If you want your life to stand for peace and kindness, it’s helpful to do kind, peaceful things. One of my
favorite ways to do this is by developing my own helping actions. These little acts of kindness are opportunities to
be of service and reminders of how good it feels to be kind and helpful.
We live in a rural area of the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of what we see is beauty of nature. One of the
exceptions to the beauty is the litter that some people throw out of their windows as they are driving on the rural
roads. One of the few shortcomings to live in the mountainous area is that public services, such as litter
collection, are less available than those are closer to the city.
A helping action that I practice regularly with my two children is picking up litter in our surrounding area.
We’ve become so used to doing this that my daughters will often say to me in excited voices, “There’s some
litter, Daddy, stop the car! ” And if we have time, we will often pull over and pick it up. It may seem strange,
but we actually enjoy it. We pick up litter in parks, on sidewalks, practically anywhere. Once I even saw a
complete stranger picking up litter close to where we live. He smiled at me and said, “I saw you doing it, and it
seemed like a good idea. ”
Picking up litter is only one of endless supplies of possible helping actions. You might like holding a door
open for people, visiting lonely elderly people in nursing homes, or removing snow off someone else’s
driveway. Think of something that seems effortless yet helpful. It’s fun, personally rewarding, and sets a good
example. Everyone wins.
24. What does the author think of developing helping actions?A. It helps us to be winners.
B. It is very difficult.
C. It requires lots of effort.
D. It makes us feel good about ourselves.
25. What do we know about the area where the author lives?
A. It’s in the center of San Francisco.
B. People can see beautiful sceneries here.
C. It’s very easy to find litter collection.
D. Few people drive on the rural roads.
26. How does the author support his own opinion?
A. By sharing his own experience.
B. By listing reasons for giving help.
C. By explaining different methods to be helpful.
D. By making a comparison with others.
27. What does the author mainly want to tell us?
A. Parents are the best teachers to their children.
B. Everyone should set good examples to others.
C. Small kind acts make the world a better place.
D. Protecting the environment will benefit all of us.
C
The 2019-nCoV outbreak has greatly affected the lives of people across the world. It has challenged and
changed people’s lifestyles. It has also helped us think about our relationships with others.
Changing our lives
COVID-19 has made people think harder about their relationship with nature. It has also raised questions
about urban lifestyles. The sharing economy, working in open offices, living in crowded apartments and the
food industry’s use of reusable products have made the perfect storm for a pandemic.
Although the sharing economy might be good— it’s cheaper to rent than to own — sharing spaces and objects
are great ways to spread the virus. How does one do “social distancing” when they are expected to share cars,
bikes, apartments and even the same offices?
The trend of using open offices, which can save space, is working against us. In this type of office,
workers don’t have their own desk—everything is shared. Sometimes, computers and chairs are also shared, which is not hygienic (卫生的). Fortunately, more workers are working from home during the pandemic, but
that won’t last forever.
④Reusability is a common practice in the restaurant industry. Reusable cups and chopsticks are often used.
Unfortunately, reusable products increase the chance of spreading disease. For example, Starbucks recently
stopped refilling customers’ reusable cups in order to stop the spread of the virus.
⑤People like to be social. But the virus has made this more dangerous. We have to be careful about how we
interact with others for now. Perhaps we need to rethink about our lifestyles to reduce the spread of future
pandemics.
28. According to the author, the strong point of the sharing economy is that .
A. it lasts longer B. it costs less
C. it’s popular D. it’s hygienic
29. Paragraph 4 is mainly about .
A. how working at home won’t last long
B. how shared offices can save space
C. the hygienic problems of open offices
D. the sharing economy trend
30. According to the author, restaurants can spread the virus easily because .
A. everything is shared in many restaurants
B. they use too much disposable tableware
C. many restaurants have poor hygiene
D. cups and chopsticks are often reused
31. The author probably agrees that .
A. we need to change some of our lifestyles
B. the sharing economy won’t last forever
C. no one can stay out of the sharing economy
D. we shouldn’t stay away from shared products
D
Your glasses may someday replace your smartphone, and some New Yorkers are ready for the switch. Some
in the city can’t wait to try them on and use the maps and GPS that the futuristic eyewear is likely to include.
“ I’d use it if I were hanging out with friends at 3 a. m. and going to the bar and wanted to see what was
open, ” said Walter Choo, 40, of Fort Greene.“The smartphone-like glasses will likely come out this year and cost between $250 and $600, ” the Times
said, “Possibly including a variation of augmented(增强的) reality, a technology already available on
smartphones and tablets (平板电脑) that overlays information onto the screen about one’s surroundings. ”So, for

directions could be plotted out and come into view right on the sidewalk in front of you.
“ As far as a mainstream consumer product, this just isn’t something anybody needs, ” said Sam Biddle,
who writes for Gizmodo. com. “ We’re accustomed to having one thing in our pocket to do all these things, ” he
added, “and the average consumer isn’t gonna be able to afford another device (装置) that’s hundreds of dollars.
”
Google publisher Seth Weintraub, who has been reporting on the smartphone-like glasses since late last year,
said he is confident that this type of wearable device will eventually be as common as smartphones.
“It’s just like smartphones 10 years ago, ” Weintraub said. “A few people started getting emails on their
phones, and people thought that was crazy. Same kind of thing. We see people bending their heads to look at their
smartphones, and it’s unnatural, ” he said. “ There’s gonna be improvements to that, and this a step there. ”
32. One of the possible functions of the smartphone-like glasses is to .
A. program the opening hours of a bar
B. supply you with a picture of the future
C. provide information about your surroundings
D. update the maps and GPS in your smartphones
33. The underlined phrase “pop up” in the third paragraph probably means “ ”.
A. develop rapidly
B. get round quickly
C. appear immediately
D. go over automatically
34. According to Sam Biddle, the smartphone-like glasses are .
A. necessary for teenagers
B. attractive to New Yorkers
C. available to people worldwide
D. expensive for average consumers
35. We can learn from the last two paragraphs that the smartphone-like glasses .
A. may have a potential marketB. are as common as smartphones

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We were three thousand miles away from home on a Random Acts of Kindness and Volunteerism Road Trip.
We were short of money, so we had two goals today:
1. Try out our new “Smile! ” signs and see how much kindness and joy we could spread in Pike Place Market.
2. Raise at least $80 by doing street performances. Singing, drawing or storytelling. This would be enough
for gas to Portland and a small hotel room.
We weren’t sure how people would react to our signs. It’s so easy to walk past a busy crowd, lost in your
own world, refusing to make eye-contact with strangers, and feeling alone despite being surrounded by
hundreds of people just like you. Finally, I gathered courage to raise our signs and shouted, “Hi here! ” to ayoung couple. They looked over, confused for a moment, read my sign and broke into smiles. Then we saw more
smiling faces in the crowd.
Before long, our signs were wildly popular. Tourists wanted to take photos with us. Strangers stopped to ask
us about our signs. We told them the story of our acts of kindness road trip and listened to their stories, too.
Sometimes I’d see unfriendly faces and feel particularly nervous to show them my bright sign. But I was
always rewarded with a big smile whenever I did so. Suddenly they were no longer faces of strangers but those of
neighbors and friends. This world is full of good people we just don’t know yet. We got so wrapped up in our
wonderful “Smile! ” project that we forgot the other goal. Before we knew it, the sun was setting, and we had no
money for our trip to Portland.
注意: 续写词数应为150左右。
We sat down to watch a musician play the guitar while we thought about our second
goal._________________________________________________________

to save those patients suffering from the virus. He was so loved by the whole nation that some people said,
“When will we go out? If Zhong Nanshan asks us to go out, we will go out! ”

【参考范文】We sat down to watch a musician play the guitar while we thought about our second goal. It seemed that it was
tough to achieve. Now we didn’t have much time to lose. Suddenly, a good idea flashed through my mind. I
gathered my courage and walked straight toward the musician and asked him to do us a favor. To our great delight,
he enthusiastically supported our money project and agreed to form a band with us. With an empty hat on the
ground in front of us, we began our performance.
Our little band of five attracted a large audience. We received a storm of applause. A gentleman in his fifties
was the first to put some change into our hat. His act of kindness was soon followed by more donations. A little
boy, holding his mom’s hand, carefully dropped a coin and gave us the most beautiful smile in the world.
Before it was dark, we were sure we had made it. The amount of money gathered totaled $92. What a sweet
victory! We thanked the musician and went on with our journey. In the depth of my heart, I would keep these
heart-warming moments forever.
