第二部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2.5分,满分50分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
学科网(北京)股份有限公司Years ago, when I started looking for my first job, wise advisers advise “Barbara, be enthusiastic! Enthusiasm
will take you further than any amount of experience.” How right they were!
“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is the paste (粘合剂)
that helps you hang on there when the going gets tough. It is the inner voice that whispers, “I can do it!” When others
shout, “No, you can’t!” It took years and years for the early work of Barbara Mclintock, a geneticist who won the 1983
Nobel Prize in medicine, to be generally accepted. Yet she didn’t stop working on her experiments. Work was such a
deep pleasure for her that she never thought of stopping.
We are all born with wide-eyed, enthusiastic wonder and it is this childlike wonder that gives enthusiastic people
such youthful air, whatever their age. At 90, cellist Pablo Casals would start his day by playing Bach. As the music
flowed through his fingers, his stooped (驼背的) shoulders would straighten and joy would reappear in his eyes. As
author and poet Samuel Ulman once wrote, “Years wrinkle (起皱纹) the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the
soul.”
Enthusiastic people also love what they do, regardless of money or title or power. Patricia Mellratl, a retired
director of the Missouri Repertory Theater in Kansas City, was once asked where she got her enthusiasm. She replied,
“My father, long ago, told me, I never made a fortune until I stopped working for money.”
If we cannot do what we love as a full-time career, we can as a hobby. Elizabeth Layton Wellsville, Kan, was 68
before she began to draw. This activity ended periods of depression that troubled her for at least 30 years and the
quality of her work led one critic to say, “I am tempted into a genius.”
We can’t afford to waste tears on “might-have-been”. We need to turn the tears into sweat as we go after “what-
can-be”. We need to live each moment whole-heartedly, with all our senses—finding pleasure in the sweet smell of a
back-yard garden, the simple picture of a six-year-old, the beauty of a rainbow.

Also known as the Big Apple, New York City was a foreign place that I had never visited before. From movies
and media, I conceived (构想) the idea that the city would be busy and run-down and that the people would be rude and
loud. That all changed, however, when my family and I went on a road trip there in July of 2016. When we reached
New York, we walked around the city, looking at the amazing buildings, the wonderful museums, and the restaurants
lining the streets.
Later that day, we decided to join in a tour of the Empire State Building. Standing just outside, I felt like a little
ant looking up at the 1,250-1,454-foot building. We went to the top and though I had a preconceived idea that the city
was crowded, dark, and dirty, the view from above all the buildings was breath-taking and made me realize I was
wrong, for the first time.
Afterward, we visited Grand Central Terminal and I was able to see people run around and go about their day,
which proved one of my beliefs that New Yorkers are always busy. However, this was soon invalidated (证明……错误)
when we passed Bryant Park and I saw so many people reading, having picnics, and simply enjoying their day.
The following day, we traveled to Times Square. To my surprise, most of the people there seemed to be locals
selling photos with childhood cartoons and characters from different movies and television shows, which I had never
seen before and thought was somewhat strange.
After three days, our trip sadly came to an end. Despite being on opposite ends of the East Coast, I noticed that
Marietta and New York City had many similarities within their communities. What I knew about New York City was
based on stereotypes (刻板印象) and the opinions of others; I now know I should make my judgments with my
personal experiences instead of making assumptions.

A.It was quieter than expected. B.Most people were locals selling photos with characters.
C.It was full of expensive luxury stores. D.Most people were tourists taking photos.
45.What did the author learn from the trip?
A.Seeing is believing. B.Easy come, easy go.
C.Actions speak louder than words. D.When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Well, research suggests having a messy desk has its benefits and so does a tidy one. While an extremely neat and
organized approach to your working environment may indicate higher levels of generosity and conscientiousness (一丝
不苟), taking a more relaxed attitude to tidiness may result in higher levels of creativity. At least, that was the
conclusion of a paper published in Psychological Science in 2025.
Psychologist Kathleen Vohs and her team completed a series of experiments in contrasting office environments
— one that was clean and ordered and another that was chaotic and seemingly disorganized. Participants in the first
environment donated more to charity and were more likely to pick healthy snack options. However, those in the
messier environments appeared to think outside the box and contribute to more novel ideas when required to identify
new uses for a ping-pong ball.
While orderly environments may encourage people to abide by conventions and play it safe, a messier space
may “inspire breaking free of tradition”, inspiring “fresh insights”, Vohs concluded.
“The business world is highly focused on enhancing innovation, but our research implies that these goals could
be unintentionally restricted by the minimalist (简约主义的) movement,” she wrote. “While cleaning up certainly has
its benefits, clean spaces might be too conventional to let inspiration flow.”
Throughout the years, popular studies have connected a number of characteristics and habits to IQ. Indeed, a
dark sense of humour, a sensitivity to loud chewing and a preference for cats over dogs (good news for childless cat
ladies!) have all been linked to intelligence and/or creativity. So has being a fitness enthusiast and a couch potato —
and, yes, we see the ridiculousness and contradiction. So, with this in mind, it might be worth taking them all with
some reservations.
But let’s get back to the state of your desk. If it is on the messier side, you are in good company. Albert Einstein,
学科网(北京)股份有限公司Steve Jobs, and Mark Twain all preferred their workspaces to remain in a state of productive disorder. So, next time
your boss accuses you of having a less-than-tidy work surface, you can point out Vohs’ study to them.
46.What does the 2025 paper suggest?
A.Most workers prefer tidy office environments.
B.Both tidy and messy workspaces have their benefits.
C.Messy workspaces are associated with higher stress.
D.Tidy workspaces guarantee professional success.
47.For participants in Vohs and her team’s experiments, untidiness seems to ______.
A.improve focus on details B.promote healthy eating habits
C.increase charitable giving D.fuel innovative thinking
48.What does the underlined part “abide by” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Miss out. B.Oppose. C.Keep to. D.Correct.
49.What might the author probably recommend readers to do?
A.View study findings guardedly. B.Link study results with daily life.
C.Adopt a sense of humour to boost IQ. D.Pursue a healthier lifestyle.
50.Why does the author write the last paragraph?
A.To compare different working styles.
B.To defend messy working environments.
C.To criticize modern office design trends.
D.To promote Vohs’ research findings.

Schools in the US and elsewhere are announcing bans on the recently released AI-powered ChatGPT out of fear
that students could use the technology to complete their assignments. However, bans may be practically impossible
given how difficult it is to detect when text is composed by ChatGPT. Is it instead time to rethink how students are
taught and evaluated?
Educators are starting to question what it means to assess student learning if an AI can write an essay or paper
similar to, or even better than, a student would — and the teacher can’t tell the difference. Many teachers believe the
time-honored learning tradition will be destroyed from the ground up by Chat GPT. The Los Angeles Unified School
District in California first blocked the use of ChatGPT on networks and devices in December 2022.
However, removing technology from the classroom can mean undesirable consequences, such as creating more
obstacles for students with disabilities, says Trust. Additionally, restricting the use of ChatGPT on school networks and
devices can’t stop students from using ChatGPT at home and in libraries.
It is also unclear if anti-cheating software can reliably detect AI-assisted writing. OpenAI is working to develop
