66.Dear Patrice,
I’m sorry to hear that you have been in hospital for several days.
I’m writing this letter on behalf of the whole class, who deeply miss you and care you. We are grateful for
everything you’ve done for us.
Actually, it is easy for a person like you to get sick, who hasn’t adapted to the new environment, suffers from
great pressure and lacks exercise. Here are some tips for you.
First of all, it is a good idea to take part in some social activities, which will help you learn more about the local
culture and custom. In addition, you should try to reduce the working pressure by listening to music and making more
friends. Last but not least, you’d exercise more instead of sitting in the office all the time.
Hope our advice will help you lead a healthy lifestyle and hope you would recover soon.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

So I used Mom’s clothesline ( 晾衣绳 ) and cushions ( 垫子 ) to offer help in our backyard . I tied the clothesline
between two trees and placed the cushions along the ground. At first, Tom’s legs trembled as he inched forward, sweat
on his forehead. Our old dog Bingo barked to cheer him on. It was slow work. Tom would take half a step before
falling onto the cushions. But he never complained. “I’ll run to the park one day!” he said, his eyes full of hope and
determination. Every day we practiced — rain or shine — with the clothesline swaying like a bridge to his courage.
One sunny afternoon, something amazing happened. Tom let go of the rope mid-step, his legs shaking but his
eyes steady. Then, to our shock, he took two more steps before falling into Mom’s arms. My family cheered, including
Bingo. “I made it!” Tom shouted with pride. From that day on, Tom could walk further with a little help. By his next
birthday, we celebrated with a big cake and the marks Dad made on the kitchen wall years ago seemed to fade that day
— replaced by the sight of Tom, our “Super Tom.” We realized even the hardest challenges could be overcome with
perseverance and determination.
Text1:A: Can you give me a lift to the cinema, sir? My friends are waiting for me.
B: That was a little bit too fast for me. Could you speak a bit slower, please?
A: I mean whether you can send me to the cinema since you pass there.Text2:W: What special Christmas gifts do you plan to give this year?
M: I still have no idea. Maybe for my mother a mobile phone, for my father something like a shaver, and for my
brother I really want to give him a book.
Text3:W: Professor Smith explained the physics problem very clearly.
M: Did he? Unfortunately, it is all Greek to me. I can’t follow him at all.
Text4:W: You should buy the blue scarf, or the red scarf.
M: Well, I do like them, but they are too expensive. I’ll take the black one. It is cheaper.
Text5:M: Hi Sarah, have you reviewed the chemistry notes? Mr. Brown said we’ll have a quiz tomorrow.
W: Oh no, I forgot. Can I borrow your notebook after lunch? We can study together in the classroom.
Text6:A: I have been improved to a higher position in the new company. Father will hold a family party for me.
B: Don’t jump so fast for that raise. You’re about to win. Today’s workplace is largely unstable. In this environment,
training is worth more than a promotion or a raise and in fact, you do well to make a trade if someone offers you
either.
A: Maybe you are right. Our company will offer me a chance to study for three months. I will make the best use of the
chance to learn more. You know, there are too many excellent employees around here.
Text7:M: Betty, could you give me a hand with the article today?
W: I’d love to, but it’s Friday. I have to attend professor Smith’s lecture. I’m free on Saturday morning and Sunday
afternoon. Which day works better for you?
M: The sooner, the better. I need to hand it in next Monday.
W: How about tomorrow morning? Then we can meet at the nearby restaurant?
M: Good, but it’ll be noisy in the restaurant. How about the cafe instead? Coffees on me just to say thanks.
W: Okay.
Text8:M: I can’t believe it. I only got a “B” on my project. I have worked on it for weeks. Every day, I spent hours
in the library checking on things. I thought I’d done a good job. I even gave up last week’s concert.
W: Well, getting a “B” is good, Jack. I just don’t see why you’re so upset.
M: But Mike didn’t spend half as much time on his project as I did, and he still got an “A”.
W: Mike always gets good grades on his projects. If you are truly dissatisfied, why don’t you speak to the teacher to
find out why you only got a “B”?
M: I don’t feel like speaking to the teacher.
W: Or you can try to find out what you are weak in and improve on those points in your next project.
M: I suppose that’s the best thing to do.
Text9:M: Excuse me, madam.
W: Yes sir, how can I help you?
M: I am a guest in room five one four, I have some free time this afternoon so I want to go to see a park, a landmark,
something like that. What would you suggest
W: A Wrigley field on a sunny day like today is nice.
M: Wrigley field. Don't the clubs play baseball there?W: That's right. In fact they have a game there at four o'clock. If you want to see a building with history. I think
Wrigley field is the Chicago landmark for you to see
M: Great. How do I get there?
W: Go north one block and take the subway. Nothing gets you in or out of wrigley faster than it.
M: Well, the game starts in one hour so I'd better go now. Thanks for your help.
W: Have a good time.
Text10:Hello, everyone. I have an announcement to make. As you know, we have more than thirty students from
America, England, Canada and France visiting our school. In order to help them enjoy their time here, the Students’
Union has decided to organize a European music week. It will be held the last week of September. You can sing pop
songs and play musical instruments, so don’t forget to bring along your musical instrument if you have any. There will
also be an interesting music contest. During the competition, the visiting students will sing the first sentence of a song
and you will be required to guess where the song comes from and what’s the name of the song. Please come to the
Students’ Union office to sign up before September 15th if you want to take part in any of the activities. The music
week will be held in the garden to the left of the library. I hope all of you will have a great time. That’s all!
