Five years ago, I had a job at the other end of the city, and I usually commuted(上下班 往返) to work by bus. Those long tiring hours of travelling were always annoying. But one day, it was healing. It was an evening, and I got on the bus that would take me home. I chose a seat by the window, which could prevent me from being bothered by others. It was nearly 6:00 pm, but the bus was not yet full and the driver gave no indication that he intended to get the bus on the road soon.Minutes later, a middle-aged woman took a seat beside me. It seemed that she was crying all the way. Seeing her heartbreaking situation, I asked her whether I could help her. She thanked me and shook her head. Then she tearfully narrated her story. She had come to the city to visit her daughter. On the way, a thief had snatched one of her bags, which had contained half of the money shed brought with her. The other half was rolled in a handkerchiefand hidden under her blouse, so she fortunately still had some money left. The bus conductor, the driver, and other passengers listened to her story, but no one said anything. After a while, she stopped crying, removed some cheese bread from her bag, and began to eat, worry still knitting her brow.An old man in ragged clothes got on the bus. He sat in the seat just in front of the woman. When all the seats were taken, the driver got behind the wheel and started the engine. The bus conductor began to collect tickets and asked us where we were getting off. When he came to the old man, the poor man lowered his head nervously. Seeing this, the conductor asked the man to show his ticket in a loud voice. The old man admitted in a low voice that he did not buy a ticket. He explained that he had spent all his money this morning when he’d accidentally got on the wrong bus and now he was trying to go home. Paragraph 1: Hearing this, the bus conductor ordered the old man to get off the bus. Paragraph 2: The woman seated behind the old man was also observing the incident. 角色 用词风格 动作 心理 the author long tiring;annoying;healing — 烦恼的;得到慰 藉 the woman heartbreaking; worry still knitting her brow crying; thanked me;tearfully narrated 不幸的;伤心的 the driver and the Conductor — gave no indication;said nothing; in a loud voice 冷漠的;没有同情心的 the old man — in a low voice; lowered his head nervously 担心的;害怕 的 从原文对各个人物的用词可以看出,对不同的角色,作者的用词都使用了不一样的风 格。 One possible version: Hearing this, the bus conductor ordered the old man to get off the bus. The old man was almost in tears as he begged the bus conductor to let him take that bus so he could get home. The bus driver, who had been listening to his explanation, stood up, approached the old man, and repeated the conductors command to urge the old man to get off the bus. Apart from the harsh words from the driver and sobs from the old man, the whole bus was in a terrible silence. The woman seated behind the old man was also observing the incident. When the bus driver and conductor raised their voices at the old man, she stood up and said, “Don’t be so rude to him! Can’t you see he’s only trying to get home?” “He doesn’t have any money!” the driver shouted. The woman reached inside her blouse, took out her remaining money, and handed it to the conductor. “Here is his fare. Please be kind to an old man.” Later, she also shared her bread with the old man. How much sweeter the journey was with the woman’s kindness and gracious behavior. 续写文章语言特点分析: the woman:“Don’t be so rude to him! Can’t you see he’s only trying to get home?”“Here is his fare. Please be kind to an old man.”Later, she also shared her bread with the old man. the bus driver and the conductor:Urge the old man to get off the busRaised their voices the old man:The old man was almost in tears as he begged the bus conductor to let him take that bus so he could get home.Sobs from the old man续写中使用了tears、begged、sobs等单词来描述老人,表现了老人的不幸和可怜,和 原文的语言色彩保持了一致。the author:How much sweeter the journey was with the woman’s kindness and gracious behavior. 【举一反三】 (2022 新高考I卷读后续写) It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest. I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn't with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run. What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event! I quickly searched the crowd for the school's coach and asked him what had happened. "I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him," he explained uncomfortably. "I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide." I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well — he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward. David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer — that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children,he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination. We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn't look at me. I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. 【写作思路】 when The day of the big cross-country run where Thick evergreen forest who David, I, the coach, other children what David最初选择不参加比赛,后来重新站在了起跑线上 why David患有脑补疾病 为什么不参加比赛? Jane was lost in the forest for three days and survived in the end How 如何战胜恐惧? We sat down together on some steps, but David wouldn’t look at me. I turned him around and looked him in the eye sincerely. I quietly said, “David, if you’re not running because you’re afraid someone is going to laugh, that’s not a good enough reason. Are you going to let them get in your way? If you really want to run, David, run!” I held my breath as David took this in. Then he looked at the field and said with a fierce but quiet determination, “I’m gonna run.” I watched as David moved up to the starting line. The starter’s gun sounded. But he had only gone a few metres before he tripped and fell flat on the ground. My heart sank. As I started to shout encouragement, other voices around me took up the call. “Come on David, you can do it!” David picked himself up and started again until he crossed the finish line to wild cheers and applause. 最后几句结尾有三种: 第一种:(首选结尾)That day, David got a special award for his courage. He also got respect of all students. To him, that was worth a whole lot more than an award. (169 words) 第二种:(原文结尾) Then, when David’s coach slapped him on the back and said proudly, “Good job, David!” he caught my eye, flashed me a toothy grin and said, “That was easy!” (169 words) 第三种: That day, David got a special award for his courage. He was shining on the winner’s podium. David, with so many birth problems, was a hero to all of us and most importantly, to himself! While enjoying a walk down the beach, Tim slipped on a piece of seaweed lying in the sand and fell, breaking his leg. Unfortunately, Tim did not bring his cell phone with him when he left for his walk. No one was in site, but as Tim lay helpless he remembered his military training and tried to think about what was around to help him. After struggling around on the beach, the pain became too much to handle. He stopped and thought about what to do. With no phone and no one around, and with his leg hurting greatly, Tim had a decision to make. He could either continue this way in pain and hope that someone happened to see him, or he could try something else. It didn’t matter that his leg had made him partially immobile, Tim still had the ability to crawl (爬行), and so he did. The choice was easy, but the crawl was tough. Tim told the Daily Mail, “After I crawled to about a mile- and-a-quarter away from the car park, I started flashing my torch in SOS and spinning it over my head to create a Buzz-Saw signal which is a way of attracting helicopters in the armed forces.” No one seemed to be around. At least, no one could read Tim’s signals for help. Once again, he had to either stay where he was and wait for help or get moving. In his mind he had no choice. There was no responseto begin with, so he crawled for five minutes and covered about 50 meters before making the same signal three times. Most people couldn’t imagine crawling for any distance with a broken leg, but Tim wasn’t about to give up. Tim finally got a response from the distance. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________ Tim’s condition was worse than Mrs. Robinson thought. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________ 【答案】 One possible version Tim finally got a response from the distance. He was excited to see a torch flashing back. It was his wife shining the torch in response to his signal. Thankfully his wife knew something must have been wrong and went looking for her husband. She kept moving toward her husband, shining her light. All the while, Mrs. Robinson called for help. As they got closer to each other she waited anxiously for help to arrive. She had no idea how hurt her husband actually was. Tim’s condition was worse than Mrs. Robinson thought. Tim’s broken leg hurt increasingly worse and was at risk of infection. He needed medical care immediately. Luckily, the ambulance finally showed up. After checking his leg, the medical workers couldn’t believe what he had put himself through. This man had crawled such a long distance after suffering such a wound. If it hadn’t been for his training in the army, he might nothave made it. 词汇激活 行为类 ①照亮手电筒:shine the torch/light up the flashlight ②接近:get close to/come near to ③出现:show up/turn up 情绪类 ①激动:be excited/be thrilled ②焦急:anxiously/fretfully 【点睛】[高分句型1] After checking his leg, the medical workers couldn’t believe what he had put himself through. Her favorite ballet was Swan and Lake and she had read dozens of books from the library or in the bookstore on how to become a ballerina. She anxiously hoped that one day her dream would come true. She had taken ballet lessons and all her teachers confirmed that she was a good student and full of potential, which made her look forward to the future. One day she saw an advertisement that a famous ballerina troupe (剧团) would be performing in her hometown. Her thoughts ran wild, “I must meet up with the leader of the troupe and show him my skills,” shemurmured to herself. She dressed herself in her ballerina costume and managed to avoid the guards and hid in the dressing room to wait, with her heart pounding. It was uncertain whether she could see the leader. Luckily, the leader entered and she timidly knocked at the door. She bravely approached him and handed him a bunch of red roses. And in her excitement, she pricked (刺) her finger on the thorns but she did not make a big thing about the pain. The leader observed her action, nodding his head slightly, as she told him her dream. “All right, you dance and I will give you my judgment.” But half way through the dance he stopped her and said with an impish (恶作剧的) smile Cindy didn’t notice, “I’m sorry you’re not good enough!” On hearing this, Cindy was too ashamed to ask the leader the reason and ran crying away, as fast as her legs could carry her without a brief stay. Shaking his head in disappointment, the leader said to himself, “Persistence matters more than talent.” Three years passing, she was still chasing her dream. Then one day she heard that the same ballet troupe was performing in her town again. Bitter memories of the leader’s harsh words came flooding back to her. This time she was determined to find out why the leader had told her she was not good enough when all her teachers thought otherwise. The leader glanced at Cindy in peace, “I remember how you had pricked yourself but you carried on bravely.” _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________ At the thought, she ran after the leader immediately. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________ 【答案】One possible version: The leader glanced at Cindy in peace, “I remember how you had pricked yourself but you carried on bravely.” “So what?” Cindy asked anxiously. The leader continued, “I just wondered if you could treat ballet like that. However, you let me down. Actually, if you did not give up so easily, you still deserve my further judgment!” With these words the leader went away, leaving Cindy frozen there chewing over his words. Cindy felt a breath of fire burning in her body, “Did he just test my loyalty to ballet on purpose?” At the thought, she ran after the leader immediately. “God helps those who help themselves. I am still crazy about ballet and young enough...” she talked to herself. Then she found the leader in the rehearsal hall. It seemed as if the leader was waiting for her. Cindy gathered courage and came up, begging for another opportunity. This time, her graceful dancing won the leader’s applause, which was beyond her expectation. “It was your devotion and persistence that makes your talent more brilliant and impressive.” the leader smiled, looking sincerely into Cindy’s eyes. 继续(说):continue/go on ②.放弃:give up/abandon ③.恳求:beg/entreat情绪类 ①.焦急地:anxiously/worriedly ②.真诚地:sincerely/genuinely 【点睛】[高分句型1]. The light was fading as the sun set over the rocky peaks. I was driving up a mountain and it was supposed to be a four-hour trip from Red River, to Durango. I inched along on a winding, unfamiliar road in a snowstorm. I was on my way to meet my friend Jane, who was visiting her family in Durango. She’d invited me to join them for the weekend. The fastest way to Durango from Red River would be this mountain road. I was so excited about the weekend that I left without checking the weather. Thirty minutes into my drive, the snow had started. It was gentle snow at first. I thought about turning around. Because it hardly looked threatening, I continued. Now I regretted that decision. But it was too late. The road was too narrow and icy for me to turn around. The snow was getting worse. The only way out was forward, higher and higher into the mountains. The last bit of sunlight disappeared, and I couldn’t see anything beyond the few feet lighted by my headlights. My cell phone had lost service as soon as I’d entered the mountain pass and was powered off. I couldn’t call for help. I had some bottled water in the car and the clothes in my luggage. Maybe I could find a place to pull over and wear more clothes until morning. Would that be enough to keep me warm all night? How long would it take for someone to find me? “Everything will be fine,” I whispered. Then I noticed a pair of lights seemed to glow dimly (隐隐发光) through the snowstorm. I opened my eyes wide and then drove ahead. There they were. Tail-lights! There was a car in front of me! At least someone was here with me. “Focus on the lights, not your fear,” I told myself. I could see the car’s tire tracks in my headlights. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _______ After leaving the narrow mountain road, I got closer and the car I followed stopped. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _______ 【答案】 I could see the car’s tire tracks in my headlights. All I had to do was follow the tracks the rest of the way down the mountain. I drove slowly, keeping my wheels within the tracks every inch of the way. Soon I could see the lights of a town twinkling in the distance. The snow started to cover the tracks I was following. But both of us had made it. After leaving the narrow mountain road, I got closer and the car I followed stopped. As I got closer, I saw it was a SUV. I pulled up beside it and rolled down my window. The driver of the car did the same. “Many thanks. I was really scared on my way. Fortunately, I followed you. It was your car’s light and tracks that gave me hope and encouragement.” The driver looked at me and smiled. “My pleasure. To tell you the truth I was also fearful at the heavy snow, but when I noticed there was a car behind me I felt much better.” In fact we hadn’t been alone on that mountain road at night. 词汇激活 行为类 ①跟随:follow/go after ②成功:make it/be successful ③停下来:pull up/come to a halt 情绪类 ①感谢:many thanks/be grateful ②害怕:be scared/be frightened 【点睛】[高分句型1] The snow started to cover the tracks I was following. Completing two marathons on walking sticks while partially paralyzed (瘫痪) is a test to the human spirit. Hannah Gavios decided to participate in the New York City Marathon in 2018 after learning about Amanda Sullivan, who had previously completed marathons after an auto accident left her disabled. In 2016, Gavios took a vacation in Vietnam. On her way back to her hotel one night, she feared she had gotten lost and asked for directions. But the person led her to a dark, wooded area and attacked her. While running away, she fell off a cliff, falling down 150 feet. She lay paralyzed at the bottom of the cliff for hours, until she was ultimately rescued in the morning. The fall left her with a serious injury that has affected muscles in her lower body. But it hasn’t stopped her from living her life to the fullest. The road to recovery was difficult at first. Gavios was in the hospital in Thailand for 18 days and after that spent two months in Manhattan before being discharged. At first, she couldn’t even sit up. When she tried to stand up for the first time since being attacked, she felt lightheaded and fell.Through physical therapy (治疗), Gavios felt herself getting much stronger. Eventually, though, she was doing the exercises without any assistance. Seeing the progress that she was making kept her going. Gavios began challenging herself through activities outside of physical therapy. She went on difficult hiking in the mountains. “It was something that I just started becoming more creative with and always putting myself to the test, pushing boundaries outside of what was normal,” Gavios said. But even while she was pushing her body to constantly do more, she still had a feeling that running, an activity she loved and that once came so easily to her, would no longer be possible. Then Gavios learned about Amanda, who completed marathons on walking sticks with the help of an organization. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________ After her first marathon, Gavios started to think about how to help people with paralysis. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________ 【答案】 Then Gavios learned about Amanda, who completed marathons on walking sticks with the help of an organization. If someone with a similar condition could finish a marathon, Gavios thought to herself, then she could, too. Gavios started training for her first marathon on behalf of the organization, which aims to find cures for people with disabilities. She was connected to a coach through the organization, and the two would talk on the phone about the progress she had made. She started tracking her miles, training about twice a week in the months leading up to the first marathon. After her first marathon, Gavios started to think about how to help people with paralysis. She hoped to run again to raise money and fund research into the treatment in helping people with paralysis. And a short time later, through her great efforts, she completed her second marathon on walking sticks. She is so grateful to be able to take steps for those who can’t. And she also hopes one day to run the marathon without walking sticks. Achieving that milestone another time is a powerful reminder of everything she has overcome. 词汇激活 行为类 ①完成:finish/complete ②与……有联系:was connected to/was related to ③克服:overcome/get over 情绪类 ①感激的:grateful /thankful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Gavios started training for her first marathon on behalf of the organization, which aims to find cures for people with disabilities.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] She is so grateful to be able to take steps for those who can’t.(运用了who引导的限制性定语从 句) 5.【南京市2023届高三年级学情调研】阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 My teenage son, Jordan, always complained about having to be home earlier than all his friends. He would tell me that he was already seventeen, but still had a curfew (宵禁). He believed he was practically an adult. I pointed out that he was not an adult as he was still in high school. “You don’t trust me!” he yelled. Before I continued, he rolled his eyes, slammed the door and walked away. I sighed. How could I make Jordan see that I only wanted to keep him safe? I decided to go for a walk, hoping the December air would clear my head. I opened the front door and nearly stepped on her: a small black cat, just like a meatball. “Hi, Meatball,” I said, bringing her into my arms. I walked back in, touching her neck gently. Meatball seemed happy enough to come in the house, but after an hour or two, she sat by the door, meowing to go back outside. “Why won’t she just stay in with us all the time?” Nathan, my youngest son asked. I explained to him that she was happy here but she liked being able to come and go as she pleased. “That must be nice,” Jordan muttered from the other room, complaining why the cat, not him, could come and go. He even asked me to give Meatball a curfew. Meatball became a regular. One night, temperatures were unusually low. Meatball stood at the door, meowing to go outside. I shook my head at her, afraid that she might freeze to death. She stared at me and meowed again. I patted her head, “I know you’re not happy, but it’s for your own good.” “Mom’s not being mean to you,” Nathan told the cat. “She’s just trying to keep you from turning into a frozen meatball.” We both laughed at his joke. The next morning, I couldn’t find Meatball. I asked the kids if anyone had seen her. Jordan nodded, “I let her out last night.” _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________ As I drove to the animal hospital, Jordan sat in the back, holding Meatball inside his coat._________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________ , 【答案】 Jordan nodded “I let her out last night.” My mouth dropped open. “She was outside all night?” I was so furious, “It was freezing and she could die!” Jordan choked back his words, stunned. I grabbed my coat and rushed outside. Jordan followed, fear welling up in his eyes. Several minutes later, the poor thing was found, shaking and curling into a tiny ball. I picked her up, unsure whether she was alive or dead. Jordan was scared, “We need a vet! Now!” As I drove to the animal hospital, Jordan sat in the back, holding Meatball inside his coat. I could hear him talking to the cat, apologizing repeatedly. Luckily, the vet saved Meatball. Seeing her eyes open, Jordan stroked her head, all tears. Then, surprisingly, he turned to me. He apologized for what he had done. “I know you just want to keep me safe,” he murmured. I felt a lump in my throat. He rubbed Meatball’s back, “Looks like we are both going to observe the curfew. It’s for our own good.” 抓住:grab/grasp ②. 非常愤怒: so furious / so angry②.恐惧的:scared/ terrified 【点睛】[高分句型1] As I drove to the animal hospital, Jordan sat in the back, holding Meatball inside his coat.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2].
