AIfred Hitchcockis easily oneofthe most influentialfilm directors of alltime. Hewas known
throughout his life as a brilliant but bad-tempered man. He pioneered many techniques in the

Hitchcockwasbornon13August1899inLondon,thesonofagreengrocer.Heoftendescribed
his childhood as being very lonely and sheltered, a situation worsened by his obesity. He once said
that he was sent by his father to the local police station with a note asking the officer to lock him
away for 10 minutes as punishment for behaving badly. He also remarked that his mother would

which moves in a way meant to imitate a person’s gaze and which forces viewers to engage in a
form of prying (窥探). He carefully designed shots to influence the feelings of the audience and
maximize anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative film editing to demonstrate the point of
viewofthecharacters.ManyofHitchcock’sfilmshavetwistendingsandthrillingplots.

The Internet is a busy place, with billions of interactions, millions of content pieces, and large
numbers of social media accounts and data about people. But in recent years, the so-called “dead
Internet theory” has gained popularity. The theory suggests thatmost activity online is generated by
bots(网上机器人)andAIagents,notbyhumans.
Thanks to generative AI, plenty of AI-generated models and influencers now often show up
online.AI-generated content has changed the dynamics of the Internet, making it cheaper than ever
to become a content creator. It makes sense, especially from a creator’s perspective. If you spend a
few hours on a video for your social pages, you expect to get likes, follows, and subscriptions.
However,ifyoucanproducethreevideoswithinthesametimewithAIassistance,you’reincreasing
yourchancesofcreatingthosethingswithinthesameperiod.
However,AIcouldleadtoanInternetthatfeelsdeadduetoalackofobviouslyoriginalcontent
and articles that lack a human-touch—regardless of viewpoint, experience or humour. Fortunately,
oneglimmer ofhopehereis thatsome onlinegiants havebeentakingactiontoreducebotuse,orso
they say. Such measures are partly due to advertisers becoming more understanding regarding what
makes up real human views versus bot-generated ones. So, no, the Internet is not dead.At least not
yet.
Dead Internet theory may be hyperbole (夸张), but it raises two important points. First, the
Internetis undoubtedlymoving in this direction.Second,andmoresignificantly,thetheorycausesa
broader unease about the emotional and social dynamics online. Social media is now the primary
news source for many users around the world. Therefore, there’s potential forAI agents to promote
false information and interact with each other to boost engagement, which does leave room for
concern.
So we do have to accept that humans share online spaces with bots and AI agents. As
information spreads faster than ever across digital platforms, caution is advised: Never assume it’s

In a world where the news frequently warns of approaching fresh water scarcity, a group of
forward-thinking researchers are looking to the skies to find a solution. Dr. Michael Tam, a

“Waterisefficientlycapturedbytheweb.Thespiderdoesn’tneedtogo totheriver todrink,as
it traps moisture (水分) from the air,” Dr. Tam said. This revelation led to the exploration of how
such natural phenomena could be replicated (复制) to address the global challenge of fresh water
scarcity.
Furthermore, the Namib Desert beetle showcases another masterclass in nature’s engineering.
Despite living in one of the dry environments on the Earth, these beetles manage to obtain water

Tapping into the lessons offered by these natural wonders, Dr. Tam and his team are working
one particularly promising technology termed “atmospheric water harvesting.” To replicate the

But that’s not all. Dr Tam’s commitment to sustainability shines through in his choice of
materials. Using zero-carbon materials, like plant-based substances, his team has developed an

The potential impact of these fresh water generation systems is enormous. Not only are they

Many people in the UK enjoy fireworks, but I am part of those who think they should be
banned(禁止).While itisnicefor families togo andseeprofessionalfireworkshows,toomany
people are able to buy them privately. Children in towns and cities are regularly seen setting
them off dangerously, even aiming them at animals or other people. (19) This year, one
woman has had enough. She made a request to ban the private sale of fireworks. She had
managed to get one million people to sign her request, and was supported by an animal charity,
due to how many animals were scared and frightened by fireworks. I understand letting
fireworks off at New Year or other cultural events, but more and more people are using drone
(无人驾驶飞机) shows instead. I read in the newspaper that China set the record for using
over10,000 drones ratherthan fireworks during ashow. I think that is the futureforthese
typesofcelebrations. (20)
