Mia was supposed to walk her dog Max first after school. But she ignored the rule and spent an hour on her phone instead. When she finally got to the backyard, Max had already dug a huge hole under the fence and escaped.
Q: What can we infer from the story?
A. Rules are unnecessary.
B. Rules make life inconvenient.
C. Rules are there to keep things in order.
D. Rules should be ignored from time to time.
Scientists did a test to make sure the seeds respond to sound instead of water. They chose to focus on rice seeds because rice is usually planted in water. Thousands of rice seeds were put in water. By this way, all of the seeds could get enough water to grow.
Q: Why did scientists put all the rice seeds in water?
A. To help them grow faster.
B. To test if they like water.
C. To make sure they were in the same condition.
D. To see if they could hear the sound.
Twenty years ago, China had no shield tunneling machines. But today, Chinese-made shield tunneling machines are sold to over 40 countries.
Q: What can we infer from the passage?
A. China only started making shield tunneling machines recently.
B. China used to import shield tunneling machines from other countries.
C. China is the only country that makes shield tunneling machines.
D. Shield tunneling machines are not popular in China.
📝 Passage 1
Emma loved painting. She spent every free minute in the art room, but her classmates always laughed at her works. "They look like a mess," they said. Emma felt hurt but didn't stop. She practiced harder, stayed after school every day, and watched tutorials online at night. One year later, her painting won the first prize in the city youth art competition. When the teacher asked her to give a speech, Emma said quietly, "I just never gave up what I love."
Q: What can we infer from the passage?
A. Emma's classmates helped her improve.
B. Emma was bored of painting at last.
C. Emma faced difficulties but kept trying.
D. Emma won the prize easily.
📝 Passage 2
Most people think that only humans have feelings. But recent studies show that animals can also feel emotions like happiness, sadness, and fear. For example, when dogs see their owners after a long time, they wag their tails and jump excitedly. Elephants have been observed crying when a family member dies. Scientists believe that understanding animal emotions can help us treat them better.
Q: What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Animals have the same feelings as humans in every way.
B. Elephants never show their feelings.
C. Scientific research challenges the idea that only humans have feelings.
D. People already treat all animals very well.
📝 Passage 3
In many countries, students are required to wear school uniforms. Supporters say uniforms reduce peer pressure and help students focus on study. However, critics argue that uniforms limit students' creativity and self-expression. A recent survey showed that 65% of students prefer to choose their own clothes, while 35% like uniforms. The debate continues, but more schools are now considering flexible dress codes.
Q:What can we infer about the future of school uniforms?
A. All schools will stop using uniforms.
B. More flexible options may appear in schools.
C. Students will have no choice but to wear uniforms.
D. The debate will end soon.
