B (2023上·重庆·高三西南大学附中校联考阶段练习) Chika’s father is alive. We were always told he was dead. Now differently! We drove to where Chika was born. Stepping out in front of me was her father. I asked about Chika’s infancy. He answered every inquiry with very few words. I didn’t ask why he didn’t want Chika back. I reminded myself he had lost his partner in that earthquake, the mother of his children. I explained the reason why I came—Chika’s medical condition—the brain tumor (肿瘤). I explained that her life could be in the balance. I said I had a hard question. If Chika should not survive,is it important to him that she be buried here in Haiti? “It doesn’t matter,” he said. “ Whatever you think.” I eventually came to my utmost mission. I wanted him to see his daughter—and her to see him—perhaps because, deep down, I doubted about another chance. Yet as we drove back together, there was part of me feeling as if I had been nudged (轻推) to the side of the picture. Although Janine and I have done with Chika, this man has a certain claim that we never will. Yours, not yours! The paperwork at the orphanage (孤儿院) was signed by me. It obligates us to nurture, feed, educate, and protect you. But in the end, it is a document, not parenthood. Yours, not yours! We wrestled with this question many times, Chika. Remember what you once asked? How did you find me? I promised myself you would never feel lost again. After two hours, the father walked over, shook my hand, and left. That night, Chika rested her head upon myshoulder and after a few seconds mumbled, “Mister Mitch? What will you do while I sleep?” “I’ll read,” I said. “And think about how much I love you.” She nodded, her eyes glowed. “That’s what I’ll do too.” At that moment, I didn’t care who belonged to whom. I was hers, even if she were not mine. 24. Why did my wife and I call on Chika’s father? A. To accuse him of his fake death. B. To ask him about Chika’s condition. C. To persuade him of our legal parenthood. D. To invite him to see Chika one last time. 25. What does the underlined phrase “in the balance” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Evaluated. B. Undetermined. C. Lengthened. D. Unexplained. 26. How did I feel as I drove Chika’s father back? A. Unclear and thrilled. B. Eager and relieved. C. Uneasy and troubled.D. Embarrassed and bored. 27. What’s the best title of the passage? A. My Love, Not Mine! B. Who Is “Legal” Father? C. Your Father, Not Yours! D. Who Belongs to Whom? C Struggling to remember your password again? New tech called a “passkey” will soon make logging in easier and more secure. What is a passkey? Passkeys make use of biometric technology to keep your data secure. Logging in with a passkey will actually be more secure than typing a password. Once passkeys are the norm, they won’t just save us from having to remember passwords but, perhaps logging in with a passkey will actually be more secure than typing a password. This is because it takes advantage of a technology called “public key” cryptography (密码学), which is one of the building blocks of the internet—and is how computers have securely communicated with other computers for decades. The way it works is by doing some very clever maths. Simply put, it works a bit like a key. With a password, the website has to ultimately contain a database of everyone’s passwords to check against when you login. But with a passkey, when you create your account on a website, it will effectively create a brand new padlock and key. The website will keep the padlock—and only your phone will have the key. Passkeys help guard against two common forms of digital attack. First, it guards against data breaches — situations where hackers gain access to a database of passwords. This is because, unlike most people who repeat their passwords, each passkey is unique. This means even if the pizza delivery place is hacked, it won’t give away the same password you use for your emails. And secondly, passkeys make things much harder for “phishing” scams—when a website tries to trick youinto thinking that it is really your bank’s website or similar, so it can steal your login details. These scams will no longer work as well, because passkeys have another mathematical trick up their sleeve: they’re always changing. When you log in and your digital wallet has to send over an unlock code, the code it sends will only be useful for a few seconds at a time—so even if a hacker does get hold of your key very briefly, 30 seconds later it will be useless anyway. So, next time you’re frustrated that you can’t remember your password, don’t worry too much. It won’t always be like this! 28. Why will logging in with a passkey be more secure than typing a password? A. Because it’s hard to remember so many passwords. B. Because the website can contain a database of many passkeys to check against when you login. C. Because your phone will have the only key to the padlock by using a passkey. D. Because it is very clever to solve some maths problems. 29. What does the underlined word “breach” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Safety. B. A collection. C. Understanding. D. An opening. 30. Why do passkeys make things much harder for “phishing scams”? A. Because a website tries to trick you into thinking that it is really your bank’s website or similar. B. Because when you log in, your digital wallet will send over a fixed code. C. Because passkeys are always changing. D. Because a hacker can get hold of your key for 30 seconds. 31. What is the author’s attitude towards passkeys? A. Optimistic. B. Ambiguous. C. Pessimistic. D. Indifferent. D (2023·云南昆明·昆明一中校联考一模) Most of us still have lots of photographs sitting around from the days when we used cameras, not telephones, to take pictures. There are probably many photos stockpiled in the corner of our drawers, some of which have faded out with the years. We occasionally have a look at these film- developed photos. These images, representing memories from our past, should be kept forever. Google has created a tool to help bring these forgotten pictures back to life in very high quality. The recently- launched PhotoScan app works the same as an image scanner. But this software program uses the camera on your phone to capture images as digital copies. It is a quick and easy way to save old photos without having to spend money on new equipment. The PhotoScan app uses new technology to improve the capturing process. This makes it possible to take apicture of a photo with a camera phone, without glare, a common problem. After opening the app, the user first positions the desired photo within the camera’s frame. When this is done, four small circles appear in different places over the photo. The user then moves the phone over each of the circles, which change color after the process is complete. And that’s it! The app finds the edges of the photo, straightens the image, and puts it in the right position while removing glare. From this point, the pictures can easily be saved to the Google Photos app or somewhere else. If you do have Google Photos, images are organized by face or place and can easily be searched. The release of PhotoScan came at the same time as some changes to the Google Photos app. One change is an improved auto-enhance tool that Google says creates high-quality effects in just one step. Another change lets users choose from 12 different looks to improve overall photo quality. The third provides high-level controls for changing light and colors. PhotoScan is available now for both Android and iOS. 32. What does the underlined word “stockpiled” probably mean? A. Stored away. B. Sorted out. C. Thrown away. D. Picked out. 33. What can we know about PhotoScan? A. It should be attached to a new device. B. It can cope with the glare problem. C. It can enlarge old film-developed photos. D. It can help classify your photos. 34. What change does Google Photos app make? A. Adding the facial recognition function. B. Deleting high-level control. C. Introducing an auto-enhance tool. D. Offering 12 photo qualities. 35. What does the text mainly talk about? A. New technology betters our daily life. B. New Google app brightens your photos. C. New Google app brings old photos back to life. D. We relied on our community assistance to keep us clothed, and although our clothes were second-hand, we thought they were beautiful. Looking back, I realize what Mum went through for sending us kids to school. Every morning she would put a new piece of cardboard in our shoes, because our shoes were worn out. Constant moving was typical for my family in these times. Rent was twenty-five dollars a month, but Mum couldn’t pay it. These were hard and sad years, but we never complained. New Year was approaching, and we were entitled to a twenty-five dollar fund for social services. Mum said that instead of buying food, she would use the money to pay back rent, assuring us all of a roof over our heads for a little while longer. She told us then there would be nothing for New Year. Unknown to Mum, I had been shoveling snow and doing odd jobs to earn enough money to buy a new pair of gloves. I knew exactly which gloves I wanted. They were made of genuine leather and they had a price of twenty- three dollars. Well, the big day came on the last day of that year. I was very excited, as I hurried up to catch the bus. It was only a half-a-mile walk, but on the way I noticed a house with lights and decorations. It was then that I realized at our house, we had no lights, no decorations, nor any money for goodies. I knew then that we would have no delicious food for New Year, and I felt sad. As I continued walking, I began to feel bewildered. I was sixteen years old, and I was feeling a strange sense of guilt. Here I was going to buy a new pair of gloves while Mum was home in tears. She would be trying to explain to us why there were no presents. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右: 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Para. 1 The bus drove off without me. __________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Para. 2: When Mum opened the door, she surprisingly found that some of the groceries fell inside onto the floor. ____________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________ 参考答案与解析 听力:1-5 ABCCB 6-10 AABAC 11-15 BCAAB 16-20 BCBCC 听力原文 Text 1 W: Sir, someone stole my bag. M: Where did you leave it? W: I put it on this chair and I was sitting next to it. I was a little tired and fell asleep (1). When I woke up, my bag was gone. It contains some important documents. Text 2 M: Hello, excuse me. I have a reservation for a single room for tonight (2). W: Under what name?M: It’s David. W: That’s right. Yes. Text 3 M: My friend Tommy eats like a horse but still doesn’t gain any weight (3), despite getting on in years. W: Lucky guy. I eat like a bird but still have to watch my weight. Text 4 M: Look what Mary gave me! Isn’t this a great book? W: Yeah, it is! Mary is so sweet — she is always giving her friends and co-workers presents (4). I wish there were more people like her in this world! We’re so lucky to work with her (4). Text 5 W: Dad, I am planning to learn Chinese (5) in this coming semester break. China is a new global leader for innovation and trade. We must learn its language to explore the best. M: OK, great. Go ahead, Linda. Text 6 M: I’d like six tickets for the film Moon flash playing at 7 pm tonight, please, as close to the front as possible (6), so we can enjoy all those special effects we’ve heard about! W: I’m sorry, sir, but we don’t have many tickets left for this performance. I can manage two groups of three seats—but one group is in the middle or the back row. I’ve got a group of six seats together but they’re right at the back, too. Is that any good? M: No. We really want to be close to the action. W: Well, I can manage six seats together, in the front row, but that’s for the next showing, at 8 o’clock (7). M: Great. Text 7 W: David, this is the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in! M: It’s better than the last hotel in London. At least the bed is comfortable (8). W: Well, I’m going to complain to the receptionist! There aren’t any towels in the bathroom! M: We can ask for some towels, Pat. W: Yes, but the bathroom isn’t clean (9), David — you must be able to see that! It’s unbelievable! And the lock on the window’s broken! Ask the receptionist if we can change rooms. M: I remember the receptionist said the hotel was full so we can’t ask to change. W: Well, then I want to go to another hotel now! Tell the receptionist we want all our money returned. M: I don’t think we’ll be able to find another hotel now. It’s very late, so we’ll have to stay here tonight (10).W: Well, I’m not staying here tomorrow. We must find another hotel. Text 8 M: Cool magazine! W: It’s my mum’s travel magazine (11). This issue is about famous tourist attractions. Look! Here’s one of the most photographed structures in the world. M: What is it? It looks like a huge sail that’s just sitting on the water (12), doesn’t it? W: Yeah, but it’s not a sail. It’s a hotel in Dubai — the Burj Al Arab Hotel. And you’re right. It says here that the design was inspired by the sails of an Arabian trading ship. M: Nice! Was it built on an island? W: Yep. An island was created just for the hotel! M: Wow! I bet it took longer to construct the island than the hotel, don’t you? W: Yeah, it says that it took three years to fill the sea to make the island. And it took one year less than that to actually build the hotel (13). M: I’d love to go there one day. Text 9 W: Ben, we need to plan our project on the history of this town (14). There is a list of what needs to be done. I thought we could divide the jobs between us. M: OK, Sharon. I’d like to use the Internet for research. Then there are some local documents in the public library (15). What do you think? W: Well, my friend Vivian is a librarian there. So it’ll probably be easier if I do it. M: Good. Then the other type of research is interviewing elderly people who’ve lived here all their lives. We need to find people willing to be interviewed. W: I am thinking about contacting local organizations (16) for elderly people, like retirement homes and day centers. M: Mm. There must be a lot of organizations to contact. Shall I take on half of them? W: All right. I’ll make a list and mark which ones we should each contact. M: Fine. We’ll need to have copies of old maps of the town, won’t we? W: Why not go to the records office (17)? They’re bound to have some there. M: Sounds good. Text 10 M: Good morning, everyone. Welcome to our park. The subject of my talk today is this strange- looking tree thatyou see here in front of you. It is known as the bottle tree in some parts of the world. We prefer to call it by its more common name—the baobab. The baobab survives by storing water inside its trunk (18). The trunk can swell up enormously, and store up to 120,000 liters of water. You can see in this tree how the trunk is really fat and shaped like a bottle (18). Baobabs generally can reach heights of about 30 metres (19) but this one, at 15 metre, is just a baby by comparison. Baobabs had been used as shops in the past. Nowadays, however, a baobab is often used as a bus shelter (20) because it provides shade when it’s sunny and protection when it rains! This amazing tree has another name—the Tree of Life, and when you think how it can create a complete ecosystem, supporting the life of many animals, you understand why. Then think of the many ways humans use this tree. Yes, I think this is the best name of all: the Tree of Life. Does anybody have any questions? 第一节 阅读理解: 21. C 22. C 23. So I asked two boys with carriers on their bicycles to run them the half-mile down to my house. With great excitement and tears in my eyes, I knocked on the door. When Mum opened the door, she surprisingly found that some of the groceries fell inside onto the floor. Holding back the tears I whispered “Happy New Year! A big surprise!” “Can you tell me what happened?” Mum was so excited that she cried out. I had a lot of explanation as we unpacked all the food and put it away. That day I got enough hugs and kisses from Mum. Even though I failed to get a new pair of gloves, the smile on Mum’s face made it all worthwhile. It was an unforgettable New Year for us after all! 词汇激活 行为类 ①购买:buy/purchase ②送回家:run...to my house/deliver...to my house ③解释:have a lot of explanation/explain a lot 情绪类 ①兴奋:with great excitement/with great thrillment ②难忘:unforgettable/memorable 【点睛】[高分句型1] I had a lot of explanation as we unpacked all the food and put it away.
