[2022·南昌市高三摸底测试卷]Chase Poust is a 7yearold boy. He and his dad
Steven, and his 4yearold sister, Abigail, were out for a family boating trip on Florida's
St. Johns River near Mandarin Point. Chase and Abigail were swimming at the back
end of the anchored boat while Steven was on deck (甲板) fishing.
It was an idyllic (平和美丽的) outing — until a strong wave came. It was too
strong for Abigail to hold onto the boat. Instantly realizing his sister would be swept
away, Chase let go of the boat as well to try to reach her.
Steven jumped into the water but after realizing he couldn't keep up with both
kids, he was faced with a hard decision. “I told them I loved them because I wasn't
sure what was going to happen,” Steven told News4JAX. “I tried to stick with
both of them. I wore myself out. She drifted away from me.”
Directing Chase to swim to shore for help, Steven stayed behind, keeping as close
as he could to Abigail as the life vest that was keeping her above the waves floating
further and further from his reach.
It was a tough go for the 7yearold, but rather than attempting to swim all out,
Chase wisely paced himself. Stopping to float or dog paddle when he was tired, he
had a rest and then set off again. It took Chase an hour to reach the shore. Once on the
solid ground, he ran to the nearest house and called for help.
Rescuers arrived soon to search for Steven and Abigail. Miraculously, the two
were found and rescued about an hour later — more than a mile away from the
family's abandoned boat.
21.What happened during the family boating trip?
A.Chase went out fishing alone.B.The boat ran into an anchored boat.
C.Steven fell off the boat by accident.
D.Abigail was washed away by a wave.
22.Why was Steven faced with a hard decision?
A.He couldn't stick with both kids.
B.He didn't know how to swim.
C.He couldn't find rescuers nearby.
D.He wasn't sure what might happen.
23.What did Steven ask Chase to do after the accident?
A.To hold Abigail tightly.
B.To look for helpers.
C.To wait calmly in the water.
D.To give the life vest to Abigail.

[2022·南昌市高三摸底测试卷]We're all familiar with migration (迁徙):
Wildebeests dash across Africa; monarch butterflies fly across the Americas...But did
you know that forests migrate, too?
In his new book The Journeys of Trees, science writer Zach St.George
explores an extremely slow migration, as forests creep inch by inch to more pleasant
places.
“The migration of a forest is just many trees sprouting ( 发芽) in the same
direction,” St. George writes. “Through the fossils that ancient forests left behind,
scientists can track their movement over thousands of years. They move back and
forth across continents, sometimes following the same route more than once, like
migrating birds or whales.” This has happened over thousands of years, and climate
change tends to be the driving force.
Of course, today, climate change is speeding up, and trees can't keep pace. Take
California for example: It's getting hotter and drier and scientists estimate that before
too long, Sequoia National Park may not be able to keep giant sequoias (巨杉).
“The scientists there had never seen anything like it.” St. George says. “They
worried, and I think at some point we will lose these ancient trees and that we will
have to think about what we do with the places, and whether we should plant new
groves where they are easy to grow.”This is known as “assisted migration” — humans planting trees in other places
where they're more likely to flourish. But this process carries risks — people can
accidentally introduce insects and diseases to new places, where they may wipe out
entire native populations. So, St. George writes, there's a debate among
conservationists and foresters today: Should humans help the trees escape?
“There may be cases where people are probably going to step in and help species
move to places where they'll be more suitable in the future,” St. George says. “So
far, there are no huge movements of citizen groups moving trees north. But that is
kind of one vision of the future that the people I interview sort of hope to see.”
24.What can be learned about the migration of a forest?
A.It is mainly the result of climate change.
B.It often follows certain migrating species.
C.It takes thousands of years to complete it.
D.It is very difficult to track the migration.
25.Why does the author mention Sequoia National Park?
A.To stress the park is facing a severe situation.
B.To show trees fail to adapt to the climate change.
C.To prove the assisted migration carries risks.
D.To state scientists are hopeful about the environment.
26.What does the underlined word “flourish” in Paragraph 6 mean?
A.Become valuable. B.Develop rapidly.
C.Grow well. D.Escape diseases.
27.What's St. George's attitude towards helping the trees escape?
A.Skeptical. B.Supportive.
C.Objective. D.Disapproving.

[2022·太原市高三年级模拟考试(二)]Some time ago, in my class I was about to
fail a student for his answer to a physics question when the student claimed he
deserved a better score. The examination question sounded “safe”, “Show how it
is possible to determine the height of a tall building with the aid of a barometer (气压
表).” The student had answered, “Take the barometer to the top of the building, attach
a long rope to it, lower the barometer to the street, and then bring it up, measuring thelength of the rope. The length of the rope is the height of the building.”
I argued that a high grade should prove his competence in physics, but the answer
did not confirm this. I suggested that the student have another try. Immediately, he
worked out his answer: A second best way is to take the barometer to the top of the
building. Drop the barometer, timing its fall with a stopwatch. Then, using the
formula to calculate the height of the building.
I was shocked by his answer. His method gave me not only a broken barometer
but a Uturn in my teaching philosophy. I gave him full marks.
On his leaving my office, I recalled that he suggested there could be a better
answer. So I asked him what it was. “Oh, yes,” said the student. “There are many
ways. Probably the best,” he said, “is to take the barometer to the basement and
ask the superintendent ( 大 楼 的 管 理 人 ). You speak to him as follows, ‘Mr.
Superintendent, here I have a fine barometer. If you tell me the height of this building,
I will give it to you.’”
At this point, I asked the student if he really did not know the conventional
answer to this question. He admitted that he did, but said that he was fed up with high
school instructors' trying to teach him how to think, and how to use the socalled
“scientific method”. He just wanted to solve the problem in a practical manner, not
just answer the question in an expected way. Hearing this, I really had nothing to do
but give the boy a firm handshake, feeling thankful that I hadn't failed him in the first
place and even more thankful that neither had he.
28.Why did the author want to fail the student in the first place?
A.The student challenged his authority.
B.The student's answer was not practical.
C.The student didn't show his academic ability.
D.The student had a poor performance in physics class.
29 . Which of the following can best describe the author's new teaching
philosophy?
A.Without love, there is no education.
B.A man becomes learned by asking questions.
C.Teaching is to make two ideas grow where only one grew before.
D.You can lead your horse to the river, but you can't make it drink.
30.What made the student abandon the conventional answer?A.Lack of physicsrelated knowledge.
B.Ignorance of the teacher's expectation.
C.Intention to deeply impress his teacher.
D.Disapproval of existing teaching concepts.
31.What can we infer from the text?
A.The superintendent was a greedy person.
B.School education restricted this student's thinking.
C.The teacher appreciated the student's answer finally.
D.The examination question is a tough physics problem.

[2022·青岛市高中教学质量检测]In the Ancient Greek world, one was meant to
focus on a close knowledge of just two books, Homer's The Odyssey and his The
Iliad, because these were the best guides to action in military and civilian affairs.
However, the modern world firmly equals the intelligent person with the wellread
person.
Nowadays, if we do not rush to read four of this year's major prizewinning books,
we will feel guilty about how far behind we are. We think that there should be no limit
to how much we read because in answer to the question of why we read, there is only
one response that will ever be ambitious enough: We read in order to know
everything.
But this tiring approach to reading does not make us particularly happy. So in
order to ease and simplify our lives, we might have a much more limited, focused and
useful goal. We might, for example, read in order to learn to be content. Nothing less
and nothing more.
With this new, far more targeted ambition in mind, much of the pressure to read
constantly and randomly starts to fade. Once we know that we are reading to be
content, we don't need to chase every book published this season. We can zero in on
titles that best explain what we need. So for example, we may need a few key books
that will teach us about how families work and how they might work better, that can
take us through how to find a job, or how to develop the courage to develop our
opportunities.
The more we understand what reading is for us, the more we can enjoy close
relationships with a few works only. The truly wellread person isn't the one who hasread a huge number of books, but someone who has let themselves be deeply shaped
by just a few, very wellchosen titles.
32.Why are Homer's The Odyssey and The Iliad mentioned in the first
paragraph?
A.To present a fact.
B.To explain a point.
C.To raise a question.
D.To make a comparison.
33.What can we infer from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3?
A.Major prizewinning books should be read.
B.We should be ambitious to read to know everything.
C.Reading as much as we can leads to happiness.
D.We should read with focused purposes.
34.What kind of books does the author advise us to read?
A.The newly published ones.
B.Those with innovative names.
C.The books meeting your needs.
D.The books improving your ambitions.
35.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To promote our interest in reading.
B.To advocate a targeted reading way.
C.To criticize reading blindly.
D.To compare different reading styles.

短文。
[2022·南京市高三第三次模拟考试]Joel stared at the ground. Rather, he stared
at what was lying on the ground: a robotic glove. It was made of metal, with black
and yellow paint. Joel looked around his backyard. How did a robotic glove end up
next to his dad's vegetable garden?
In any case, Joel had found it. And no one else was around.
That meant only one thing: finders keepers. Wasn't that how finders keepers
worked? If you found something and couldn't find the owner, it was yours.
The robotic glove was now Joel's. Picking up the glove, Joel realized it wasn't as
heavy as he expected it would be. Even though it was much bigger than his own hand,
he decided to try it on. He slipped his hand inside and felt the machine come to life. Itbeeped (哔哔声) three times. Joel moved his fingers, and the robot fingers moved too.
Joel walked over to a large tree branch that had fallen in his yard and wrapped the
robotic fingers around it. He lifted the branch. It should have been heavy, but with the
glove it was no heavier than a small branch.
He couldn't believe it. Maybe it was a kind of antigravity machine reported in the
newspaper. Now, what was he going to do with it?
Joel's mom was inside rearranging the furniture. He could walk in and say “Do
you need a hand with that?” before easily picking up the couch and setting it
somewhere else.
At the library, he could say “Let me help” and carry in a tall stack of boxes filled
with books. At the park, he could say “How about we eat lunch over there?” and
carry the picnic table to a shady spot.
Everything would feel as light as a pencil. He'd feel like a superhero.
But first, he wanted to show his dad what he'd found. He started running toward
the front yard. That's when he heard someone call, “Has anyone seen my robotic
glove?” Joel stopped short.
Near the garage, his dad was talking to their new nextdoor neighbor, Mr. Shore.
“I haven't seen a robotic glove, ” Joel's dad said.
