One possible version:
Dear James,
Last week a photography exhibition themed “Beautiful Moments of Volunteering” was held in
our school. I am excited to share my work with you.
My entry was a photo of a local food donation, where volunteers were packing meals for
families in need. This particular image stood out to me because it shows the warmth of our
community coming together to support those less fortunate. The smiles on the volunteers’ faces
reflect the joy that comes from helping others.
What do you think about my work? I would love to hear about similar photos you have taken!
Best regards,
Li Hua

One possible version:
The next day, I arrived at the pool grounds early. Out of my expectation, Ruby, Noah and
Tamara were already there busy setting up the bake sale table and arranging the karaoke area. I
couldn’t wait to jump into them. As our team got ready for the fundraiser, I suggested a backup plan
– colourful umbrellas ready to use in case it rained. Before long, customers arrived in a steady
stream. While we were busy serving the customers, I accidentally looked up and noticed the sky
darkening quickly. Within minutes, the first heavy raindrops started to fall.Facing the sudden rain, we were relieved that we had prepared the big umbrellas. As the
downpour intensified, we hurried to put them up, creating shelter for the karaoke stage and the bake
sale table. Our colourful umbrellas attracted more and more customers, which formed a unique
beautiful scene in such a heavy rain. The warm drinks were a big hit with the crowd, and the cookies
from the bake sale were hard to resist. By the end of the day, we not only raised the money we
needed but also created lasting memories. Coach Abby was proud of our efforts and everyone felt a
sense of accomplishment, just as sweet as the lemonade we served.

Text 1
M: Can you please pass the salt? This noodle needs some more flavour.
W: Here you go! Do you need any pepper or oil?
M: No, thank you.
Text 2
W: Tim, have you seen my umbrella? The one I bought at the supermarket last week.
M: Oops, I must have left it at my office, sorry. I’ll bring it home on Monday.
W: OK. I’ll grab another umbrella today.
Text 3
M: Hi, I’d like to reserve a campsite at Sunset Lake Campground. Is there any available?
W: We sure do! For a family campsite, it’s $65 per night. For a standard campsite, $45 per night on
weekdays and $55 per night on weekends. By weekend, we mean Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Text 4
M: I don’t think I’m ever going to find the article that my professor told me about.
W: Go to the reference desk. The librarians there can tell you how to track it down with the help of
the computer.
Text 5
M: Hey, I think for the next student union activity we should organise a sports competition.
W: That sounds fun, but what about those who aren’t into sports? Maybe we could also have a talent
show or a cultural event.
M: Great idea! We could offer more choices to meet everyone’s interests.
Text 6
W: Excuse me. I will stay in the city for a few days, and I’d like to know what’s on.
M: Well, there’s a famous play, Tea House, at the Capital Theater. They say the play is very good.
W: When is it on exactly?
M: Every night except Sunday. Hold on... yes, the show will run until the beginning of July. It begins
at eight o’clock and lasts more than two and a half hours. Here, take this brochure. It tells you
more.
W: Thank you. I can’t wait to watch it!
Text 7
M: Hey Judy, how was your Career Experiencing Day at the doctor’s practice?W: It was amazing! I got to watch a doctor at work during a minor surgery. It’s incredible to see
how doctors directly help people feel better. How was the engineering workshop?
M: It was great! We designed a machine and used 3D software to create a model. I didn’t realize
how creative engineering can be – solving real-world problems with innovation.
W: That sounds fun! I thought engineering was just about math, but it’s so much more hands-on.
M: Yeah, it’s about creating practical solutions. Just like doctors, engineers solve problems that can
change lives, like designing safer buildings or better technology.
W: True! In medicine, doctors see patients and treat them, making a huge difference in their health.
It felt so rewarding.
M: It’s the same in engineering – seeing your designs come to life and make an impact is really
satisfying.
W: Both careers are about helping people. I think I prefer medicine, though!
Text 8
M: Hello, Professor Jones.
W: Hi, Tony. What shall we work on today?
M: Well, the problem is that this writing assignment isn’t coming out right. I was writing on what a
particular sport means to me.
W: What sport did you choose?
M: The cross-country skiing. But I met some problem. I thought I would write about how peaceful
it is to be out in the country.
W: Why is that a problem?
M: As I start describing how quiet it is to be out in the woods, I keep mentioning how much effort
it takes to keep going. Cross-country skiing isn’t as easy as some people think. It takes much
energy. But that’s not part of my paper, so I guess I should leave it out. But now I don’t know
how to explain that feeling of peacefulness without explaining the hard work.
W: Then you’ll have to include that. The peacefulness is what you earn by effort. Why leave that
out? Part of your point you knew beforehand, but part you discovered as you wrote. That’s
common, right?
M: Yeah, I guess so.
Text 9
M: Welcome back to Morning Talks! Today, we’re excited to have Emma, a video blogger sharing
interesting stories about art and history from her work at the City Museum. Emma, thanks for
joining us!
W: I’m excited to be here and talk about what I do.
M: So what inspired you to start posting videos about the museum?
W: It began when I realised that people think museums are too serious or that they won’t understand
what they’re seeing. Thus, my goal is to make art and history more accessible and fun. I love
sharing behind-the-scenes stories, interesting facts, and making interactive videos.M: That sounds great! Your video acts like a bridge connecting people with history and culture in a
new way.
W: We recently worked with a museum in China to hold an exhibition of ancient Chinese clothing.
And I posted a video of all the elegant ancient Chinese clothes. The viewers loved it because
they could see details they might miss in person.
M: It sounds like you’re bringing history to life.

A recent report by The Rivers Trust, a charity that looks after the UK and Ireland’s rivers, found
many rivers were not in good health. However, you can help.
On 6 September, The Rivers Trust launched a project across the UK and Ireland. The aim of
this citizen-science project is for people to gather much-needed information on the condition of
rivers. The more people who contribute the better, because it will give scientists a more reliable
picture of the condition of rivers.
To get involved, download the free Big River Watch app onto a smartphone first. Once you’ve
chosen a river, pick a spot on the bank of a river or a bridge to watch what’s going on for 15 minutes.
Through the app you can send in information about the things you notice in or along the river,
including wildlife, the speed of the water and pollution. If you don’t have a smartphone, go to the
Big River Watch website and download the survey as a Word document. There is an email address
to send it to once you’ve filled it in.
Experts will analyse the results and share the information with other organisations. The data
can be used as evidence to support new policies and to locate good spots for litter picks or river
clean-ups. This means it will help create healthier rivers.
