阅读理解 A 2024·浙江1月,C 说明文 310词 ★★☆☆☆ On September 7, 1991, the costliest hailstorm (雹暴) in Canadian history hit Calgary's southern suburbs. As a result, since 1996 a group of insurance companies have spent about $2 million per year on the Alberta Hail Suppression Project. Airplanes seed threatening storm cells with a chemical to make small ice crystals fall as rain before they can grow into dangerous hailstones. But farmers in eastcentral Alberta—downwind of the hail project flights—worry that precious moisture (水分) is being stolen from their thirsty land by the cloud seeding. Norman Stienwand, who farms in that area, has been addressing public meetings on this issue for years. “Basically, the provincial government is letting the insurance companies protect the CalgaryEdmonton urban area from hail,” Mr. Stienwand says, “but they're increasing drought risk as far east as Saskatchewan.” The Alberta hail project is managed by Terry Krauss, a cloud physicist who works for Weather Modification Inc. of Fargo, North Dakota. “We affect only a very small percentage of the total moisture in the air, so we cannot be causing drought,” Dr. Krauss says. “In fact, we may be helping increase the moisture downwind by creating wetter ground.” One doubter about the safety of cloud seeding is Chuck Doswell, a research scientist who just retired from the University of Oklahoma. “In 1999, I personally saw significant tornadoes form from a seeded storm cell in Kansas,” Dr. Doswell says. “Does cloud seeding create killer storms or reduce moisture downwind? No one really knows, of course, but the seeding goes on.” Given the degree of doubt, Mr. Stienwand suggests, “It would be wise to stop cloud seeding.” In practice, doubt has had the opposite effect. Due to the lack of scientific proof concerning their impacts, no one has succeeded in winning a lawsuit against cloudseeding companies. Hence, private climate engineering can proceed in relative legal safety. 1.What does the project aim to do? A.Conserve moisture in the soil. B.Prevent the formation of hailstones. C.Forecast disastrous hailstorms. D.Investigate chemical use in farming. 题干中的“the project”指的就是第一段中所提到的 “Alberta Hail Suppression Project”,因此根据第一段中的“Airplanes seed threatening storm cells with a chemical to make small ice crystals fall as rain before they can grow into dangeroushailstones”可知,飞机通过向有威胁性的风暴体播撒一种化学物质,使得小冰晶在变成危险 的冰雹之前先变成雨落下。 2.Who are opposed to the project? A.Farmers in eastcentral Alberta. B.Managers of insurance companies. C.Provincial government officials. D.Residents of Calgary and Edmonton. 根据第一段中的“But farmers in eastcentral Alberta...worry that precious moisture (水分) is being stolen from their thirsty land by the cloud seeding”可知,Alberta中东部的农民担心播云会带走他们干旱土地中的宝贵水分。 3.Why does Dr. Doswell mention the tornadoes he saw in 1999? A.To compare different kinds of seeding methods. B.To illustrate the development of big hailstorms. C.To indicate a possible danger of cloud seeding. D.To show the link between storms and moisture. 根据第四段中的“One doubter about the safety of cloud seeding is Chuck Doswell”可知, Doswell博士对播云的安全性持怀疑态度。 随后他又 提出疑问“Does cloud seeding create killer storms or reduce moisture downwind?”,怀疑播 云会产生致命的风暴或是减少下风处的水分。 4.What can we infer from the last paragraph? A.Scientific studies have proved Stienwand right. B.Private climate engineering is illegal in Canada. C.The doubt about cloud seeding has disappeared. D.Cloudseeding companies will continue to exist. B 2024·武汉高三调研 记叙文 298词 ★★★☆☆ During 20 years of stacking (使码放在) shelves with goods at his family's supermarket in Pollenca on the Spanish island of Mallorca, Jose LuisReig, known as Pep, never gave a thought to the academic world. It was only when visiting the classrooms and passages of mainland universities with his two teenage daughters that he suddenly felt himself at home among the books and atmosphere of learning. After school Pep had intended to get a degree in biology at the University of Barcelona buthad been called on to help run the family business instead. But the question of “What's my role in life?” still kept coming back to him. It wasn't until a year later that the answer suddenly struck him. When he was at school, other children would come to him with their problems. He developed a reputation and so was invited onto local radio, where the interviewer said, “You're like a young psychologist.” Pep was no stranger to change. The family business had originally been a sawmill (锯木厂), but when Pep, then 27, was asked if he wanted to take over, he decided to transform the mill into the town's first supermarket. One day in the shop, what the radio presenter said came back to him. After running the idea past his family, he applied to a university in Palma to study psychology and, aged 46, was accepted. “I had to get used to being much older than all the other students,” he says. “In fact, I was older than my professor. But I believe disadvantages can always be advantages. And I ended up helping the others because I'd had more life experience that carries a psychological impact, which could reflect classroom theory.” Pep came top of his year and impressed his tutors so much that he was offered a job researching and teaching, which he still does while studying for a master's in neuropsychology. Now 52, and still in the job, he adds, “My only regret is not having done it earlier.” 5.What can we know about Pep in the first paragraph? A.He felt relaxed in the academic atmosphere. B.He visited his daughters' universities frequently. C.He supported his daughters' by arranging shelves. D.He never quit the thought of going to mainland colleges. 根据第一段中的“It was only when...that he suddenly felt himself at home among the books and atmosphere of learning”可知,只有当他带着两个十 几岁的女儿参观内地大学的教室和走廊时,他才突然在书籍和学习氛围中感到自在。 A。 6.What was Pep's answer to the question of his role in life? A.To win a reputation. B.To study psychology. C.To take over his family business. D.To cure children's problems. B。 7.What inspired Pep to apply to the university in Palma at 46? A.His pursuit of a better career. B.The radio presenter's comment. C.His classmates' encouragement. D.The proposal of the family members. 根据第五段的内容“One day in the shop...to studypsychology and, aged 46, was accepted”可知,电台主持人的评论激励着Pep申请帕尔马的大 学,故选B。 8.Which quality might have helped Pep a lot in the university? A.Integrity. B.Selfdiscipline. C.Sensitivity. D.Optimism. 根据倒数第二段内容,尤其是“But I believe disadvantages can always be advantages”可知,在大学期间Pep的乐观有可能对他学业上的成功有很大的帮助。 Ⅱ. [2024·新课标Ⅰ卷]I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought. That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car. Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. “We made it,” he said. Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out. At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: “Out of order.Sorry.” I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 写作思路: 故事梗概 “我”要在维也纳换乘公交车去布拉格参加会议,但飞往维也纳的航班由 于暴风雨延误了。 续写思路'根据续写第一段提示句“I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news”(“我”跑向Gunter跟他讲了这个坏消息)可知,续写第一段可先写“我”跟他解释情 况及之后他可能的反应等。再结合续写第二段提示句“Four days later, when I was back in Vienna,I called Gunter as promised”(四天后,当“我”回到维也纳时,“我”按照承诺给 Gunter打了电话)可知,续写第一段还应描写“我”要了Gunter的电话号码,且他让“我” 先行离开了。 One possible version: I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. The cash machine was also out of order! In other words, I couldn't pay him now. I felt so depressed and sorry [心理描写,沮丧且抱 歉], an embarrassed smile creeping into ( 逐渐浮现 ) my face (独立主格结构)[表情描写,体 现尴尬处境]. Then an idea occurred to me. I pointed at [手部动作描写] my phone and asked him to give his phone number to me so that I could contact him when I came back here (目的状语从 句,其中 when 引导时间状语从句). Surprisingly, he comforted me that everything was OK since he had known how anxious I was (that引导宾语从句,其中since引导原因状语从句, how引导宾语从句). After we said goodbye to each other, I rushed to[肢体动作描写] the queue. Fortunately, I didn't miss the whole arrangements for the conference. Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. He didn't recognise me immediately when I said hello to him. So I explained my intention. At first, he refused to charge me the fare. But I insisted I owe him the money(宾语从句+虚拟语气). Therefore, we made a deal to meet at the bus station. When we met, I extended my gratitude for his trust in me, gave him the fare and tipped (给小费) him another sum of money [表达感激 的心理以及付钱的动作链]. Satisfied, he gave me a thumbsup, praised me a lot for my honesty and also thanked me for the tip [司机收到报酬后的反应动作链], but I told him that he deserved it (that引导宾语从句). Till now, every time I recall this experience (every time引导时间状语从 句), I can't help wondering (不禁琢磨) if there is more trust and honesty in the world, how charming our world will be (how引导宾语从句,其中if引导条件状语从句).
