Are you looking for some movies? You’ve landed on the right place. Let’s take a look at the list I’ve
collected.
A Beautiful Mind
A Beautiful Mind is the story of John Nash, a mathematician who went on to win the Nobel Prize for
his Game Theory. This movie brings his whole journey on screen — from his beginning to his downhill
ride.
The first half is all about his rise to fame while the second half shows how he slowly falls into
madness. After many years of fighting, he finally is victorious.
I.Q.
The story is about an auto mechanic who falls for Albert Einstein’s niece. The only problem is that
she is engaged (已订婚的) to someone else. Fortunately, Einstein likes him. The young man pretends to
be a physicist to run after her, but things don’t go as he has planned.
If A Beautiful Mind was a little too heavy for you, I.Q. would be the perfect fit. It’s a light drama
that is funny and heartwarming for the most part.
Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is a touching tale of a troubled young man called Will Hunting who is gifted with
a natural talent in mathematics.
However, he is struggling to find his identity. He can solve any math problem, but not the one he
seems to be struggling with in his life. His life seems to be getting only worse until one day he meets
Sean, a therapist, who helps him find direction in life.
Creation
Creation is a story of a famous scientist, Charles Darwin, best known for his Theory of Evolution.
This movie attempts to bring his struggling days into focus, the time when he was dealing with the loss of
his daughter and was suffering from hallucinations (幻觉). At the same time, he was working on a book
called On the Origin of Species, which he finally completed.
All in all, Creation is a great historical drama.
21. If you are interested in a relaxing movie, which one can you see?
A. I.Q B. Creation
C. A Beautiful Mind D. Good Will Hunting
22. Who are experts in mathematics?
A. Will Hunting and Sean. B. John Nash and Will Hunting.
C. Charles Darwin and Sean. D. John Nash and Charles Darwin.
23. What’s the main purpose of the text?
A. To introduce movies. B. To promote science.
C. To recommend actors. D. To compare movies.

Bennett was born with a disability that led to the amputation (截肢) of his foot when he was a baby, butthe 55-year-old never let it hold back the pursuit(追求) of his passion: surfing. He has traveled the world
surfing, making it to some of the most famous big wave surfing spots in places like Indonesia, Hawaii,
Australia, and Portugal. He’s also represented his country in a para-surfing championship (残疾人冲浪锦标
赛) .
“The ocean is my happy place, ” said Bennett. “When I’m riding a wave, nothing else matters, nothing
else is there — it is just me and that wave and feeling that glide and that ride. ”
He grew up a “water baby” and since his father was a big swimmer, the progression to surfing came
naturally, despite his missing foot. For his whole adult life, Bennett has been at the crest (巅峰) of the wave of
para-surfing, which has gone through a huge transformation.
The turning point came in 2015 when the International Surfing Association (ISA) hosted the first Para
Surfing World Championship — bringing together surfers from all the nations. Since then, the sport has
exploded in popularity with para-surfing, with its community becoming the fastest-growing part of the surfing
world. Team England para-surfing team is now ranked seventh in the world, led by Bennett’s instruction and
inspiration.
He explained that within the para-surfing community there are people with all kinds of disabilities. “I
coached someone with brain diseases. I have got some blind guys that I coach, obviously some amputees, ” he
said. “If somebody has got a disability and they want to get in the ocean and catch waves, I can make it
happen. I don’t believe in barriers. I believe in we can do it. ”

Scientists at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom have created “the world’s smallest
violin”. The violin is so tiny that it can only be seen with a powerful microscope (显微镜). The project was
planned to test the limits of how small a violin could actually be.
The tiny violin is made of platinum, a silver-grey precious material (材料) used in making expensive
jewellery and in industry. It is just 35 microns long and 13 microns wide. A micron is one millionth of a meter.
This means that the violin is even thinner than a human hair.
The team at Loughborough University is working to build very tiny things through “nanolithography”.
If you’ve ever used a stencil, you may understand it more easily. For example, you cut a violin-shaped hole in
a piece of paper. That’s a stencil. When you draw on the paper with a pencil, the only part that gets filled in is
the violin-shaped hole.
Nanolithography is more complicated (复杂的), but it follows a similar rule. To make the tiny violin,
the researchers first covered a small chip with a special gel (凝胶). That was like the paper. There were two
steps in creating the hole. First, a special machine with a super-tiny needle was used. The scientists heated the
needle and “drew” the violin on the chip. The heat burns the gel on the chip where the needle touches. Thenthe scientists washed the burned part away, leaving a tiny violin-shaped hole in the gel. Next, they covered the
chip with platinum. This filled the hole. Finally, they washed the chip again, this time clearing the rest of the
gel, and leaving behind the tiny metal violin.
It took about three hours to create the violin, but the researchers spent several months developing the
methods they used. Now the researchers plan to employ the technology to study more serious things. For
example, they’re looking at new ways to store information and make computers work faster by heating.
28.What’s the scientists’ purpose in creating the tiny violin?
A.To explore how small a violin can possibly be made.
B.To test a new invention that can see tiny objects.
C.To find out which material is best for making violins.
D.To show the university’s leading role in musical instrument making.
29.Why does the author mention stencil in paragraph 3?
A.To give an example. B.To explain an idea.
C.To introduce a useful tool. D.To lead into a new topic.
30.What’s the main idea of paragraph 4?
A.How the special gel is burned and washed away.
B.The steps and materials used to make the tiny violin.
C.Why platinum is chosen as the material for the tiny violin.
D.The different roles of the gel and paper in making the violin.
31.What does the underlined word “employ” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Challenge. B.Change. C.Examine. D.Use.
D
To celebrate the spring in Rome, they sometimes eat vignarola. Vignarola is a vegetable stew (炖菜)
mixed with all things green and new. It once marked the start of the new season after the hungry gap of late
winter. But in a time when frozen peas are available all year round, the dish’s amazing spring freshness no
longer means as much.
Our modern food system has been able to supply us with the freshness of spring all year round, but
before refrigeration (冷藏) and modern methods of agriculture, even butter and eggs were seasonal foods.
However, how often do you ever taste something truly fresh? If you look closely, you’ll likely notice much of
the produce at your local supermarket isn’t quite as fresh as you thought. I recently met a British farmer who
produces salad greens. He told me he can taste a huge difference between a leaf that is a day old and one that
is three days old and that, by five days, the taste is greatly dulled, despite the leaves still looking green and
bright. Because of this, the average shopper is none the wiser in regard to the freshness of produce. The same
goes for much of the food you buy. The label says “fresh” but what this actually means is something closer to
“not rotten (腐烂的).”
Our entire food supply is based on the idea of “fresh” and “keeping things fresh”. But to keep things
fresh is a kind of cheat, because something can only truly be considered fresh when it has just been taken out
of the ground or has just been cooked. The “fresh” food and drink in our supermarkets has often been on a
surprisingly long journey in the global cold chain before it reaches us. Many refrigerated foods can be labeled
as “fresh” even if they are weeks old, and fruit can still be “fresh” after being irradiated (辐照) or after having
received a wax coating.
It may be impossible to measure true freshness in food, but you know it when you taste it. A couple of
years ago, a friend served me a simple dish of boiled potatoes that were so fresh and waxy that every other
potato I’d ever eaten seemed tasteless in my memory.
32.What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A.Supermarkets only sell vegetables that are truly fresh.
B.Supermarkets sometimes invite farmers to teach shoppers how to choose fresh produce.
C.Many people can’t actually tell whether supermarket produce is fresh or not.
D.The British farmer could find little difference between truly fresh greens and “fresh” greens.
33.Why does the author say “to keep things fresh is a kind of cheat” in paragraph 3?
A.Because many kinds of drinks are made from concentrate.
B.Because it’s impossible for the modern food system to keep food fresh.
C.Because consumers typically aren’t able to tell whether the food on sale is fresh or not.D.Because it often takes a long time before “fresh” food appear in your local supermarket.
34.According to the author, what’s the most reliable way to tell whether food is fresh or not?
A.Check it. B.Taste it. C.Smell it. D.Cook it.
35.How does the author start and end the passage?
A.By telling stories of her friends.
B.By introducing traditional foods.
C.By showing examples of truly fresh food.
D.By sharing her experience of eating truly fresh food.

You’ve likely come across the saying “You only get one chance to make a first impression.” It’s true,
and quickly making a good impression on your teacher is an important part of having a successful school year.
36 Here are some ways to help you make a good impression.
37 Talk to the teacher for a minute or so if possible. This shows that you aren’t afraid to
socialize and that you have confidence. Most teachers favor a confident student. Walk up to your teacher
confidently, make eye contact, extend your hand, and say something you have in common.
Wear a cheerful expression. Smile at every reasonable opportunity. Teachers are fond of students who
are full of joy. It is important to look like you’re enjoying yourself during class. Some people think “dressing
for success” in order to make a good impression. 38
Keep a positive attitude. Whether in class or out of it, situations won’t always turn out as you wish.
Don’t let temporary difficulties influence your mood and appearance, though. 39 Teachers find it
easier to get along with a positive person. Negativity spreads, but being positive spreads, too.
Volunteer to help out. Don’t be shy. If the teacher asks for a volunteer to hand out study sheets or clean
the chalkboard, raise your hand. And do it with a smile. 40 You can even offer to help out without the
teacher asking for volunteers.
A.Come to class ready to learn.
B.Introduce yourself at the first opportunity.
C.Do your best to avoid complaining or frowning.
D.Show the teacher that you’re actively involved in class.
E.But a nice smile is the easiest way to make a good impression.
F.Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you don’t understand something.
G.However, you don’t have to be the cleverest student to make a teacher value you.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My family just moved here from St. Louis. It was my first day at a new high school and the very day of
soccer tryouts (选拔赛). Soccer is my life, played soccer, went to soccer games, and watched soccer on
television with Mom and Dad. They even got me a magazine about soccer.
We left very early in the morning, planning to be at our new home before classes began. If everything
had gone perfectly, there would have been time for me to find my new classes, meet people, and even warm
up before the tryouts.
However, while we were driving to my new home, our car suddenly stopped working on the highway
under the hot sun. We waited anxiously for two hours for a rescue, only to spend another two hours arranging
for a rental car. The whole time, my heart was pounding with worry, afraid that I would miss the tryouts.
Finally, we arrived at the new school. The moment I got out of the car, I rushed towards the
headmaster’s office to report, out of breath. “Oh, Tina I think you’re too late for the tryouts. Coach Turner said
they’d end at 3 pm,” said Headmaster Morgan. She glanced up at the clock and shook her head, “They’re
almost finished.” Feeling defeated, I bit my lower lip and held back tears. All of a sudden, I saw the latest
soccer magazine in my backpack. At that moment, my favorite words from the magazine rang in my head
“good player never gives up, even when the game seems lost.”
注意:
1. 续写字数应为150词左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Possible version 1:
Dear Jack,
I totally get why you love sharing moments on WeChat Moments—it’s a nice way to record life
and stay close to friends.
But oversharing might bring troubles. Posting every detail could expose your private life to
strangers, and too many posts might make others feel defeated instead of interested.
Here’s a small suggestion: try sharing only the most meaningful moments, like a great trip or a
personal achievement. This way, your shares will be more valuable to everyone.
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible version 2
Dear Jack,
I completely understand your love for sharing on WeChat Moments. It’s such a warm way to let
friends know about your daily life and happy little things.
However, oversharing has its downsides. Revealing too many details, like your daily schedule or
home address, may put your safety at risk. Also, frequent posts might make some friends tired of
scrolling through them.
Why not pick 1 or 2 really special things to share each week? This way, your posts will stand out
and be more treasured by everyone.
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible version 3
Dear Jack,
I'm worried that you've been addicted to sharing all sorts of photos in WeChat Moment recently.
Undeniably, WeChat makes communication convenient and leisure time colorful. However,
there exist some potential risks if we overshare. One severe problem is leaking privacy, which may
cause economic losses. Besides, oversharing can make others uncomfortable, for they think you are
showing off. Thus, never should we post our personal information, nor should we blindly add strangers to the
list of friends. It's wiser to set aside some time to accompany parents or do something more
meaningful
Best wishes!
Yours truly,
Li Hua
Possible version 1
“I’m so sorry, but our car broke down,” I explained to the headmaster. I pulled out the soccer magazine from
my backpack, pointing to the article about perseverance in sports. “I’ve dreamed of playing soccer here, and I really
don’t want to miss this chance. Please, could you let Coach Turner know how much this means to me?”
Headmaster Morgan’s expression softened. She made a call and then said, “Coach will meet you on the field.
Hurry.”I ran to the soccer field as fast as I could. The other players were packing up, but Coach Turner was there,
looking at his watch.
“Three minutes,” Coach Turner said, rolling a soccer ball toward me. I didn’t waste a second. I dribbled the
ball with speed and control, showing off my footwork and accuracy. I took a shot that curved beautifully into the
net. When the three minutes ended, Coach Turner smiled. “You’ve got skills. Be here at 7 am tomorrow for
practice. Welcome to the team, Tina.” Tears of joy welled up in my eyes—I had made it, all because I didn’t give
up.
Possible version 2:
“I m so sorry, but our car broke down”, I explained to the headmaster. I know I’m late, but I’ve been playing
soccer my whole life. “This means everything to me. Please give me a chance to show what I can do.” I stared at
the headmaster and begged, holding onto a tiny hope. Headmaster Morgan looked hesitant at first, her brows
furrowed. But seeing the determination in my eyes, she let out a sigh and picked up the phone. “Coach Turner?
There’s a determined girl here.” My heart raced as Headmaster Morgan finally pointed outside. “Go to the field
quickly!”
“Three minutes,” Coach Turner said, rolling a soccer ball toward me. Without hesitation, I sprang into
action. The wind rushed past my ears, and I could only hear the intense beating of my own heart. Sweat dripped
down my neck as three defenders charged. I passed right, moved left, and then shot with my left foot. Finally, the
ball flew over the goalkeeper’s hands, and went into the net. The coach’s eyes widened in surprise. I held my
breath, waiting for his decision. “Welcome to the team,” Coach Turner announced, and I couldn’t help breaking
into a huge smile. I knew it was my love for soccer that kept me from giving up.

M: I have an old friend named Joseph who is retired and then he started studying French at
the age of sixty-five and he’s mastered it well.
W: O⑪h, really?
M: Yeah. He’s now living in Paris. He’s made many French friends.
W: Why did he start it so late?
M: He has been interested in French culture, but when he was young, he worked in Tokyo
and had no time to learn it. So after he retired, he came back to London and began to
learn French. ⑪⑫
W: Well, I see. ⑪
M: So I think learning a language has a lot to do with your motivation and interest because you can
start learning later in life and you succeed.
W: So you don’t think age matters when we learn a language, do you?
M: No, I don’t think so.
Text 9M: Have you looked for a summer job lately, Maria?
W: Well, things are a bit difficult. I saw some offers for shop assistants, but that seemed boring.
⑬I’d love to have a job as a swimming coach, because I studied it last summer.
M: I understand.
W: ⑬Anyway, I found a hotel that’s looking for a receptionist. They were happy to meet with me, and
I’ll start in two weeks.
M: Oh good! You’ll meet many interesting people in the hotel.
W: Right. Well, the hotel is not close to my house. There aren’t any buses that go there. I’ll
just drive. It’s too far to ride my bike.
M: I see. Is⑭ that a problem? ⑭
W: Hmm, well, I’ll pay a lot for petrol.
M: Where is the hotel? Is it near the beach?
W: No, it’s in the mountains. It’s got a great view. You can see our town and the forest to the
w⑮est.
M: W⑮ow, cool! Well, I hope you have a lot of visitors.
W: Me too. Well, there’s a new movie at 7:00 this evening in West Theater. Would you like to go to
see it together? Mike and Tina will go too.
M: Great. I’ll have dinner with my grandparents first and then I’ll meet you there at 6:30.
