemala.
27. What is Melissa’ s attitude towards the project?
A. Positive. B. Critical. C. Concerned. D. Doubtful.C
Recently, Big Think asked top minds from a variety of fields to comment on what the
future holds 30 years from now. The result is as follows.
It's likely that by 2050 the majority of the people in the world will live in urban(城市的)
areas, and will have a much higher average age than people today. The urban theorist
RichardFlorida thinks urbanization will reinvent the education system of the United States,
making our economy less real estate-driven(房地产驱动的) and erasing the divisions between
home and work.
And rapidly advancing technology will continue ever more rapidly. Cities of the future
won't look like“some sort of science fiction fantasy”, but it's likely that technological advances
and information overlays (VR and AR) will greatly change how we live. Self-driving cars will
make the roads safer and provide faster transport. A larger version of driverless cars and trucks
may make long-distance drivers out of date.
Some long view predictions are completely dire. Environmentalist Bill McKibben says that
if we don't make great progress in fighting global warming, it's likely that we could see
out-of-control rises in sea level, huge crop shortfalls, and wars over limited fresh water
resources.
In terms of how we will eat, Greenmarkets founder and“real food” supporter NinaPlanck
believes that there will be more small milk processing plants, and more regional food operations
and we' ll be healthier as a result. The New York Times's feature writer MarkBittman thinks that
people will eat fewer processed foods, and eat foods grown closer to where they live. And the
Anson Mills farmer Glenn Roberts thinks that more people will be aware of the“ethical(道德的)
responsibility” to grow and preserve land-raised farm systems.
28. What may happen by 2050?
A. Most people will live in cities.
B. The aging population will drop.
C. Home education will become a trend.
D. The economy will be driven by real estate.
29. What do we know about technology in the future?
A. It will give cities a science-fiction appearance.
B. It will greatly change the way people live.
C. It will lead to an increase in the number of cars.
D. It will ensure faster transport with fast cars.
30. What does the underlined word“dire” in the fourth paragraph mean?
A. Interesting. B. Vital. C. Terrible. D. Creative.
31. What does Mark Bittman think of foods in the future?
A. People will eat healthier and fresher foods.
B. Land-raised farm systems will be improved.
C. There will be more regional food operations.
D. Food supplies will become more limited than before.Artificial intelligence has persuaded many people that we need to thoroughly change
education. Now that chatbots can speedily find and bring back information and answer
complex questions, why bother memorizing historical facts or quotations? Shouldn't we
instead teach kids to think critically and solve problems and leave the above-mentioned
work to computers? This perspective suggests we can always“just google it” when
information is needed.
Yet this perspective faces strong pushback. Nonagenarian American educator E.
D.Hirsch demolished(驳倒) the argument that we can always just look things up, stating
that while internet access and AI tutors are amazing and can strengthen knowledge if used
reasonably, being able to recall facts remains crucial.
This connects to a deeper concern about outsourcing memory. In The Shallows,
NicholasCarr writes that the suggestion that we should outsource our memory to“free up”
limited space for more creative thinking is based on a misconception. Thanks to its
plasticity, the brain's long-term memory center can expand, as scientists found when
studying London taxi drivers. Carr warns:“When we start using the Web as a substitute for
personal memory, bypassing the inner processes of consolidation(巩固), we risk emptying
our minds of their riches.”
Furthermore, cognitive limitations strengthen this risk. Daisy Christodoulou, author
ofSeven Myths About Education, reminds us that our working memories can only process a
few new items at a time. So if we encounter too much new vocabulary or information, we
become overwhelmed, damaging our ability to learn. Indeed, looking things up on Google
often results in us not being able to recall it later.
But we don't need to reinvent the wheel: In an era of conspiracy(阴谋) theories and
misinformation, it's even more vital that we humans have a firm grasp of basic facts.
32. What is E. D. Hirsch's opinion on recalling facts in the AI era?
A. It is less important than critical thinking.
B. It remains essential despite technology.
C. It should be replaced by internet access.
D. It might produce inaccurate results.
33. How does the author support the main argument in the text?
A. Quoting experts.
B. Listing all AI benefits.
C. Comparing ancient vs. modern education.
D. Describing personal chatbot experiences.
34. What do Carr and Christodoulou imply about using the internet as a memory tool?
A. It promotes creative thinking capacity. B. It enhances memory consolidation.
C. It harms natural brain processes. D. It destroys reliable fact recall.35. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The End of Memorization in the AI Era
B. The Enhancement of Critical Thinking Skills
C. The Future Role of AI Tutors in Education
D. The Risks of Online Memory Outsourcing

Maybe you' re a young scientist wanting to have an influence on the world, or a more seasoned expert of
scientific study who is curious about how to get better in your job. Either way, there are several crucial steps to
develop your ability to make positive contributions to the world.
Experiment with new ideas. An important part of scientific discovery is the result of hard work and luck.
Luck has frequently played a major role in scientific discovery. 36 You never know when
experimentation and luck will collide (碰撞) to create an important discovery.
Be open to failure. You may think a scientist should be smart and skilled in mathematics. 37 Being a
scientist is 90% failure and 10% success.
Take charge of your ideas. Challenge yourself to come up with one idea related to your project a day. 38
As a scientist in a competitive field, you need to create your own opportunities by owning your ideas and working
hard to develop them further.
Practice your writing skills. 39 Try to do a little writing every day, and put your ideas or thoughts
down on page so you get into the habit of recording your ideas, which could later end up in a published paper or
in a lecture about your latest scientific theory.
40 Though hard work is necessary for you to be a remarkable scientist, it's vital to strike a balance
between professional work and personal downtime. Don't let yourself get burnt out.
A. Keep a balance between hard work and rest.
B. So, don't be afraid to play around with new ideas.
C. You will do better work if you work with someone else.
D. Create a writing process that suits you and stick to it.
E. You should be open to the solutions offered by others in the field.
F. Though some of them will be bad, many could lead to a new experiment or theory.
G. However, an important quality a good scientist should have is a willingness to fail.

I was in my room, feeling unwilling to head to the community theatre with“my brother”
Henry. He had recently been adopted by my parents and I was not in the mood for being onstage
with him.
“Kirstie, come here,” my mom called. Following her voice, I found her outside the
bathroom, holding a wet book. She gave the book a shake. “Henry’ s book was in the
bathtub.Did you put it there?” She glared at me, something she had never done before Henry
came to our home. I hadn't wet his book on purpose. Tears fell from my eyes. To make matters
worse, she promised to buy him a new copy. My heart ached. Henry was stealing my mother's
love.He was ruining my life.
Meanwhile, Henry was nearby, absorbed in working on a complicated rope knot(绳结),
something he liked to do. Why did a boy like him like doing girly work? It seemed far from
manly(有男子汉气概的).
Soon, it was time to set off to the community theatre. As Henry walked ahead of us to the
car, my mom took me aside and said in a low voice, “It will be Henry’ s first time onstage. Bekind to him, honey.” I nodded but sighed. I hadn't always found it this difficult to be kind. But
since Henry had moved in, everything felt different. The theatre used to be a special place for
my parents and me. With Henry involved, it didn't seem so special any more.
Finally, it was our stage time. My heart beat wildly. I forgot my annoyance at Henry for a
while. As we kids lined up, ready to act out our short play, I realized how loosely I had tied the
drawstring(细绳) on my skirt. Sure enough, my skirt began to drop. I could hear the audience
laughing. Even though I was wearing shorts under my skirt, I could feel my face burst into
flames. However, my hands were full. If only someone could help me out.

1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Dear Peter,
Knowing that you are interested in the smart home exhibition held last weekend, I am glad to tell you
some relevant details.
The smart home exhibition was truly fascinating. One device that particularly caught my attention was
a voice-controlled lighting system. It lets you adjust the brightness and color of your lights through simple
voice commands or a smartphone app. You can even set schedules or lighting moods for different times of
the day.
I find it both convenient and energy-efficient, enhancing home comfort and adaptability while helping
reduce electricity waste. I can definitely see such systems becoming a standard feature in homes in the
future.
Let me know if you'd like more details!

Dear Peter,
It was great to hear from you! I'm glad you' re interested in the smart home exhibition Ivisited last weekend.
The smart home exhibition was amazing and the device that impressed me the most was a smart mirror. It can
display real-time weather and news, and even provide health tips by analyzing your skin condition every morning.
I find it both highly practical and innovative—— it saves time and helps users start their day more
efficiently. Technology like this really makes everyday life smarter and more convenient.I believe it could be a
valuable addition to any modern home.
I wish I could visit an exhibition like this with you next time.

参考范文
Right then, Henry sensed my embarrassment. He rushed to me, pulled up my skirt and tied the drawstring
with a beautiful knot. Shocked by what he had done, I felt something deep in my mind begin to change. It seemed
as if his kind deeds had melted my heart. Thinking about what I had done to him, I felt ashamed of myself. While
I was lost in thought, the music took me back to reality. We edged onto the stage and started our performance. It
turned out a great success, and the audience broke into loud applause.
After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully.“Thank... you, Henry.” My
voice trembled with my face burning. I had to admit that, but for his timely help, I would have been extremely
embarrassed. Without his knotting skill, the performance would have been quite different. “We are family,” he
said, his blue eyes twinkling. Hearing his words,I was overwhelmed by a feeling of warmth so l hugged him
tightly. At the same time, I realized that it was not bad to have a new person in my corner of the world and the
theatre was still a special place for me.

Text 10 健康比时尚更重要 (第 18 题为总结题)
W: Is looking fashionable more important than being comfortable? Many people seem to think so,
observing the things they wear. But fashion is not everything. It is more important to be a
healthy and happy person.[19] People make efforts to be fashionable. Some people think they
should have a perfect body, so they go on extreme, unhealthy diets in order to change their
bodies. Besides, many women wear uncomfortable fashions, such as high-heeled shoes and
body shapers. Men and women alike spend time and money on products that change their
natural hair color. Some people spend several hours or even a whole day in front of a mirror just
to look right. But is staying fashionable really worth all that time and work? If the point of
dressing up is to feel good, shouldn't feeling healthy come first? What you wear doesn't say
anything about you personality.[20] Instead of spending hours choosing and dressing up,
perhaps you should call your friends and do something together! Instead of going on strict
diets, why not eat some healthy foods and then exercise? By doing these things, you can lead a
healthy lifestyle and truly grow as a person.
