His character in the movie finds an abandoned baby on the street and takes him home. These two are both a family and a team, held close by genuine joy in one another's company. When they're torn apart, it's heartbreaking; when they're reunited, it restores our faith in the order of the universe. Like many of Chaplin's projects, the production of the film was full of humor. Bicycle Thieves There are few greater filmwatching experiences than Bicycle Thieves. On Antonio's first day of work, his bicycle is stolen, and he and his young son Bruno set out to get it back, a quest of desperation and need that at first strengthens the fatherson bond, before nearly tearing it apart. What is even more impressive is that the director used no studio sets—all of the settings are reallife locations in Rome. The Night of the Shooting Stars The movie, set in Tuscany, follows a group of citizens who leave their village just before their houses are set to be blown up by the Nazis(纳粹). The story is told through the eyes of sixyearold Cecilia, who sees the event as a great adventure. The movie is a mixture of comedy, fantasy and sorrowful drama. Let There Be Light It is a deeply moving documentary that describes, specifically, the effects of wartime trauma(创伤) on soldiers but also, more generally, the way men who have never been encouraged to talk about their feelings must find a way to do so in order to heal. 21.What type of film might The Kid be? A.History. B.Comedy. C.Romance. D.Science fiction. 22.Which aspect of Bicycle Thieves might impress the audiences most? A.Its filming spots. B.Its special effects. C.Its excellent actors. D.Its exciting plot. 23.What do The Night of the Shooting Stars and Let There Be Light have in common? A.They are of the same type. B.They have elements of comedy.C.They have the same shooting angle. D.They involve the influence of wars. B As a young person, I never thought of myself as a sports enthusiast because I was quite clumsy. But there was one thing I enjoyed: running. It felt like I was soaring(翱翔) through the air. Sadly, this changed when I hurt my knees two years ago. I had to stay in bed for two weeks and even walking a short way was hard for me. I was so upset that I cried as I moved to the car for several days. When therapy(疗法) wasn't working well for me, I signed up for a hot yoga class for girls, Bikram Yoga to be exact. Starting a yoga practice was truly a blessing because it helped me gain strength in my knees but, most importantly yoga helped me attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit. Since each class was heated to 105°F, every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio, I'd feel a surge of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave. Some of these thoughts were, in the beginning of my practice, so strong that I walked out of the class several times. However, as the months passed by, I noticed that when I didn't get swayed away(动摇) by my negative thoughts, I could stay in the hot room for longer. After 3-4 months of practicing hot yoga, my arms and legs were beginning to get definition. I also woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga practice and I gradually started shedding the pounds(减轻体重) from my body. Yoga literally made me feel as if I'd taken a shot of energy drink and just gave me that burst that helped my knees heal and made my overall health better. As I saw some of my classmates do poses that looked appealing to me, I started to think maybe I could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real limitations physically unless I set those limitations myself through eating junk and thinking in negative and limiting terms. Also, practicing yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and practicing with a group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection with humanity whereas before I didn't. Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see I'm part of a bigger picture in life! 24.What made the author upset according to paragraph 1? A.Her not being sporty. B.Her inability to sleep. C.Her difficulty in walking. D.Her failure to find her car. 25.What difficulty did the author have while attending each yoga class at first? A.She didn't feel welcome in the yoga studio. B.She was greatly influenced by negative thoughts. C.She failed to control the temperature in the studio. D.She couldn't bear the pain the knee injury brought. 26.What can we learn about the author from paragraph 4? A.Her wellbeing benefited a lot from yoga. B.Her goal of doing yoga was to lose weight. C.She had a full recovery from her depression. D.Taking energy drinks contributed a lot to health. 27.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage? A.To share her experience in taking yoga classes. B.To show the vital skills needed to practice yoga. C.To call on the readers to sign up for yoga courses. D.To present the benefits of doing yoga with friends. C I had to say something after reading The Anxious Generation. It is going to sell well, because Jonathan Haidt is telling a scary story about children's development many parents are led to believe. However, the book's repeated suggestion that digital technologies are reshaping our children's brains and causing the epidemic(流行病) of mental illness is unsupported by science. Worse, the rude proposal that social media is to blame might distract us from effectively responding to the real causes of the current mentalhealth crisis in young people. Researchers have searched for the effects suggested by Haidt. The efforts have produced a mix of no, small and mixed associations(联系). When associations over time are found, they suggest not that socialmedia use predicts or causes depression, but that young people who already have mentalhealth problems use such platforms more often or in different ways from their healthy peers. Several analysis and systematic reviews concentrate on the__same__message. An analysis done in 72 countries shows no measurable associations between wellbeing and social media globally. Moreover, studies from some authorities find no evidence of intense changes associated with digitaltechnology use. As a psychologist studying children's and adolescents' mental health, I appreciate parents' frustration and desire for simple answers. As a parent of adolescents, I would also like to identify a simple source for the pain this generation is reporting. There are, however, no simple answers. The beginning and development of mental disorders are driven by a complex set of genetic and environmental factors.More young people are talking openly about their mentalhealth struggles than ever before. But not enough services are available to address their needs. In the United States, there is, on average, one school psychologist for every 1,119 students. We have a generation in crisis and in desperate need of the best of what science and evidencebased solutions can offer. Unfortunately, our time is being spent telling stories that are unsupported by research and that do little to support young people who need, and deserve, more. 28.According to the text, what is presented in The Anxious Generation? A.Scary children's stories. B.Children's brain disorders. C.Gamechanging digital technologies. D.A wrong cause for young people's mental illness. 29.What does “the same message” in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Many countries do research on mental health. B.Wellbeing and social media are closely related. C.The young are faced with the mentalhealth crisis. D.Social media don't necessarily cause mental illness. 30.Which of the following can be inferred from paragraphs 45? A.Mental struggles cannot be identified. B.Mental health remains a private issue. C.Psychological support is badly needed. D.Research can't support young people in crisis. 31.The text is intended to________. A.defend the use of social media B.save a generation in mental crisis C.recommend a potential bestseller D.look into the issue of mental health D A recent survey in the US found that Gen Zers and Millennials visit libraries more often than their parents or grandparents. The young love libraries because they are secure, comfortable, free and—as my 11yearold would say—“aesthetic”. This means they look good in the background of an Instagram post or TikTok video. It's also a great place to meet people. If you're both young and in a library, chances are you have similar interests. And then, too, there are the books. Gen Zers are turning out to be big readers, especially of paper books. Even though, or perhaps because, they have in their pockets the most limitlessly distracting devices ever invented, many are deliberately(故意地) choosing to pick up a piece of 15thcentury technology instead. They like the fact that books are complete in themselves and require focused attention. There is, sometimes, a sense of nostalgic(怀旧的) cosplay in the way young people read. In New York, for example, the latest TikTokfuelled craze(狂热) is reading with strangers in bars. You have to buy a ticket in advance, and then you all gather and sit in silence for 30 minutes, reading whatever book you've brought along. It is like an expensive version of going to the library, except that afterwards you all have a drink and talk about books. To me, reading is a private pleasure, while screens—TV or cinema—are social. I did once, in a group of ambitious parenting, introduce a “family reading hour”, during which my husband and children were pressed to join me at the fireside for some silent reading. It could not have felt more performative if we had dressed up in top hats and oldfashioned clothes. But still, I'd like to praise these young readers—for knowing what is good for them, for seeking out human connection, for finding the beauty and pleasure in old institutions, and for bringing new life to the library. 32.What contributes to the young generation's preference for libraries? A.High technology. B.Pressure from parents. C.Favorable environment. D.Popularity of social media. 33.Why is the latest TikTokfuelled craze mentioned? A.To introduce a popular culture. B.To highlight an old way of reading. C.To stress the importance of reading in silence. D.To show another cause for youngsters' reading enthusiasm. 34. Which is the writer's opinion about reading? A.Reading should be done silently. B.Reading should be enjoyed alone. C.Reading should be a way of parenting. D.Reading should be a way of socializing.35.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Benefits of library reading B.The young generation's shared interest C.The Gen Z’s way to bring new life to libraries D.Conflicted approaches to reading among teenagers 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You probably love watching movies. As a girl of shy and reserved nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the complex city life. One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement fed the school as everyone began preparing for the big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my selfdoubt held me back, “I don't have any special skills to share.” Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn't shake the upsetting feeling until one day, Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” She grinned, “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can't help following you here.” Gosh, I couldn't believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged my little talent. Since Emma had the world's prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune. “You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent towards us and her face lit up. “A big occasion.” Then a light bulb seemed to go in her head. “Why not practise right now upstairs? I bet you'll be a perfect match.” Winking(眨眼示意) at us, she seemed to know we were thinking alike. Emma and I rehearsed(排练) almost every single day after school. We brainstormed and exchanged ideas. Asthe days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called that she had an serious stomachache and was not in any shape to perform. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I was completely shocked by the news. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Finally came the big moment. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________
