People often wonder about some of the best places to see. A good point of reference is to first look at
attractions labeled as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These sites are culturally or physically significant places
listed by the United Nations for their importance to humanity as a whole.
The Mogao Caves, China
Also known as the Mogao Grottoes, the caves are located along the cliffside above the Daquan River in Gansu
province. First built in 366 and comprising 492 caves, the Mogao Caves are known as the biggest collection of

significant for its collection of redwood trees—the tallest and oldest trees in the world—as well as its variety of sea
and land wildlife. Once abundant throughout the mild regions of the world, the Redwood trees of California are
among the only living examples left of this old plant species, a biological group which has existed for 160 million
years.
Machu Picchu, Peru

Mountain, and much more. He has gained many achievements in his life despite the fact that he had polio(小儿麻
痹症) as a child.
When Burns was a year old, he was diagnosed with polio, and he lost the use of his legs. In 1962, his doctor
said, “The best thing for a kid with polio would be to swim in a warm-water pool. ” So, arrangements were made
for the boy to practice swimming. In the water, he felt a freedom that he didn’t experience anywhere else. In 1977,
Burns discovered the Paralympic Games. He spent the next 27 years in international swimming competitions, some

disadvantaged children. He employs art classes and other methods to help them to look within and make the most
of the skills they do have and not to let the disabilities stand in their way when achieving their goals.

In 2020, Americans spent 8.3 billion hours trapped in traffic. During traffic jams, the average car used an extra
19 gallons of gas. This amounts to $190 billion in lost time and fuel each year. Fortunately, researchers are working
to reduce the traffic jams, whether by the development of driverless cars or the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in
traffic lights.
Lack of traffic signal timing is a main cause of traffic jams. A new system uses software to decide when the
traffic signal timing is not doing well or when it is making progress. The method was better than all other former
approaches in testing.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
The researchers built an advanced traffic simulator (模拟器) to train their program, teaching it to deal with
different traffic and weather conditions. When the system was tested on a real crossroad, it adapted to real traffic
crossings. It could be effective in many real-world environments in the future. The researchers hope to begin testing
their system on real roads this year.
Dr. George Vogiatzis, a professor of Aston University, said, “This program can understand the situations it
hasn’t experienced before. We have tested this with a physical obstacle that causes traffic jams instead of the traffic
light waiting time, and the system still works well. As long as there is a cause of traffic jam, the computer will
finally find out what the cause is.”
28.How do researchers work to reduce the traffic jams?
A.By spending 8.3 billion hours trapped in traffic.
B.By developing driverless cars or using AI in traffic lights.
C.By using an extra 19 gallons of gas.
D.By losing an amount of $190 billion fuel each year.
29.What is the main cause of the traffic jams?
A.Lack of traffic signal timing. B.The light from the traffic signals.
C.The location of traffic signals. D.The number of vehicles on the road.
30.When do the researchers hope to begin testing their system on real roads?
A.This year. B.In the future. C.It’s hard to know. D.It depends on the weather.
31.What does George Vogiatzis’ words imply in the last paragraph?
A.The system can solve all the causes of traffic jams.
B.The program is expected to be available this year.
C.The program can tell different types of causes of traffic jams.
D.The program can only deal with the situations it has experienced before.
D
When was the last time you listened to someone? And when was the last time someone really listened to you?
I asked people what it meant to be a good listener. The typical response was a blank stare. People had no trouble,
however, telling me what it meant to be a bad listener.
Of course, technology plays a role. Social media helps filter out (滤掉) opposing views. People find phone
calls disturbing and ignore voice mail, preferring text or wordless emoji. But tech is not the only blame. High
schools and colleges rarely, if ever, offer classes or activities that teach careful listening. Traffic noise on city streets
and music playing in shops exceed (超过) the volume of normal conversation by as much as 30 decibels (分贝),
and can even cause hearing loss.
So how can we recover the lost art of listening? After years of studying and consulting, I discovered that
listening goes beyond simply hearing what people say. It also involves paying attention to how they say it and what
they do while they are saying it, in what context, and how what they say resonates (与……共鸣) within you. It’s
not about merely holding your peace while someone are talking. Quite the opposite. A lot of listening has to do with
how you respond — the degree to which you assist in the clear expression of the other person’s thoughts and in the更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君
process, express your own.
Good listeners ask good questions. Good questions don’t begin with “Wouldn’t you agree...?” or “Don’t you
think…?” and they definitely don’t end with “right?” The idea is to explore the other person’s point of view, not
sway it. It is not right to put your own thought into others’ head. You also want to avoid asking people personal and
evaluating questions. Instead, ask about people’s interests so that they feel more connected than if they spend time
together finishing a task.
The reward of good listening will almost certainly be more interesting conversations. Attentive listeners
receive more information, related details from the speakers, even when the listeners didn’t ask any questions. We
are, each of us, the sum of what we attend to in life. And to listen poorly, selectively or not at all limits your
understanding of the world and prevents you from becoming the best you can be.
32.Which of the following is right according to the passage?
A.People now prefer text messages to phone calls.
B.Listening skills are widely taught at school.
C.The noise around us is the main reason for bad listening.
D.Technology improves people’s listening art.
33.What does the author find about listening?
A.Listening requires the listener to keep in total silence.
B.Listening combines hearing, understanding and responding.
C.Listening isn’t just hearing but also predicting questions.
D.Listening is to put your thoughts into other person’s mouth.
34.What does the underlined word “sway” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Prove. B.Stop. C.Influence. D.Complain.
35.Which of the following will the author most probably agree with?
A.Good listeners should express themselves bravely.
B.Good listeners always receive reward from the speakers.
C.Good listening develops people’s interest in private life.
D.Good listening promotes our understanding of the world.

As bad as it feels, anxiety is essential. It’s awful, but imagine not having it? Imagine the state of our lives and
relationships if we don’t have that little feeling inside us going, “Ah, don’t go there. Don’t do that.” 36 But
when anxiety hits, it’s hard to remember its importance. Here are some interventions to help dial down your stress
for those moments.
Name things that make you feel safe
If you’re feeling anxious, ask yourself, “What are some things that help me feel safer?” 37 A lot of
people will find that being surrounded by familiar people or things is comforting. Once you have your list of people
or activities that make you feel sale, pick one off the list and do it.更多全科试卷及资料,请关注公众号:高中试卷君

Try naming five things you can hear, taste, touch, smell or feel. You can also try washing your face with cold
water. Smelling something strong can help too. These strategies help activate the parasympathetic nervous system
(副交感神经系统),which can allow the body to relax. 39
Acknowledge your physical sensations
Naming how you feel physically when anxious can help dial down the intensity. For example, let’s say you
feel anxiety in your stomach. 40 Then, pick a part of your body that is not in active pain. Next, alternate
attention between the place in your body where you feel pain and the place where you do not feel pain. This
mindfulness technique can help you tolerate or even reduce your pain.
A.Use your senses to relieve yourself.
B.Describe your pain to your physician.
C.Notice you feel like it’s on fire and it’s tight.
D.Thus, your physical sufferings will be greatly relieved.
E.Anxiety is how our body can signal to us when we’re in danger.
F.That way, the part of your brain responsible for logic can come back online.
G.It could be a person you feel comfortable around or a TV show you love rewatching.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We awoke on Thursday morning of a normal temperature of 31°F, but that was short before the temperature
continued to drop. Our Channel 2 weatherman, P. J. Hoff, on his evening broadcast of Jan. 25 told us to expect
freezing rain, but the snow started falling in the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 26. We were told to prepare
for 4-8 inches of snow — not the 23 inches that would finally arrive.
The city was paralyzed by the snowstorm. Mayor Daley ordered the city workers to work around the clock to
clear the streets, but the snow fell faster than they could plow (清扫). By Friday, the whole city was shut down.
No one at our house went to work or school. Ten feet of snow blocked our door. At first, it was fun to be free
of school, but we soon learned we could be locked in our home. Little did we know that our snow day would grow
into four days of being trapped inside our house.
After a good 24 hours of staying at home, my sister Jenny, brother Robert and I were all very bored and
driving the adults in the house crazy. They suggested we take our shovels (铲) and go outside, challenging us to dig
a way to the street.
We began digging, but not thinking ahead. We threw each shovel full of snow over our shoulders, filling the
road behind us. When we reached the street, we turned to admire our work only to realize we had filled in the road
back to the house. We would need to start traveling all over again.
注意:
1. 续写的词数应为150 左右;
2. 请按照如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。
It was then that Jenny and I realized we had lost little Robert.
