For decades, Chinese players have dominated the world of table tennis on the word stage. Table
tennis stars have shone brightly for generations. And now it’s time for Generation Z youngsters to
impress.
Sun Yingsha, born in 2000, has been given the nickname “Little Devil” by her fans. When she was
little, Sun was sensitive to the sound of a table tennis ball hitting the ground. Her parents noticed her
interest and encouraged her to give the sport a try. After a few days of training, she found that she
really enjoyed it. “I felt I had some talent,” she told China Daily. When Sun first joined the reserve
squad (预备队) of the national table tennis team, she was excited and inspired. Becoming a world top
player like her idol Zhang Yining has always been her dream.
However, there have been setbacks along the way. She took part in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021,
and it was there that she faced significant losses. “I was not well-rounded enough to win the gold

from them.” Since the Tokyo Olympics, she has also experienced many other defeats. “Determination
and courage can make a good athlete,” she said. “What keeps me going are the goals and dreams I set
for myself.”
At the 2023 Singapore Smash, Sun won the women’s singles, the women’s doubles and the mixed
doubles, becoming the first athlete to pocket three gold medals at the tournament. Looking at the world
ranking website, you can see Sun’s name at the top of the women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed
doubles.
After competing with strong players from other countries, Sun is delighted to see that table tennis
has a bright future. “They also urge me to improve,” she said. When talking about younger table tennis

Two recent large-scale studies suggest that eating ultraprocessed foods (超加工食品) may increase age-
related cognitive (认知的) decline and increase the risk of developing dementia (痴呆).
In a December 2022 study, researchers compared the rate of cognitive decline over approximately 8 years
between groups of people that consumed different amounts of ultraprocessed foods. Those who ate a diet
containing more ultraprocessed foods at the start of the study showed slightly more cognitive decline compared
with those eating little to no ultraprocessed foods. The second study measured the association between eating
ultraprocessed foods and dementia. For the group eating the highest amount of ultraprocessed foods, approximately
1 out of 120 people were diagnosed with dementia over a 10-year period. For the group that consumed little to no
ultraprocessed foods, this number was 1 out of 170.
Many ultraprocessed foods are high in additives (添加剂), preservatives or coloring agents, while also
having other features of an unhealthy diet such as being low in fiber and nutrients. Ultraprocessed foods tend to be
lower in nutrients and fiber and higher in sugar, fat and salt compared to unprocessed or little processed foods.
Some examples of ultraprocessed foods include soda, packaged cookies, chips, frozen meals, flavored nuts,
flavored yogurt and fast foods.
Figuring out the specific effects of individual foods on the human body is difficult, in part because maintaining
strict control over people’s diets to study them over long periods of time is problematic. So far, most nutritional
studies, including these two, have only shown connections between ultraprocessed foods consumption and health.
But they cannot rule out other lifestyle factors such as exercise, education, socio-economic status, social
connections, stress and many more variables (变量) that may influence cognitive function.
28.What is the finding of the study?
A.Ultraprocessed foods have no effect on cognitive decline.
B.People eating more ultraprocessed foods have more cognitive decline.
C.Ultraprocessed foods tend to be lower in nutrients and fiber.
D.Ultraprocessed foods have little impact on curing dementia.
29.How did the researchers conduct their study?
A.By making a comparison. B.By referring to previous studies.
C.By giving examples. D.By analyzing data.
30.Which of the following is an example of ultraprocessed food?
A.Fresh fruits. B.Uncooked vegetables.
C.Packaged cookies. D.Boiled eggs.
31.What is talked about in the last paragraph?
A.Different varieties of ultraprocessed foods.
B.Specific examples of the influences of ultraprocessed foods.
C.Limitations in studying food effects on human body.
D.Future methods of studying ultraprocessed foods.
DDuring the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Google made public an Olympic-themed advertisement to
promote its Gemini AI chatbot. Surprisingly, the ad caused heated criticism, leading Google to remove it a
week after its release.
The advertisement showed a father using Google’s Gemini AI chatbot to help his daughter write a fan
letter to US Olympic track star Sydney Maclaughlin-Levrone. In the advertisement, the father believes AI
will do a better job than himself, “She wants to show Sydney some love and I am pretty good with words.
But this has to be just right.”
However, this idea didn’t win other viewers. “This description of the advertisement is misleading. As it
overestimates AI’s ability to understand and convey nuances (细微差别) of human emotions and thoughts.”
wrote Shelly Palmer, a media professor at Syracuse University in the US, in a blog post. “Who wants an
AI-written fan letter?” one viewer added. Viewers also expressed concern that too much reliance (依赖) on AI
tools could ruin children’s learning opportunities.
“Instead of guiding her to use her own words and communicate authentically (真正地), the father is teaching
her to rely on AI for this critical human skill.” said Palmer. Palmer stressed that our use of language deeply
shapes our reality. For example, you or I might refer to a color as “red”, but that same color might be labeled
“scarlet” by an artist or “dark rose” by a designer. Language not only communicates information but also reflects
the speaker’s unique perspective. Google seems to suggest that this young girl doesn’t need to develop her own
ability to express and shape her reality, according to Palmer.
The use of generative AI also lacks the emotional depth that comes from personal expression. Palmer once
received a message from a reader years ago that read: “You’re too stupid to own a smartphone.” He loved this
humorously sarcastic (讽刺的) email so much that he had it hung on his office wall. “It was honest, direct and
probably accurate,” he said, “Give me a heartfelt message rather than a grammatically correct, AI generated
message any day.”
32.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Google’s Olympic-themed advertisement for Gemini AI chatbot received criticism.
B.Google’s Gemini AI chatbot was very popular during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
C.AI-written fan letters are better than those written by humans.
D.People should rely more on AI tools.
33.According to the passage, why did viewers criticize the advertisement?
A.Because it showed a father who was not good with words.
B.Because it underestimated AI’s ability to understand human emotions.
C.Because it overestimated AI’s ability to convey nuances of human emotions and thoughts.
D.Because it encouraged children to use smartphones too much.
34.What does the underlined word “perspective” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Experience. B.Achievement. C.Viewpoint. D.Target.
35.What is Shelly Palmer’s attitude towards AI-generated messages?
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Neutral. D.Indifferent.

Embrace your creativity.
We are all able to produce something that is both original and of value to the world. 40 We
are not talking about being artistic, which is one form of creativity. We are talking about tapping into the

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My family has collected bottles from sunup to sundown all year long. My mother leaves at dawn to collect
cans. And when she returns 12 hours later, I help her pull the shopping cart the six long blocks to the recycling
center through the street of Bushwick. Although this center has been like my second home for the past years, I
have kept it mostly a secret. I couldn’t bear the idea of my friends knowing our family survived on other
people’s garbage. What if they laughed at me? I felt guilty for being embarrassed, but I couldn’t help it. Even
though I had a lot of friends and was a social butterfly, I was not ready to trust someone else. Then in the summer before my senior year, I took a college essay course. The essay prompt was: “Recall a
time when you faced a challenge, setbacks or failure. How did it affect you? And what did you learn from this
experience?” I chose to write about the impact my neighborhood’s gentrification (贵族化) had on me, and how
that led me to volunteer with officials in my community who were trying to find it. At the end, there was just one
sentence about can collecting.
One day after class, my teacher asked me to discuss my draft. “Your story has potential. However, it is not
about personal growth. How about you telling me about the can collecting?” So I was faced with sharing my
secret. But he was my teacher, and I trusted him so I rewrote the essay.
Two days later, I found out we were expected to read our essay loud after lunch! How could that
be? I have kept the secret for so many years and reading my essay in the class meant that all I had
done was in vain. I was ashamed for my peers to know.
As I headed to the cafeteria, I met up with a friend, Mason, who I always had lunch with.
When we got back to class, I felt ready to read my draft out aloud.
