I believe that we can use social media for a lot of great things and it’s important
especially for business owners like me. Ever since I started my calligraphy business
two years ago, I’ve never spent a day without going on social media, especially a kind
of social app on my phone, on which I promoted my products and services and got in
contact with possible customers.
Later I found it got in the way of more important things. I hate to say I was
hooked by it, but I was. Every time I turned on my phone, I would dive into it. For a
long time, I had been ignoring other parts of my life, like my family, my friends and
my happiness. One day, I was thinking that a break should have happened long before
to me.
Then I decided to remove the app off my phone for a month and only use that on
my computer to keep track of my business. I wanted a clean break to reflect and plan
for the future.
I had believed that if I spent less time on the platform, I would miss out much.
Actually, I was so wrong. During this month off, I became aware that there was much
to enjoy in life. I found more time to enjoy my hobbies and contacted my good friends
that I had lost touch with. I was refilled with energy in all aspects of my life.
This one month off the app on the phone was healthy for me. If it were not for
my business, I would like not to have it on my phone. I downloaded the app again on
my phone, but only used it to post my own content. I didn’t intend to paint social
media in a negative light, but now I just don’t think the way I was using it was healthy.
It’s difficult to find balance, but I’m going to try to do it anyway. I’m going back, but
it’s going to be different.
24. What did the author mainly do on social media in the beginning?
A. He connected with his friends. B. He worked on
business activities.
C. He learned calligraphy on his own. D. He shared advice
about keeping fit.
25. What do the underlined words “hooked by” in paragraph 2
mean?
A. Concerned about. B. familiar with. C. Addicted to.
D. Frightened by.
26. What did the author learn after removing the social app from his
cellphone?
A. It was meaningless to share on social media. B. There was lots of
fun away from social media. C. The social app contributed little to
his business.
D. The social app in the computer was more practical.
27. Why does the author decide to go back to social media?
A. One month away from social media upsets him.
B. He wants to seek more hobbies on social media.
C. He has confidence in balancing social media and life.
D. His friends ask him to communicate on social media.学科网(北京)股份有限公司C
An Inuit-developed app, named SIKU after the Inuktitut (因钮特语) for “sea ice”,
allows local communities from Alaska to Greenland to connect traditional knowledge
with scientific data to track changes in the environment, and make decisions about
how to manage wildlife.
A group of Inuit elders and hunters from Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, thought up the
idea for SIKU more than ten years ago to document and understand the changing sea
ice they were seeing in southeastern Hudson Bay. The group turned to the local
non-profit Arctic Eider Society (AES) to develop a web-based platform.
Over the years, SIKU has developed, and recently, the elders saw that the
platform could help address a familiar challenge: sharing knowledge with younger
people who often have their noses in their phones. In 2019, SIKU was reintroduced as
a full-fledged (全面发展的) social network -- a platform where members can post
photos and notes about wildlife sightings, hunts, sea ice conditions and more. The
posts tell stories of hunting and traveling; the impacts of climate change and industrial
activity; and the traditions, diets and illnesses of local animals.
Inuit communities are already using the app to inform important decisions. In
2021, for example, elders in Sanikiluaq were worried that the local reindeer (驯鹿)
population had reduced, so the Hunters and Trappers Association used SIKU to survey
hunters and look at recent reported harvest rates. The information led the association
to close the hunt for a short time to reduce pressure on the population and to
reintroduce hunting slowly when the number of reindeer increased.
Traditionally, Inuit communities shared this information orally. “We have lived
in the environment for centuries and know about the wildlife. Now armed with SIKU,
information is documented in a way that other people will understand. The advantage
of SIKU is that it’s part science and part Inuit knowledge and it supports
community-driven research,” says Lucassie Arragutainaq, a co-founder of AES.
28. What was the purpose of developing SIKU in the beginning?
A. To raise money for AES.
B. To pass on Inuit tradition.
C. To attract more visitors to Inuit communities.
D. To record and learn about the changing sea ice.
29. Why is reindeer mentioned in paragraph 4? A.
To further prove the role of SIKU.
B. To advise people to pay more attention to SIKU.
C. To call on visitors and locals to protect reindeer.
D. To tell the benefits of the Hunters and Trappers Association.
30. What is the attitude of Lucassie Arragutainaq toward SIKU?
A. Doubtful. B. Worried. C. Puzzled. D. Supportive.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. SIKU: Overcoming Environmental Challenges
学科网(北京)股份有限公司B. SIKU: Informing Decision Of Local Communities
C. SIKU: Joining Traditional Wisdom To Modern Technology
D. SIKU: Advantages Over Other Local Social Media Platforms

Male mosquitoes may be nearly as blood-thirsty as females under certain
conditions, new research suggests. Male mosquitoes, which are normally disinterested
in blood, will take blood meals when they are dehydrated (脱水), the scientist Jason
Rasgon of Penn State and his colleagues report in a paper. The finding overturns the
idea that only female mosquitoes bite, drink blood and spread diseases. Males may
not be totally harmless.
A student in Rasgon’s lab noticed that male mosquitoes would sometimes feed
on blood in a tray covered by a thin artificial membrane (人工膜) when researchers
took away water. Rasgon wanted to know if thirsty males would try to get blood from
a person, so he stuck his hand in cages containing male mosquitoes. Hydrated males
mostly ignored him, but dehydrated males would land and examine his skin. One even
bit him but hardly got into the first layer of the skin. “I was shocked,” says Rasgon.
Male mosquitoes’ long, tubelike mouth parts aren’t able to bite skin deeply
enough to draw blood. But a wound caused by Rasgon’s cat allowed him to test
whether males could get blood another way. Sure enough, a dehydrated male
mosquito drank blood from the open wound.
In another experiment, male mosquitoes that were genetically engineered to be
unable to sense wetness didn’t take blood meals more often when lacking water.
Those findings suggest that males may go for blood to satisfy their thirst.
One earlier research paper showed that blood was harmful to male mosquitoes.
Scientists thought all male mosquitoes didn’t have the ability to break down blood.
But in Rasgon’s experiment, male mosquitoes fed only blood lived as long as those
that didn’t get blood, and even a little bit longer.
32. What is discovered in Rasgon’s research according to Paragraph 1?
A. Female mosquitoes may be harmful.
B. Only female mosquitoes drink blood.
C. Male mosquitoes may bite and drink blood.
D. Male mosquitoes are disinterested in blood.
33. How did Rasgon carry out his research?
A. By taking away water. B. By experimenting on himself.
B. By placing his cat in the cage. D. By creating a thin artificial membrane.
34. What didn’t Rasgon expect in his research?
A. Male mosquitoes would be able to bite deeply into human skin.
B. Male mosquitoes would try to drink human blood when dehydrated.
C. Female mosquitoes would become interested in blood when hydrated.
D. Female mosquitoes would prefer water over blood meals when dehydrated.
35. What did one earlier research paper show?
A. Blood would bring harm to male mosquitoes.
学科网(北京)股份有限公司B. Blood would make mosquitoes more harmful.
C. Male mosquitoes were able to break down blood.
D. Male mosquitoes fed blood would live as long or longer.

months, the landlord was breathing down their necks (盯着他们).
One day, Jatin took Neha’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost
