Osei Boateng, who grew up in a small village in southern Ghana, watched many of his family members and neighbors
struggle to access basic health care. In many regions of the country, people spend hours getting to the nearest hospital.
Driven by a strong sense of urgency to lend a hand, Boateng established his non- profit organization, the OKB Hope
Foundation. In 2021, he turned a van into a mobile doctor’s office and started bringing health care directly to those in need.
A few times a week, the mobile clinic and medical team travel long distances to remote communities in Ghana and provide
free routine medical care. In the van, they can run basic labs like bloodwork as well as provide medications.
Since it was established, the mobile clinic has served more than 4,000 citizens across more than 45 rural communities who
otherwise don’t have easily accessible medical care and has got much praise. “I am very impressed by the service they provide,
and that is the best chance for us rural people to get the treatment we want,” said Abraham, one of Boateng’s neighbors.
Boateng’s organization has also trained 20 volunteers to serve as local health advocates. They check people’s vital signs,
such as blood pressure and glucose (葡萄糖) levels, and provide the medical team with timely data for assessing how to move
forward with care and treatment, especially for those whose health is at risk.
In the future, Boateng wants to broaden the reach of his efforts to deliver medical services, not only to Ghana’s remote
regions but also to other nations across the globe. “I believe that our model can be copied in Sub-Saharan Africa,” he said. “So,
the goal is to really develop strategic partnerships and get additional mobile health vans for the communities or the regions that
we want to serve.”
24.What motivated Boateng to launch the OKB Hope Foundation?
A.The dream of impressing his family members and neighbors.
B.The hope of creating jobs for medical professionals in Ghana.
C.The barrier to basic health care in his community.
D.The drive to raise people’s awareness of health.
25.Why does the author mention Abraham in paragraph 4?
A.To show the mobile clinic has served many people.
B.To imply the positive impact of the mobile clinic.
C.To judge the service provided by the mobile clinic.

A.They assist patients to get their medicine.
B.They help the doctors to analyze data.
C.They keep the medical facilities in good condition.
D.They examine the patients before further treatment.
27.What is Boateng’s long- term vision for the OKB Hope Foundation?
A.To expand the mobile clinic service beyond his country.
B.To work with other nations to promote his organization.
C.To establish a national health insurance system in Ghana.
D.To build a large hospital in every rural community in Ghana.

Shanghai scientists have devised a new material that can be used to develop two-dimensional, low-power-consumption
computer chips, which may significantly improve their energy efficiency and have important meanings for smartphone battery
endurance.
Low-power consumption, high-performance chips based on the material will also support the sustainable development of
5G, artificial intelligence, the internet of things and other fields, and promote the popularization of the next generation of smart
devices, the researchers said.
As electronic devices become smaller and more powerful, the number of transistors continues to increase even as the chips
themselves become smaller.
Experts explained that when the thickness of conventional silicon-based transistor materials is reduced to the nanometer
level, their insulating property (绝缘性能) is significantly reduced, resulting in current leakage. This not only increases the chip’s
energy consumption, but also causes heat generation to increase, affecting the stability and service life of a device.
To solve the problem, a team of scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and
Information Technology developed an innovative metal intercalation oxidation technology and used it to form a sapphire crystal
dielectric, which is used in the development of 2D low-power chips with high performance.
Di Zengfeng, leading researcher on the team, said the core of the technology lies in the ability to precisely control oxygen
atoms so that they can be embedded in a crystal lattice of aluminum layer by layer at room temperature to form an orderly single
crystal alumina dielectric material — sapphire.
Conventional alumina materials often exhibit a disordered structure, which can lead to a significant decrease in their
insulating property in very thin layers. However, a single-crystal sapphire structure results in its higher electron mobility and
lower current leakage, Di said.
“The orderly placement of the material at the microscopic level ensures the stability of the electrons during transport,
making it possible to prevent current leakage even at a thickness of only 1 nanometer, thus significantly improving the energy
efficiency of the chips,” he said.
28.What can the new material be used for?

29.What is the problem with the traditional materials?
A.They can not be processed into the nanometer level.
B.They function less efficiently in very thin layers.
C.They are too thick to be employed.
D.They are not stable enough.
30.What is the key to developing the new material?
A.To reduce the thickness. B.To control the temperature.
C.To keep control of oxygen atoms. D.To decrease the insulating property.
31.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Revolution in Chip Manufacture
B.Next Generation of Smart Devices

Here’s a quick quiz. Person A does a favor for you. Person B asks you to do a favor for him. Who do you tend to like
more? Surprisingly, the answer is Person B.This quirk (怪癖) of human nature is known as the Ben Franklin Effect.
Benjamin Franklin came across the phenomenon in 1736 when serving as a clerk to the Pennsylvania Assembly. A
powerful member didn’t care for Franklin and threatened to make life miserable for him. What to do? Instead of winning him over
with sweet talk, Franklin asked if he could borrow a rare and valuable book the man owned. This request altered the man’s
attitude and paved the way for their friendship. Franklin’s takeaway: “He that has once done you a kindness will be ready to do
you another, than he whom you yourself have obliged.”
Several studies have confirmed this. But how can we explain the Ben Franklin Effect? Some psychologists refer to
cognitive dissonance (失调). It’s difficult to hold two contradictory thoughts at the same time. It makes us uncomfortable. We
resolve this tension by changing our mind. “I don’t like Joe, but I am doing him a favor,” we might think. “So maybe I do like
him.”
While cognitive dissonance explains a lot, it alone doesn’t explain the Ben Franklin Effect. One 2015 study found that it
was, rather, the affiliative (亲和的) motive that the requests convey. That is, we humans want to maintain good relations with
other humans, and one way to achieve this is by doing favors for others. This explains a lot about altruistic behavior. We like
being useful and, by extension, we like those who give us the opportunity to do so. It’s in our genes.
思思想政治 英语试题(萍实版)第6页 共10页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司Yet there is much we still don’t know about the Ben Franklin Effect. Does it apply equally across cultures? Is there a point
beyond which asking a favor makes you less, not more likable? Asking to borrow a book is one thing; asking to borrow a car is
another.
32.Why does the author mention Benjamin Franklin’s experience?
A.To illustrate a dilemma in making choices. B.To suggest a way of striking up friendships.
C.To stress the importance of strategic requests. D.To introduce the origin of the Ben Franklin Effect.
33.What is a reason for people’s tendency to like those asking for favors?
A.Reducing the tension caused by social contact.
B.Increasing the chance of getting help in return.
C.Avoiding the discomfort from conflicting thoughts.
D.Establishing a cooperative community of shared trust.
34.What does the underlined word “altruistic” probably mean in paragraph 4?
A.Selfless. B.Impolite. C.Aggressive. D.Responsible.
35.What does the author think of the Ben Franklin Effect?
A.It makes little sense. B.It applies to most cultures.
C.It has situational limitations. D.It has great practical significance.

Anyone with a story to tell can write a book, either for their own enjoyment or to publish for all to see. But how to create a
great story?
Start with a big, engaging idea.
Whether you’re writing fiction or nonfiction, you need a concept that will hold your fascination throughout the long
process of writing and editing, and that will also engage your readers. 36 . Write them down, chew them over, and figure out
which one you’ re most passionate about.
Research your big idea to build your expertise (专业知识).
If you’re writing a nonfiction book, you’ll obviously need to deeply research your subject matter in order to write about it
effectively and authentically. 37 . For instance, if you’ re writing a crime drama, you might do research into how the police
typically investigate crimes of the type you’ re depicting.
38 .
If your focus each day is to write about the American Civil War, you may become paralyzed by the immensity of the task.
Instead, divide up your larger concept into smaller components that feel more manageable to tackle. For instance, instead of
思思想政治 英语试题(萍实版)第7页 共10页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司thinking “I need to write about the Civil War,” you might tell yourself, “I’m going to write about General Grant’s military
strategy today.”
Develop at least one unforgettable character.
Build one or more characters who are complex and rounded, not one- note “heroes” or “villains”. Think about some of
your favorite characters from books you love. Write down their character traits and use these to help build your own unique
characters. 39 .
Emphasize conflict and tension in your narrative.
Introduce challenges and obstacles in your book. 40 . The conflict and tension can be both external and internal. Make
it hard for your readers to put the book down!
A.Establish daily and weekly writing goals
B.Break your big idea into manageable pieces
C.Brainstorm themes, topics, or ideas that appeal to you
D.To drive your narrative, you should focus on developing a“ big idea”
E.Lead your characters through ups and downs to highlight such tension
F.Even fictional works, though, should be grounded in some degree of reality
G.Your readers may identify with them and care about what happens to them

It was late, about 10:15 p.m. when Janice Esposito safely arrived at the Bellport, New York, train station; she happily
jumped into her little car, and couldn’t wait to begin the 20-minute drive home to see her loved husband and seven-year-old son.
She had just returned from visiting her older mother in Los Angles and had traveled the route many times before. She drove on
autopilot(自动驾驶) practically and skillfully: a left onto Station Road, then a left on Montauk Highway, and then suddenly—
wham!
Out of nowhere on that awful night a truck hit Janice’s car, violently pushing her to move backward some 100 feet away
onto the railroad tracks. She sat in the car, bruised(撞伤) but mostly just knocked out by the impact and by the vehicle’s airbags.
As it happened, Pete DiPinto was getting ready for bed. He’d just closed his book, turned off the light and was lazily
crawling under the covers when he heard the high-pitched clang sound of metal on metal and breaking glass coming from not far
outside his bedroom window. As a volunteer firefighter and retired teacher, DiPinto, 64, instantly became alert and never stopped
to think. He quickly grabbed a big professional flashlight out of habit, put his own cellphone in the pocket of his pajamas(睡衣),
and hurriedly ran out the door without getting changed. “Any firefighter would have done what I did,” he later told Newsday.
“We’re always on duty.”
The first truck DiPinto came upon, 2,000 feet away from his front yard, was the one that had hit Janice, who was trapped in
her car still, her eyes closed and her mind semiconscious. He looked around and spotted one wheel of Janice’s car positioned on
the railroad tracks.
