Text 1
M: Mia, it’s going to be a long flight. Let’s go and buy some snacks.
W: I’ve got some. How about picking each other a book instead?
M: Great idea!
Text 2
M: I don’t know too much about social application. However, this pair of VR glasses really interests me!
W: Sure, Ryan. This new form of video communication will be very useful!
Text 3
M: Would you like anything for your birthday? Your mom will make a cake. How about a pretty dress?
W: There’s a company that gives away free trees, and we can plant them at places on the list they offered.
I’d prefer that. We all need to help save the planet.
Text 4
W: Hey, Matt. Will you be free tonight?
M: No. I’m leaving for the weekend, Beth. Plus, we have Monday off. So, I’ll return home that night.
W: Fine. I’ll see you in school the day after that.
Text 5
M: As one of the world’s most successful recording artists, where do your ideas come from?
W: I’m often inspired by the beauty of nature. For example, I recently wrote a song that came to me while I was
standing on a beach, watching the sun come up.
Text 6
W: Honey, it’s finally weekend. What do you want to do today?
M: I’ve been stuck inside the office all week, and I really need some fresh air.
W: Yeah, me too. We could have a picnic.
M: Let’s do it. You go make some food. I’ll prepare some drinks.
W: Perfect.
Text 7
W: Jack, have you heard about our school’s new project — Sports Week?
M: Yes. Do you have any ideas? We should hurry up because the project will start next week.
W: What do you think about inviting famous athletes to meet with local students? Athletes would tell their stories
and give some interviews.
M: Personally, I think we should invite our town leaders instead. Inviting famous athletes or actors will cost a
lot. We should also arrange some kind of mini-Olympics on our playground.
W: Yeah. That’s a great idea! Oh, I have to go. I need to bring these newspapers to the teachers’ office. Let’s
talk about our ideas on our way home together. Bye!
Text 8
W: What were you doing just now? What did those gestures mean?
M: Oh, I was just telling my friend to meet me for lunch in 20 minutes.
W: Oh, I got it. So, you were sending him secret hand signals.
M: Yeah. We got the idea from an action movie last night and decided to try it out for fun. I thought it was
cool to use hand gestures to communicate.
W: Yeah. I’ve been taking acting classes, and right now we’re learning how to use body languages to express
ourselves.
M: Wow, that’s cool. So…you mean you’re not allowed to talk, right?
W: Right.
M: That reminds me of those Charlie Chaplin movies. I guess it was not easy for him.W: He was a real master. Everyone in my class loves his movies.
Text 9
M: Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is a star of stage and screen, Tasmin Blake!
W: Hi, John. Thanks for having me.
M: You’ve been very busy since last time you were on the show.
W: When was that? A year ago?
M: Almost two. Tasmin, tell us something about the latest project you are working on.
W: OK. I’m directing and starring in my own TV show.
M: Wow, please tell us more about that.
W: Well, it’s based on a book called House of Midnight. My production company bought the rights six years
ago.
M: That’s a long time.
W: I know, and since then we’ve been slowly writing the play and looking for a channel for it.
M: And it’s going to be shown on Channel One?
W: Yes! I’m very excited to work with them.
Text 10
M: I’m Jack from Shanghai, reporting from the opening of “Culture and Ceremony: Bronze (青铜) in
Ancient China”, a new exhibition at the British Museum in London. Visitors have come to admire fantastic
treasures from the National Museum of China in Beijing. As part of an exchange program, we’ve brought some
of our best bronze pieces to put on display. Bronze has an important place in Chinese history. The beautiful and
detailed designs are a reflection of the wisdom and artistic talent of our ancestors.
The program began with the British Museum’s exhibition in Beijing in 2015. The aim is to promote
cultural exchange between nations. Although there are a lot of bronze pieces to see here, it’s a small selection of
what the National Museum of China has. We can see visitors are amazed by the long-standing culture of ancient
China. We hope this taste will encourage more people to visit Beijing in the future!
The exhibition runs for six months. Although the British Museum is free, tickets are necessary for this
special exhibition to control visitor numbers. You can buy tickets online, and I suggest you do it quickly as
they’re selling fast!
