Emojis Make Our Language Richer
Good morning, everyone!
I feel honored to give you a speech entitled “Emojis make our language richer”.
When we are writing a message to someone, it can be hard to get across how we are feeling. Emojis can help with this, in the same way that people use body language when speaking. Besides, they are easily understood, making them the closest thing to a universal language. Emojis are also helpful in making others understand us. An emoji can convey an emotion that might otherwise take someone a whole sentence to express. In a word, these emojis bring our language to life.
That’s all. Thanks for listening!
(84 words)
1. get sth. across
2. body language
3. be helpful in doing sth.
4. bring sth. to life 使某物生动
1. When we are writing a message to someone, it can be hard to get across how we are feeling.(when引导时间状语从句;how引导宾语从句)
2. An emoji can convey an emotion that might otherwise take someone a whole sentence to express.(that引导定语从句)
Jasmine lived on a small farm with her parents and her sister Grace. They were poor and made a living by selling animals, but they treated the creatures with great kindness. Jasmine was quite a help to her parents. She loved riding horses and caring for them. Of all the horses, Madeline was her favorite. She was a white horse with beautiful golden mane (鬃毛). She was the swiftest horse in the stable (马厩). Jasmine had always dreamed of riding Madeline in a race and winning.
Life had been harder for the poor family recently. They had to sell Madeline to support their daily life. Jasmine was not at all pleased with the idea. She thought long and hard about what to do, to see if she could think of an alternative solution.
One day, she saw an advertisement in the local newspaper for a horse race. The winner of the race would get $1,000. She thought that she and Madeline could enter the race. She told Grace about her idea and Grace was also pleased with it. They went to the race organizer and added Madeline’s name to the list of horses running in the race. The organizer told them that the race was in eleven days’ time.
The next day, during a routine check-up, the two girls noticed that Madeline seemed different. “She looks weak and unwell,” Grace said, with a worried look. She began to stroke her mane. “You’re right, Grace. Go and call our mother while I get Madeline some water,” said Jasmine. Grace ran off to inform their mother. Meanwhile, Madeline grew weaker. Grace soon returned with their mother, who immediately called a vet. The vet arrived quickly and, after examining Madeline, said that she was ill. The whole family was very worried as Madeline’s health continued to get worse. She could hardly eat anything. Madeline’s condition broke Jasmine’s heart. Her only wish was that Madeline would soon recover.

Whenever Jasmine had time, she went to check on Madeline and take care of her. Despite her worsening health, Jasmine continued to give her medication as instructed by the vet and comforted her by stroking her mane. Madeline, as if touched by her love, showed signs of recovery after a week. She started to regain her strength and energy. The vet was called in to examine Madeline again. Much to Jasmine’s relief and excitement, he declared in disbelief that the horse had recovered. The next four days witnessed their tireless training for the race. Gradually, they cooperated more and more smoothly and performed better and better.
On the day of the race, Jasmine and Madeline headed to the race course. There were many horses there, but apparently Madeline was the most striking, with her golden mane. The whistle blew, and the race kicked off. Madeline dashed forward like an arrow. Jasmine held the reins tightly, the wind howling in her ears. Eventually, they became the first pair to cross the finish line, where her family were cheering and clapping. So delighted was Jasmine that she could not help weeping. With the prize money she had won, her family wouldn’t need to sell Madeline.
