(23-24八年级下·重庆大渡口·期中)I really love volunteering, for example, volunteering at free public
schools and old people’s homes. It’s one of my favorite hobbies.
At my old school, I used to help my classmates. It was really fun to help with their studies. I wasn’t really
a top student who always got the highest grades, but I could explain to them clearly.
Now, when I’m free, I often volunteer on my town’s main street. Every weekend, other volunteers and I
make a lot of dishes to feed everyone who passes by the street. There are always about 400~550 people. The long
day makes me tired, but it also brings me great joy. The looks of joy on those people’s faces would make my

happy too. It creates great memories(回忆). And maybe one day, people once you helped would help you back.

People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy’s head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner
telephoned the police. Soon an ambulance (救护车) arrived and took the boy to the hospital. At 6:30 p.m., the
police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later, they asked me to go to the police station

(23-24八年级下·河北邢台·期中)John and Nick are best friends and they hang out together almost
every day. However, about a month ago, they got into the biggest fight.
It started on a Sunday when Nick went over to John’s house to play tennis. But John said he wanted to go to
watch his elder brother’s football game instead. When Nick asked if he could go too, John said no. Nick felt hurt.

(23-24八年级下·河南许昌·期中)Some people think only young students have trouble getting on with
their parents. However, it is not true. Communication is a problem for children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to
communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some suggestions about getting on well with
parents.
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t talk with your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably
won’t think over your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express (表达) yourself well if you are
angry. Go for a walk to cool off and think about what you want to say to your parents.
Try to reach an agreement. Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your
disagreement, but try your best to understand them. Sometimes your parents might not accept your reasons for
something. In these situations, it is important to show love and respect (尊重) to them. Showing respect will keep
your relationship strong.
Talk about your values (价值观). The values of your parents are probably different from yours. Tell your
parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them understand you better.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person.

(24-25八年级上·湖北黄石·阶段练习)Have you ever felt the earth move? How can you keep safe
during an earthquake?
All earthquakes send out waves (波). An earthquake can be so small that it can’t be felt while a stronger
earthquake sends out bigger waves and can be felt for hundreds of miles. Strong earthquakes can harm people and
animals. They can make everything in a mess. Once an earthquake starts, it may be too late to escape it. But there
are steps you can take to stay safe. When you stay inside, remember to drop, cover, and hold. First, drop to the
floor. Second, cover yourself with your arms under strong furniture (家具). Third, hold on to something strong.
Stay away from windows or things that could fall. Stay calm and help others do the same. When you stay outside,
you should get away from buildings, electrical lines, and other things that can fall and find an open place to stay.
After an earthquake, have an adult turn off the gas and water. Pipes crack (管道破裂) and let out harmful
gases. Broken pipes can also make water unsafe to drink.
Be prepared for what happens after a big earthquake or any natural disaster (灾害). Put together a kit (成套
设备) of things you may need. This kit needs to include water, food, and a first-aid kit. Now you will understand
how you can stay safe during an earthquake! Don’t forget to tell others about this.

(23-24八年级下·重庆彭水·期中)As more information comes out about 10-year-old Cindy Smith’s
death (死亡), worries about amusement park safety (游乐场安全性) grow.
Cindy is not the first child who died on an amusement park ride. 25 years ago, the mother of a 14-year-old
girl waited to pick up her daughter outside Worlds of Fun. Laura Barry never saw her daughter Rosie alive again.
“My heart goes out to the Smith family more than they can ever possibly know,” said Barry. She is one of
the few people who truly know the hurt that family is feeling.
In 1995, Rosie’s mom said that something went wrong on the Timber Wolf the night Rosie died. Police
found no evidence (证据). Two men told the police that they saw Rosie standing before she fell out of the car.
“I couldn’t believe that such a thing could happen still and again,” said Barry. She believes Rosie’s death
should have been a wakeup call for amusement park safety.
She finds that not much has changed in the past years. Amusement parks race to build bigger, taller, faster
rides. In her opinion, amusement parks just try to bring in visitors and give them the idea that riding is good, safe
and fun. She believes that parks should have put safety first.
There is no exact number of amusement park deaths each year. It is quite low according to some websites.
But Barry doesn’t accept that. “My daughter was the only person that had ever been killed at Worlds of Fun in all
of the years, among all of the thousands and thousands of people that went there. The number doesn’t mean
anything, you know, because when your child is the one, that’s one too many,” she said.
1.What does the underlined phrase “goes out to” mean in Chinese?
A.制止 B.同情 C.想念 D.忍受
2.How did Barry feel when saying the words in Paragraph 5?
A.Afraid. B.Angry. C.Hopeful. D.Interested.
3.What can we learn about amusement parks?
A.They are building more rides. B.Most of them put safety first.
C.They cause a large number of deaths. D.They paid Barry a lot for Rosie’s death.
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.The story of the Smith family. B.The death of a 10-year-old girl.
C.The safety of amusement parks. D.The future of amusement parks.(23-24八年级下·湖北武汉·期中)More and more car makers are introducing smart cars that can drive
themselves. But as these cars take to the streets, we have to ask: are auto-pilot (自动领航) cars a step into a better
future, or are they a step we’re not ready to take?
Not long ago, cars that drive themselves were just a dream. But now, with smart car makers like XPeng, Tesla
and Xiaomi, that dream is closer to reality. Supporters of auto-pilotcars say that they can make our roads much
safer and make it easier to travel. Most car accidents happen because people make mistakes or get sleepy, but the
computers on cars don’t get tired. Many believe that self-driving cars can also help traffic move better and give
people more time to do fun things while traveling.
However, even car makers admit that self-driving technology is not perfect—especially with the busy streets,
traffic lights, and all other different drivers it has to deal with. People worry about the decisions smart cars would
make in uncommon situations. Some think it is easier for human drivers to forget the possible danger in driving.
★ Many drivers still remember the accident in 2021, where a human driver fell asleep behind the wheel and the
auto pilot made a wrong decision. What’s more, they are nervous about the personal information these cars might
collect.
The discussion about self-driving cars is about technology, safety, and how we’ll live in the future. We’ll keep
discussing if they’re good for us. Will self-driving cars become common, or will they remind us to be careful with
new technology? We’ll see what the future holds.
1.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A.The history of auto-pilot cars. B.Supporters’ opinions about auto-pilot cars.
C.Auto-pilot cars are a dream come true. D.The possible danger of self-driving cars.
2.According to paragraph 3, self-driving cars might ________.
A.make bad decisions in difficult situations
B.stop all kinds of car accidents from happening
C.make driving fun and relaxing for most drivers
D.keep our personal information safe
3.Which of the following can be put in ________?
A.The technology is too expensive for most people.
B.People believe in these cars too much sometimes.
C.Auto-pilot technology makes drivers tired.
D.Self-driving cars do not make many mistakes.
4.The underlined word “they” refers to________.
A.human mistakes B.the discussionsC.computers on cars D.self-driving cars
5.What’s the purpose (目的) of this passage?
A.To show different opinions. B.To give useful advice.
C.To stop people from mistakes. D.To tell us about new things.

Some special forms of Chinese traditional art usually turn the most common things, from
paper to clay to bamboo, into objects of beauty.
Sky Lantern

animals, and things about Chinese history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows,
doors and walls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year.
Chinese clay artThe pieces of clay art are carefully shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay (黏

(23-24 八年级下·湖北武汉·期中)Why did ancient Chinese emperors call themselves zhen (朕) or
guaren (寡人)? Research shows that the word zhen used to be a first-person pronoun (代词) . Before the Qin
Dynasty, it meant “I” or “me” and everyone from farmers to state rulers could use it. The word can be found in
books like Li Sao (The Lament) and Shi Jing (The Book of Songs).
However, when the state of Qin defeated (打败) all the other six states and unified (统一) China,
Qinshihuang, the first emperor in Chinese history, changed how this word could be used. He made it a rule that
zhen could only be used by the emperor himself. Since then, the word has been used only for rulers.
Chinese emperors also called themselves guaren. In ancient China, emperors took themselves as the “Sons
of Heaven”, and believed they had a “Mandate of Heaven (天命)” to rule. However, if the “Son of Heaven” was
found to have poor morals (德行), they would lose the mandate. So, the rulers used the term guaren or guadezhiren (寡德之人), meaning “a person who doesn’t have morality”. In this way, they could show their modesty
(谦虚) . In Chinese culture, people should not talk proudly about their own abilities. Modesty is seen as a virtue
(美德). Ancient rulers hoped to win people’s hearts by calling themselves guaren.

a black swan (天鹅) in the grass. Yang Fan knew that swans could be fierce (凶猛的). But as she got close to this
one, it didn’t move.
She was sure that the swan needed help. Although she had an important meeting to have, she still decided
to do something for the swan. So Yang called her workmate first to pull off the meeting. Then she covered the
bird’s head with her jacket to keep its cool, picked it up carefully and held it in her arms. She decided to send it to
the Animal Care Center, but the center was across the Han River, far from the park. She didn’t know how to carry
the swan there. Luckily, some strangers driving by gave her and the swan a lift to a nearby bus stop.
On the bus, no one seemed surprised by “the unusual passenger”. Instead, they were worried. Someone
helped Yang Fan call the center on the way. And Li Tao, an animal-care manager, picked her up at the bus stop and
drove them to the center. There, the animal doctors found that the swan was poisoned (中毒), caused by eating
something used to kill mice. The swan was well looked after at the center. She even made a friend—a little dog.
Thanks to people’s love and care, luckily, she was cured (治愈) two months later and sent back to the nature.
“It’s a moving story. Yang Fan travelled about two hours and it was really a long way.” Says Li Tao. “And

(23-24八年级下·湖北武汉·期中)This is a story of a man who works in my factory. I have seen him for
years, but I didn’t know him very well. He was a little bit weird (怪异的). He always wore an old red hat and
carried a rubbish bag. He seemed to have no friend, and was always alone. He usually spent his break time and his
lunchtime walking around in the factory and collecting used tins (金属罐). Maybe he was too poor, I guess. But I
didn’t care much about him.
One day, I was fixing one of the broken machines in the factory when this “tin man” came with his bag. As
usual, he picked up the tins, which were all around the place. My manager was standing there, watching me.
When I finished my job, I heard my manager ask the “tin man” about what he was going to do with those
tins he had collected. I never even thought about this kind of question, because I always assumed that “tin man”
would take those tins to the recycling center.
Unexpectedly, the “tin man” answered, “I will give these tins to my neighbor. He has been ill for many
years and cannot work. He is too poor to buy daily bread now.”I was so shocked to hear that, so I asked him, “You mean you collect all those tins just to help your
neighbor?”
“I know this does not help much,” he said. “But I give everything to him, because he cannot work. He
needs help.”

(23-24八年级下·重庆·期中)① The way we spend our time can be put into three “bottles”. These are
the Necessary Tasks Bottle (必要任务瓶), the Voluntary Tasks Bottle (志愿任务瓶) and the Happiness Bottle.
②Every day, we spend time filling the Necessary Tasks Bottle with useful things, like making money,
doing housework, and paying bills.
③We then fill another bottle with Voluntary Tasks. These are things we do for others, we may not enjoy, but
we do them anyway. This bottle gets filled with tasks like taking children to activities, cooking family meals, and
washing clothes for family.
④However, we often forget to fill the third bottle—the Happiness Bottle. This is the bottle we fill with
activities that make us happy. Is your Happiness Bottle sometimes empty at the end of the day? Between doing all
the Necessary and Voluntary Tasks, time flies by, and before we know, it is time for bed. We all have days like
that.
⑤This is why each day we have to try to fill our Happiness Bottle. I fill mine by going to the dancing class.
And I always leave classes more happily than when I arrive. This week, I had fun joining in a guitar practice in
my neighborhood. We showed our musical talent and practiced music for charity (慈善). It was a time of fun,
friendship and music-making. At the end of the evening, my Happiness Bottle was filled to top.
⑥The challenge (挑战) for each of us is to not let the day go by without filling our Happiness Bottle. That
takes some planning. Many of us probably need to pencil happiness activities into our schedule (日程表): If we
don’t do that, we will have to fill our schedule with those Necessary and Voluntary Tasks.
⑦Think about how your time is being spent. Are you doing enough activities that bring joy to your life? Or
are the Necessary and Voluntary Tasks using up all your time? At the end of the day, hopefully we’ve done all wecan to make sure that our Happiness Bottle is filled.
1.Which activity is a Necessary Task according to the passage?
A.Having fun with your good friend. B.Preparing a big dinner for your family.
C.Going to work although it is raining heavily. D.Sending your son to a piano lesson on Sunday.
2.What can we learn from the passage?
A.People often fill the Happiness Bottle at bedtime.
B.People are happy to fill the Voluntary Tasks Bottle each day.
C.It is OK if we don’t fill the Necessary Tasks or Voluntary Tasks Bottle.
D.It is necessary for people to plan happiness activities on the daily plan.
3.What’s the writer’s main purpose in writing the passage?
A.To describe what the Happiness Bottle is like.
B.To introduce ways to fill the Happiness Bottle.
C.To share the experience of filling the Happiness Bottle.
D.To tell people to spend time filling the Happiness Bottle.
4.The structure of the passage is ________.
A. B. C. D.
