Peking University Institute for Global Health and Development (GHD), founded in 2020 with Professor Gordon G. Liu as the inaugural Dean. As an interdisciplinary institute, GHD integrates the university’s strengths in health economics, public health, international relations, environmental science, digital technology, and other related fields. Guided by the vision of “One World, One Health,” GHD addresses global health issues from a human development perspective. Through interdisciplinary research, education, international cooperation, and industry-academia integration, GHD explores innovative solutions to major human health challenges, promotes China’s active participation in global health governance, and contributes to building a global community of a shared future for sustainable and inclusive development.

Yale Center Beijing (YCB) opened on October 27, 2014. As the only such center Yale University has opened outside of its campus, YCB advances Yale University’s fundamental dedication to developing leaders from all sectors of society and all regions of the globe.

By leveraging Yale’s wealth of resources as a global research university and its historically strong ties to China, the Center aims to further constructive dialogue about pressing issues and the forthright exchange of ideas and knowledge among decision-makers and thought leaders.

The Center, which is housed in a 16,500-square-foot space in Chaoyang District of Beijing, enables the University to expand existing activities and form new partnerships in China, supports research and study from each of the University’s schools and divisions, and serves as a gathering place for alumni from throughout Asia.

Summer School Introduction

The “2026 AI for Planetary Health Economics Summer Program”

is co-hosted by the Peking University Institute for Global Health and Development (GHD) and Yale Center Beijing. This one-week intensive program is designed for outstanding young scholars in global health, health economics, health policy and management, and related disciplines. The summer school will be held at Peking University from July 12 to 16, 2026.

Admitted participants will attend in-person academic activities at Peking University, including lectures from renowned scholars, scientists, and entrepreneurs from top academic institutions including Peking University and Yale University. The program will focus on cutting-edge economic topics related to “AI for Planetary Health”. In addition to lectures and forums, the program includes visits to international organizations and academic institutions, such as the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the World Health Organization Beijing Office, and Yale Center Beijing.

Approximately 30 participants will be selected for the summer school. There is no tuition fee; however, participants are responsible for their own accommodation and round-trip transportation. The program will provide a stipend for all participants: RMB 500 for participants based in Beijing and RMB 2,500 for those outside Beijing. During the program, meals (lunch, dinner, and tea breaks) and personal insurance will be provided for each participant.

A limited number of observer slots are available. Observers are also required to apply and may participate in part of the program. Eligibility for Admission

Senior undergraduate students or Master’s students.
Academic background in economics, public health, big data, or related fields; strong interest in academic research.
Good English proficiency in research, academic writing, and daily communication.

Participant Selection

Applications will be reviewed and participants selected by a special committee composed of faculty from Peking University and Yale University. Successful applicants will be notified by email

by May 25, 2026, and the admission list will be published on the official website of the Peking University Institute for Global Health and Development. Due to the large volume of applications, unsuccessful candidates will not be notified individually.
