In the beginning, Jane Goodall named the chimpanzees(黑猩猩). This was controversial. It was 1960, back when
scientists weren't supposed to honor the animals they studied with names. But Goodall wasn't that kind of scientist.
Technically, she wasn't a scientist at all, graduating from secretarial(秘书的) school. In fact, it was partly this inexperience
that inspired Goodall's employer to send her off to study the wild chimpanzees of Tanzania. Fresh eyes, and a novelapproach, might finally uncover the mysterious world of humanity's closest nonhuman relatives.
This turned out to be true. Day after day, from dawn to dusk, Goodall walked through the forests, trying to establish
rapport with the chimpanzees. She waited, quietly filling notebooks, hoping that the creatures would come to accept this
“strange white creature”. For months, they mostly avoided her. Finally, shared curiosity won out. The chimps came closer
and closer. She fed them bananas, brushed them and was brushed in return, celebrated their births, cried over their deaths.
And as she got to know them, she gave them names: David, Mr. McGregor, Lord Dracula. As the decades passed, and
Goodall established herself as the world's leading chimpanzee expert, the list of names grew.
In Goodall's books, chimpanzee society is as complex as anything in Jane Austen. There is infinite(无限的) drama:
jealousy, union, division. Goodall's chimpanzees play with each other, eat foods and make fun of monkeys by shaking wet
branches over their heads. They appear to dance in the rain and show sadness for the dead. She presents them as different,
thinking, worthy individuals
One of Goodall's greatest virtues was that she approached this relationship without thinking she was better. She
engaged the chimpanzees, as much as humanly possible, on their own terms. She wrote, “As long as one looks with
gentleness, without pride, a chimpanzee will understand, and may even return the look.”
24. Why was Jane sent to Tanzania?
A. Because she came from an unusual background.
B. Because she was well-trained.
C. Because she had relatives there.
D. Because she tried to write a novel.
25. What does the underlined word “rapport” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. A formal agreement.
B. A good relationship.
C. A distant connection.
D. A shared curiosity.
26. What did Jane think of chimpanzees?
A. They were dramatic yet predictable.
B. They had a questioning nature.
C. They were simple animals without feelings.
D. They were unique and intelligent creatures.
27. What was Jane's approach to studying chimpanzees?
A. She exchanged eye contact with them.
B. She recorded data without interrupting them.
C. She respected and observed them.
D. She showed them human authority.
C
Grown-ups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never
practiced ever since. A man who has not had a chance to go swimming for years can still swim as well as ever when he
gets back in the water. He can get on a bicycle after many years and still ride away. He can play, catch and hit a ball as
well as his son. A mother who has not thought about the words for years can teach her daughter the poem that begins
“Twinkle, twinkle, little star” or remember the story of Cinderella or Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows: Once we have learned something, extra
learning trials (尝试) increase the length of time we will remember it.
In childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing baseball long after
we have learned them. We continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as “Twinkle, twinkle, little star” and
childhood tales such as Cinderella and Goldilocks. We not only learn but overlearn.
The multiplication tables (乘法口诀表) are an exception (例外) to the general rule that we forget rather quickly the
things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood.
The law of overlearning explains why cramming (突击学习) for an examination, though it may result in a passing
grade, is not a satisfactory way to learn a college course. By cramming, a student may learn the subject well enough to get
by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned. A little overlearning, on the other hand,
is really necessary for one’s future development.
28. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. Children have a better memory than adults.
B. People remember well what they learned in childhood.
C. Poem reading is a good way to learn words.
D. Stories for children are easy to remember.
29. How does author demonstrate the law of over-learning?
A. By presenting research findings.
B. By stating a general rule.
C By making a comparison.
D. By giving examples.
30. Why are the multiplication tables not easy to forget?
A. Because they are over-learned.
B. Because they are crammed.
C. Because they are important.
D. Because they are only learned once.
31. What is the author's opinion on cramming?
A. It leads to failure in college exams.
B. It's helpful only in a limited way.
C. It suits people with poor memory.
D. It ensures satisfying test scores.
D
Automated(自动化的) vehicles could dramatically reduce traffic accidents and injuries on U. S. roads. Drawing on
historical data and current trends, a recent JAMA Surgery study predicted that self-driving cars could prevent more than 1
million injuries between 2025 and 2035, resulting in a 3.6% reduction in traffic-related injuries over the next decade.
Motor vehicle crashes remain a major public health crisis worldwide. In the U. S. alone, they are a leading cause of
death that claims more than 120 lives every day. The consequences of fatal crashes reach far beyond the scene of the
accident, costing the nation more than $470 billion in medical expenses and lost economic potential from lives cut short.
However, most road accidents are preventable. The majority of crashes result from human error(错误) or alcohol use.
Reducing these risk factors could significantly improve road safety, and research shows that the adoption of fully
autonomous vehicles(AV) could set it on the right track. Initial findings from AV companies such as Waymo indicated that
self-driving cars might reduce accident rates by 80% compared to human operated vehicles.
To fully understand the impact of AV on the number of road traffic injuries, a team of researchers from Canadaanalyzed U. S. national road traffic injury(RTI) data from2009 to 2023 and used it to estimate trends for 2025—2035.
Their prediction focused on two main questions: How many total miles will be driven by AVs? And how much safer
are AVs than human driving? According to their study, self-driving cars could prevent more than 67,000 injuries. This is
true even under a conservative assumption where these cars make up only 1% of miles driven and are just50% safer than
humans.
While the findings are promising, they require further research as long-term, real, world safety data are limited,
considering AV adoption remains at an initial stage. To better assess AV safety, future studies should focus on analyzing
data from highways, where most severe injuries and deaths occur.
32. What is the main focus of the JAMA Surgery study?
A. Damage of road accidents.
B. Safety benefits of automated vehicles.
C. Principles behind self-driving cars.
D. Development of automated technology.
33. Which statement might agree with the Canadian team's findings?
A. The current estimate seems too conservative.
B. Even limited adoption of AVs can greatly reduce injuries.
C. Most traffic injuries are unrelated to human error.
D AVs are at most 50% safer than human drivers.
34. Why is further research on AV safety needed?
A. Because most injuries occur on city roads.
B. Because current AVs are less safe than human driving.
C. Because comprehensive safety data are insufficient.
D Because AVs cannot prevent accidents for good.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Road to Safer Driving
B. A Preventable Crisis
C. The Age of Automation
D. The Rise of AV Companies

Today, doctors are often pressed to see as many patients as possible in a day. Patients have their own busy schedules,
too. Therefore, effective communication is key to maximize your visit. If you want to make your appointment more
effective, here are4 tips to maximize your visit.
Outline your plan before the appointment
The length of an appointment matters less than its quality. Many doctors' visits last only 15—20 minutes, so it's
important to prioritize your concerns by making a plan. 36 . It doesn't need to be complex; it can simply be about your
medical problems, fears or worries.
Be honest and open
It's important to share things about your lifestyle, social responsibilities and relationships. Sometimes patients are
fearful that the doctor isn't interested or that it isn't relevant. But it helps a doctor get the full picture of your overall
well-being. 37 . Your doctor's job is to help you feel better, and is required to protect your privacy.
38
Medical visits can be a lot to deal with and sometimes even the most well-meaning doctor can present too much
information too quickly and in complex terms. Ask your doctor to clarify what they' re saying in plain language if they' retalking in medical-speak. 39 This will help you absorb it, and it will also help the doctor know whether you understood.
Cooperate with your doctor
If your doctor recommends a treatment, share your worries about possible side effects or questions about other
options. This is a way to actively partner with your doctor to make treatment decisions that are most likely to work for you.
Don't be afraid to ask doctors to explain different treatment. 40
A. Study basic medical terms
B. Feel free to ask questions
C. It will help doctor personalize treatment for you
D. Next, repeat the information back to your doctor
E. As a result, patients often left with problems unsolved
F. Before the visit, create a list of topics that you want to address
G. Also, don't be afraid to bring up pain or embarrassing feelings

It was a cool autumn morning when the school announced the annual sports day. For most students, it was a day of
excitement and joy, but for me, it was just another event I wanted to avoid. I had always been the type to shy away from
group activities, preferring the company of my books and thoughts.
Our class monitor, Sarah, noticed my unwillingness. She was the very image of enthusiasm and leadership, always
trying to bring the class together. One day, she approached me during lunch. “Why don't you join us for the relay race(接
It' ll be fun,” she said with a warm smile. I hesitated, but her persistence was hard to ignore.
The next day, Sarah organized a practice session. I showed up on the track, feeling out of place among my more
athletic classmates. We began by practicing the baton(接力棒) exchange. Sarah patiently demonstrated how to smoothly
pass the baton—— the angle of the wrist, the timing of the reach, the grip of the fingers. When it was my turn, I was
nervous. The baton fell to the ground more than once. Embarrassed, I wanted to quit right then. But Sarah was there in an
instant, offering a hand and words of encouragement. “It’s okay, we' re a team,” she said. At that moment, other classmates
gathered around, offering help and kind words. Their kindness made me feel less alone.
As the days went by, I found myself looking forward to the practices. The care and support among my classmates
was infectious(有 感 染 力 的 ). I began to see the value of teamwork and the joy of shared experiences. My initial
unwillingness melted away, replaced by a newfound sense of belonging.
The anticipation(期待) for the sports day filled me with excitement. I dreamed of the cheers, the applauding crowd,
and the thrill of competition. Training hard, I desired to show my skills, push my limits, share and feel the joy of success.
This event was more than a game; it means a lot for me. I could not wait to be part of it!
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;
The day I looked forward to came eventually.

30. A。 根据第三段“The multiplication tables (乘法口诀表) are an exception to the general rule that we
forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we over-learn in
根据第一段中的“self-driving cars could prevent more than 1 million injuries between 2025
and2035, resulting in a 3.6% reduction in traffic-related injuries over the next decade(自动驾驶汽车在 2025 年至
根 据 第 五 段 中 的 “According to their study, self-driving cars could prevent more
than
67,000injuries. This is true even under a conservative assumption where these cars make up only 1% of miles driven
and are just 50% safer than humans.(根据他们的研究,即使基于保守估计————自动驾驶汽车仅占行驶总里程
D 项“AVs are at most 50% safer than human drivers.”
根据第六段中的“While the findings are promising, they require further research as long-term,
real-world safety data are limited, considering AV adoption remains at an initial stage.(尽管研究结果前景乐观,但
故选 A。
36. F。前文强调就诊前要制定计划、优先梳理自己的担忧,F 项“Before the visit, create a list of topics that you want
37. G。本段主旨是“诚实坦率地沟通”,前文提到要分享生活方式等信息,G 项“Also, don't be afraid to bring up
pain or embarrassing feelings(同时,不要害怕提及疼痛或令人尴尬的感受)”用“Also”递进拓展了坦诚沟通的范围,
39. D。前文建议让医生用通俗语言解释,D 项“Next, repeat the information back to your doctor(接下来,把信息复
代物)、priority(优先事项)、profession(职业)均不符合小女孩受鼓舞而产生憧憬的语境。
ready to go(准备好去)是固定搭配。afraid(害怕)、nervous(
47. A。 missed a practice(错过训练)符合坚持训练的语境。
48. C。 短语“to be the best(that) one can be”是英语中一个非常
frustration(挫折、沮丧)最准确。
52. A。 cheer on(为……
run after(追赶)、respond to(回应)、compete with(与……
announcing(宣布)最符合公开场合的正式宣告。
54. B。 While(虽然)引导让步状语从句,
55. D。with all she had been through under(在……之下)、across(穿过)、around(围绕)均无法表达“经历”的含义。
56. treatments。 numerous(许多的)后应接可数名词的复数形式。
57. conducting。
58. which。
59. were pushed。
60. felt。
61. from。 “block… from doing sth.”
62. remarkably。
63. had experienced。
64. Recognized。
65. its。

The day I looked forward to came eventually . The air buzzed with cheers as our relay team stepped onto the track. I
was seized by tension and unease, my palms sweating constantly. Sarah patted me on the shoulder, giving me
encouragement with an inspiring look. A sense of determination crowding in, I raised my head confidently. The whistle
pierced the air, and the runners shot forward like arrows. When my teammate slapped the baton into my palm as the final
leg, I gripped it firmly and launched myself down the track, fueled by the roaring cheers of my classmates. Though we
didn't win, the fulfillment of crossing the finish line was beyond words.
O ur opponent winning narrowly , I blamed our failure on myself . “If I'd run faster, we could have won.”I murmured,
burying my head, with tears of guilt rolling down my checks. Approaching me, Sarah said firmly, “We fought a good battle!
Chin up!” The team gathered around, echoing her words. So warm was I that I felt incredibly comforted. Later, we shared
snacks under a tree, encouraging each other to do it better next year. We were overwhelmed with anticipation, broad smiles
lighting up our faces. It was then that I realized the true victory wasn't cast in medals, but in the courage that forged us and
the bonds that shone brighter than any prize.
1.续写思路(1)第一段分析:“The day I looked forward to came eventually.”
(2)第二段分析:“Our opponent winning narrowly, I blamed our failure on myself.”

W: Why did you leave us, John?
M: It was so hot standing in the kitchen all day. I couldn't bear it.
Text 2
M: Hello. I'm ringing because I lost my wallet. I got off the 11:20 train and went to the shop. I had my wallet then.
Afterwards I went to sit in the waiting room. I probably left it there.
W: Ok. If it's handed in, I' ll call you.
Text 3
M: Are you still planning to go camping at the weekend? I heard the weather is going to be terrible!
W: Oh, a little rain won't stop me ! I' ve been camping in all weathers—— rain, high winds, even snow! I just love being
out in the great outdoors.
Text 4
W: Do you see anything here that we can get for Jason and Alison's wedding?
M: Not really. Can't we just bring them some flowers?
W: No. Flowers aren't right for a wedding. Hey, how about this teapot?
M: Sounds good.
Text 5
W: Hi, I'm Julie. I'm from the department of psychology. What about you?
M: I study biology. I hope you can understand my English. I'm still learning.
W: Well, you speak very well.
Text 6
W: Hello, David, this is Betty speaking.
M: Hello, Betty.
W: David, I can't go to the movies with you tonight. Sorry!(6)
M: What's happening?
W: The owner of the house wants my room for her daughter who is moving back , so I need to find somewhere else , andit's kind of urgent.(7)
M: Oh, that's bad news. If it's any help, I' ve heard that Sara is looking for a roommate. You know Sara, don't you?
W: Yes, we met at your birthday party and we communicated a lot. Perhaps I should try to have a word with her.
M: Yes. It's certainly worth a try.
Text 7
W: Look at all the people. Are they all waiting for the bus?
M: Yes, this is the rush hour. People are on their way home after a long day's work.
W: Now there are other means of transport, like the taxi and the subway. Of course, those are more expensive. But I like
the bicycle best. You can go anywhere you want. And you can plan your own time.(9)
M: But isn't it very tiring when you go to a faraway place?
W: Well, it's good exercise. Oh, it's getting dark.(8) Maybe we should call a taxi.
M: Oh, no, I want to see what it is like to ride on a bus with people all around.(10)
W: All right then.(10) We have got to be patient.
Text 8
W: Excuse me? I'm sorry to bother you, but do you know where the Stowe Building is?(13)

will see it in front of you.
W: Thank you. I'm late for a screen test for a mini-movie. This is my second time for the screen test.(11) My phone battery
died, so I cannot see a map or call the company to tell them I'm running late.
M: In that case, you'd better take a taxi or get a ride instead of walking.
W: I tried signaling three taxis, but none were stopping for me. I don't mind sharing a taxi with others..
M: I have a taxi app on my phone. I' ll order you one.(12)
W: You are so kind. Thank you very much.(12)
M: You are welcome. I just hope you get the role!
Text 9.
W: Hey! Have you heard the news that Manchester United plans to build a huge new stadium? It's going to have 100,000
seats!(14)
M: No way! That's crazy!(14) But it sounds really cool. How do you think it' ll change things?
W: Well, it's not just about the games. They say it' ll bring in 7.3 billion pounds every year! And there' ll be 92,000new
jobs and 17,000 new homes around Old Trafford.(15)
M: Wow, that's massive! I guess it' ll be great for people looking for work and a place to live. But what about Old
Trafford? I' ve always loved that stadium.
W: Don't worry! They' ll keep it. That way, they can keep the history of Old Trafford alive while building something
modern. And the new one will be just a short walking distance from it.(16)
M: Smart move! Do you think it could become as famous as Wembley or even the Eiffel Tower?
W: I bet! It' ll be a super cool landmark for Manchester. Tourists from all over the world will want to visit it!(16)
M: I can't wait for its completion.
W: Same here.

W: Hello, everyone. My name's Jenny Thomas. I'm from WSP, short for Worldwide Students Project. It is a service
organization which was set up to improve international understanding. Now we ' ve got volunteers from 30 different
countries working around the world. If you' re interested in joining us, I'd like to tell you about some of the projects that
are available.(17) Depending on how long you want to be away, there are three kinds of projects to choose from:
short-term projects lasting two or three weeks(18), medium-term projects lasting between one and six months and
long-term projects which can be up to a year. The short-term project I'd like to tell you about is in Japan.(18) It's a village
improvement project.(18) You'd be working with local people, so you need knowledge of Japanese for that. It lasts for
three weeks.(18) The next one is a children's holiday center in Poland. The work includes painting rooms, gardening, DIYprograms, things like that.(19) It's a medium-term one lasting six weeks. The final project is for the medical students here.
You will work at a center for disabled children in India and provide medical care there. It lasts for six months. So you can
get plenty of experience and do something worthwhile for the disabled children.(20)
