It was not love at first read; it was rather a serendipitous (偶然的) encounter.
Ever since my childhood I had believed that books are not for me. I tried, but failed. I borrowed
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone from an older cousin at age 12 and couldn’t complete a chapter.
I borrowed The Da Vinci
Code from another cousin at 15 and, again, failed to understand anything at all. Other than that, I had
no interest in reading books.
But then my friend had written a piece for a competition and she wanted us to run it through
before she handed it in. It was a short story of no more than a hundred words, titled something on the
lines of “Meeting a dead man”. As she began reading it out, I experienced something I had never
experienced before. I saw myself walking in the park in the foggy morning hours. I saw a man with a
grey scarf sitting on an old wooden bench. I felt fear. I felt curious to know his story. That moment,
my journey into the world of books began.
Over the years I figured out that I’m more of a visual and kinesthetic (动觉的) person. I
understand information largely through pictures and feelings. When I read a book, I see the video
playing in my head and I feel the emotions in my body. A friend of mine suggested I read A Thousand
Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner, two masterpieces by Khaled Hosseini. These books fired an interest
英语试题 第 3 页 共 8 页in writing for the first time in my life, paving the way for my writing journey.
I feel extremely lucky to have read some of the beautiful literary works and my list continues to
grow. My heartfelt thanks go out to the writers and readers who inspired me at different stages of my
life and introduced me to books that changed and continue to change my life.

A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples.
C. By explaining reasons. D. By making comparisons.

A. A talk with an old man. B. The life story of a man.

A. They aroused his interest in writing.
B. They showed him how to express emotions.
C. They taught him ways to understand information.
D. They helped him figure out his favorite book type.
27. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. My Experience of Reading B. The World’s Best Reads
C. My Change from Reading to Writing D. Reading: A Source of Knowledge

At the end of the last ice age, Scotland was a truly wild place, where the Highland tiger, a
distinctly banded wildcat, and many other animals lived among Caledonian pine forests. But over time,
humans cleared the land for wood, fuel, and agriculture. By the turn of the 20th century, only 5 per
cent of Scotland’s land area was covered by forest.
Now the country is experiencing a moment for rewilding—in essence, the rebuilding of ecosystems
to their natural uncultivated states. No one can quite agree when the rewilding movement officially
began, but one popular perspective sets it in the late 1980s. That’s when environmental charity Trees for
Life moved the conversation from protecting individual species and specific habitats to restoring
ecological processes on a larger scale.
Today, Trees for Life is also responsible for a world first in rewilding. Beginning in spring 2023,
visitors who travel to Glenmoriston, a valley in the Scottish Highlands, are able to experience the
immersive Dundreggan Rewilding Centre. Located in pinewoods on Trees for Life’s 10,000-acre estate,
the campus has been developed to showcase the ambitious project.
This area is now home to 4,000 native plant and animal species. The hope is that visitors will be
inspired to reengage with nature in new ways. For full immersion, the rewilding centre, with exhibitions
and classrooms, will house a 40-bed complex for researchers and volunteers.
In a landscape where nature-based tourism accounts for nearly 40 per cent of all visitor spend,
according to government agency NatureScot, new ecotourism projects are being driven by other
reintroduced species. Visitors arrive to “come to the end of the road, to connect to the environment,
and to feel spiritual,” as Paul Lister, a conservationist, puts it.
For now, Scotland is not as it once was. While it’s appealing to see a visit to its rewilding area as
a journey back in time, it’s more accurately a visit to a place with a more positive future.
28. What can we learn about Scotland’s rewilding movement?
A. It aimed to recreate the scene of the ice age.
B. It officially began in the early 20th century.
C. Trees for Life played a key role in starting it.
英语试题 第 4 页 共 8 页D. Trees for Life solely funded it in the late 1980s.
29. What do the underlined words “This area” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Caledonian pine forests. B. Dundreggan Rewilding Centre.
C. Valleys in the Scottish Highlands. D. The headquarter of Trees for Life.
30. What can visitors probably do in the rewilding centre?
A. Enjoy a hunting trip. B. Engage with exhibitions.
C. Learn about the history of Scotland. D. Support urban development projects.
31. What is the author’s attitude to Scotland’s rewilding projects?
A. Hopeful. B. Objective. C. Concerned. D. Disappointed.

Eggs have long been recognized as a nutritional powerhouse by dietary specialists, offering high-quality
protein at relatively low cost. Despite recent price changes caused by bird flu outbreaks, they remain more
economical than most meats and seafood. Their various cooking methods and portability make them particularly
suitable for beginners in the kitchen.
Cardiologists (心脏病医生) frequently encounter questions about eggs’ cholesterol (胆固醇) content. A
single egg contains 207mg of dietary cholesterol, nearly triple that found in a typical breakfast sausage. However,
Dr. Martha Gulati of Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute clarifies that dietary cholesterol doesn’t directly translate
to blood cholesterol levels. “The liver produces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) (低密度脂蛋白) primarily in
response to saturated fat (饱和脂肪) intake, not dietary cholesterol,” she explains. With only 1.6g saturated fat
per egg compared to 3.7g in a sausage link, eggs present a healthier choice. This understanding prompted the
2015-2019 dietary guideline revisions, with both U.S. nutrition authorities and the American Heart Association
removing cholesterol limits while emphasizing moderation.
Nutritional analysis reveals eggs’ unique advantages. Each 70-calorie egg delivers 6.3g complete protein
containing all nine essential amino acids (氨基酸) that humans must obtain from food. Moreover, they rank
among the richest natural sources of choline (胆碱)—169 mg per egg, addressing 31% of adults’ daily
requirement. This nutrient also supports crucial development of unborn babies, making adequate intake vital for
pregnant women. “While choline deficiency is uncommon, over 90% of expectant mothers fall short of
recommended levels,” notes dietitian Razan Hallak from Ohio State University.
Safe consumption practices include thorough cooking and pairing strategies. Nutritionists recommend using
heart-healthy oils like olive oil instead of butter, and combining eggs with vegetables or whole grains rather than
processed meats. “The problem often lies not with eggs themselves, but with their typical high-fat companions
like bacon,” cautions Dr. Philip Greenland of Northwestern University. Current research supports moderate
consumption of 1 egg daily or 2 every other day as part of balanced diets.
32. What primarily causes increased LDL according to Dr. Gulati?
A. Dietary cholesterol intake. B. High blood cholesterol levels.
C. Nutritionally balanced diets. D. Liver’s response to saturated fat.
33. Which statement agrees with revised dietary guidelines?
A. Eggs should be completely avoided by heart patients.
B. Saturated fat control outweighs cholesterol concerns.
C. Strict cholesterol limits remain essential for consumers.
D. The maximum daily egg consumption must be made clear.
34. What cooking advice do experts emphasize?
A. Using butter for better flavor. B. Combining with processed meats.
C. Prioritizing vegetable pairings. D. Consuming raw for maximum nutrition.
35. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To discuss the cholesterol content in eggs.
英语试题 第 5 页 共 8 页B. To warn people about cholesterol dangers.
C. To compare the pros and cons of different protein sources.
D. To explain eggs’ nutritional value and proper ways to eat them.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
If you had to choose one word to describe Kevin, it might have been “slow”. He didn’t learn his
ABCs as fast as other kids. He never came in first in the schoolyard races. However, Kevin’s passion
for life was quite contagious (有感染力的). His smile was brighter than the sun in June; his heart
bigger than the mountain sky.
Basketball was the center of Kevin’s life. At practice, he worked so hard. He liked to stand in a
certain spot near the free-throw line and shoot baskets. Patiently, he stood there throwing ball after ball
after ball, until finally it would pass through the hoop (篮筐).
Kevin and his whole team truly loved basketball. But just loving the game doesn’t help you win.
More balls fell out of the basket than into it, and the boys lost every game that season by very large
margins (差距). At the end of the season, as the last-place team, they drew the unfortunate spot of
playing against the first-place team, the tall, undefeated first-place team. The game went pretty much as
expected, and near the middle of the fourth quarter, Kevin’s team stood nearly 30 points behind.
At that point, one of Kevin’s teammates called time-out. “Coach Randy,” said the boy. “This is
our last game and I know that Kevin has played in every game, but he’s never made a basket. I think
we should let Kevin make a basket.” With the game completely out of reach, the idea seemed
reasonable, so plans were made.
Every time Kevin’s team had the ball, Kevin was to stand in his special spot near the free-throw
line and they would give him the ball. His first shot missed. Number 17 from the other team took the
ball away, scoring two more points. As soon as Kevin’s team had the ball again, they passed it to
Kevin who obediently (顺从地) stood in his spot. But he missed again. This pattern continued a few
more times until Number 17 finally understood the plan of Kevin’s team.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
So, Number 17 threw the ball to Kevin who shot and missed again.
Coach Randy realized the game was already over but everyone was still cheering for
Kevin.
