I Teaching aims

1. Students will master the key vocabulary of the four seasons, especially  “fall” and the expressions like “I like... because...” to describe the season  correctly.

2. Students can learn some reading strategies such as finding the key  information or detailed information through reading.

3. Students can write down the sentences to express their favorite seasons  and give reasons accordingly.

4. Students will pay more attention to their safety when they go to an  outdoor activity.

1. To talk about seasons freely and correctly in their daily life.

III Teaching procedures

Step 1 Warming-up

1. Greet students about the weather.

2. Play a video clip from Spongebob Squarepants. Inquire students whether  they would like to enjoy the sea and the beach, and when they usually go to the  seaside. Some students will say they would like and they usually go in the  summer time. The teacher should remind them that they need to pay attention to  their safety when they do some outdoor activities. Then lead to the topic-My  favourite season.

Step 2 Pre-reading

1. Introduce the background information about the passage: Their friend Robin  has some ideas about different seasons, too.

2. Before reading the passage, introduce the word “fall” and explain the two  different meanings by actions and drawing pictures: It means autumn and moving  downward.

Step 3 While-reading

First-reading: Ask questions

Question 1: Why does Robin like spring?

Question 2: Why does he like winter?

Then ask someone to answer two questions by matching activity. Ask students  to share the answer.

Second-reading: Read and Tick:

Ask them to finish the task in the book. And then invite some students to  finish the task.

Step 4 Post-reading

Activity: Be a little writer

Let students write something about their favorite season, and they need to  complete the sentence in the book. Remind them to use the sentence structures in  the textbook. After finishing, students exchange their sentences with deskmates  and check for each other. And then ask someone to share and give positive  feedback.

Step 5 Summary & homework

Summary: make a summary of what they’ve learned today with students  together.

Homework 1: draw a picture that can symbolize a season. Next class the  teacher will invite someone to share and others should guess which season it  is.

Homework 2: let them search the Internet about more knowledge of global  climate differences.
