The problem our group received is: “I find it hard 1 (make) friends. I’m afraid 2 (talk) to others,
although I want to get to know them better.” Here are some of our suggestions to this friend. First, you can join a
sports club. If you are afraid to talk to others, you could focus on 3 (play) the sport first. You can work
together with a team and get to 4 (know) more people later. Second, you could try to talk to one person at a
time. Start with small talk, like 5 (ask) about their hobbies. You don’t have to talk to everyone at once. Third,
you should be yourself. Don’t try 6 (be) someone you’re not. People will like you for who you are. Remember,
it’s okay 7 (feel) nervous. You don’t have to be perfect. Just 8 (be) friendly and open. A problem 9
(share) is a problem halved. We should try our best 10 (solve) the problems we face.
02
Dear friend,
I’m writing to tell you how to deal with stress. 1 you feel stressed, you can take a break from what you
are 2 (do). This will help you clear your mind. You can listen to music or go for a walk. Next, share your
problems with someone you trust instead of shutting yourself away. The person might not have any advice for you,
3 talking about your problems can help you feel 4 (good). Lastly, remember to take care of yourself. Eat
healthy food, exercise, and get enough sleep. These three things alone are great for 5 (reduce) stress!
6 you feel upset about something, you should speak to a person you trust about it. Although people
might hurt you sometimes, it doesn’t always mean that they did it on purpose. Talk to your loved ones whenever
you feel good or bad 7 that your joy will be doubled, and your problems will be reduced by half. Unless you
apologize, the other person might not want to talk to you. You won’t understand why she got upset 8 you put
yourself in her shoes.
I hope these tips can help you. 9 you follow them, you will feel better. Remember, it’s important to take
care of 10 (you).
Yours,
Li Hua03
Dear Mrs Thompson,
I want to thank you for 1 (be) my teacher. You took the time 2 (help) me, although you 3 (be)
so busy. Your classes always 4 (make) me happy. I used to think that science was boring and difficult, and I
5 (do) badly in class. I never liked science until I 6 (take) your class. You encouraged me and made science
lessons fun, and slowly, I 7 (grow) more confident.
I also want to thank you for 8 (be) kind to me. You helped me a lot, especially after my grandmother
9 (pass) away. I couldn’t talk about my feelings to anybody until you sat with me during lunch that day. You
listened to me and talked with me so that I 10 (feel) much better. That day will always remain in my mind.
Thank you so much for being not only my teacher but also my friend.
Sincerely,
Kelly Smith

Growing up is an exciting but challenging journey. 1 many teenagers, it’s a time of change and self-
discovery.
I still remember when I 2 (enter) middle school. I felt nervous at first because everything was new. 3
, with the help of my teachers and classmates, I soon got used to the new life.
One of the most important lessons I 4 (learn) so far is the importance of independence. My parents used
to do almost everything for me, but now I can take care of 5 (I) well. I can cook simple meals, tidy my
bedroom and even help with housework.
6 (Develop) good habits is also key to growing up healthily. I have formed the habit of 7 (read) for
half an hour every morning. This has not only improved my knowledge but also made me more patient.
As I grow older, I realize that growing up is not just about getting taller or 8 (become) stronger. It’s
about learning to be responsible, making wise decisions and 9 (care) about others.
In the future, I will face more challenges, but I believe that with a positive attitude, I can grow into a better
person 10 (success).

Do you get angry when your friends sing 1 (loud)? Or when your best friend does not wait for you after
school?
If you do, you need 2 (control) your feelings and stop getting angry so easily. 3 (get) angry easilycan make you lose friends.
Gary Egeberg, 4 American high school teacher, wrote My Feelings are Just Like Wild Animals to help
you control your 5 (feeling). It tells teens how to stay cool when bad things happen to them. The book says
that getting angry only makes problems 6 (bad). It can not make them better. “Getting angry is not a natural
way to act”, the book says. It is just a bad habit, like 7 (smoke). The book says you can control your anger
easily, and all you have to do is to tell 8 (your) not to be angry.
When a baby 9 (fall) over, it cries only when people are watching it. Like a baby, you can only get
angry if you are sure it is the right thing to do.
The book gives many 10 (suggest) to help you if you get angry easily.

Anna was badly hurt in a car accident and 1 (lose) her arms when she was a child. What’s worse, she
lost her parents at the age of twenty. Her elder sister, who was ten years 2 (old) than her, wanted to take care of
her. However, Anna said no to her sister, saying that she would like to take care of 3 (she) and didn’t want to
depend on 4 (somebody) else. She was hard 5 herself and began to study harder than before. Four years
later, she found a job.
Once she wrote in her diary, “ 6 I lost my arms, I still have my legs. The 7 (solve) is not to feel sad
but to look on the bright side.” Instead of 8 (stay) in sadness every day, she chose to face her destiny bravely.
Her attitude brought her 9 (joy) moments and even made her 10 (pride) of her own strength.
She taught us a good lesson. When something bad happens, we have two choices: either complain or face it
bravely. In short, if we run away, failure follows; if we choose to be strong, new hopes come.

About three years ago, I felt very 1 (alone) and didn’t like my classmates, my parents, or anyone else.
My classmates didn’t want to talk with me, and my parents were always saying 2 (hurt) things like other kids
were better than me. I thought I was the 3 (unlucky) person in the world.
One day, I had 4 big fight with one of my classmates. I was so 5 (anger) that I hit him in the face.
Just then, our monitor stood up and 6 (stop) us. After that, he often helped me and we became good friends.
Whenever I got angry 7 sad, he would help me calm down and learn 8 (control) my emotions. Clearly, my
life began to change because of him. I became happier, and even the people around me changed—my parents
stopped 9 (shout) at me, and my classmates became friendlier.
But now I can’t often see my best friend because he is 10 (serious) ill and is in the hospital. How I missthe days we spent together! I hope he will get well and come back to school soon.

Lauren Parrino has a busy schedule in her first year of senior high school.
She 1 (become) the captain of her school’s girls’ soccer team at the start of this year. “It’s amazing that I
can fight for 2 (I) and the school,” she said. A few days ago, Parrino joined a volunteer program. “It lasts six
months,” Parrino explained. “I go to the hospital every Monday. I meet nurses and 3 (doctor) there. This
experience 4 (let) me understand the medical field better.” Besides, Parrino plays 5 active role in school
clubs. She is now the vice president of the literature club and plans 6 (join) another club this year.
Even though Parrino does several after-school activities, she can manage her time well. 7 (important),
she feels good about 8 (do) well in all of them. She said, “You can’t make everything perfect, but I don’t allow
myself 9 (give) up. I will try my best to deal with everything well.”
Her teachers and friends 10 (courage) her to keep going. They believe this busy life helps reduce stress
and makes her school days more meaningful.

Last week, I had a big argument with my friend, Lisa. It started 1 (在……期间) a group project. I
thought she wasn't doing her share of the work. I got so angry 2 I said some very hurtful things to her. After
that, she stopped talking to me.
I felt terrible. I knew I 3 (should) not have shouted at her. 4 (尽管) I was angry, I shouldn't have
been so rude. I wanted to apologize, 5 I was too shy and afraid. My mum noticed I was upset and asked me
what was wrong. "You won't feel better 6 you talk to her," she said. "Why not write her a letter 7 you can
express your feelings clearly?"
I thought it was a good idea. I wrote Lisa a long letter. I said sorry and explained why I was angry. I also told
her that our friendship was important to me. The next day, I gave her the letter. She read it and smiled. "I accept
your apology," she said. "I was upset too, but I'm glad we can 8 (clear) the air." I felt so relieved!
Now I understand that 9 (communicate) is the key to solving problems. 10 (if) you have a problem
with someone, talk about it. Don't just stay angry.
10
People believe that almost all children are born clever kids. The problem is how to stay clever as they are
growing older. Being careless and 1 (patient) will not only be bad for learning, but also for their future life.
A famous 2 (science) once said that a troubled heart is a distracted (注意力分散的) mind. If problemsare always on his mind, it’s hard to focus. Some students think their parents are strict 3 them and can’t get on
well with them. Some students always keep worries to 4 (they), and this drives them even madder. Others
don’t know how to deal with their problems. Feeling helpless, they have no choice but 5 (give) up.
My cousin had the same problems. 6 he knew his parents and teachers cared, he didn’t know how to
talk about his problems. He bought a book on how to achieve a balance between study and play. He found its 7
(advise) was worth 8 (follow). For example, the book advises that when studying, full attention should 9
(pay) to the lessons. It also points out the importance of growing up in a well-rounded way.
Since then, everything 10 (change) for my cousin. We hope more and more students like my cousin will
find their path to growth.
