Task 1 Read Aloud
In this task, you are to read aloud a short passage. You will have 45
seconds to go over the passage and 1 minute to read it aloud. Now here
is the passage.

People celebrate birthdays to honor their birth and the beginning of a
new year in their lives. The custom of celebrating birthdays began in
ancient times but was not widespread until the turn of the 19th century.
At that time, the perception of children was becoming more positive,
and it became customary to celebrate with parties and customs like
clapping for good luck or blowing out candles on a cake. The Romans are
considered to be the first people to have celebrated birthdays, but they
only celebrated men’s birthdays. There are no records of women’s
birthday celebrations until more than a millennium later. The tradition of
putting candles on cakes originated in Roman times, as the Romans
made cakes with candles to honor their moon god.

Talk about the roleof music in people's life.
Nowadays, almost everyone listens to music everyday. I think music plays
an important role in our daily life. I have the following reasons.
To begin with, it can help release the pressure. I feel extremely relaxed
when listening to the songs that I like, and very often I would sing along
and dance to them.
Besides, it can make people feel happy. You know, people feel a sense of
happiness when they listen to their favorite singers. For example, I'm a
big fan of Westlife. Every time I hear them singing, it reminds me of
those happy old days when I was a teenager.Last but not least, I can learn a lot from it, because some songs are
educational. People get to know different cultures when listening to
music from other countries.
