W: I love the view from your window! You can see the entire city skyline.
M: Yeah, It’s the reason for my living here.
W: I can imagine. I wish I could find a place like this.
Text2
M: Laura, I went to Suzhou last weekend. A gift for you.
W: Oh, thanks. I just played table tennis with my friends last Saturday and saw an art
exhibition the next day.
M: Nice. Perhaps we can play table tennis together this weekend.
Text3
W: Have you decided which optional course to take next semester?
M: Not yet. I’m torn among Psychology, Music Education and Personal Finance.
W: The last one can benefit you much. I strongly recommend it.
Text4
W: What good weather today!
M: Let’s go for a walk. We haven’t been to the Central Park since we moved here.
W: Give me 10 minutes. I need to get out of my nightclothes first.
Text5
M: Molly, let’s go and buy some juice together.
W: Dad, I want to keep building sandcastles here.
M: No, I’m uneasy about leaving you alone. What if a big wave suddenly hits you?
Text6
M: Judy, the coat looks wonderful on you. The color matches your trousers and shoes
perfectly.
W: Thanks, Andrew.
M: Well, the coat definitely shows your good taste. It must cost a lot.
W: Actually not. I got it on sale at Star Hall. It was originally $150, but I got it for
only $60.
M: Fantastic! How did you find such a great deal?
W: Oh, I always pay attention to their newsletters. They will announce promotions ahead
of time.
M: Wise move! I should start doing that too.

W: Do you know the robotaxis from Baidu Apollo Go run in Wuhan?
M: Yes, I really want to have a ride to experience the advanced technology.
W: But there are still some problems about those taxis. I saw two videos about them.

causing a traffic jam. In the other video, a robotaxi was involved in a traffic accident
failing to “see” a man crossing the road.
M: It’s normal that people have some doubts and concerns about new things. No rose
without thorn. I think these problems will be solved one day with constant testing and
improvement.

W: Mark, do you have some siblings?
M: Yes, I have a sister and a brother.
W: Oh, I’m an only child. Well, what do your siblings do?
M: My sister Jane works as an accountant. My brother Franco works in the IT industry.
He has moved to Australia with his wife and daughter. Well, as an only child, do you
feel lonely growing up?
W: No, I used to play with my cousin David when we were little. Now, he works in a
law firm in the UK.
M: That’s quite far from Singapore.
W: Yeah, that was what my aunt said. After David graduated from the university of
Edinburgh, he settled in the UK.
M: Did your aunt move to live with him?
W: Yes, my aunt and uncle went there last year.

W: Jason, how about your working with animals as a birdkeeper in the zoo?
M: My job mainly involves caring for the birds. Much of my workdays is spent cleaning
and maintaining their environments. We start with a morning meeting to plan our tasks,
like repairing the exhibits, and then we feed, clean and train the birds through the day.
W: You do have a lot to deal with. What kind of persons can succeed in this field?
M: Someone who really loves animals and can work well with colleagues. It’s also
important to understand animal behavior and respect their boundaries.
W: Do you think your work is stressful?
M: Even though the animal world presents more risks than a desk job, there are also
quiet days. It’s not so wild and crazy as many people think.
W: Is money a motivating factor in this career?
M: I don’t think so. Most people in this field aren’t here for the pay, but for passion.
We do it, because we care about animals and find a sense of fulfillment in educating
others about them. And for me, what I love most is the unpredictability — no two days
are the same.
