And then there are active people like Eleanor Hamby and her friend Sandra Hazelip. At the age of 81, they
went on a journey that not only changed their lives but made them stars: An 80-day trip around the world. They got
the inspiration from Jules Verne’s classic novel Around the World in 80 Days.
Earlier in 2023, they began their journey on the icy shores of Antarctica (南极洲). Then they went on trips to
Southeast Asia and the Middle East. They decided to set up a TikTok account (账号) for their 80-Days trip. They
named it “Around the World in 80Days: At 81 and Still on the Run”. They kept records of each journey on TikTok.
From taking photos with penguins in Antarctica to balloon rides in Egypt, the pair made the most of every vacation
day.
In fact, they ended up doing better than the character of Jules Verne’s novel, Phileas Fogg. Hamby and
Hazelip visited 18 countries in 80 days. But Phileas Fogg only traveled to 11. And Fogg was about half the age of
Hamby and Hazelip.
Now, they’re planning a trip to South America in 2024. If you’re feeling encouraged by their adventures, you

C(2025·浙江·一模)
Imagine you are in an autonomous vehicle (AV,自动驾驶车辆) and face this terrible choice: The car must
either turn left and hit an 8-year-old girl, or turn right and hit many walkers. On top of this “moral dilemma (道德
困境)”, if the car doesn’t turn, you could be in danger. What decision would you want the car to make?
When AVs face dangerous situations, should they save people in the car first or walkers? Should they put the
greater good above one person’s safety? These questions have been under discussion for years, but there is no
perfect answer.
“A moral dilemma is a dilemma; it has no clear answer,” wrote Derek Leben, a professor at the Tepper
School of Business, US, in his paper.
3关注公众号:陆陆高分冲刺 ~领取:最新版“小中高考-总复习”、最新试卷下载
Iyad Radhwan, an MIT scientist studied these questions. He found out that people often think about their
own safety first. “People buying these cars, they want cars that protect the passengers. But they want other people’s
cars to protect walkers instead.”
AVs bring not only moral dilemmas but also problems with rules. If there is an accident, who should be
responsible?
In July, 2024, a self-driving taxi by Baidu hit a walker in Wuhan, Hubei, who ran a red light. Baidu worked
with the police and took the walker to the hospital. In another accident in Seattle, US. in April, 2024, it was decided
that the “driver” should be responsible because he was on his phone while in the full self-driving mode (模式).
The situations of different accidents caused by AVs are so complex (复杂的) that “now there are no very
clear laws about it”, said Ji Xuehong, a researcher from North China University of technology.
23.How does the writer introduce the topic of moral dilemmas faced by AVs?
A.By giving an example of a hard decision. B.By explaining what moral dilemmas mean.
C.By describing how self-driving cars work. D.By introducing the rules for self-driving cars.
24.What does Derek Leben think about the moral dilemma?
A.It won’t happen in real life. B.It is easy to make a choice.
C.There is no perfect answer. D.Drivers should protect themselves.
25.What is Paragraph 6 mainly about?
A.Real-life examples of AV accidents in China. B.The best ways to deal with the moral dilemma.
C.Rules of driving AVs in big cities like Seattle. D.Different situations of accidents caused by AVs.
26.What might be Ji Xuehong’s opinion in the last paragraph?
A.AVs are hard to drive. B.We need better laws for AVs.
C.AVs can cause a lot of trouble. D.There will be no need for drivers soon.
D(2025·浙江杭州·一模)
When travelling outside, do you buy water in plastic bottles or take your chances with tap water? Imagine
you are touring on a Thai island. It’s hot so you buy a bottle of water from a local shop. It’s the safe thing to do,
right?
The bottle is sealed, and the words on it says “pure water”. But maybe what’s inside is not as natural as it
says. Would you still be drinking it if you knew that more than 90 percent of all bottled water sold around the world
carry micro-plastics (微塑料)?
That’s the finding of a recent found study, which studied 259 bottles from 11 brands sold in nine countries.
These micro-plastics included a substance (物质) commonly known as PET and widely used in the production of
clothing and food and drink bottles. The study was taken by Orb Media, a journalism organization at the State
University of New York.

About a million bottles are bought every minute, not only by thirsty tourists but also by more than 2.1 billion
people who live with unsafe drinking water.
With this number, several bottled-water companies including Nestle and Coca-Cola developed their own
studies using the same way. These studies showed that their water did carry micro-plastics, but far less than the Orb
study suggested.
Anyway, the World Health Organization has started a survey into the possible health danger of drinking
water from plastic bottles.
27.Why did the writer ask questions in Para. 1?
A.To list some different kinds of water. B.To make some introductions of water
C.To lead into the topic of bottled water. D.To advise readers to make good preparations while
touring.
28.What did the recent study find?
A.Bottled water was safer than tap water.
B.Bottled water was not as natural as we think.
C.All bottled water carries the harmful substance.
D.Bottled water has some influences on the environment.
29.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Micro-plastics in the bottled water can cause some serious illnesses.
B.Many people think bottled water is safe enough to drink.
C.Half the bottled water from different brands carries micro-plastics.
D.It is always a good choice for people to buy bottled water.
30.What may the writer talk about next after the passage?
A.More study numbers of different companies.
B.New technology to test the micro-plastics.
C.Some ways to cut down the number of micro-plastics.
D.Some effects that may be bad for the body.

us. Welcome!
Mr. Wilson: Hello, everyone. It’s a pleasure to be part of this program.
Mike: It’s reported that scientists found pots of honey in Tutankhamen’s tomb (图坦卡蒙墓) in ancient
Egypt and the honey was still sweet and eatable. That’s really amazing! 31 Mr. Wilson, could you
explain it to us?
Mr. Wilson: Sure. There are three main reasons: Firstly, most bacteria (细菌) can’t grow in honey because
it’s acidic (酸性的). The acid in honey kills any bacteria trying to grow in it.
Mike: That makes sense. What’s next?
Mr. Wilson: Secondly, honey is high in sugar. It is made of 80% sugar. 32
Mike: Got it! And what about the third one?
Mr. Wilson: 33 Bacteria need water to survive and grow, so it’s impossible for bacteria to survive
in honey.
Mike: Amazing! Now, I’m curious why Tutankhamen liked honey.
Mr. Wilson: Ancient people loved honey. 34 Ancient Egyptians used honey to treat wounds, burns
or skin diseases. Since bacteria didn’t easily grow in it, the honey could be used in a way similar to a bandage (绷
带). It protected the skin while it healed.
Mike: Great insights! Thanks for sharing with us. That’s the end of Discover Nature.
A.Honey is low in water.
B.Why didn’t the honey go bad?
C. It was not easy for bees to make honey.
D.Sugar can last for a very long time without going bad.
E. It was not only delicious but also useful as medicine.
Do you like honey? Why or why not? (不超过15词)
