A Gen Z train attendant in China has gained widespread praise for his creative approach to keeping
children calm and entertained during long train rides-by handing out test papers and stickers(贴画).
Qin Yunhao, who works on the G1546 high-speed train from Nanning East to Hangzhou West, brings
along a plastic bag filled with simple worksheets and colorful reward stickers every time he's on duty. Hi
s idea is simple but effective: children who become noisy during the journey are gently handed a test pap
er, and upon completing it, are rewarded with stickers. Meanwhile, children who remain quiet througho
ut the ride are given stickers directly as a form of positive reinforcement(强化).
高二 10 月英语试卷 第 4 页 共 12 页The idea, which started during the summer travel rush, has received overwhelming support from p
arents and netizens. Many praised it for turning a potentially noisy carriage(车厢)into a peaceful envi
ronment, while also giving children something meaningful to do during the journey.
The inspiration came from observing parents who brought homework for their children on board.
Wanting to help those who hadn't come prepared, Qin began printing out simple exercises to share.
This low-cost but thoughtful solution has been described as a “magical fix”, as it eases pressure
on parents, entertains young passengers, and helps maintain order in a public space. It's also seen as a re
flection of growing human-centered innovation in public service.
Qin's fellow railway staff have also adopted various child-friendly practices. Some bring picture boo
ks or small toys, others create “kids' kits” with puzzles and gamnes. On certain trains, a children's activ
ity area has even been set up in the dining car. Railway staff also encourage parents to prepare entertain
ment in advance-such as downloading cartoons or bringing educational games-to help children enjoy the
ride calmly and constructively.
Balancing children's natural liveliness with public order is no easy task. But initiatives like this show
that thoughtful, human-centered solutions can go a long way toward creating more harmonious public s
paces.
24.What does Qin Yunhao do to keep children quiet on the train?
A. He sets up activity areas. B.He provides books and toys.
C. He gives out test papers and stickers. D.He downloads cartoons and games.
25.What made Qin Yunhao decide to hand out worksheets?
A. He hoped to make the summer rush more fun.
B.He wanted to protect children's natural liveliness.
C. He was required to create more harmonious public areas.
D. He saw some parents unprepared for their kids' homework.
26. What do people think of Qin Yunhao's solution?
A. It fits the summer rush. B.It is expensive but effective.
C.It makes carriages peaceful. D. It puts pressure on parents and kids.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.Railway Activities for Kids. B.Ways to Play with Kids on Trains.
C.Harmonious Summer Travel. D.A Train Attendant's Idea to Calm Kids.
高二 10 月英语试卷 第 5 页 共 12 页C
Pause for a moment and gaze into the eyes of your dog. Do you feel overwhelmed by how cute
they are? Or, perhaps, a desire to squeeze(揉捏)them? Now think about your habits.
Do you send them to daycare, dress them up in clothes, and bring them on vacations? Do you speak
to them like a baby?
If so,you're not alone-after all, research shows our brains essentially respond in the same way t
o pet dogsas they do to human children. Our brains weren't always wired this way, but as we domes
ticated(驯化)dogs, they developed human-like social and cognitive abilities. They started to act
and even look like babies-and our brains began to view them as such.
That's why Zachary Silver, the director of the Canine Cognition Lab at Occidental College, isn't a
tall surprised people feel so strongly about their four-legged friends-in fact,to him, it would be odd if
they didn't. "The dogs of today have been carefully selected over thousands of years to be kind and
affectionate(温顺亲人的).”he says. So,if you've ever been laughed at for treating your dog
like your actual human child, just know there are 20,000 to 40,000 years of evolution causing you t
o behave this way.
Here's how this powerful neurobiological(神经生物学的)response makes us love, trust,
and care for our dogs. Your brain really does view your dog as a child.
Alison LaCoss, a mother of three, says the moment she gave birth to her kids, she felt an overw
helming desire to love them and keep them safe. LaCoss's behavior isn't abnormal-and a brain imagi
ng study conducted in 2014 provides some important clues as to why. To figure out what causes peo
ple to feel so intensely about their dogs, researchers from Harvard University invited a small group o
f mothers who had least one child between the ages of 2 to 10 and a dog they had owned for at leas
t two years. The moms went into MRI machines and looked at various images of dogs and kids-some
their own,and some not.
The researchers found a significant overlap between the emotional experience of the mothe
r-child relationship and the mother-dog relationship. The amygdala, a brain area that drives bond fo
rmation and reward, lit up when the women looked at pictures of their child and their dog.

“You know when you walk past a parked car on a hot day and feel the heat it gives off ?" says M
árcia Matias at the University of Lisbon in Portugal. "That's real! It's not your imagination.”
Dark-coloured cars can make a measurable difference on nearby air temperature, as they absorb
(吸收)and emit(排放)more heat than lighter vehicles when sitting on the street or in a parkin
g lot.The collective impact from hundreds of thousands or millions of cars in cities could significantly i
nfluence urban heat island effects, and even increase heat stress for passers-by during sunny days.
Matias and her colleagues measured the air temperature around two cars-one black and one whi
te-parked outside for more than1 5 hours during daylight. Their measurements showed the black car r
aised the surrounding air temperature by as much as 3.8°C compared to the nearby asphalt(沥青)
under a clear and sunny summer sky with temperatures of 36°C. Meanwhile, the white car had muc
h smaller impacts on the surrounding air temperature.
The reason for such temperature differences is white vehicle paint reflects between 75 and 85pe
rcent of incoming sunlight, while black paint absorbs most incoming sunlight, reflecting just 5 to 10per
cent.A car's thin dark skin can heat up quickly under strong sunlight, unlike even very dark asphalt
高二 10 月英语试卷 第 7 页 共 12 页that is thicker and warms more slowly. "Now picture thousands of cars parked across a city, eac
h one acting like a little heat source," says Matias."Their colour can actually shift how hot the str
eets feel."
The researchers calculated repainting parked cars from dark to lighter colours could create c
ooler surfaces and lower near-surface air temperatures on sunny, low wind days. Using the city
of Lisbon as an example, the change could effectively raise street-level reflectance(反射率)
of incoming sunlight from just 20 percent to nearly 40 percent in areas where parked cars cover
more than 10 percent of the road.
“Making use of light-coloured vehicles to relieve urban heat is particularly novel", says Sar
ah Berk at the University of North Carolina. Previous studies have focused on improving roofs an
d pavement to reflect more sunlight.
32.Why do dark cars impact nearby air temperature more greatly?
A.Because they are in larger numbers.
B. Because more heat is trapped by them.
C.Because more sunlight is reflected by them.
D. Because they have been parked for longer time.
33.How did Matias conduct the research?
A. By analyzing the previous data.
B.By changing the incoming sunlight.
C.By tracking the change in temperature.
D.By comparing the thickness of car paint.
34.Which statement will the researchers probably agree with?
A. Dark asphalt heats up faster than dark cars.
B. Lighter paint on cars can cool down the streets.
C.Vehicle color has little impact on urban temperatures.
D.The reflectance of sunlight is mainly controlled by building materials.
35.What's Sara Berk's attitude towards Matias's research?
A.Positive. B.Critical. C.Worried. D.Uninterested.

Ways to Manage Your Results Day Worries
With results day just around the corner, it's normal for anxiety to start creeping in. To help you
高二 10 月英语试卷 第 8 页 共 12 页get through it, I've put together some best tips for managing those resuIts day worries (tried and te
sted).
Journal your worries away.
Get those feelings out! It's bittersweet to look back something you will probably experience in
the future too. Just let it all out in one big word rush and don't worry about spelling or grammar-no
one else will see this! 36 Writing your train-of-thought is a good way to let go of anxiety.
37
Take advantage of the nice weather (so long as it's not too hot!) and get some fresh air. Go on
walks to the beach, or into town, see friends and just focus on making the most of your summer. St
aying in your room can make your anxiety worse.
Treat yourself.
Use the rest of your time before results day to treat yourself to something special. 38 Givin
g yourself treats (big or small) is a way to remind yourself that whatever grades you get, you still ma
tter.
Do what you can.
When I was stressed about results day, I had tunnel vision. I could only focus on the things I coul
dn't control-like grades, or what I was going to do if I didn't get into my first choice university. But wo
rrying about things that have already happened wasn't helpful because they were out of my control.
39
Talk to people.
40 Reach out to them and see how they feel. That being said, make sure you talk to the rig
ht people. If you know some of your friends will start panicking and make your anxiety worse, avoid
bringing up your fears with them.
We all get worried when there's a big event coming up. But remember-nothing has actually hap
pened yet.You might even be pleasantly surprised. Good luck-you've got this!
A. Step outside.
B. Go for a walk.
C. Don't stop writing until it's all out.
D. Your friends are probably in the same boat.
E. So I focused my energy on what I could control.
F. There is nothing better than having good friends.
G. After all, you worked hard and sat all thoseexams.

14-year-old Clara frowned at the old and worn-out knitting bag(编织袋)on her desk-its o

mer.
Grandma had taught her to knit a scarf then. “Wrap the yarn(绕线)around your finger li
ke this,”Grandma had said, her twisted and rough hands guiding Clara's. But Clara stopped the
project after pricking(扎)her finger twice-one small wound on her index finger, which still ha
d a faint white scar-and stuffed(塞进)the half-finished scarf into the knitting bag. The yarn, a
soft cream color Grandma had picked because “it matches your smile,” was now tangled like a
bird's nest inside.“It's useless,”Clara sighed, putting the bag into her closet.
That afternoon, Clara's mom mentioned Grandma had been ill with a cough, too weak to vis
it for Christmas.Clara's throat tightened-Grandma had talked about seeing the scarf she'd promise
d to finish, saying,“I'll wwear it to watch you sing in the Christmas concert." After dinner, she dug
out the knitting bag, and a crumpled note fell out, written in Grandma's handwriting:“Dear Clara,
knitting's not about being perfect. It's about tying love into every stitch(针脚).”Her fingers
brushed the soft yarn, suddenly heavy with regret.
At school the next day, Clara noticed her classmate Lina knitting something after class. When
Clara approached her curiously, she smiled,"My mom knits sweaters for homeless kids at the co
